I understand why people like the atmosphere at AJ Bomber's (although the last few times I've been there the wait staff has been on the verge of being rude while trying to rush people out) but I don't get why people like the burgers. After having eaten there a handful of times now (it's an insanely popular choice with people who are Food Wars fans and people from out-of-town really want to try it), I've decided that the burgers just aren't that good. The meat is flavorless. The buns are great, but the meat is bland and greasy. They use the blandest of cheeses (American or Colby) for the burgers which doesn't add much but gooey to the grease. I suspect that (despite what they claim) the patties are pre-fab frozen and reshaped to look handmade. But I can't image how fresh beef could possibly lack in flavor to the degree that these burgers do. If you are going to brag about having the "best" burgers in town, you should really ask people how they want them cooked. AJ Bomber's burgers tend to be overcooked (and yet still greasy). All in all, AJ Bomber's is disappointing. They certain don't deserve the title of Milwaukee's Best Burger (neither does Sobleman's but that's another story for another day). read more

YUM!! So delicious! My husband and I traveled to Milwaukee from Chicago for the Bucks vs. Lakers game, and we were not disappointed with our lunch/dinner of choice. Our bartender/server Jeisson was phenomenal, and unfortunately was moving back to his hometown later that week. Service was quick, food was great. The ambiance is cozy too. I felt bad at first for pushing peanut shells on the ground but that is what you are supposed to do! The restaurant closes Mon-Sat at 10pm so you won't ever have that too drunk late-night crowd. The food was also in grown-up proportions, I'm not sure of the weird mini-meal the other reviewer commented on. We ordered cheese curds, chocolate custard milk shake, and 2 burgers. It can be a little pricey since the toppings and the sides are a la carte, but it's worth it. We plan on coming back sometime in the summer when we are in town for a Brewers game. In town for business from Texas and wanted something a bit different than Mexican food. AJ Bombers has good reviews and it was MUCH cheaper than the restaurant at the hotel I am staying at. I did the lazy approach and ordered with Uber Eats so my review is based off a meal that wasn't hot. Yes I got lucky with a bike riding Uber Eats individual. Not used to that at all. So thought process was when in Wisconsin you have cheese curds?! They were pretty good. I think they would've been crispier and better at the restaurant so I say they were delicious. They had a chipotle ranch that I enjoyed as well. The Milwaukee burger wasn't my favorite. Just lack of flavor I suppose. I prefer bold flavors so it could be just me. The tator tots needed a bit more salt or flavor. The skin on fries were delicious but a tad bit too much salt. Don't laugh - I promise I'm not super hard to please! This is our go-to burger joint. Service is always friendly, quick. Food is consistent. The peanut thing is a little gross (ton of peanut shells on the floor) . I wear crappy shoes expecting this. They also do a nice job with delivery. I wanted some kind of fry and they called me back to let me know the fry doesn't travel well so I should consider something else. It feels almost wrong in saying this, but I think I've found the best burger that I've ever had. I know, it's as shocking to you as it was to me, but it's true. The meat was perfectly cooked, and went along perfectly with the slightly grilled and steamed, but still a little raw onions. The bun was large and doughy, a perfect match. And the cheese - oooooooooh the cheese. Wisconsin knows what's up with cheese, and the cheese on this burger is perfection. Last but not least comes the salty deliciousness of the bacon, bringing it all together. As if anything could get better at a place that now houses the best burger I've ever had, it did. I had nearly the perfect dining experience at AJ Bombers. Along with the burger, came our poutine. Potato-cheese curd-gravy heaven. I've been here a few times and have never had a bad experience. The burgers are some of the best I've had in Milwaukee. My favorite is the barrie burger. Peanut butter and bacon. It sounds gross to some but is amazing. Sides of onion strings and fries were good as well. And the beer selection is decent. If you come on a Tuesday try the Totchos. The Bomber burger with the fried mushroom is honestly one of the burgers I've ever had. If you like mushrooms and cheese, please get this. We stopped in on a Thursday night (when the Packers were playing) and were seated right away. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls, which met expectations. They were pretty good, but not amazing. All of the food came out extremely fast. That can sometimes indicate poor quality. On the contrary, the Bomber burger was incredible. The thin patty with the thick fried portobello was a great combo. I have ordered takeout from AJs a couple of times and have been pleased with the quality of the food, however it typically arrives lukewarm and the cheese curds are a shockingly small order for the price (I have uploaded a photo for reference). Such a great place to grab a burger and a beer.Fun/casual atmosphere- good for both adults and children. I absolutely love their peanut bombs- what a fun idea! Burgers are really good, huge and messy, just the way I like them. Their sweet potato chips are addicting- definitely choose these over the fries. If you go