First time to this Korean spot after 10 years and the place hasn't changed much. We were seated right away and were given warm and cold corn/barley teas. The banchan were not as many as your other restaurants but the portions were huge. My seafood pancake was savory with the right amount of crunch. The soft tofu soups were served with a side of fresh whole eggs. I was a little disappointed because they don't serve the rice in stone pots anymore! I was looking forward to that burned rice tea. First off, on a cold day, I appreciate the immediate hot tea to the table. I really needed that. A1 service for that. Now for the soup and banchan. Banchan spread was unique. I rarely see broccoli as a side but it was definitely tasty. Everything felt made in house so that's good. Plus the size of those pickled cucumbers and amount of kimchi, bean sprouts and fish cake was definitely needed. The egg was tiny which kinda made me sad because I wish I had 2 eggs. Recently ordered takeout from here. We had the seafood pancake, mixed tofu soup, and bibimbap. The pancake was super oily, and everything else was fine. It's pretty expensive now. Everything came out to almost $60! I will say though, that they still have the best cucumber kimchi around. Arriving just at 5pm there were a few customers and the place was low key. First I love the fact that they have parking right in front of the restaurant do if you drive one less thing to worry. Immediately the waited day us down and brought us barley tea and menus. The place is humble & comfortable, feel a little bit like dining tables at old homes. A few minutes later, she came by again with banchan and quickly took our order. We decided to get the seafood pancake, bibimbop in clay pot and seafood tofu soup. The waiting was fair and our food quickly came. The bibimbop was hot. Once it came, I added the gochachung sauce and stir up the rice. The rice was crispy around the edges and the rice stayed hot through dinner. It was well done! The seafood pancake was good size. My husband was craving some soup tonight. They offer a 6% discount for using cash. They don't accept Amex, rather annoying to be told after the fact. Not a fan of supporting small businesses it seems. This place has a build-your-own Soondubu soup offering, how cool is that. This is where you go for some soft tofu soup, it's really busy and packed inside. We were able to get a seat luckily. We were able to get the last parking spot in the small lot for the restaurant. It's all about tofu soup here. No spicy tteokbokki here though. We ordered two kimchi tofu soups with added sliced rice cakes for an add-on fee and with the meat broth, but no beef meat in it. Our waitress first told us no rice cake adds, but I asked her to add it for a fee. She agreed, although no mention of what the cost to add it would be at all. $31.88 The banchans: kimchi, broccoli, cucumber, bean sprouts. All are really fresh and nicely seasoned and cooked too. The rice is sticky and perfectly cooked. As a Korean you must always take one spoonful of rice before you start your meal. The male waiter that didn't take our orders dropped off our soups and assumed I wanted the extra spicy hot tofu soup, it was for my husband. We swapped since his extra spicy is significantly more red and has much more red chili in it. We had a lot of different people waiting on us all day, no one was consistent except for the bus boy. We received more banchans and tea from the bus staff, as always our service is always better from the bus boys than our wait staff. Our waitress and the male waiters were not the warmest folks to us at all. Our waitress told me that the bill was for her to keep. I asked her for a copy then. She took the bill and ended up giving me the copy of the bill she took away in the end, because she couldn't get me another copy at all. The kimchi tofu comes with small eggs to crack into your soup. The kimchi tofu soup has really good heat and flavor to it, for the price, it's a smaller portion than what we get at our favorite Korean restaurant back at home. The meat broth is quite good. The add-on rice cake gives you 5 slices total. The tofu soups are worth a try as are their banchans, just come expecting less than a warm reception and service. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I came here a while ago and loved it and was looking forward to coming back today but they turned me and my service dog away in a very rude manner. I showed multiple pieces of documentation for my dog and they immediately said "I don't think this is a service dog," without even properly looking at the documents. They do not know what services my dog provides and I have never been ushered out of a restaurant for having one. This place needs to learn how to be accommodating! I will have to say - they have some of the best taking side dishes that I've had - plenty of fish cake, cumcumbers, kimchi - and they gave a significant amount and they were all so tasty. I decided to get the non-spicy tofu ramen soup which was a big portion and pretty good (it was the perfect dish for a cold day outside). The flavors were good, tofu was soft and the ramen was not soggy in the dish - I did wish we had an option to add an egg or something which I think would have made it better. Super authentic Korean restaurant specializing in soondubu (spicy tofu soup), while also offering a variety of other classic Korean dishes. I ordered the Bibimbap ($17), which was pretty good - the rice was good (more moist than usual in a good way) and the veggies were cooked well. I do wish they added some more flavor to the bowl and that it had a bit more beef though. The $17 price was fair. The small banchan side dishes were very good and plentiful, especially the spicy cucumber and bean sprouts. The restaurant can get very busy during dinner hours and you can see the staff constantly running around trying to serve everyone. Interestingly, you can place your order after entering and before even being seated so that there is less wait time after you actually get a table. Because the staff are always running around, they don't really say much but are still somewhat attentive. We initially waited around 15 minutes for a table and then waited around the same time after being seated for the food to actually arrive. The restaurant is decorated in a traditional Korean style with wooden furniture and designed to look as if you are inside some sort of pagoda sort of structure. There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant, but it can be completely filled during busy hours. Luckily, the restaurant is right on Main Street so there is plenty of other parking available nearby. Family dined here yesterday and there's been changes. they've expanded their menu. main thing I noticed that changed is the rice no longer come in a big clay or iron pot where the cooked rice gets burnt. the rice only comes out in the metal bowls. This restaurant is known for tofu soup which makes up a big chunk of the menu. The rest of the menu includes some other standard Korean dishes. About the tofu soup - I am in love with the strong umami flavor packed with a spicy kick. All the banchan are very tasty as well and change day by day. They have some of the best kimchi I've ever eaten. Overall I give strong recommendation for this place. I've been hunting for a good soft tofu stew spot since moving and have had a hard time finding a place that measures up to my all time favorite place in Minneapolis, however this place was pretty good. The banchan was a great selection and was very fresh. The stew is very flavorful and the rice cake soup was especially delicious, although a little salty for my tastes. SDB is my go to on cold days, and my friend took me here to try it out! I ordered the Pork SDB, spicy. We started off with banchan which was really good, especially the cucumber kimchi. The SDB came out steaming hot, and there was plenty of meat and tofu. I didn't find the spice level to be there, so maybe I'll go up a level next time. The broth was good (and not salty), but it did lack a rich flavor. Prices are reasonable, and the service is good. There's plenty of seating, so I'd imagine things would move quick on a busy night.
