My mom got these guys to install her system, so when we had the problem we called the number on the sticker. They have horrible, expensive service. They have been out 3 times (Jan, March and May) to fix the oil heater. In January they charged us $400 to replace a circuit board that I later found on Amazon for $29, and that board continues to fail. Between the iffy technical knowledge of the service people and the outrageous prices (and their demanding of cash after each service call), and the lackadaisical scheduling (if you do not pick up the phone when they call, they do not come over) I would never intentionally call them for any work. read more

I hired AJ Perri to do an annual oil furnace cleaning and tune up. I left the check for the exact amount with my wife who was home that day. The technician was not friendly at all and he went downstairs to do the service. He said the nozzle was corroded and wanted a check for $143 for replacing it when that should have been part of the annual service. I told the wife to have him call me and he wouldn't until I called the office from my work and reamed them out. To top it all off his final recommendation was I need a new furnace when mine works just fine and has been maintained. He put that recommendation on the paperwork so that they don't have to warranty the cleaning because I didn't follow their recommendation. He finally told me he would erase the extra charge if I allow a comfort specialist to come give a free consult. Im waiting for this guy to show up Monday so I can see what BS they feed me this time. When my wife and I first moved into our home, we hired A.J. Perri to clean the furnace so we could start fresh. The worst part is that 9 months later, our furnace stopped working and the PSE&G worker who came out to fix it said that it had stopped working because there is one part of our furnace that is particularly hard to clean, and it was clear to him that that part of our furnace had not been cleaned in years. When I told him that we had had it professionally cleaned just 9 months ago, he said that the worker had not cleaned that part, and that was why the furnace was not working. How this company has an A rating with the Better Business Bureau I'll never understand. We almost fell for a scam. On November 8, 3013, we scheduled service with AJ Perri of our gas furnace. We have never experienced any problem with our heating system, this was just routine maintenance. To make a long story short, the technician informed us that as a result of the 'combustion analysis', our furnace was unsafe to operate, it had rising CO2 levels(which were, by the way, being emitted through the flu) and he was obligated to shut it down, which he did. He recommend we have a new furnace installed and immediately called his office to have an estimator come out to provide out with an estimate for a new furnace. We were a little suspicious so we called another contractor, as well as PSE&G, who both concluded that there was nothing wrong with the furnace and it was absolutely safe. Our CO2 levels in the house were at zero. Needless to say, we will NEVER deal with them again, and if we see their truck in our neighborhood we will not hesitate to run to our neighbor and warn them. They caused us a great deal of concern thinking that our furnace was unsafe (and actually turned it off!) and could could have caused us a great deal of money to replace a furnace which was in perfect operating condition. We discovered that our central air unit was not "blowing" cool. We have a 4 ton Goodman unit that is approximately 5-6 years old. The immediate thought was that it needed Freon. We had recently received a mailer from A.J. Perri and thought it best to call them. Thought process was a very big company, reputable, many, many years in business, etc. etc. We phoned them. They went on to say all their techs are vetted (i.e. drug tested, background checks, etc.) and they could make a "service call" today (same day). The tech arrived, spent approximately 35 minutes (checking my brand new furnace, which of course was not the issue), then proceeded outside. He went on to state that there was a major leak in the system, which would cost $2562 to diagnose (without repairs) - I do have this in writing. He said it would be most cost effective to simply replace the unit. He called and very quickly had us set up with an in home consultation with sales (who I understand wanted to give a lengthy 1 + hour presentation to sell us a new unit). Of course, they offer financing! They also charged $95 and change for the visit (+$5 tip). They left with my check. That being said, while I was at the office, I recalled using a very reliable HVAC company last summer through my office. The company I am referencing is Ol' King Cool. I called "James" who I had dealt with many times last summer and told him A.J. Perri's recommendation. He urged me not to do anything until he had a look at the system. He accommodated us same day. Upon his arrival, he immediately went to the outside central air unit. He began his diagnosis. The first thing he noticed was that the cap was missing off of the Schrader valve. We questioned whether or not this would cause a freon leak, and he stated "absolutely it would". Now, to back track, when we asked the technician from A.J. Perri the same question - his answer was "absolutely not" . So, the question is "who is telling the truth"?? Let me answer frankly --positively, the owner (who is also a technician) of Ol' King Cool was correct. He spent approximately 2 hours at my home, vacuumed the system to check for leaks in the copper piping, he did not find any leaks. He proceeded to refill the unit with freon (for a fraction of the cost that A.J. Perri would have charged). We visibly saw the freon spilling out of the Schrader valve which had no cap on it. Ol' King Cool replaced the cap with brass fittings - refilled my unit and problem has been resolved. The total charge from Ol' King Cool for labor and repairs was $674. Bottom Line: I stopped payment on my check to A.J. Perri. It is very apparent to me that A.J. Perri was not only attempting to take advantage (if I went forward with them for a "diagnosis" - which was $2565), but I truly believe they were pushing for me to replace a unit that did not need replacing. I am positive a representative would have shown up, presented financing options for an overpriced unit with bells and whistles. I will be sharing this information with the better business bureau, but I feel a responsibility to share my story with my neighbors. Please heed the warning and stay away from this company. Although I highly recommend Ol' King Cool - genuinely one of the most honest companies I have come across, please get other estimates, and second opinions. I would give "NO" stars if possible. read more

