Easily my top 5 favorite bbq spots of all time! Only problem is it's located in New Jersey! Need to have one in NYC! Staff were super attentive and quick on service! All the banchan were top noch! Best marinated galbi I've ever had!!!
Came here late at night craving gopchang and didn't want to go into the city, so this Fort Lee location was a convenient choice. We ordered the beef intestine combo with large intestine, small intestine, tripe, and rice cakes. The assortment was generous and easily enough for two people. The intestines were properly cleaned and grilled, with no off smells, and the tripe had a nice chew. Rice cakes were a good addition and grilled well. We also ordered the seafood pancake, which was surprisingly good--crispy on the outside and soft inside, not overly greasy. Overall, portions are large and satisfying, especially if you're specifically craving Korean-style beef intestines late at night. Prices are on the higher side, but that's expected for this type of restaurant. Solid option in Fort Lee.

We came to this location to celebrate a birthday. The decor is nice, the service is great, and the food was delicious! My personal favorites are the cheesy corn, the rice cakes, prime rib, and fried rice. We will be back for more!
This is truly a hidden gem. My experience with Korean BBQ started in Koreatown in midtown manhattan. For the past decade it's been a similar experience wherever I go UNTIL my visit to Obaltan. This was different in 2 aspects; 1) they offered shellfish, and 2) the cooking surface was a deep pan instead of the raised dome grill which I was used to. In fact at the end of the meal, they made a fried rice with the seasoned pan that was delicious! However, ALL of the food was delicious, and the service was friendly & attentive even though we were close to closing time. This is a MUST if you're in the area!!! (Plus on the weekends it seems that they do karaoke upstairs!)
Def a place better for a group of 6, esp if you want to try live clam grills. The portion is just quite large. Overall very good besides a group of 4 we each had to eat 5 clams Spicy Stir Fried Pork & Vegetables - good but didn't know there's a lot of rice cake in the dish as well should have be indicated. Spicy Bai-Top Whelk With Vegetables & Chewy Noodles - it's a cold dish, very spicy good flavor. Make sure you sign up waitlist beforehand as the store is small.
This is a kbbq restaurant that's extremely seafood oriented as well! We didn't wait too long for our reservation, which was during busy hour (7:00pm on a Saturday). We ordered the clam combo, which came with the seafood Casino on the side. Also, we got an army stew and corn cheese, both of which were very good compliments to the main course. This is a good spot for couples, but it also is accommodating to larger parties as well. We did a hike and were able to properly refuel after. Definitely recommend and I can't wait to try the meat combo next time.
Good spot for Kbbq in the Fort Lee area. Not busy on a Saturday night, July 4th weekend, fresh ingredients, good service, (Owen is the bestest! - great attitude, attentive). We had the prime beef and seafood special. Definitely more than enough food for 3 people.
Came here with some friends on a Thursday night and got a table for six no problem. It's my first time having seafood barbecue, and I am hooked the clams with butter garlic are super clean and delicious, everything was so good! The veggies are delicious too. I mean, focus was hanging out with friends but i definitely wanna go again to write a more detailed review
I had this place book marked and came after pickleball. Sadly I'm disappointed. Everything here is so sweet and I'm not sure why. My japchae was overly sweet the salad was super sweet and the bulgolgi soup was sweet. I think the only dish that was decent was the seafood soup and the kimchi fried rice. Service was mid. Water wasn't refilled and we had to ask for rice for our tofu soup.
Top notch Korean Cuisine, open late night till 2am, that's always a plus.. Staff Very Pleasant, helpful and on Point.. Alan our server was the man ...A+ they make their own dressing that they put on your starter salad, and it is by far the best salad dressing I have ever tasted!! Meats for barbecue is of high-quality and worth the $$.. their kimchi fried rice is also very good. Try them out if you like K food, won't be disappointed..
You have to come here if you love seafood!! I loved the clams on the grill it was so different and fun!! They also have a solid beef and pork KBBQ menu selection as well and all of the delish sides. The service is amazing and they do such a great job here def check them out!!
Cuisine: 7 Service: 7 Decor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 7 I'm craving some of these grilled clams right now. I know most people don't think of Korean food when it comes to seafood. However, this late night restaurant specializing in grilled seafood was the perfect place for me after a concert at Metlife Stadium a few weeks ago. The package we got had three tasty scallops with cheese for the grill and a delicious egg soufflé. It also came with three banchan, which is pretty minimal. However, the worst for me was the shrimps and mussels, which I really don't want. All I need are those juicy and briny clams to be satisfied. This is not a place I would come often, but a place I will come back to whenever I'm in the mood.

