    Colosseum
    Mark M.

Dyana was a superb wait staff member! I found this restaurant after doing a google search of "best restaurants" near the Roman Coliseum. It was spot on... We arrived and requested a table to view the coliseum for our meal. The staff was completely accommodating of our request. So, they gave us an internal seating space for drinks and alerted us as soon as an outdoor table became available. After getting a sidewalk table, we continued to have Dyana as our waitress. She proceeded to guide us through the menu and the choices she felt we might prefer (after hearing the ingredients we desired), and did I mention the VIEWS?!?!? I'm so incredibly happy with this booking. I feel fortunate to have eaten here and our meal was delicious!

Bugs in food. None the less, the service was amazing and the constant company I felt when I walked in really made me happy. The atmosphere of your restaurant wasn't too religious, wasn't too much of one color, it's very humble and nice. I would go again but the bug in the food was my cherry on top. I used to go here a lot but after this experience I will not anymore. I'm not saying you've lost a valuable customer, but it's safe to say I'm not coming here no more.

Pasta with red sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and basil sauce(?)

We found this restaurant after a quick search and it's in great viewing distance of the colosseum so we thought why not - and we're definitely glad we decided to stop inside! As we stepped inside we were pointed towards a table to sit at within a booth and overheard a conversation between servers about their pizzas being back in stock so my group figured we could share a couple of pizzas and courses between the four of us. We got 2 pizzas with prosciutto, Parmesan, and basil, as well as a pasta dish with tomato sauce mozzarella, and basil, and grilled fish. Service was prompt and the food came out quickly, although we were a bit surprised for being charged for water (another thing that's normal in the states but not as much in Europe). I really enjoyed the pasta dish with its fresh basil and flavorful red sauce - I felt like the ingredients were really brought out in this dish, and the green sauce that was drizzled on top really brought the dish together (unfortunately I'm not sure what it was...) dish. Unfortunately the fish was pretty overcooked and under seasoned for our taste, but the star of the show overall were definitely the pizzas! The bread was a bit thinner than what we're used to back in the states, and the cheese and sauce were spread out more thinly as well. That mixed with the prosciutto, Parmesan slices, and basil on top left me craving more after we had finished eating.

Our family just had dinner there. They charged service fee. One of the dishes was seafoods with ink noodle. It came with only 2 small shrimps and a few pieces of squids. We thought it's normal. But when we left, the same dish our next table ordered came with a lot of seafoods, at least 4 big shrimps and a lot of squids. Then we looked at the pictures online, we found pictures all had more seafoods. Maybe because we were the only Asian family tonight?

Views. Pretty much the highlight here but I will call out the excellent service too. Food was "ok" but not sure if the locals would agree. There is much better food elsewhere that's for sure. But the others don't come with the view. Not everyday you get to eat and drink comfortably in front of a wonder of the world.

Our server Anthony made our experience a great one! Such great vibe! My favorite thing to order on the menu was the prosciutto di parma very delicious!

Food looked appetizing but was pretty terrible. They took about 45 minutes to bring undercooked pasta. The service was also pretty terrible they don't check in on customers and took forever to take our order after being seated. This place is overrated in my opinion. The only thing I enjoyed was the music selection, that was good.

DO NOT COME UNLESS YOU WANT COLD AND UNSEASONED FOOD!! We came here because we had seen the reviews were good. I am literally writing this inside the restaurant. I ordered the clams and mussels as an appetizer and they were good. However, once our meals came, they were cold. I got the steak with potatoes. It had zero flavor. I had to add salt and pepper from the table to add flavor. My other two friends for pasta and it had no flavor as well. Please save your time and money and go elsewhere. It's over priced and not good. Spend your money where the food is worth it

Everyone advises to steer clear of restaurants immediately outside of tourist attractions (they overcharge! they take advantage) but this eatery just outside the Colosseum seemed like just the perfect place for a little lunch after learning all about gladiators, lions, and such. I went with the burger described as CHIANINA BURGER 200gr, TOMATOES, LETTUCE WITH HOMEMADE ARTISAN BREAD, Chianina being a particular breed of Italian steer, formerly used as a work animal, but now raised primarily for beef. It was accompanied by lightly fried potatoes, reminiscent of the souffle potatoes one finds in New Orleans, just as light, but not as puffy. They were delicious as was the burger. I have found burgers in Italy to be a "denser" grind than in the US, which makes for a far more satisfying "chew." 200 grams is just over 7 ounces, a weighty patty.

