We saw that they offered an all you can eat option and came here excited to try something so close to home for 2 people. While we wanted to like it here we were very disappointed with the sushi itself. The rolls were mainly rice and the toppings, if fish, were verrrry small. You're able to order 4 rolls a round but we opted for 3 and then 2 with some of the appetizer options like gyoza, cucumber salad, and a miso soup. For the price, yes you get affordable sushi, but the quality isn't really there. The rice to fish ratio was not good and the Wasabi tasted very light, almost diluted as well. The gyoza was probably the best I've ever had! I usually prefer steamed but these were cooked so perfectly and had great flavor! The sushi was of course so yum and I didn't realize it was all you can eat for just $24! Super excited to come back and try more but this time I only tried the gyoza, dragon roll, and tiger king roll (they were delicious and so fresh). My server was so sweet and the sushi maker checked in that everything was good, too. The restaurant is small and quiet, which made it even better! This is perfect for a night out with friends, a date night, or a treat yourself night after work (like I did ). First off all food reviews should be about the food only. Not complaining or whining about the wait staff ok we get it humans can be cruel and dismissive, but how was the food? Order it first instead of last the roll is very rich and heavy. I had to unbutton my pants and eat ever so slowly that was torture. My favorite roll was the Carnival roll the tuna on this roll is bright fresh mixed with spicy bit the flavors merry perfectly bringing a wildness to the spicy with a subtle balance of citrus. It took my breath away, however I'm extremely biased to anything with spicy tuna in it. Me and my wife washed it all down with 2 sides of eel sauce and water no complaints ever, fresh, elegant, and are you really gonna split hairs on rice to fish ratio when it is all you can eat? I'm totally shocked at all the positive reviews. This place is a total disaster. 1) It was about 55° outside but they had their ac full blast, along with their fans. We told the waitress and she laughed. 2) the lighting is directly in your face and very distracting. It felt like being interrogated. 3) Steak tatiki says it was seared on the menu. They brought out cold slices of roast beef with a heavy dose of sauce and cold, literally rotten pieces of lettuce 4) Speaking of menu, we weren't given one. No, there's no scanned menu either. We asked for a menu and she says "what menu?" Ummm the dinner menu. She's confused. Looks around. Then goes and gets it and says "this menu?" Wow! Do you even work here? 5) Ordered a side of broccoli. She says "what do you mean a side of broccoli?" I don't know what to tell you ma'am. Broccoli is broccoli. After an awkward few seconds she walked away. 6) our meals came 15 min apart. Very awkward. 7) Rice for the chicken teriyaki was so overcooked that it turned into paste. Utter garbage. 8) sushimi was tiny, thinly sliced, not fresh. See photo. Pathetic. 9) our waitress literally left. Like left the building. We had no one waiting on us for the second half of the meal. Finally, the guy from the back came over and handed our check like "oh wow you're still here?" 10) every item on the sushi menu is fried. Shrimp tempura galore. Went to this place on a whim after deciding I really wanted to splurge and thus hunted for an all you can eat sushi place near home. Totally dead in-house on a weeknight, but I think they do quite a bit of business for delivery, so the kitchen stays busy. I got my AYCE sheet and ordered 3 rolls on the first round and 1 roll plus gyoza on the second round. My choices: Haltom - spicy crab, tuna, and avocado with fresh salmon on top (served with ponzu drizzled on it, though the menu doesn't say so) Rainbow - california with various fresh fish and avocado on top (same with the ponzu) Dragon - california and avocado with eel on top Watauga - shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and avocado with krab stick, spicy mayo, wasabi, eel sauce, and crunch on top Gyoza (deep fried) All the fresh rolls were good not great. Everything tasted okay, nothing wowed. And the amount of fish (or avocado) on top really was way too little. I kind of expected this, but even so, it was disappointing. The cooked Watauga roll was pretty delicious, but what else can you expect from fried shrimp, decadent sauces, and cream cheese? The gyoza were my least favorite pick. Dripping with grease. Overall, quite average. I am probably even being generous giving it 3 stars, but for all that the dishes were lacking, I could tell the chef paid attention and care to the technique and presentation. This place was recommended to us. We were never on that side of town (at least never eating on that side of town), so as avid sushi eaters, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out. [LOCATION & PARKING] This spot is hidden in a little strip within Haltom City. If you were driving fast, you'd miss it. If you aren't paying attention, you'd miss it. When you do find it, there is plenty of parking offered. My initial thoughts when walking in was that this was a cute little spot for an intimate and quiet dinner - plus the owner, who is also the only sushi chef there, was very nice and helpful. [FOOD] We took a look at the menu offered online before arriving, so we went in there with a mission - a mission to eat. Together, we ordered 6 different sushi items (valentine roll, cream cheese roll, ahi tower, yami yami roll, sunset roll, yellow tail heaven roll) and 3 hot plates (orange chicken, shrimp plate, and lo mein). These choices looked promising to us according to the photos on the online menu, especially the shrimp plate. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we sat down with our food, we noticed that for all of the sushi, the presentation could have been nice but the ingredients were all dull in color. From the sushi rice, raw fish, and vegetables/sauces, everything looked like it's been left out and oxidized for a bit, or the ingredients just weren't that fresh. For example - the yellow tail wasn't bright in appearance, the tuna was almost reddish brown, and the sushi rice took on a subtle grey tint to it. That should have been our first hint of how it was all going to taste... dull, just like it looked. Everything lacked flavor, and really just reminded me of a knock-off version of our favorite little sushi place, MKs Sushi (if you've been following my reviews or my food blog, you all know I always always talk about this place)! Moving on to the hot plates, the orange chicken was not... orange, as our 7 year old said. Again, lacking color. I also noticed that it wasn't really fried either, I would compare it to the grilled nuggets from Chick-Fil-A, but soggy. The lo mein was just like any Chinese lo mein, greasy, but that's what makes it delicious hahaha. Now to the worst part of our experience with Goldfish Sushi. The shrimp plate :( The shrimp plate is supposed to be fried, not really battered, with cream cheese, butter, and a mild chili sauce. In the photo, the shrimp looked like it would have had a nice crisp to it, with not too much sauce. Well this.... this was so soggy that the batter was falling apart, and it just tasted like soy sauce - none of the flavors mentioned above. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. 10/10 do not recommend. [SERVICE] It took awhile to get the food, but I didn't think much of it since I knew it was a family ran business, and it was essentially wife and husband putting everything together themselves. Like I said earlier, they were all very friendly and helpful! I really tried to like this place, but the food was all mediocre. I barely touched anything I ordered. I'll pick this place over Piranhas in downtown, over Kona Grill in West 7th, and over MKs sushi which was my favorite. And if you like Sushi Axiom you're just gross and have zero tastebuds. Goldfish has an all-you-can-eat for $22 each( they make it fresh, it's not pre-made). I can't eat more than 3 rolls so I usually go with their specialty rolls. Have not had a bad experience. All the fish tastes fresh, the flavor combinations all work. The chef is an artist and used to work for MKs. You won't find strawberries in a roll . The down fall was that the all you can eat Mondays menu is basically all CA rolls with other fish on top, the rolls were all very limited. But it was one of those "too good to be true" situations after finding that roach.