I've been wanting to come here for a while. We got the beef combo. The beef is very great quality and I loved everything that came with the combo. We got steamed egg, kimchi soup, and a fried rice/egg combo on the grill which was super cool because they use a blow torch to cook the eggs. It was such a fun experience and I loved the way they put the meat on top of the onion/potato piece after every round. It made it so that the meat wasn't just sitting on the grill waiting to be burned. The servers were also very attentive and brought us a water refill when we needed it. read more

I'm pretty sure I could've trekked to Mordor and back in the time it took me to get to Obaltan on a Friday night, but ugh, it's fine, whatever. Mordor doesn't have grilled clams, right? Anyway, come here to feast on the Clam Gui Combo, which gives you an ocean's worth of the briney mollusks + an assortment of other seafood bites for $52...for two people! Seriously. I don't think you'll find a better clam deal unless the city of Boston knocked on your door and offered itself for free. Other good bites: Kimchi Pajeon, large and crispy. And Boodae Jjigae, when you need sausage ramen stew to warm your insides. If I can get a giant eagle to fly me here, I'd totally come back. read more

We walked in as a group of 6 for Sunday dinner. We were seated immediately. Some of the servers were attentive and others were not. The food was tasty though. We got the beef and pork sets, which came with steamed egg, kimchi stew, and salads. They cook and cut the meat for you. They gave us two sets of banchan so each side of the table could reach. Each person had sauces as well. At some point we got new plates. They forgot our scallops but we were too full anyway. They had it on the bill and we had to return to get it taken off. read more
Obaltan is a solid spot for Korean BBQ, offering good value, especially with their surf and turf combo. The combo came with beef, clams/mussels/shrimp, steamed egg, soybean paste soup, and radish fried rice. The meat quality was good overall, though the beef brisket was a bit too lean and ended up on the dry side for our taste. The radish fried rice was just okay--nothing particularly memorable--but the seafood, steamed egg, and soup rounded out the meal nicely. read more

One of the many kbbq spots in the korea town of NJ. I went to try there after reading the raving reviews. It is a small but popular spot so try to get there early before the crowd. Although there is a link to get on the waitlist, the restaurant was not accepting online waitlist when we went. We had to get on an in-person waitlist when we got there and there was already four parties ahead on a 5:30pm Saturday. For a party of four, we got the surf and turf combo and pork belly addon. The staff were really attentive and there was always one person grilling and looking after how the meat was cooked every few minutes. I liked how the beef melted while eating but I was not a fan of the "turf" portion. Seafood was boiled in a very salty broth and there was still a strong scent. They were okay. I would rather just get the meat combo. The fried rice included in the combo was the perfect way to end the meal. The meat quality is decent but I feel like it is overpriced. -6.4/10 read more

Not sure what happened but the overall quality went down. Clams were chewy, and also didn't have much variations in the combo like the used to. Just mostly little neck clams and larger ones, few shrimp, and few scallops that were tiny frozen kind. Egg bomb was burnt. Salad had way too much dressing and no crunch to lettuce. Also, it should be criminal to serve warm soju. read more
The plot thickens for the spicy braised monkfish saga! My latest takeout experience has been that the amount has decreased compared to the previous times that I have gotten this dish, and now the experience has been made even worse because the takeout rice was old instead of being from that day and the packaging of the dish was horrendous with sauce seeping out and dirtying the car seat that it was place on during the drive home. Will we still get the spicy monkfish once in a while? Yes, because it's one of my mom's favorites and we haven't found a restaurant for it (yet). Hopefully, I will be able to update the review with positive feedback instead of more negative ones. read more