All I'm saying is if you hire them, make sure you follow them everywhere they go in your house. They went to my mothers house for a kitchen sink issue. When he was writing up the bill, out of nowhere, he asks how old her water heater is, and she was not sure. With that, he runs down to her basement to check any comes back up and tells her it's eight years old. Coincidentally, the very next day, she goes down to the basement and has a flood. She has never had a problem with it in the eight years. He comes back and says he needs to replace it. And wow, what another coincidence when he has the exact one she needs right on his truck. So she gets them to replace it, and the very next day she goes down the basement and smells gas. That guy loosened her pipes and risked her life filling her house with gas. She reported them, and now the town is after her for the money for the permit that he never obtained. We had the same guy come to our house. In fact we recommended him to my mother. So it made me think back to a time we had a leak in our water heater and called them. He came and told us we needed some $700 piece because apparently our water heater couldn't handle back to back showers and that's why it's from the leak. We told him no way, just fix the leak for now and will get a second opinion. We never got the second opinion and it never ever happens again. He was trying to take us for $700 on a three-year-old water heater. I love how they will come night or day and they're pretty quick, but I will never use them again. Sorry. read more

I had an appointment this summer for a "check up" on my central air and furnace Both were working perfectly and I just wanted to make sure filters were clean etc. the technician opened my furnace and all of a sudden I heard a banging noise. I asked him what that was and he said he had no idea. I said it wasn't happening 5 minutes ago and asked him to change the filter and leave. As he was leaving he gave me some coupons and said I think you'll be needing these pretty soon. Low and behold 3 weeks later my central air went off. I called someone else to take a look at the furnace and he said there were wires that looked like they had been disconnected and they wrapped around my motor and burnt it out. I can't prove anything. Total rip-off! They came and gave me an estimate to replace a circulation pump. They tried to sell me one for $1500 - I had another firm install one , exactly the same one ,for $800 . What's worse is they claimed a bunch of other stuff was wrong and suggested I get a new boiler, from them of course. It is a small leak, however, after spending that amount of money, and supposedly hiring "the best", clearly their service is "joe schmo". AJ Perri took over a company that installed my generator and the maintenance contract. So, I called them when I needed AC service. I was given a time window of 9:30-11:30. The tech came at 2 PM, with the ususal excuse of the previous appointment going over the estimated time. What is the point of giving a window if you cannot make it? After looking at the problem he criticized the previous installation and recommended a replacement. I made the appointment by calling the office for a Wednesday between 9-11. When the rep did not show up by 9:15, I called and they claimed that the appointment was for the following Saturday at 12 PM. I could not have made it for Saturday as we are busy that day. So, this was the second mistake by theeir scheduling. department. I have made another appointment for the estimate since I do need the AC and a second estimate in addition to the one I have from my current service company. Let's see how it goes in the future. The sewer main in our house kept blocking up, and we knew we needed help. A.J. Perri came to the house and quickly ran the video camera through the pipe. The camera hit a mass of roots and the guy said, "You're out of service, you can't even flush a toilet, your pipe is broken, you need a new pipe." He said the price for installing a new pipe was $7300 but he'd give me a 10% discount if I agreed to have the work done the next day. I said no and a few days later I had a second opinion from another company. They also ran the video camera into the line and found the same roots that A.J. Perri had. They concluded that what was needed was to cut the roots out of the line. After cutting out the roots, they found that the pipe was completely intact all the way out to the main sewer line in the street. This work cost me $900. The idea that my sewer pipe was broken was a complete lie, designed to make me choose an expensive option that would have been great for A.J. Perri's bottom line but bad for me the homeowner. One thing that's weird is that A.J. Perri has an A+ rating through the Better Business Bureau, and they mention that in their sales pitch. read more

