The broasted chicken and broasted potatoes were really good; the green beans were yummy and cooked like my mother always made them. My partner loved the western omelet. I'll skip the pies though when we go again. I love good pie so I was hopeful. We ordered the coconut cream and the strawberry rhubarb. They were mediocre at best. We decided to check this place out for early dinner. You seat yourself and the server will come to you. Our server was nice but I'm pretty sure she is new. We asked if they had Coke or Pepsi products and she wasn't sure. They got Pepsi products. We started out with the onion straws, they were hand breaded and hot when they arrived to the table. Loved those! We then got a hamburger steak dinner with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. All piping and amazing. This was fresh ground beef and not a frozen patty. We also got the hand breaded pork tenderloin and it was wonderful! Tater tots hot and fresh. I can't say enough about my appreciation for cooked to order food that came to the table hot. This seems to be a foregone art. As if that wasn't enough to eat they have an extensive pie list so being a southerner I opted for the Pecan Pie and while they didn't make it there it was delicious. We were so pleased with our meals that we had the server send the lady who was cooking out to the table and we sat and talked to her for a good 20 minutes. I was in Fortville this afternoon, and I decided to stop by the Broadway Diner for a late lunch. I'd been there for breakfast several years ago, and I remembered the food as being decent. With all the construction on Broadway, it was a little difficult getting into the parking lot, but manageable. It was 3pm on a Monday and only a couple of other customers were in the restaurant. I sat at the counter and was greeted right away by a friendly server. I considered breakfast, but decided on a Swiss Mushroom Burger with French Fries and Ice water. Total price with tax $12.27. The best part of my meal was the toasted bun, melted swiss cheese, and mushrooms. The burger was dry and lacked taste. The fries were okay, but undercooked. I wished that I had ordered something else. Maybe Boasted Chicken. To be fair, I'll give the meal 3 stars. Service was very good. 5 Stars. My biggest disappointment was the cleanliness of the place. Because I sat at the counter, I had a good view of the kitchen and food preparation area. The kitchen is somewhat "okay", but definitely needs a serious deep cleaning. The men's room was horrendous. It's hard to believe that the owners of Broadway Diner tolerate the condition of this rest room - Dark, hot, and filthy. 0 or negative Stars. There is a local feel at the Broadway Diner, and the staff is friendly, fast, and efficient. This place is just another "hole in the wall". Bathrooms are not very nice and several times there has been no toilet paper available. Nice little diner. Small town and local flavor. It was seat yourself and the waitress was right there with a menu and drink order. I had the 3 piece broasted chicken with mashed potatoes for about $14. I came out in about minutes and was nice and hot! It was good but could have used a few more spices but overall a good meal. Darn! I love to support independent restaurants. But this missed the mark. The decor is a little odd, gray walls with black trim, felt like more of an escape room. We waited over 40 minutes for our food and when my sister went and checked, they hadn't even started our order. We had plans so we had to leave. I think Caleb M. and I were there at the same time. I was greeted by a friendly waitress who told me to sit wherever I liked. I ordered the Down Home Favorites 2 scrambled eggs with sausage links and dry wheat toast. I use jelly on my toast. Everything was served hot. Sometimes the eggs or sausage links come lukewarm because they precook them. Everything was prepared to order. Everything tasted delicious. Dana was the waitress and her service was excellent. She let me know I can pay at the table. Dana brought over a handheld device which made the check out process quick and easy. Seven for dinner, only five got their meal.The other two dinners came 20 minutes later. None of us got the chicken because we were told it takes 15-20 minutes. Not good service because the server had the whole dining room plus was the cashier. We were told when we tried to pay that we can not use credit card. Really!!!! Nothing mentioned about that when we ordered. This was a One and Done for us. Too many other good places to spend my money. If this was a bar, I would have called it a dive bar. They ate known for the GIANT hand made breaded tenderloin. Its the perfect match of pounded tenderloin with breading. The best way to eat it? The Broadway Diner doesn't look like much from the outside but who cares about the exterior when what you want is inside! You can find diners in most small towns. They are gems that create feuds on which small town has the best diner and the Broadway Diner falls in to that category. It is my favorite place for breakfast, hands down. I am a breakfast guy. I love everything there is about breakfast. The eggs, the bacon, the biscuits & gravy... I can't get enough. I am not here to talk about Broadway Diner's amazing breakfast though. I am here to shout to the masses and hold aloft one of the dishes that makes Indiana well, Indiana. I am, of course, talking about the breaded tenderloin. I judge a place on their breaded tenderloin. If I order a breaded tenderloin, and a perfectly shaped puck the same size as the bun, I can tell you a few things. First, the owner is probably not a native Hoosier. Second, they probably buy their breaded tenderloins, mass produced, frozen, and by the case. Thirdly, the cook is dare I say, lazy... gasp. I am happy to say the breaded tenderloins at Broadway Diner are one of those! The pound the pork flat, think , and the size of a plate. They then bread it and deep fry it until golden brown. If you think that is all there is to it, you are sadly wrong. You can get a slice of soy, gooey, melted American