Pizza right by the Coliseum!!! Can't beat that ambiance! Got some margarita pizza, salad and wine. Good service, good weather, good food!!

Tiramisu is really yummy. They do it with no alcohol!!!

Legendary Roman Ice Cream…read more * * * La Romana has been around since 1947. That does not make it the oldest gelateria by a long shot. But 1947 puts La Romana in the "senior class" for sure. That means almost 50 years of driving thousands of people insane with pleasure from utterly amazing ice cream. That is a good way to spend 50 years. * * * Most Italian Gelato places are very consistent. If one flavor is good, they all are good. If one flavor is fake or artificial, they all are fake and artificial. That said - despite La Romana's full range, The establishment is known for one distinctive flavor that is very much their signature. Crema dal 1947. Crema dal 1947 is absolutely and utterly insane. It is an eggnog custard gelato subtly flavored with lemon zest. It is the most creamy dreamy lemon cloud dessert every made by any human being. Just to get an appropriate placement within the lemon family, I paired it with a plain lemon gelato. Rome has absolutely amazing lemons. Plain lemon gelato almost anywhere is die-and-go-to-heaven good. Putting eggnog custard creamy dream Crema dal 1947 With bracing in-your-face screaming lemon-lemon-lemon traditional gelato Was like pairing Margot Robbie as Barbie with Amy Winehouse singing her soul out. Both were absolutely perfect for what they are. I want to have that ice cream cone tonight, tomorrow, the day after that, the day after that and every other consecutive day for the next consecutive 50 years. When La Romana becomes 100 years old, I can think about changing flavors. But it is hard to argue with perfect perfection.

Everything tastes super fresh and creamy, and the flavors feel really authentic without being overly sweet or artificial. What I liked most is how consistent it is--whether you go for classics like pistachio or something more indulgent, it always tastes rich and high quality. It's the kind of spot where you can tell they really care about what they're making. The vibe is simple and focused on the gelato itself, not anything flashy, which honestly fits perfectly for a place like this. Always worth stopping by if you're in Rome and want proper gelato.

Frigidarium had a small storefront with room for a few guests at a time. Our timing was lucky, because we had arrived ahead of a big crowd. When I ordered and looked over my shoulder I saw that the line was snaking around the corner. Service was fast though, so people were in and out considerably quickly. I ordered the Frigidarium flavor and one that looked like a berry vanilla swirl with chocolate bits. I'm sure my mouth dropped when they asked if I wanted white chocolate, milk chocolate, or whipped cream at no additional charge. Based on the flavor palate I got white chocolate that becomes a hard shell when poured on. Loved everything about my gelato. I enjoyed both flavors with the white chocolate, and I got a bonus chocolate cookie from the Frigidarium flavor.

But I stopped in my tracks because I saw a line wrapped up 50+ people deep, all waiting just to get inside and order. Now it's day two in Rome and I still hadn't had any gelato, even though I've walked past what feels like a hundred shops. So what would a fat man from Alabama do? Turn right back around, of course--because nothing says "this is probably good" like a crowd stacked up like cordwood waiting for ice cream. I finally make it up to the counter and the young guy looks at me and says in English, "What do you want?" Well... I can't pronounce half of what I'm looking at, so I just show him a picture of his own menu I had snapped a minute earlier. He smiles, reads it out loud, and then asks, "What size?" At that point my brain is a mess, so I mumble "medium" and point at the cup sitting by the register. One problem down. Then I move into the next line--about a dozen people ahead of me--and when it's finally my turn again, I just point at my receipt like, "It's on there somewhere, I think." I can't read Italian, so I'm fully operating on faith at this point. The guy looks up and says, louder this time: "What flavor?" Flavor? That was not the question I was prepared for. So I point back at the picture again and say, "Whatever that is... I want that one." He scoops it up, loads it into the cup, and sends me on my way. Now comes the real test--taste it--but there are people everywhere, so I grab a quick photo first, because priorities. First bite? Hallelujah. That was the moment. That gelato hit and I just kept walking down the sidewalk like a man who somehow figured out how to survive ordering ice cream in Italy. Seriously, it was excellent. And if I get turned around again like today, I already know where I'm going back.