My experience with AJ. Perri...I turned my aging furnace on for the first time this season to hear it making a strange noise. I have a gas furnace so didn't want to play around with anything so we turned it off and decided to have someone come look at it. Although. I heard stories about AJ Perri being expensive, they were available to come out immediately so we set up the appointment. The technician scared us to death by telling us that the level of carbon monoxide coming out of the unit was 3000 and the acceptable range is 100-400. He said he had a $2,000 meter which read the number so it was accurate and that it was a good thing it was making that noise otherwise we wouldn't have known anything was wrong and could have died. With that said he set up an appointment with a salesman to come. The salesman came at 7pm that night ready for the sales pitch armed with booties to cover his shoes and binders filled with horror stories of other company's incompetent work. He referenced Michael J Fox and how there is now proof that carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause of his Parkinson's disease. After measuring al the rooms in the house and the big sales pitch! 2 hours later he gave us the exorbitant price and of course it would go up as soon as he walked out our door. We told him we would Need to get another estimate. The next day we had two other companies come with the same meter. They each said there was no carbon monoxide coming from the unit and as soon as each of them heard AJ Perri they said they hear the so many stories from their customers about their scam. Turns out I just needed to replace a small valve which cost under $100 as apposed to close to $7,000 for a new unit. Because they put fear in me we went to Home Depot to buy brand new carbon monoxide detectors in the house. Came to me when I needed a water heater ASAP. Only plumber to have a water heater on the truck. Staff was extra polite and gave me many options for my water heater. The only problem I had is they are extremely over priced and try to sell you extra warranties that are not necessary. I also asked for a quote to replace a sink in my bathroom and the price was quintuple the price of a local plumber. This is a local plumber turned corporate. Called AJ Perri to clean a clogged drain. Called Saturday night 7pm no return call until later AM the day after which in the grand scheme of things was no issue - not an emergency. Thankfully someone from office followed up and informed me the person will be coming out and perform drain clean at price of approx. $100. Mr M. came, did a good job and finished worked asked for. He gets 4-5 stars. But then I made the mistake of asking what they'd charge for redoing the plastic (PVC) plumbing under kitchen sink and a new hot water heater. After going out to truck for 20 minutes, he come back with a quote of $935. The PVC pieces would have been maybe $15 at full retail prices, so $905 for 30-60 min of work? AJP then went into quoting the replacement of a hot water heater but I won't tell you the pricing mentioned. I live in an adult community where the average age is 80 and (high pressure high prices) can easily be take advantage. AJP, good guy that came, but bad business model for consumers if they have to ask for those kind of prices. Can't recommend them, sorry, just don't trust them and at the end of the day. Offer great service at a fair price to get people bragging about you instead of all of these horrible ratings and write-ups. Please be advised that a representative form AJ Perri Inc came out to see my parents for an air conditioning problem. Their home is six years old and instead of diagnosing the problem, they sat down with my mom and dad and told them they needed a brand new unit which cost over $15,000. My dad is in a wheel chair and suffers from dementia and my mother has althseimers. When the nurse that was over the house saw my dad give the man a $5000.00 check, she proceeded to call me. This deal was done on Sunday, 9/7/14, contract issued and signed by my dad. The work was scheduled to start Monday morning on 9/8/2014. I had my fathers friend call the company on Monday morning, told them not to come, and we called the bank at 9:00am to stop payment on the check. When my brother brought over his repair man, the fuses were blown and replaced for $50.00 and the system works fine. read more