Mhmmm... my tummy is happy. My recommendations: -Surf & Turf combo -Beef Combo -Pork Combo -Scallops w/ spicy mayo and cheese Been here a total of 4 times and have always left satisfied. The quality of the meat is good but it's not the BEST KBBQ I've ever had. It's also not the MOST flavorful K food but I still enjoy eating here. Great for a casual late night dinner. PROS: -Open late until 2:30am M-S and 11:30pm on Sundays -Food and portions are consistently good -Service is attentive and quick. They cook the food for you. Some are friendlier/more talkative and personable than others but overall service is good! CONS: -Parking is in a small lot so it can get tight. Pretty limited -Pricing is on the higher end... This is NOT an AYCE so I recommend getting the combos for a better bang for your buck as ordering a la carte can add up quick. They also have other traditional Korean dishes and appetizers ranging from ~$17-$40 -Wait times can get long during peak hours so I suggest putting your name on the wait list ahead of time. You can reserve your spot via Google or by scanning a QR code there in person. After coming here 4 times, I would say the beef combo or surf and turf combo are the best on the menu. I've never ordered the traditional dishes so I can't speak on that. The beef combo is advertised for 2 people but... I will admit that if you have a huge appetite you MIGHT still be a bit hungry. The beef is tender and juicy, but not seasoned. So you have to use their sauces or condiments to add an extra kick of flavor. My favorite is the soybean sauce! The surf and turf includes the beef combo with an added steamed clams + assorted seafood (mussels, shrimp, crab). This is advertised for 3-4 people and I have been more than satisfied ordering this with just another person. We eat a lot okay.. LOL. Seafood was good as well (but not the best seafood I've had) and also comes with its own sauces. One of my favorite parts of the combos is the KIMCHI FRIED RICE WITH EGG!!! They use a culinary torch to cook it. Side dishes include kimchi, kimchi radish, two salads (one with a sesame oil dressing and one with a sweet/citrus-y dressing), egg souffle, kimchi tofu soup, jalapenos, soybean paste, and more sauces... I will be a returning customer to try more dishes. I would bump my review to another star if they had an AYCE option or bigger meat portions for the price. read more

Obaltan is hands-down one of the best Korean BBQ spots in the area! The meats are super high-quality - juicy, tender, and cooked perfectly every time. But what really makes this place stand out are their clams and seafood - fresh, flavorful, and so fun to grill. The service is attentive without hovering, and the staff make sure everything runs smoothly. The vibe is clean and modern, great for both groups and date nights. Definitely try the clam BBQ and the fried rice with the blow-torched egg - amazing finish to the meal. A bit pricey, but totally worth it for the quality and experience. Highly recommend! read more

It seems like the specialty here is clams. I've never had clams on a grill before and it was good! Very tender and not chewy like you'd expect. The soup stole the show though. It was perfectly seasoned. The jalapeño slices added the right amount of flavor to the soup.. it gave it a little kick without being actually spicy. The brisket was good as well. I didn't enjoy the mussels- felt they were dry and bland. The shrimp was good though. I wish there was more side dishes.. Went on a weekday night and it was pretty empty. It is a small place and I heard it can get very busy on the weekends. Server was very attentive and stood nearby to cook for us. read more
Service was great however the food itself was pretty average in my opinion. We ordered the Beef Combo and the Clam Combo. The seafood was served first and it was cooking on our grill while they grilled the beef elsewhere. The seafood was pretty fresh. I was excited to try the scallop because it was seasoned and marinated but I didn't really taste anything from the scallop. The short ribs and ribeye were just ok, I felt like the meat was tough but the beef brisket was good! The kimchi fried rice came out shaped like a heart but the taste of the fried rice was just okay, it was a bit lacking. My cousin and sister had been here before and they said their experience was different but the one time that we went the food was just okay. It seems like this place isn't consistent so I guess it's a hit or miss. read more
Love this place! It's one of the only Korean spots that have grilled seafood as an option. I've been here a few times and it's always been solid. We got the clam sauna this time and it was decent but I prefer the clams on the grill. Also have tried the rabokki, seafood pancake, and odeng tang. All were super solid. We got the meat + seafood combo which also included fried rice. Definitely check this place out! read more

Eun was so sweet! The food is spectacular. It's amazing how well they make it and blend everything together. The flavors are really incredible. This is not a cheap quality food. They use really good quality USDA beef and everything is fresh. Absolutely will come here again! read more

Quick to be seated and serviced by 2 very nice auntys. Ordered the pork combo for two with egg soufflé and kimchi soup and for drinks, sweet raspberry wine. Side dishes were delicious, favorite are the salad (with yogurt dressing possibly?) and pickled radish! Kimchi soup was also yummy. They also grill the meat and veggies for you, plattering the cooked meat on top of the veggies. Restaurant is overall very ambient with clean tables and complimentary posters/wall art. Would recommend checking this place out! read more
