Great little spot outside the airport! Food Network should really take a stop here and showcase the sandwiches!

Stopped in for a quick bite since they're close to our new home. My wife & I split a patty melt and a basket of fries. The burger was very tasty, and the fries were hot and crispy. Our server was quick and on top of things. It's a laid back atmosphere with games, billiards, a dart board, and several Tv's. Nice menu with bar foods to entrees. They have advertised on their marquee that they have a big fish fry every Friday. We'll be checking that out soon! read more

Not a great experience. Went in for food and drinks. Ordered drinks and water. Waitress immediately apologized that water was bottles only and that it wasn't "her policy." OK, we get it. As she delivers the drinks, she took offense to our joking about the ice being no charge and let us know when people get "crappy" she makes sure to let them know it's not "her policy". She leaves and we basically never see her again. I waved, I spoke up and said "Miss" and "excuse me" as she walked by, but no response from her. I finally walked up to the bar to get our tab and the bartender asked if that was our waitress at the table. I walk back and my buddy Is requesting the tab. The waitress brings the tab and walks away. Almost immediately she is back wanting to know if we need change. Suddenly service is her top priority, as she must have sensed we were not happy and a tip was not happening. Luckily for her, as her lingering left us no option, we left a 36% tip ($4.00 tip for an $11.00 tab), as we just wanted out. The waitress made out tonight, however the owner of the establishment will not. We will not be back and this is our last visit to this Whest & Rye. read more

From the outside and name you wouldn't expect much. But this place is a must stop when your in the area. The "wheat and rye" sandwich is the most amazing thing I've ever put in my mouth. Its always busy which is great. Fresh good food. It's so reasonably priced is amazing there still in business. Keep it up wheat and rye. read more

I ordered their "FAMOUS Corn Beef!" Perfection! Beer is cheap too! I was amazed at the pricing for what you get! Low cost, massive portions! Damn, it was filling! Great service the place has a friendly bartender. I usually come afterwork for the happy hour specials and I've been for the Wednesday night margarita specials. The thing about this place is that they have huge portions I am surprised that they have not been on man versus food yet or a food channel show, the food is good I usually order the buffalo burger. It comes with a large Burger ground buffalo meat and a large set of fries the only thing is that the fries are not seasoned very well however the food is still great. The bathroom it's okay not the cleanest but the food specials, the large portions and the drink specials outweigh anything in this place I will make a return visit. They also do great carry out. And they have great wing specials if you are doing a Superbowl party. read more

You will come here (and come back here) because it is SO cheap. If I had any other food or drink option in the vicinity, I'd pick it. I have been many, many times spanning over 6 years. After my first time, the rest of my visits have been my peers decision. It is scummy and cheap. Although, I totally understand the appeal, the reason for my bad review (which you will realize for yourself) is of all my traveling, in all of the world, I have never ever been treated as poorly as I have by the manager, very recently. That will finalize my decision to never come here again and to tell absolutely everyone I know which unfortunately is a lot of their customers since their business tends to be in the travel industry. read more

This place is a dump! Came here for dinner with a somewhat large group. Every single meal was basically thrown onto our table by the waitress. They charged us $1.50 for water.... that was served to us in bottles that was clearly purchased at the local drugstore. I got the lake perch which was hardly edible...deep fried and tasted like rubber. Between the bikers at the bar and the terrible music blasting from the jukebox our dinner experience was atrocious. Worst sandwich I ever had! Oversized bread doesn't make a good sandwich. Turkey Rueben is thei specialty??? R U kidding me! Processed turkey, a spoonfull of slaw and a slice of American Cheese!!!! Inexpensive and awful. It was Thursday night BBQ night so on the recommendation of the server and against my better judgement I ordered the ribs. Absolutely horrible. The sauce tasted like ketchup, sugar, and Liquid Smoke. The coleslaw was good, the fries were good, the macaroni and cheese was really good, and the cornbread was terrible. I guess I should have listened more carefully... When I asked if the ribs were good she didn't say yes, she just said they were popular. My overall impression of the place was marginal food that is inexpensive. Great place to just drink some beer though, very good prices and even better on happy hour. I got the fish and chips dinner. It was good and the portions were immense. My only beef was that they charge for water. Instead of bringing the customary ice water when requested, the waitress told me that they only serve bottled water. This leads me to think that they want to make a buck off of something that should be free, or they have a water problem. In any case its annoying to have an extra 2$ added on to a bill for 2 bottles of water. Gimme a break. read more

