Was visiting Jersey for the day and decided to eat here for dinner with my bf. As a Korean who eats gomtang often, this place was so good. You know a place perfected a dish when their menu is so limited. If you want a warming, hearty bowl of soup, get this!! Will definitely be back :)

It's a universal fact that soup can be comforting and healing... especially when you're sick on a cold Winter day. It was Christmas and I was craving a bowl full of hot broth and protein. After doing tons of research to see which businesses were open on a holiday, I found Gomtangjip! It's a Korean restaurant in Pal Park that specializes in traditional beef broth soups. Parking can always be a bit of a challenge in this area, but keep driving around and you'll find a spot. The restaurant's interior is casual and modern with an authentic, no frills type of vibe. It's a small spot with a few tables for 10-12 groups. They also have a lot of take-out orders coming in. The menu is limited to nine dishes. Yes, you guessed it... all of them are soup! The main dish is gomtang, a premium beef broth with brisket meat, chuck roll meat, round heel meat, and white rice topped with scallions and green onions. Other popular items are kkorigomtang (beef bone milky broth with oxtail meat), seolleongtang (beef bone milky broth with brisket & noodles), galbitang (beef short rib soup), and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup). So yes... lots and lots of beef! The broths are known for being highly nutritious and rich in nutrients like collagen, calcium, protein, and vitamins. I ordered the Gomtang ($14.99) which included a side dish of kimchi and pickled vegetables. Service was quick and I got my food within a few minutes. They also started me off with complimentary hot tea. My meal was nicely presented on a wooden tray with gold-colored utensils and bowls. The broth was piping hot and comforting. As for the flavor, I wasn't too crazy about it. It was very clean and light - too light for my taste. I expected it to be a lot more richer and savory with an intense beefy flavor, but it wasn't. You have the option of adding salt & pepper, but it didn't do much to enhance the overall flavor. The best part of the soup was the meat. The meat cuts were large and tender! The menu doesn't state that white rice is included IN the soup, but I didn't mind. I would've preferred noodles but I don't think they offer that as an option. The side dishes of kimchi and pickled vegetables were very fresh. I enjoyed the crunchy textures and fermented/tangy flavors. I wish they offered more complimentary banchan (as most Korean restaurants offer a standard 4-6 side dishes per order). The portion size was fair for the value - I was pretty full after finishing everything. The owner was very sweet and asked me how my experience was. I wouldn't get the gomtang again just because it's not my personal preference - the broth is too light for me. BUT don't knock it 'til you try it. I would definitely come back to try their other soups though!

The temperature is dropping and I don't know what else top this meal!! It was amazing and so comforting. We ordered the rich Seolleongtang - milky bone broth with slide meat and noodles, kimchi pancake, and potato pancake. Food came out pretty fast even though it's a small team. It was a full house even close to closing time! And lots of take out orders. I seriously wish I can live in NJ just to eat this everyday !!! I drank every sip of that rich collagen soup. The banchan of kimchi and radish was refreshing and great paired with the soup.

Came here after a nice hike! We were craving some good soup and this place was just the place! We walked in and it was spacious. As we got seated, we took a look at their menu and noticed that it was very selectively small. A few soup options and some mini pancake options. Each soup order does come with rice and radish kimchi and onion dipping sauce. Besides being surprised at the limited options, I'd like to think that's because they are known for their soups. Upon first sip, I could see why. The broth was milky white and translucent. It had the cleanest beef flavors without the smell. My mom does not eat beef and yet, she had the whole bowl because the beef soup was THAT clean. The beef wasn't chewy or mushy, it had the right bite and it slid nicely off the bone. As with most Korean beef soups, you can add salt and pepper to your liking on the side. It definitely did need a sprinkle of salt to tie it all together. A sip of soup, spoon of rice and a bite of radish kimchi... very comforting meal after a cold hike! The potato neon was also incredibly nice! I'd go back for that again and try a different soup!

The food was delicious and the soups had a clean and deep flavors! I really enjoyed the side dishes as well. Although, I wish they had more options for side dishes. The gomtang and galbitang were well portioned but a bit pricey for what you're getting overall. I wish they had some spicy seasonings to add, especially for the galbitang. The restaurant filled up pretty quickly while we were there for Sunday lunch. It's just a simple and comfortable place. I've also done takeout from here which was great! The woman who serves there is very nice and attentive! Great service.

