I called this company on Thanksgiving for a clogged kitchen drain. They scheduled me for the next day. I had a four-hour window, two hours into the window I received a call that all of their technicians were extremely busy and that I would have to reschedule. I rescheduled for the next day which was Saturday, again I got a call that no technicians were available. Another reschedule was done for the next day which was Sunday and again I was told the same thing. This company is unreliable and I would never recommend them to anyone, nor would I ever call them for service again. DO NOT USE A.J. PERRI. I personally think that they googled my name and address and did not want to come into my area. But it was all good my husband and I rented an auger or electric snake from Home Depot and did the job ourselves and it only cost about $35.00 to rent the equipment. Yesterday afternoon I called AJ Perri because I couldn't get my furnace to click on. I got an immediate callback and was told a service tech would be there between 4pm and 8pm and someone would call 30 minutes before to let me know he was on his way. At 6pm I called to get an estimate of when someone would be here. The person said they'd call the office and someone would call me back. At 7pm I was told that a technician was on his way. At 8pm I was told someone would call me back because the technician was on his way. At 10pm I called to cancel the appointment and was told someone would get back to me today to apologize. I'm not holding my breath and I will also NEVER call these people again. read more

Called them for a furnace that wasn't working. Quoted me for a new control board -$1300, tried to scare me saying that we may need to replace blower, gas line, etc each with its own price tag over $1300 to $1900. Of course also said I should just replace the furnace and AC. Called someone else and they replaced the control board for $400. AJ Perri has predatory practices and also charges 3 times most other places. Not to mention the control board cost $200 and takes 30 mins to replace, so they were going to charge $2000 an hour for the work. They should be sued for these practices and prices. No different than any other predatory pricing, such as for medicine. read more

I highly recommend going with any other company. Stay away from AJ Perri. In September, just two months ago, I had my HVAC unit replaced by AJ Perri. A week later I had water leaking from the unit. A technician was sent out and he replaced a faulty part. No problem, I understand things happen. However, this past week I needed to turn the heat on for the first time and this company showed their true colors. I reported the issue with the heat not working on a Wednesday night. They sent a technician around 8 pm on Thursday night. This was okay because I had asked for a later response time; I could not take off work a third time for this system. The technician 'restarted' the unit. He turned it off for thirty seconds and then turned it back on which enabled the burner to work. The unit worked until Friday afternoon when I went to turn up the heat and nothing happened. I called and was told someone would be out on Saturday between 9 and 1. I was not happy with this since I have little children but I accepted. On Saturday I called at 2pm to ensure someone was coming. I was told that my technician would be late as they needed to have a warranty supervisor available on the phone to troubleshoot the problem. The technician arrived at 5 and began to work. Not once was he on the phone with a supervisor. He 'fixed' the problem by disconnecting an air intake pipe​​. He ensured my house was safe and that the supervisor would be out on Monday morning. I questioned him and he claimed that in his notes I threatened to sue, so that would get a response. Well it is now Friday night and I am not threatening. I have reached out to a lawyer. I have called every day since Monday, multiple times a day, and have been given the runaround. I have been told about ten times that my issue has been labeled top priority and sent to the quality control department. I have not heard back from anyone and have stray pipes hanging from my rafters. I truly did not know a company could do business like this. Stay away. Check out Edison heating and cooling. Air conditioner broke on evening of 7/3. Morning of 7/4 we called AJP and they said someone would be out between 12-4pm. 4:15pm no one had shown or called so we called. Dispatcher said he was the only one there that day and he couldn't call to tell us the tech would not be available until 7/6!!! Scheduled for 7/6 8am-Noon, tech came out and determined we needed a new unit. Scheduled salesman at Noon that day. I got a text at 10:38am the salesman was on the way. I called to confirm NOON was the time, she said yes. At 11:15am he showed up! Sold us a unit and indicated there was a $1,000 rebate. Unit was scheduled for install on 7/8 between 8am-Noon and we were told we would get a call 30 min ahead. At 7:29am the tech showed up - NO CALL. I got no paperwork about the rebate so I waited a bit to see if it would be mailed to us. 7/19 called to find out about rebate....customer service rep had no info on it so she said give her 24-48 hours to look into it....surprise, never got a call back so on 7/27 I called again and was told there was a note in the account for a $300 rebate. I explained the conversation with the tech about the $1000 and she said someone would call me back. At 4pm that day the Sales Manager called and already long story short said he could only give me $500, but he would call me back in 30 minutes to confirm....guess who never called back! When we bought our house 12 years ago they installed the entire HVAC system so we stuck with them for the new AC......and this is how we get treated? So incredibly frustrating and disappointing. If I can give them a negative score I would. Our kitchen drain was clogged and we knew it needed to be snaked because we had it done before. Called on Sunday and they put us on Monday's schedule between noon and 6 pm. My husband called around noon to confirm and they indicated they'll be there around 4pm. It was 4:45 pm and no one showed up. Called customer service and they said they called the house phone to reschedule. My