We did notice a couple next to us who seemed really upset, and later I saw their review... honestly, I don't get it. You basically asked the chef to surprise you and then you got upset when your seafood tasted too fishy?? Our food was genuinely delicious. It's a little on the pricey side, but 100% worth it! Kai Sushi has been our go-to sushi restaurant for a long time, and we've always enjoyed eating here. Unfortunately, after our visit last night, we don't think we'll be returning. We ordered the Rainbow Sushi Tower, three Oyster Shooters, the Baked Cod, and the Giant Roll, 1 Martini, 1 bottle Sake. On the drive home, we both started feeling sick, and within minutes of walking through our front door, we were both extremely ill. We were sick throughout the entire night. Of course, we can't say for certain what caused it, but the timing made us concerned that something we ate may have been the reason. It left us wondering whether the seafood turnover is as fresh as it should be. It's disappointing because this was our favorite Friday night sushi spot. I take that review back. I guess they decided to go to the other end and go down with quality. The fish is not that fresh any more. Yet, they charge arms and legs. The portion size is the biggest problem of all. You cannot charge customers over $40 and have them leave hungry, especially when the customer is short asian guy with tiny apetite. I cannot recommend this place any more. I rather just go to Kura Revolving Sushi nearby. Tried this place for the first time for a quick bite before catching a movie. The waitress was very nice and prompt. We ordered two spicy tuna rolls. The fish was fresh and the roll delicious. Knocked off one star because the bathroom seemed dated and smelled horrible, like sewer/ plumbing issue horrible. However, this is a contrast to the rest of the restaurant. Fantastic experience, I felt like the quality of the sushi was the best I've had in a long time, very fresh, even compared to some very high end places. If you're a nigiri person, it's impeccable. If you're a rolls person, they have all sorts of chefs creations as well as the classics. If you're a hand roll person, they have that too. And the appetizers were great too! DO NOT COME HERE FOR SUSHI. Worst omakase ever. We ordered 4 oysters, 1 cocktail, 1 miso soup, 1 house salad and 2 order of omakase. I ate one bite of each plate and stopped half way because my mouth taste disgusting and fishy. All around great experience. We started with miso soup and fired Gyoza. The miso was flavorful and the Gyoza was crispy. We got our drinks very quickly, our server was on top of it. I do not know who they bribed to have high reviews but this place does not even deserve 1 star. I went here to have dinner with my husband expecting good quality sushi. To my surprise everything tasted horrible. Let's start by addressing the wait staff. Although everyone welcomed us when we walked through the door it turned downhill from there. Our waitress was not attentive at all. We had to literally catch her attention in order for us to even begin our order. Each time we looked at her she was on her phone. We started with lychee martini which was extremely sweet and very little alcohol. ( fine to each their own). Miso soup came out and was the SALTIEST miso soup I've had with no tofu in site. Our house salad with ginger dressing was up next. It was presentable but the dressing was what you can say just soy sauce and ginger. (Salty again.) 4 oysters. The oysters were highly dressed with uni, caviar, truffle, and fish roe. The uni and caviar tasted normal, but everything else was fishy without sauce to balance. (Had to ask for lemon to eat my second one). My husband had talked to the chef and asked him to take us on a journey for our omakase and the chef agreed. Chef omakase ($80 each) we ordered two hoping things would change. What we ended up getting was two plates with eight pieces of fish each( total of 4 kinds of fish). No presentation or anything. What was mind boggling was we ordered 2 omakase. If we were not germaphobes or together why would they plate it on the same plate! The fish was just cut up fish. No topping, no extra seasoning or care place on a single piece to make it called "omakase". After having 1 bite of each we had to stop the chef from making anymore but our second side already came out. Which was a fish salad? We immediately stopped and told the waitress to stop the chef and we would pay for what was made and had came out. We were given the check and charged the whole thing including the desert( which we had not gotten yet). A total of $280 something. Out of the omakase we had 3 bites each. I understand paying for food that has already gotten to our table or the chef has already prepared but to get charged for things that were not made yet is ridiculous. We were so disappointed and made it clear to the chef and restaurant. They did not care what so ever. Spending 300 on food that is inedible is outrageous. We ended up having to leave here and go to a completely different sushi restaurant to have dinner. read more