I came here craving great soup, and this place did not miss! The ambiance took me straight back to an authentic restaurant in Seoul, and the owner--a lovely Korean woman--offered such warm and welcoming service. I ordered the Galbi-tang and the gomtang, and both were incredible. The beef was tender and flavorful, served in a bubbling bowl of perfectly seasoned bone broth. Can't wait to return and explore more of the menu. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

4.75 stars Friendly and sweet staff, excellent gomtang but the real stars of the menu that I tried were the galbi anything. Galbitang very light yet savory in the best of ways. Galbijjim well marinated and super tender. This dish alone can be shared with 2 people, or one hungry hungry champ Best of all, these portions are generous. Huge chunks of short rib and pairs so well with all the sides and Rice. Kimchu tasted a bit too fermented and sour but I'm just being picky. Price is very reasonable too.

Came in late in the ending after landing at EWR and on way up to Albany. Ordered Galbitang (Korean short rib soup) for the long drive up north. Since I came in at late hours almost near closing. They served the food within 5 min. Other than limited side dish, the soup and kalbi were delicious. Will have to come back in the future to try other dishes.

The food here is delicious! I've been to the restaurant twice and had a great experience both times. The gomtang has a very flavorful broth. The meat is tender and great with some black pepper. The yukgaejang was also tasty. The spot is cozy and the lady working there is very nice. The food was served very fast.

I had a really enjoyable meal at Gomtangjip! The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was well lit and clean feeling. On the side, we were given napa and radish kimchi and marinated onions/peppers. The kimchi was fresh and you could tell that it wasn't marinated for a long time so the flavor was lighter and less fermented (personal taste. I personally prefer it to be more sour/fermented but it was still enjoyable regardless.) The seafood pancake was a good size and was cut in fourths. It was $5, a good value. The prices of everything else were fair and for the price it was a very enjoyable meal. I ordered the Dogani-tang, one of my favorite dishes. I enjoyed it, they were pretty generous with the amount of meat that they serve. My friends ordered the kalbitang and the gomtang supreme and enjoyed it but have had better elsewhere. Overall I would return again if I were in the area.

3.5 for the taste First time trying gomtang and don't think it's my thing. It's way too bland for my liking We got the gomtang deluxe 3.5/5: more flavorful than the kkorigomtang. But I didn't like that the rice was in the soup.. meat was also on the smaller portion Kkorigamtang 3/5: very bland and even when you add salt. It just tastes like salty water and liked that there was noodles Seafood pancake 4/5: a little thick but decent texture and flavor Best thing was the side of kimchi and radish! Super flavorful and fresh I'm sure gomtang itself is super healthy and has plenty of collagen but don't think I would get it again

A solid spot that has one of those menus with just a few items, so you know they specialize in making those dishes really good I got the gomtang deluxe and I like how much scallions and meat were in the soup. The rice inside was perfectly cooked!

Finally got to try this place I heard so much about on a Christmas day with wife because it was…read morefrigid and we wanted a warm bowl of Korean "tang"(soup). Finding parking is quite challenging given the location on a busy commercial street, so make sure you can come earlier than meal time to have better luck. They have waiting seats OUTSIDE so yeah I suppose it's quite popular at times. 1. ATMOSPHERE (3/5) - This location is small and it's pretty straightforward place. But I still found it cozy, with decent amount of seating (I think it can handle 15-20 max) and little details like wall with wood ledges and coat hangers were a nice touch. Seating was comfortable, though we tied our down parkas around our waist as another party had hung theirs on our side of coat hangers. 2. FOOD (4/5) - We dove right in to try their famous gejang (~Korean raw crab "ceviche") and ordered two of their namesake gookbap (rice with soup) to see how they are. Here's how it went down. - Gejang (App, $20, 2/5) - I had a hunch that on a holiday perhaps I should not order this, but my craving for succulent crab flesh be damned, I went for it and unfortunately, the meat was not well-marinated as I had feared. Gejang is a dish that has to sit in the complex soy-based pickling liquid for some time... and if restaurant is too busy churning them out or if it's slow season they won't do this properly. It not only wasn't fully marinated, I think the marinade was off because the spiciness was way out of balance and was overpowering. Perhaps knowing that it didn't have enough time to marinade the kitchen put extra diced jalapenos to compensate? Because that's exactly what it tasted like - you can't fool me. I tried to salvage the dish by asking a confused-looking girl server for some sugar, but yeah, can't un-do the overpowered marinade with sprinkling of sugar. This was really unfortunate as I was looking forward to a good bite. - Ahjae Gookbap (Main, $18, 5/5) - Thankfully, their namesake gookbap was spot-on to salvage our dining. Generous slabs of succulent beef on the bone and off the bone was swimming in a hearty beef/bone broth that tasted clean and focused. Portion was good, and can I say their banchan of fish cake moochim & unfermented kimchi & ggakdugi(radish kimchi) simply ROCKS? That was some serious deliciousness and dare I say value at $18 at a day and age where hamburger costs over $10! You win at life by ordering this! 3. SERVICE (4/5) - Our server girl was attentive and food came out early on though later it was a bit hard to get her attention promptly. We found ourselves putting hands in the air, and wavin' like we don't care... for a little while. They provide gloves & metal bin for gejang which was a nice touch for people to keep their fingers clean. One thing I'd like to mention: Plastic cup they served water in was all chipped on the rim so we instead went and got water from their hot & cold water dispenser which had metal cups (as many korean restaurants do). I'd suggest them to replace all these old plastic cups with metal ones for health reasons. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal. I'd chock up the gejang mishap to it being a holiday. I hope chef was just off with the marinade that day because I am a certified gejang pro(I catch and make my own) and that balance ain't it. But I will give it another try during warmer month and we'll definitely be back to try sooyook moochim, oyster jeon & other great soup offerings.