We walked from the hotel we were staying at. It was a large amount of food for only $6. It's convenient, laid back and overall good. It's your typical bar spot. This Wheat and Rye is nothing like the one in Allen Park. The menu is mostly burgers and sandwiches. Yeah the sandwiches are large but.......It's a SANDWICH.......they probably didn't have Gordon Ramsey in back throwin' them together. The service sucked and when she finally got around to getting my bill she must have rounded my bill to the nearest dollar because she didn't even bring all of my change back. I have been a fan of this bar/restaurant for many years and it has become a regular stop for us tired and hungry travelers after leaving Metro airport. My husband's favorite is the corned beef sammy. It had so much meat on it, we ended up taking half of the sandwich home and that made two more sandwiches for lunch the next day! My pastrami was huge as well and I could only eat half. The quality of their meat is A++! Very lean. They also serve HUGE portions of fries as well. The only reason I gave it four out of 5 stars and not higher is because the food took forever to come out...like 15 -20 minutes. For sandwich orders, I think that's too much time. Still, be sure to make a stop here after your trip. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure. read more

Good food horrible service. The place was empty and our waitress was very rude when we first came in. Then she forgot my drink. I had to interrupt her conversation with her coworker to ask her if she was getting my drink. She only came back to our table twice after that, to bring our food and then for our bill. Not a place you would expect an ENORMOUS Corned beef sandwich. Stopped while in town for business. Had a beer and decided to grab a sandwich to bring back to hotel for dinner. WOW, I was shocked at how big and delicious this sandwich was. Over a pound of Corned beef, Swiss melted, on an onion roll. Dive bar with amazing Corned beef and pastrami. Stopped in here with my wife and some friends. This was our first time there, we usually go to the wheat and rye in Allen park. The food was ok and our server was good. The one thing that really bothered me is that they had NO water there they only offered bottled water and charged you for the water. Sorry but thats not acceptable to me, if the fountain machine where they get pop out of dispenses water they can also give you water too. This will not be a place I will be back at. I'm not cheap but if they think they are going to charge for water sorry not me. This to the owner: you might want to change your charging for water, when thousands of AMAZON workers soon find your place for lunch and find out you charge for water i'm sure you will be history, news travels fast. i found this place by accident many years ago , it was the best thing that ever happen to me. if u order the cornbeef sandwich make sure it comes to you nice and hot. make sure there are no cold spots in ur sandwich like i had. Terrible Experience!!!! Just flew back home from Alabama decided to stop in and buy the family dinner. My wife, my 2 daughters and I went into the restaurant and sat down at a table and placed a ToGo order which totaled $32.50. After waiting 10-12 minutes, I caught the waitress and asked her could she bring me a glass of water (I wanted to take pain meds). She informed me that there would be a $1.50 charge for bottled water and is that okay for her to place it on the bill? I replied, "Absolutely Not, why would you charge me for a glass of water?" She said, "Company policy." After she left I went up to the bar and asked the bartender for a glass of water, she too told me there would be a $1.50 charge. I showed her my bill that I was about to pay that $32.50 and I couldn't get a free glass of water?!!! She said, "It's not my policy it's the owners." I said, "So if I placed my order for here you would have brought the water for free! Since, I got it to go I you're gonna charge me?" and again "Let me get this straight, now I can go into the restroom and use the bathroom and flush 1.6 Gallons of water down the drain for free... but if I want a glass of water it's $1.50???" So I asked to speak to the owner. She said, "He's not here." I then asked her to cancel my order and made it known that the policy will prevent me or my family from returning. Whatever happened to common courtesy? We ended up going across the street and ordered that EXACT SAME THING FOR $22 and to top it off I got a TALL GLASS of water with 2 LEMON WEDGES....FOR FREE! This is where I go whenever I visit Detroit on a business trip. They are conveniently located near Metro Airport so you can plaster yourself with alcohol (Irish Car Bombs) then fly home the next day. They have an electronic dartboard, 2 pool tables, and a juke box. Their food portions are HUGE!. Their fish and chips and Reuben sandwiches are enormous. The crowd there are in the 30's but it has a very friendly atmosphere. Great place to get big portions of food and have a great time with friends and coworkers. read more

Food is great but service is horrible...with the exception of the main female bartender. The waitresses were no where to be found..when I asked the bartender where they were she didn't know either. A few guys from the bar said the waitresses were in back getting high. When the waitress was found 30 minutes later..she appeared high and never placed the order I gave her. The only reason I'll be back is cause my guy likes to play pool there...other than that..no way! read more
