I called SDG&E to light my pilot on my furnace where I found I didn't have a pilot light. The service tech from SDGE said he had been with the company 30 years. He seemed quite knowledgeable said It was ignited by a glow plug not a flame. He tested thermostat and circuit board on my Coleman furnace. He said I needed a new circuit board because it was fried. As I'm getting ready to sell my house, I want to make sure my furnace was working to pass inspection. I didn't know who to choose because in past HVAC services try upsell so much , I dreaded the phone call. I looked on yelp and saw all the reviews and several companies had good reviews. But the immediate impression I had from Alex at Airmaxx he responded within minutes of my Yelp contact. He offered to come out same day, but I had realtors coming to look at the house that day so we scheduled the following day. Jesus Lopez , my service tech. was timely and showed up as appointed time. within minutes he was able to establish the problem. There was loose connections on the circuit board and he was able to make the furnace work. However, about 15 years ago when I first bought my home, I had to replace the circuit board and also the next time the furnace quit operating was actually the thermostat. Jesus was no pressure or tried to upsell me, but I had a quote already from Alex before he came out as I was able to send him the model number of my furnace and a picture of the circuit board because I wanted my home to pass inspection for the buyer,. I chose to replace the circuit board as a precaution and have Jesus replace my thermostat with a newer battery free smart unit. In the past, I was always having to change the batteries on my thermostat and it was hard to get the lid off and not lose the little tiny screw that connected it so now my new thermostat is electronic and battery free, looks very modern and impressive on the wall. And it can be programmed for hot and cold automatically and what hours it should run. I would highly recommend this unit anyone that doesn't have one. Jesus was thorough, professional, respectful. And patient to discuss with me the repairs I would not hesitate if I ever shouldn't need any type of Hvac service to call on Airmaxx. read more

Dima, the boss, said it could take all day but they finished by 1:35! They arrived at 8:00 am on the dot. They had to troubleshoot and fixed a few issues from old unit and installed a new system. I recently changed my aging furnace for a dual system and did a thorough review of the relevant companies in San Diego. I got 5 reviews for the same project by companies offering basically the same options of a LOX gas furnace and an electric pump. 4 of the quotes were similar. Airmaxx was not the lowest, however I was attracted to their lengthy presence in the SD Market. When I asked if they could match one of the lower offers, rather than declining, they sent me a competitive counteroffer. HOWEVER when I looked at the details they had replaced the equipment they had originally quoted with less expensive options and DID NOT tell me. As these were highly technical proposals, the only way I was able to figure this out was by comparing the 9 digit serial number of the furnace and the heat pump with the previous offer. When I called them on this, the person delivering the quote first claimed ignorance, and then blamed his boss for changing the quote without telling him. I told him that this disqualified them for doing business with me. If they were slippery with this, what else would they do when they did the job?? read more

Requested annual maintenance on our air conditioning unit. Got an appointment within 2 days and Mike came to service our unit. Mike was very courteous, respectful and knowledgeable. He serviced the unit inside the house and said all was good; when he went onto the roof to inspect the AC unit that's when he discovered a problem. He took pictures of the existing problem, explained fully the problem and a solution to fixing the problem. He went to work on fixing the AC unit and within 30 to 45 minutes he explained that all would be good to go. The Airmaxx crew replaced a leaking evaporator coil and recovered as much refrigerant as they could; given it has been leaking for months. It was in a very tight spot in the ceiling crawlspace, requiring the crew to move the AC ducting to get to the unit. They also made changes to accommodate the condensate pipe or pump (can't recall). Spent over 4 hours making sure the job was done correctly. When they finished, they reviewed the entire job, including pictures of the work, and explained what was done. I am making sure to bring Airmaxx back for yearly PM's. I will gladly recommend them to neighbors and friends. read more

Gilbert is the man! Don't pull the trigger on anything until you talk to Airmaxx! I had a different company out for basic yearly maintenance. This other guy hooked up his device, showed me a couple numbers and told me both my units are on the way out, going to be 9k to do the condensers, here are your financing options etc etc I don't know anything about HVAC, but I knew I wanted a second opinion I could trust, especially after I got nothing but an invoice from that visit. (no notes or explanations, just a bunch of follow up emails asking me to buy the new condensers) I called Airmaxx because they are number one on yelp in SD, and that is for a reason! Gilbert came out for half the price of the other company, and talked me through every detail of what he was seeing with my 2 units. Ultimately, it turns out, both units are fine. He cleaned them thoroughly (something thing the other guy didn't do) gave me a bunch of great tips on how to maintain them better, gave me a couple of cheap parts to order off amazon and said 'yeah beyond that, these units aren't broken, don't fix them' Also, his invoice came with extensive notes, so I have all his observations and advice in writing. He also wrote some sharpie notes inside the cover on the unit itself, to help out the next tech who works on it. Top notch. Gilbert was zero BS. Do yourself a favor, skip all the other companies that try to sell you new parts on every visit, and have Airmaxx actually take care of your units. I got many quotes for my mini-split HVAC system before choosing Airmaxx. Most of the quotes were for top-end units such a Mitsubishi, which they said would need 2-4 days to install. But I somehow had the impression that those vendors were using the bling hardware to justify (or hide) higher labor pricing. I did some research to learn which other brands compared to Mitsubishi, then I looked at each brand to see what other models were available at what price points, and which factories were used. It turns out that most brands are made in a relatively small number of factories, where a given factory may be a contract manufacturer for multiple brands. I first started doing this kind of research for my power tools. When a contract manufacturer has excess production capacity, rather than idling a production line or doing a partial shutdown, they will keep the lines running, but instead make tools under their own house brand, to be sold online. It turns out, much of the mini-split HVAC industry operates the same way. When I asked the vendors for alternatives to Mitsubishi, they would typically recommend one of the other expensive top brands. Though some would recommend bargain basement brands that I wasn't sure I could trust, and others would recommend a traditional ducted system instead. Not Airmaxx. When I asked them what they would install in their own homes or workshop, they immediately answered with the Gree mini-split system, which is a solid mid-market factory brand. I enjoyed their up-front honesty. Their quote was the best overall. As I mentioned above, the other vendors said they would need 2 to 4 days to install my 5-head mini-split system. Airmaxx did it in just over 4 HOURS, arriving with a 5-person crew who did the work quickly and beautifully. We had a couple of unexpected surprises during the installation which caused extra work and needed a few more parts, which they covered without asking for a price adjustment. They bid the job, and they did the job! My system has been installed for 4 months, and continues to work well under all weather conditions. I'm very pleased. I highly recommend Airmaxx. I wish I had taken photos during the installation! The crew was very careful, yet they were always busy every minute. I like their work ethic! read more