husband said no one called because the phone never rang and no message. They said called cell- again no calls or messages so someone isn't doing their job. We asked for an early appointment since Perri messed up. Best they could do is to put us on Tuesday between noon and 6 pm Asked to speak to a manager but they went home for the day. Unfortunately this isn't the first time we're experiencing this with A.J. Perri. We've been a longtime customer with a service contract for air/ heating with them and had scheduled appointments way in advance- only for them to cancel and then schedule after the season. Has an issue with my furnace, and I called A.J. Perri to come look. The first tech came to look and diagnose my issue and found a faulty heat exchanger. After talking to him he explained the most cost effective way to fix the problem was to replace the part and that would run $3,500, and that a second crew would be by to take measurements. The second crew came by later in the day and revolved the quote around replacing the entire furnace and quoted me for $12,000. Obviously there is a big difference in the two prices. When I asked about simply replacing the individual part the employee didn't answer any of my questions, but simply explained how easy it is to apply for financing. When I told him his previous co worker already explained its possible to fix the part only he stared at me and continued on to his plan. I don't quite see how my financial commitment especially at their high interest rates is something I should be pressured into especially during this vulnerable time. Also being my furnace was only installed 8 years ago an overhaul wasn't something I was interested in. So my next step was to have a second opinion. Wouldn't you know it the next company came in an and diagnosed the same problem. Only they took the time a without me asking checked the warranty on my unit, and found that the part was in fact still covered. They quoted the price to fix the part at $2,200, and if I chose a new furnace at $5,800. How on earth did this second company not only leave the option in my hands whether I wanted to fix the furnace or replace it THEY WERE 1/2 the price. What makes A.J. Perri so much more expensive. This company is taking advantage of people while they are going through tough times. Nothing like kicking a family while they're down. I call for a full report and investigation on not only their practices, but also price gouging. These guys come to your house, never tell you what the problem was or how they were going to fix it. Someone with a tablet that is blank tells you to sign this, sign that. They never tell you why they can't just fix the old boiler. Soon you find out that they expect you to pay over $17,000 and that's with their senior discount. I went down to the basement and asked the two guys how they were doing, but they just laughed and never told me any information that I wanted to know. I have since contacted the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs in Newark NJ. That is who you register your complaint with. I hope that they can resolve this situation within the next few weeks. By the way, I called A.J. Perri about 6 times since they came here to ask them to give me a detailed breakdown of the parts and labor that added up to $17, 330 but they never gave me that information. Company sucks. Don't call these guys. Rip off. First visit tech said AC was frozen it needed a day to thaw. Charged me $150 to come out for 5 mins and said call the office to reschedule tomorrow. I was told No charge will be taken for 2nd visit. I Called. Rescheduled . Another guy came 2 days later said refrigerant level was okay, filter was dirty but not too dirty and had me change the filter in the attic while he cleaned out his van leaving garbage, boxes and recycling on the side of my house. Then he hosed down the condenser and said refrigerant was low after saying it was okay at the beginning of the assessment. Charged me another $160 for a pound of refrigerant and left. Do NOT trust their evaluation - get a second opinion!!!! I paid $105 a tech come out to evaluate my AC which had stopped working the night before. He examined the condenser and air handler, and said, "your whole condenser is shot...it's crumbling from the inside, you need a whole new unit." They sent another representative to my house to go over pricing of a new unit. He also said, "you know your condenser is shot, right?" He quoted us $15,000 to completely replace the entire AC unit; condenser and air handler. But of course if I booked with them right then and there the price would go down to just under $12k. I said I wanted a second opinion. Today, AirOne came to evaluate my AC system. He found my 55/5 capacitor was defective, and once replaced, the condenser worked fine. It cost $150, literally ONE HUNDRED TIMES LESS THAN WHAT A.J. PERRI SUGGESTED. Even if this was a temporary fix, it gives me time to shop around and save up money for a new unit. I made the grave mistake of hiring AJ Perri to repair my air conditioner. They came out did the repair (the repairman could barely speak English, not even the company person on the phone could understand him). The AC worked for UNDER 24 hours!! All for the low price of $1100! I called them back they sent a repairman who did speak English this time who said it was a waste of $1100 and asked if the repairman told us that- he didn't!! The company said they will give us a credit if we hire them for a brand new system. I got their pricing and including discounts, and the $1100 I thew away their price was the same for a lower quality system. There was leak in my laundry room. A. J perry schedule the appointment at 3PM. After several call they came at 9PM that too with some hot discussion. Without checking anything he told me to change the water heater. I told him but water is coming from dry wall and not from water heater. then he opened the drywall and found the leak. These guys just want you to charge in any sense. Then he was asking me for service call fee which was $120, i told him this call is scheduled by my pipeline insurance company they will pay you whaterver your amount will be. then he was asking for $65 as a mandatory fee.. I was like whats going on and asked him to call