Crabs is my most favorite thing to eat. Wanted to give another go at raw marinated crabs again. I didn't like it the first time. Seeing how popular this dish is in Seoul I thought it be best to try it in Fort Lee. We ordered a small and my only complaint is that I wished the crabs had some roe. The small order does not come with any shells. I wanted to try eating it by putting some rice in it. I enjoyed it more this time and was glad I ordered it spicy. The menu also offers amazing homemade style Korean stews. I would come back just for their Gul Gookbap (oysters, seaweed soup w/radish, chive, mushroom, tofu & egg). Service: 10/10. The gracious owner came by often to give us lots of napkins, refill a couple of our banchans and asked how we were enjoying our meal. I got excited when he gave us a complimentary delicious egg dish. My friend selected Ahjae Gookbap for dinner. Parking was excellent. Staff were extremely helpful throughout the meal. Restaurant is clean and modern. We had the raw marinated crab and enjoyed the legs more than the body. Galbi jjim was pretty solid, meat was tender. Pan fried oysters were substantial and pretty tasty. The worst Korean restaurant in Fort Lee out of the many I have visited. Where did they find such a lousy chef? The food is completely flat. Their lackluster kimchi selection--both in quality and quantity--strongly suggests a restaurant operating on a desperate budget, yet the prices certainly don't reflect it. The pan-fried oysters had an odor that raised serious doubts about their freshness. The Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) was overfried and rubbery, making it incredibly difficult to chew. The boneless BBQ short ribs were entirely uninspiring, tasting more like unsalted, boiled meat. To top it off, the expensive signature crab dish was bleak and tasteless. What is there to like about this place? It seems obvious to me that the five-star reviews are coming strictly from "friends and family." Save your money and avoid this place. Fort Lee has too many truly GREAT Korean restaurants to waste your time here. read more

This restaurant is renowned for its raw seafood, specifically its raw marinated crabs. They are also highly recognized for their soups, and could soups. This location has a parking lot, whereas the Palisade location has street parking. We ordered the following: ~ 굴전 Gul jeon -- Pan-fried battered oysters 4.5/5 stars (better last time at Palisades) ~ 号意 百板鱿鱼 Hot Stone Pot -- Marinated squid with vegetables over rice in a hot stone bowl 5/5 stars ~ 새우장 Raw Soy Marinated Shrimp -- 5/5 stars The oysters in the Gul jeon were so plump and delicious, but we felt the egg batter was a tad overdone. The hot stone pot had generous amount of squid, and the spice was hot but not numbing. The shrimps were the stars of today's dining. To make your life easier, they supply you with plastic gloves and a package of seaweed paper. Put one of the gloves on your less dominant hand and, using your chopstick for the dominant hand, you can now easily peel off their shells. I had mine as a temaki. You would swear it tastes like lobster, but at a much friendlier price point. For those who look forward to banchan, they gave us cucumber salad, bean sprout salad, stir-fried fish cake, and, as a bonus banchan, they gave us Gyeran Mari (rolled omelette). Every dish was nothing short of pure comfort food. I wish them much success, as I marked this as one of my go-to places for authentic Korean cuisine. read more

I remember when they only had three items, and now the menu spans several pages, they've come such a long way. Most of what we tried was a hit too! We ordered: Galbijjim: 5/5 This was my absolute favorite! I usually get it at Onga, but I honestly prefer this one here at Ahjae because it's boneless and they're very generous with the portion size, and it was incredibly tender. Highly recommend this dish! LA Galbi: 5/5 My second favorite, and still delicious Boneless Galbi: 4.5/5 It was decent with good flavor, but I probably won't order it again since it wasn't particularly special. Seafood Tteokbokki: 4.5/5. The portion was a bit small, but it's perfect as an appetizer. The rice cakes were super chewy and fresh. This was my first time trying it with seafood, and I loved the sauce Squid & Pork Udon: 3.75/5 I enjoyed the abundance of seafood, but the udon noodles were a bit overcooked for this one Seafood pancake: 4/5 another dish that I love the abundance of seafood and does have some crispy texture but not a fan of how thick it was Bulgogi Stone Pot: 3.5/5. This is one the best spots for soups, raw marinated crabs, and cold noodles! I am glad they opened another location that has parking. This location is more spacious than their palisades location with more tables, a parking lot, and two bathrooms. You can even bring big groups now, but would recommend reserving ahead for that. My favorites are always the soy marinated crabs, bibimnaengmyun, and the soups! The soy marinated crabs are always full of roe and marinated so well, but not too salty. It pairs perfectly with rice. Their spicy cold noodles are always a treat and perfect for the hot summer days. You can't go wrong with any of their soups - my favorites are the Samgyetang, dakdoritang, and the seolleongtang. This location has more items on the menu! I recommend trying the haemul tteokbokki - it's spicy with a hint of sweetness from the seafood. It's packed with seafood and the rice cakes are nice and bouncy. The haemul pajeon is also amazing - super crispy and loaded with filling. The service is always great which is why I come so often! I would love to gatekeep this place since the food is so good and the prices are super reasonable. This second location just opened this weekend! Ahjae Gookbap is conveniently located right on Main Street, and there's even a small parking lot -- a rare find in Fort Lee. The restaurant is known for dishes like gukbap (soup with rice) and other traditional Korean comfort food. We were feeling lazy and decided to do takeout right before the dinner rush. Raw Crabs: 5/5 We ordered the soy-marinated and spicy-marinated raw crabs. You can get the half-and-half combo to try both. My husband immediately noticed how fresh they were -- the crabs were prepared really well, and the shells were soft and easy to eat. I was also impressed with how carefully everything was packaged. The restaurant even included a bag of ice to keep the crabs cool during transport. Everything arrived fresh and well-prepared -- you can tell they really care about quality! Ahjae Gookbap: 4/5 I honestly thought it would be like the traditional gookbap (usually pork soup with rice), but the Ahjae Gookbap is more similar to Galbi Tang. The broth was a deep, flavorful beef bone broth with slices of brisket, short rib, and oxtail. It's served with rice and a nice selection of Korean side dishes. I personally love mixing the rice directly into the soup! I thought it was good, but I was originally craving a spicy pork broth soup. The marinated crabs had great flavor but the body had limited filling which was the only disappointing part because theres not much to mix with rice. The Suyuk Muchim aka sliced broiled beef with spicy vegetable salad was a hit but portion was small so we ordered two to share. Theres definitely an overwhelming about of kimchi underneath compared to the amount of meat. Their soups are super rich and delicious, and the short rib meat was soft and easy to eat off the bone. Went to the original location before and came here to check out the new spot. Just as great on both crabs (soy and spicy). Didn't care too much for the soup only because I'm not a soup person but was good balance with the rest of the food. Had the shrimps as an app and it had a good texture/bite to it.