The tech convinced her that the heater needed to be replaced along with the one next to it which was working fine. BEWARE! I had a clogged bathroom tub drain. I called AJ Perri because they had a clog cleaning special promotion stating they would fix 'Any drain any time for $99.' The technician arrived, looked at my drain and called his supervisor outside. He came back inside and said since I had an older home (1930s) with older pipes he did not feel comfortable fixing my clog. He said he wanted to replace all the pipes in my home for $15,000. Yes, $15,000!!! When I told him I wasn't interested in replacing all the pipes in my home, he told me good luck finding a plumber to fix it because my 'old' pipes were at risk at bursting when the snake goes down to clear the clog. I called another plumber who fixed the clog for $90! Please do not waste your time with AJ Perri! If you have a small problem, they will use 'scare tactics' to make you believe you need to spend a ridiculous amount of money to fix something that doesn't even need to be fixed. I always like to have my furnace/boiler etc serviced every year prior to the cold. I have an old dinosaur of a furnace but it works. First thing. AJ Perrin is fast in getting you a plumber out to your home. They also take your credit card info upfront. I told them I have a tenant so to make sure they speak to me about any problems. I wanted him to do a basic "tune up" He came and called me saying I need a whole new system at a cost of 14k or I can get some burners changed at 9k. He left the tenant without even turning on the heat and said it was too dangerous. I asked him if he tried to change the filter or anything he said No and that the filters were a special order.. I had to drive 50 miles to turn on the switch because I was scared to have the tenant do it and voila the heat came right on. I wish they at least tried something to clean the lines, or change the filter beside looking at an old furnace and telling me something so predictable. A month later...my tenant said the house was smoky from the furnace so this time I had her schedule an appointment with the oil company and have them send a repair person. They came out the same day. The guy spent almost 3 hours cleaning the chimney which i never had cleaned apparently and he also changed 2 filters. It cost me 235.00 bucks. Money well spent! Before you call a plumber and you have oil heat call your oil company for repairs. Their job is to get you oil not necessarily upgrade your heating system. When you are ready to upgrade your system perhaps to gas then I guess AJ Perrin would suffice. read more

He forgot to coordinate with plumber. Then scheduled call for estimate on other work. No one ever called me back with estimate. Horrendous!! My inducer motor seized on my furnace and the guy came out and quoted me $980 to fix. He said my other option was to get a new furnace because my Goodman furnace was not too good and already 10 yrs old. I googled the part and found it online with Amazon for $120 with free delivery. I had the part the next day and a 6 minute Youtube video showed me how to install it and I was finished in 15 minutes. Beware unprofessional service! My heater blower stopped working in the middle of a winter storm. In a hurry, I called A.J. Perri that had an Ad in our community news letter. A tech came, opened the control box, measured electricity, told me that the motor was broken. A replacement would cost $930. I remembered that the motor was replaced a few years ago along with the fan cage at about $500. The guy came back in 2 minutes, offered a lower price of $700. I paid his trip cost, $89 + tax, and called Alpha Mechanical Inc (Newportville, PA), since I remember they repalced the motor. A technician from Alpha Mechanical came the next day, replaced a capacitor that costed $180, and the blower started happily. The technician from A. J. Perri was either not proficient enough to see the real problem, or wanted to do a more profitable job by replacing the motor. I am sure that I would pay for the capacitor too, had I let him replace the motor. read more

AJ PERRI IS A TOTAL RIP OFF!!! They advertise 'Any drain, Anytime for $99' on their website. I had a clogged drain in my shower and called them to take a look at it. They confirmed over the phone that they fix any clog for $99. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM! They sent a serviceman over who took a quick look at my pipes and said he had to call his boss. He came back 5 minutes later and said that the pipes are too old to run a snake down. He said to resolve the issue he would have to replace all the pipes in my home for $15,000. Yes, FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! (When they are advertising $99 to fix any clog). I had another plumber come over and fix the clog and replace the pipes behind my shower for only $600. My shower now works perfectly. AJ PERRI SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!!! I cannot believe these crooks are still in business. read more

