I came here recently for the sushi since everyone seems to be raving about it. I walked in to place a take out order. I will start by saying I was greeted immediately. The person helping me was extremely nice and offered me a drink and an orange while I waited which I thought was amazing! 5+ STARS ON SERVICE! I ordered 2 of their most popular rolls (I don't recall the name of them but I asked the gentleman helping me if they were a favorite and he said yes to both). One was tempura style, one was more of a fresh roll. I thought they were both good. I wasn't crazy over the moon about either. I didn't get this immense "WOW Factor" that everyone seems to be getting. I've frequented a lot of sushi places and usually they are the middle of the road. There are a few places in downtown FTW that are much more of a favorite for me (Blue and Axiom). I guess the best way I could describe this sushi was "meh" or "forgettable". Great little place. The cucumber salad was good , but when I got my bento box , it was cold . I had the spicy crunchy roll , California , and spider . Not what we expected . Last night will be the last time i will eat at this place.. sashimi was bad quality, my tako taste like sponge doesn't taste fresh I can squeeze it and a lot of water comes out of it..my salmon looks bad, doesn't taste good. My kids sushi rolls were falling apart so it was hard for them to eat. Server was bad. Ahoyama was a late choice after our first pick closed early. We had 4 kids with us, 2 under 4. I won't make any comment on the service due to that, though they tolerated us very well! I tried out the Stuffed Jalapeños for the appetizer. The crab meat, cream cheese put to shame any stuffed jalapeño I've ever eaten. It was absolutely fantastic! For dinner, I had the Carribbean Roll which was supposedly the spiciest thing on their menu. It had fresh mango and tuna in a sweet Carribbean sauce. It was not actually spicy at all (to me anyway), but it was very, very good. I knocked it a star because the waitress was not properly informed on the menu to tell me what was the hottest, but other than that, our experience was great. We had been to this place about 15 years ago and it was terrible so I'm guessing there is new ownership for sure! This place definitely surpassed my expectations! This is our family sushi place. Everyone knows us and we enjoy the experience every time. The sushi is top notch and what little we have had of the non sushi items was great too. perfect size restaurnt to have close contact with the chefs but also be big enough to handle a decent weekend evening rush. Not the best I've had but not the worst either. Haven't been in a while so I can't comment on the service, but I get delivery regularly so I know the food. It's pretty standard 4star sushi - however they tend to go heavy on the spice. Even things you don't think would have spice in it (cucumber salad) has a little kick to it. However they kindly made it for me and was very delicious! Not Bad, but I think the reviews are over-rated! First of, I want to say that this place has the potential of being a great traditional Japanese Restaurant. We went on a Friday evening and the ambiance was spot on when we walked in. Friendly, mostly Japanese/Asian staff, a nice menu, good looking sushi bar, and a sake bar...everything good so far. The "Shu Mai" and Miso soup were traditional and authentic, the Junmai Ginjo Sake excellent. Considering the the authenticity of the "Shu Mai" we inquired about "Agedashi Tofu", but were informed that it wasn't available. Next we decided to order some Sashimi and once again were met with disappointment when the waitress informed us that Uni and Scallops were not available. So we decided to stick to the basics; Yellow Tail and Tuna Sashimi with a side of cucumber salad, at least we knew that those would be fresh given that it was Friday evening and any reputable Japanese Restaurant serves the freshest fish on that day...how wrong we were. The Yellow Tail Sashimi lacked any firmness and was mushy to the point of separation, truly disappointing considering the price and time of week. The Tuna Sashimi was no better, definitely not fresh, and we ended up leaving most of it on the plate. Our biggest surprise came with the cucumber salad, which was unlike any we have ever eaten in a Japanese restaurant. We expected the traditional slices in Ponzu sauce with black sesame and instead got some Americanized deseeded cucumbers sliced into quarters and served in a creamy sauce. Next we figured that we try their Dragon Roll which looked incredible in the menu photo, however that too was less than ideal. The Sushi rice was not seasoned well and the entire roll was falling apart. My intention is not to bash this place, but our experience was sooooo disappointing! Sadly I feel that the culprit of all this is a lack of solid business, which in turn leads to sub-par quality and old fish. Unfortunately when it comes to Sashimi that is not a good recipe for success. At the beginning, I mentioned that this place has great potential, and I meant it. The atmosphere is spot on and a couple dishes were quite good, but given the fact that Japanese Restaurants are " a dime a dozen" and pricey, you better make sure that your fish is fresh and/or distinguish yourself by doing something different like "Tei Tei Robata Bar" has done in Dallas (Great Country Style Japanese Cusine, with amazing Shushi). Good Sukiyaki, Traditional Yakisoba, a variety of Yakitori, cold buckwheat noodle in the Summer, and so on... . There is nothing like that in the Mid-Cities area and I think this place could pull it off! I hope to come back and have a better experience. read more

This review is loooong overdue. I remember going to Ahoyama about 10 years ago when I was still at TCC for college. This place brings back so many wonderful memories for me. Even now, when I'm in town, I'd bring my family here. It is very consistent. After all these years, it still tastes exactly the same. I think with Ahoyama, you get the kind of sushi that is very American where there are lots of sauces, but that's what I like sometimes. Ahoyama somewhat introduced me to sushi and it's a good place to start if you're new to sushi. You can also get sashimi here. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. Their staff is also consistent. They're always very nice and accommodating. One of my favorite parts about dining here is the dessert they give you at the end of the meal. It's oranges in beautiful slices. When I was a youngin in college, it was a really wonderful culinary experience to have for the first time. read more

I was very disappointed in this place. We ordered a sashimi platter and everything tasted bland, almost as if it was pre-washed then served. No texture, nothing. Ordered a roll with crab. We got it & it was imitation. If you advertise crab, then give me crab, not this imitation stuff. This seems to be the place for the Colleyville upper crust who haven't been out of the area.
