Intro: After exploring Rome to the fullest, I was looking for a late dinner. Ai Tre Tartufi is one of the most reviewed restaurants in Rome (with a good rating too) and it was within walking distance so I made my way to Piazza Navona. I was greeted and seated promptly at a table outside for some al fresco dining. Service (4.5/5): Quite strong by European standards. My waiter was attentive, efficient, and checked in on me to see how everything was. I didn't have to track him down which is often the case in Europe. They did rush me a little bit because it was close to closing time but no biggie. Ambiance (5/5): Al fresco dining is the way to go in Europe. And this restaurant does it better than most as it's located in the heart of Piazza Navona---one of the must-see town squares in Rome. There are several famous fountains in the piazza and it's a lively part of town. Drinks (4/5): I went with a special spritz that had both Aperol and Campari. When in Rome! Refreshing and bitter as you would expect from the classic Italian cocktail. Food (4.5/5): They started me off with some complimentary chips and peanuts with my cocktail as I was waiting for my meal. For my main dish, I went with the pasta arrabbiata. I had a lot of pasta during my Italy trip and this dish was in contention for the top of the list. The red sauce was addictive with great flavor and a little kick. The pork cheek on top gave some nice crunch to the dish. The pasta was perfectly cooked. They give you a choice of two different kinds of pasta and I went with the waiter's recommendation. My only real criticism is that my dish was served piping hot. To the point that I had to wait 10-15 minutes to be able to chow down. Overall: If you're looking for some al fresco dining in a picturesque setting, Ai Tre Tartufi makes for a solid choice. read more

Gelato is over priced. In the gelato store there is no where to sit, the table cost 10€ to sit which is ridiculous. They have some gelato flavors i've never heard of but they don't do samples and i ended up not liking my cheese cake flavor. Won't be coming back. read more

Today was an celebratory dinner at Ai Tre Tartufi on Piazza Navona. First off - service from Alex was awesome. Top notch from my fellow temporary New Yorker! lol Appetizers were great. The bruschetta with tomatoes and basil was very fresh and great. The pear and cheese appetizer was AMAZING! Main courses were lasagne al ragu, pasta and meatballs and pasta Amtriccana. Had lunch there after a long 10 days in Europe. Eating there was one of the highlights of the trip. Food was awesome and service even better. Had both indoor and outdoor seating. We ate outdoors and the atmosphere was like no other! One of the most pleasurable we had in the 4 countries we had visited. Valentino was our server and we had the best experience! He was kind and never made us feel like dumb tourists. He was attentive and even gave us some samples of limoncello to try. Food was great. These people are fantastic. Located right on Piazzi Navona. The service is top rated. Francisco and his twin Sabino are fun to be around. They appear to love their jobs and did a fantastic job. The first night we had Valentino as our server and he also was excellent. The owner Angelo is an excellent businessman. He makes sure that your needs as a customer comes first. He is not pushy. As you can see by the numerous pictures their food is first class. Everything that we ordered was delivered to the table perfectly. We were only in Roma for a few days and we ate there twice. Besides having a fine view of the Four Rivers Fountain while dining al fresco in Piazza Navona, Diane and I enjoyed really fine Italian cuisine and above average pizza here. A plate of Fettuccine Alfredo, with fresh Parmesan Cheese nicely adhering to the pasta through egg as a vehicle, was superb. And, an individual thin but cheesy Funghi Pizza was fine and satisfying. For dessert, Chocolate Gelato was really excellent: smooth, rich, and deep-flavored. Service by our waiter Giuseppe was spot on. When the check arrived, the only surprise was that Coca-Coca Light was priced at 6.60 Euros a can. That's slightly more than $15 for two Diet Cokes--tourist prices! We had dinner here and it was really good. Our server was Valentino, he was funny, pleasant, knowable out each dish. He was just such a pleasant young man. The next morning we went for brunch our server was Francesco an absolute joy, he has been there 33 years and has the best personality. There is a female server Valentina that is very friendly and the manager Angelo is an experience, a very nice man. Prices weren't bad, service top of the line. In the Piazza Novona it looks like a tourist restaurant but you can immediately tell the difference once you speak with the staff. They are all very friendly and speak English. We ordered spaghetti asking for garlic and spice to be added. Our take is Italian Food is too bland. Spaghetti also never comes with red sauce here in Italy. The owner brought our food to our table and brought oil with garlic and spice in a single jar. He told us it was his personal favorite way to eat his noodles. The spaghetti was AMAZING. The best thing we have eaten in Rome. The personal touch of the attention from the owner made it an even better experience. This restaurant got 4+ stars and lots of reviews, also outside tables are great settings. Location is five stars, so, we went the restaurant but food was so bad!! We ordered caprese as a starter, both mozzarella and tomato had no flavor. We ordered two different pasta dishes. Both were so mushy. Even Italian restaurants in the US do not serve such a overcooked baby food texture pasta. We are not sure if we can send back bad dishes as like America, so we didn't complain but Shame on you! If you want good pasta, stay away. This is only one bad experience of the food in Italy. read more