early make sure to try their bloody mary, complete with a mini burger wrapped in cheese and bacon- yum. The buffalo chicken egg rolls are also delicious. The one place they are not 5 stars yet is service. Even though the place is casual- I think the service is a little too casual. Last time I was there the bartenders were flipping each other off- didn't really bother me so much, but there were kids there as well. This place is fun and has a inviting atmosphere. It's not your typical restaurant. They aren't try to be like anyone else. The best way I can describe this place is that it has an "attitude". The outside of the establishment has these 2 large beach style bench chairs. Once you walk inside, you are engulfed in a dimly lit atmosphere with graffiti covering the walls done by fellow former patrons. Our hostess walked up with a warm and enthusiastic attitude and asked for how many of us. At the time there was only just the 3 of us, but we had asked for seating for 8 people. He left and told us to wait a few minutes so he can set us up for something. He came back with an amazed expression on his face. He said.. "The 3 years that I've worked here, we've never had the exact number of seats ready on the spot". I guess we were lucky. As for the menu, it had an interesting twist. It was just a laminated sheet with boxes. The waiter gives you dry erase markers and you check mark the boxes of things you want on the menu. Majority of their menu comprised of hamburgers, often different than you'll find else where. I had their famous hamburger that they offer, the Milwaukee Burger. Like Texas Roadhouse or any other similar restaurant, they offer free peanuts, to which you can eat and discard on the floor. The wait was a bit long because of our group, which was about 25-30 minutes. Our drinks came out timely which they only seemed to offer bottled only. Once we got our food, they were well put together. To describe the taste of the Milwaukee Burger... it tasted like eating buttered popcorn. Sounds weird, but that was the best way I could compared it to flavor wise. The hamburger patty itself was high quality. Juicy and tender and not at all greasy. I had their sweet potato chips with it, and well honestly I didn't care for them too much. They weren't hot and fresh, but just room temp. So I'm guessing they didn't either time it correctly with the burger or they're pre-made. Overall, I had a great time there, and the people who work there seem very cool. Just okay at best. I'm surprised people rave about this place. I don't eat red meat and I had the chicken sandwich, which was honestly a little dry. My friend had a burger and he didn't think it was anything special. This place was recommended by someone in a mom's FB group. I read in another review that it was kid friendly. I honestly did not see why. From the outside it looked like a dive bar and when we entered it reminded me of a college bar with tagging all over the place. Allowing people to mark the walls, tables, and seats is a little odd to me. It says, "We dont clean as well as we should but now we have a reason why." They only had two booths, one low chair seating for six, maybe about six high top tables and of course the bar. So obviously Im not impressed by the look of the place but what about the food? The waitress came back around with the water in just few minutes see if we wanted any appetizers. We ordered the fried pickles. They took a little longer than you would expect for an appetizer to come out. The fried pickles are skinny long cut pickles so when you bite into them you Gotta make sure that pickle doesn't slide out and slap you in the chin you've got to really bite through them. Although it was the hottest item we received that night, couldn't say the same about burgers. The Fries were room temperature, the buns barely toasted and the burger was room temp as well. More bun than burger on this pretty bland meat. Honestly I've had better burger at McDonald's or Culver's. Service was fine she came around and checked on us one through twice. It's difficult to not like a place that gives you a bacon wrapped burger strip as garnish for your bloody mary. As if that wasn't enough, they also garnish it with green olives and a slice of pickle. Of course, the actual bloody mary is delicious. It has a perfect blend of spice that is just enough to give you a warm tickle in your throat. I really liked the fact that it did not have that tinny V8 canned taste to it. Probably the best bloody mary that I have had - extremely well balanced. It also comes with a beer chaser, but I am a bit confused as to why that would be needed. The burgers here are not as much gourmet as they are unique. The meat patties are no frill and retain a nice shapelessness that gives it that homemade touch. They are relatively thin, making it quite easy to stuff your face with - not one of those burgers that will give you lockjaw trying to take a bite. I tried the Milwaukee burger the first time around - 1/4 lb patty, double colby cheese, double bacon, and grilled onions. Surprisingly straightforward and surprisingly good. Unfortunately, I ate it so fast, that it did not spend enough time on my palate for me to be able to dissect its flavor profile too much. Fries poutin were so-so and had a hard time keeping up with the burger. The pretzels with spicy mustard sauce sounded delicious on the menu, but fell a bit short. The dough for the pretzel is a bit more light and airy than your traditional soft pretzel, which could be a good thing, but under prolonged heat, it ended up being very dry.