2nd time coming here. Small restaurant with a few tables. Thankfully when we came (Saturday…read moreevening), there was one table available and it was the same table as last time! Ordered three things: 1) marinated crabs, small size (5/5). Always a must-get here. 2) ddukbaegi bulgogi (4.5/5) - Thinly sliced prime marinated beef ribeye casserole with rice cake and glass noodle and mushroom served in a sizzling hot pot. Really flavorful and so good to have on a cold day. 3) ahjae ppyo jjim (4.5/5) - Braised prime beef meat bones in soy reduction with carrots, radish, dates, chestnut, rice cake and glass noodles. We got non-spicy. It came in a HUGE bowl. Definitely meant to be shared with a group. Took leftovers home and it was still yummy the next day mixed with knife-cut noodles I had at home.

This time around, it's a stronger 5 out of 5 because of our waiter was amazing. Ugh, I can't remember his name. He was on top of everything and making sure our food was grilled in a timely manner. He was quick to follow up with orders/requests that didn't come through when the kitchen didn't bring them out. Usually my gripe or disclaimer I give to people is that Wooga is great at everything except wrapping up things on the end. In the past, whenever I went, it would take forever (!!!!!) to get our check and pay. It was so frustrating but this time around, it was a bit faster. It's a win-win situation because we get to pay and leave and the restaurant has another table for customers. Though on the pricier side, Wooga does check off all the boxes of: -amazing meat quality -amazing & attentive service -they don't skimp on banchans (side dishes that I heard other restaurants are starting to limit) -several meat combo options -best Korean steamed egg in the North Jersey area We tried the thinly sliced oxtails, which were really good but pretty pricey for $38cash/$39.90card for 11oz of it. There are some things that are inconvenient (long waits, very small parking lot) but it's easy to overlook them once you have a meal at Wooga. Things to know before you go: -Their menu is updated on their website if you want to check that out before you go. -The earlier you go, the better your chance of being seated quickly. Weekends are definitely a longer wait, so plan ahead. -Their parking lot is small so it fills up super quickly, so you'll have to park across the street and play Frogger (maybe you might be too young to know this reference?) to cross the 4 lanes of Palisade Ave. -When you arrive, make sure to check in with the host/hostess so that you could get a pager to know when your table is ready. Your turn can come pretty fast sometimes depending on the timing.

We decided on this place because rating was pretty good and was open late. It's located in a plaza with Korean market, liquor store, cafe and such. Large parking area available in the plaza. Inside is small but clean and gives off traditional Korean restaurant vibe with of course Korean music. There were quite few Korean customers as well as staffs so i knew we were in the right place. They specialize in Korean beef soup. We ordered rice cake and dumplings and special beef rib soup. The fish came with purple rice and various kimchi and pickled veggies side dishes. They also serve korean hot tea along side the dishes. My special beef rib soup was very light and clear but full of beef flavor. Little touch with salt and pepper with pickled veggies and rice paired with very well. The meats were very tender and flavorful as well. Portion is quite large and i was not able to finish my bowl although i did help with another bowl of rice from my partner. My partner got the rice cake and dumplings beef soup. This one was a but lighter and needed more salt flavoring but also good. She liked her's better as she doesn't like heavier and fattier meat/broth. Salt and peppers are provided to adjust your seasoning as needed. Even though they could not finish the dishes i throughly enjoyed the food. What i like about Korean dishes is that even some are heavy and fatty they include lots of vegetables and healthy ingredients which makes it feel like you had a healthy meal and lots of nutrients despite eating out. Service was minimal but adequate. Overall it was very good authentic Korean restaurant that offers solid Korean beef soup. If you want to try authentic Korean beef soup and you are in the area this is the place.

I appreciated the smart service, where the galbi was cooked on a separate table to keep things moving. Complimentary soup, steamed eggs, and a variety of banchan added to the meal's value. The staff was attentive, though their demeanor could have been warmer. Its proximity to H-Mart is a huge bonus!