I just had an annual maintenance service from A.J. PERRI for my furnace and got a horrible experience with this company. The first technician told me that the co number from my furnace is TOO HIGH (~2500 PPM), so he had to shut off my system. I don't believe this co number, so the A.J. PERRI sent another technician to my home next day. The second technician did another round check and gave me different set of co numbers (~500 PPM - ~800 PPM). It looks like the co number from my furnace is still high, but changed dramatically within one day. By the way, both of the two technicians pushed me to have their sales person to come my house for an estimate for replacement of the furnace, others wise I will put my family under extremely dangerous situation. I still don't believe the reduced co numbers, then I hired one company to check the furnace, they said furnace is fine but no formal document for me, so I hired another company called ALL Jersey Mechanical & Construction company to do the same job. One manager and one technician came to my house and did very detail job, they checked very vent from first floor and a pipe from my basement, presented a final report to me, the highest co number from the airflow is 2 PPM. I won't do any business with A.J. PERRI in the future and want to share my experience with anyone who is looking for a maintenance service or for a replacement project. read more

I was told I needed a new HW Heater, Furnace, and AC unit. I called PSEG to provide a second opinion and said everything here is in tip top shape. I am through with the ripoffs and what seems to be bait and switch, etc. I had the come out to check my air conditioner units last summer with a coupon. They said one unit needed coolant and that it would be best if I paid for next year too with this coupon, so I did...and then they signed me up for furnace tune-ups....The furnace tune-ups for two furnaces...well, the guy sat looking at his phone and was monitoring...it seemed...and said that one needed a part...with a really high markup. I paid it...since I know that part can go...and then mentioned my water heater making a noise. He said he could put it in today. I said what about the permit? He said he would take care of that....but I am certain he did not. He put in a 75 gal unit with someone else, scraping up the concrete in the basement....and I thought it was okay..worked. Then I had problems with smoke alarms, and the firemen said I should have them come out and check my furnace...so someone else came out and checked both furnaces...and the chimney metal ductwork from the furnace that meets the one from the water heater in the basement...was not connected all the way...so carbon monoxide could leak out into the basement and under my family room and home...and I was suffering from lots of headaches. This AJ Perri person who found it (if he did not loosen it himself) put new ductwork in from the furnace to meet the one from the water heater. Of course I was charged lots for that.....and yet, I had them come back for my AC units...since I already paid for that last year. Someone comes and does the usual...turning on the AC in the house for both units...then going out and taking the units apart...with the power off outside... I did not watch him the entire time. He came in the house with two parts in his hands..(why did he even take them out?) I am from the school of "If it isn't (ain't) broke, don't fix it." and I do maintain my cars, but I don't take out parts for no reason. He says these parts are capacitors, and that they are not fully charging where they should...they are under the minimum, (though both AC units work great, but are not at all new), and that they should be replaced at 350.00 each....That book they have with the charges they say are for the parts...labor is included....I was shocked. I said put them back in and hopefully they still work, though I know they discharge them to take them out. I looked up the parts..they are around 10 dollars each. I then told him when he left that well over three hundred dollars apiece to put in what essentially goes on like a battery with terminals you connect is highway robbery. He said he had to diagnose the problem. I said, yes, and that was included in what I paid last year....I don't know doctors who get paid that much for doing absolutely nothing and they go to medical school and residency programs after college...years and years of education. What plumber should make that kind of money for putting in something that would take five minutes to do? I am not an idiot. I will not have them back in my home ever again. I am lucky I am even alive with that loose chimney flu. I think they are told to look for problems even if they are not there and find a way to charge. They sent someone out last year to quote for new AC units and the main stayed in my home for four hours straight with high pressure sales tactics. Called them because of a stopped up sink. The tech tried to snake the drain but it didn't work. He smelled like cigarettes and did a lot of grunting and sighing but could not snake the drain. He told me it was "unsnakeable". He wrote up a $5,000 estimate to remove the tiled wall in my bathroom to replace the drain pipe. How he knew the exact location of the clog is beyond me. My kitchen wall is on the other side of the bathroom and they would have access to the pipes yet he insisted that the wall in the bathroom had to be removed. I will never call them again read more