his supervisor for further discussion. After discussion with his supervisor he gone. Had an appointment today for a clogged drain. I had used them a few years ago for the same issue and they were great last time so of course I called them again. When I called for the appointment they gave me a 2 hour time frame and they quoted me their current special price of 99.00 plus tax to unclog the drain. They called about 30 minutes before arriving to let me know their eta and they arrived right on time. 2 very nice gentleman went to the basement and snaked out the main drain line and everything was back in working order within a very short time. I had AJ Perri come out for their advertised AC tune up and was told I needed to add Freon and replace the TXV valve; the $2k cost of the repair was at a point that it would make more sense to install a new system since my ac is nearing the end of its average life. The $50 tune-up was now turning into a $16k replacement. I hired another contractor for a second opinion - I needed no Freon and I do not even have a TXV. My system may be old, but it is working perfectly. They diagnosed that I needed to replace a part that my system does not even have and that I needed Freon when I don't. I set up an appointment for a quote for a new central air unit for my second floor. I was told that a person would come between 12 and 4 on a Monday and that I would receive a call when the person was on their way. I rearranged my work schedule to be home for this appointment. I stepped away from my phone for two minutes and missed a call. The person did NOT leave a voicemail and never called a second time. I saw the missed call but was not going to call a random number back considering all of the spam calls that I get. Obviously, if a voicemail was left, I would have called back. I was called at 2:00 pm by someone at the office indicating that someone had been trying to get in touch with me and that because I didn't pick up my phone, they decided not to come to my house and that I would need to reschedule the appointment. Calling ONE time and not leaving a voicemail in NO way equates to actually trying to confirm that I was at home. I received no explanation for why the individual failed to do their job and was not even given an apology for being inconvenienced. Horrible customer service. ZERO STARS. read more

Called because I had a $25 discount card and a simple need. I would give them 5 stars for this experience. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was courteous and professional, the price was surprisingly very reasonable, and when the work was actually done the technician Keith was pleasant, skilled, and warned me of additional work I would probably need and the cost of it before he started (I ended up not needing it). Now the work is guaranteed for a year. I was also happy that Keith added in a 10% first responder discount for me. However, 3 stars. One, I was not told this discount was a thing by ANYONE but him (was only asked about senior citizen and military over the phone), and only got it because I was luckily wearing an EMS T-shirt. Second: When setting up the appointment, I told them I would not be home until 4pm so we set up a 4-6pm time slot. The day of, I got a phone call at 9:40am asking if I wanted them to come between 12-2pm instead. I told them I was not going to be home and they said they would keep my 4-6pm. At 1:07 and 1:20pm (I missed the first call), I got two more calls asking again if they could come out now. Again I told them I wasn't home and they said no problem. At 2:48pm, I got a fourth phone call that a technician would be at my house between 3:45 and 4pm. AGAIN, I said I would not be home. My boyfriend was, but he is not the homeowner and would not sign the required waiver. So the poor guy, who actually showed up at 3:35pm, waited in the truck for almost 40 minutes til I got home. I was pretty furious with this. If I hadn't had a doctor's appointment it would've been fine, but when I warn you several times, it's ridiculous. No wonder their prices are so high! They're paying phone operators with lack of communication and paid the technician who worked on my house extra to sit there for an hour. Overall, satisfied with the work, not with the company overall. Would've been great if my time constraint was respected after the first phone call and if the first responder discount had been offered. read more

Called on 9/5/23 for AC Service (Unit blowing just not cold). They did come same day. I was told there was a$129 diagnostic fee (it would be waved if we did the repair). Tech came out and gave me a laundry list ($3100 in repairs) of things that the Unit needed, non of which would solve the reason for my call, the cooling problem. Finally goes outside & determines that the capacitor ($351 repair) needs to be replaced & that would solve the cooling issue. However he also said the Diagnostic fee was required as well. Even though I have agreed to do the repair of the capacitor, when I questioned him, he said he had to charge me the fee b/c I didn't follow his $3100 in recommendations.... I paid the $511 in total bc it was 100 degrees. I called 9/7 and a rep agreed with me that the fee should have been waived since we did the repair. They took a message for Quality Assurance, no call back. Called again 9/8 and again 9/11, still no call back... After speaking with friends they have had issues with them as well. Was transferred to scheduling. After approximately 20 minutes on hold, I hung up and used the online chat. The rep gave me a phone number to call. Phone number was out of service!! Finally found a phone number which worked, asked the rep when someone would arrive. Response "No one is coming today because we didn't have anyone available". Why didn't they call to inform me no one was available? So I wasted 4 hours waiting for a technician and they don't have the courtesy to call and explain. That says a lot about the company and the service they provide. I used this company years ago for major plumbing work and they were great. What happened to them? AJ Perri will not fix it, they won't hire electrician, Even though they installed it now they're telling me they don't have electricians. I would never recommend them in 1 million years.