cheese on top if you want. Normal fixings are lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, and mayo, though the sky is the limit with toppings. I was on my way home, when the craving hit and luckily Broadway Diner was on my way home. I walked in and sat on a stool at the counter. I ordered my breaded tenderloin with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo all on the side... with a side of fries. I didn't know it, but they had been hit with a couple of big to go orders and the kitchen was making beaded tenderloins as fast as they could. I sat at the counter, sipping on my soda, while I waited for my ordered to be ready. Once it was ready, I paid and made my way home. That first bite... mmmm... hot, juicy, salty, and satisfying. I sat on the couch eating my sandwich, dipping my fries in ketchup, and drinking my Pepsi. Life was good. Broadway Diner is among the best of the diners I have been to. So if you want a diner to look spotless and have servers who are always right on the spot the second you want them and food that's measured out and cooked perfectly each and every time, I don't think this is the place for you. But I went having never heard of it before, and I already want to go back. Best pork tenderloin sandwich I've ever had. It's big, well over twice the size of the buns that came with it, and it's so tender you can cut it with a fork. I sat at the bar, which overlooks the kitchen, sipped unsweetened iced tea and listened as customer after customer ordered the tenderloin (one incarnation called a "wet tenderloin" is like a regular one except smothered in brown gravy). I watched as the well practiced kitchen staff hand-banged out each raw piece of tenderloin, then breaded it and cooked it. In addition to the tenderloin, I ordered a cup of Indiana chill, so called because evidently Indiana style chili includes small chunks of diced tomatoes. It was very good as well. When the restaurant is crowded, the 8 or so people who work there, all of whom spent at least 50% of their time in the kitchen doing whatever their assigned tasks are, move like they're wearing rocket skates, with the ones assigned to the dining room zipping in and out and in and out. Their menu is superior, with numerous breakfast choices, traditional diner fare, heavy on the comfort food side of things, as well as some niceties such as ribeye and sirloin. They even had catfish. And they have about a dozen different kinds of pie for dessert. The place is family owned. It doesn't even have a sign out front so you have to know it's there to find it. The co-owner is a nice guy who's trying to raise the profile of the place. The restaurant was started in another location in Fortville by his grandfather, and it burned down in the late 90s, so they opened this location and it's been going strong ever since. Fortville is out of the way for most of us, and I don't know that I'd call this a destination by itself. But the food I had was really good, everyone was very friendly, and if it's any indication of how popular it is, the place was full and had a pretty substantial flow of customers come in and order carryout, some ordering several meals worth of stuff, including one who wanted a patty melt, which isn't on the menu but they made it anyway. In these troubled times, isn't it nice to have at least one place where you can get what you want at an honest price, have it taste really good and know that you're supporting a group of family members who are trying their best to keep their ship afloat? read more

If Norman Rockwell had been painting his iconic Americana well into the mid 80s, this diner would be inspiration. It's not fancy. It's not particularly spotless. It's absolutely down home grandma comfort food and it's mostly done well. They have probably the best broasted chicken I've ever had (except for John Wayne's on stop 11 back in the 90s). We have been coming to the Broadway Diner since before we even moved here in 2006. The food is delicious, the price is more then fair, and they treat you like you are family. Isn't that everything a small town diner is supposed to be? Personally, the Farmers Omelette is the go to meal for Breakfast. For later in the day, start with the Fried Green Tomatoes with Ranch sauce, then comes more of the good stuff! A Patty Melt has just recently been added to the menu, but locals know that they've been making it for years if you ask. It's excellent! If you're not in the mood for that, there's plenty to pick from, including a hand made to order Breaded Tenderloin sandwich that is hard to beat anywhere outside of Grandma's kitchen! When it comes to dessert, many of the pies they offer are actually made by the local Amish ladies, so the flavors vary sometimes, but the basics are always there. One time I even scored a piece of Grape Pie there that was amazing! If you're ever in Fortville at meal time, and you don't look their way, you missed out! If you're headed into Fortville, a bedroom community in Hancock County just north of Indianapolis, the odds are pretty strong you're not intentionally finding your way to Broadway Diner. Broadway Diner is the kind of small town restaurant you visit when you go into small towns precisely because you want to experience the locals. In this kind of restaurant, the locals eyeball you with just a hint of wariness before likely deciding whether or not they can greet you with the usual warmth of an Indiana small town. In my case, being in a wheelchair, I usually get the benefit of the doubt. My personality tends to be naturally disarming and my wheelchair usually seals the deal. Located in a very small, rather run down strip center that's about half vacant, Broadway Diner is probably best described as divey. It's not that I really thought it was that divey, but if you're the kind of of diner who wants a spotless floor and a complete absence of dust then you're likely to be a little uncomfortable here. Personally? I loved it. They seemed to have 1 accessible parking spot, though it wasn't particularly ADA compliant. That said, with half the building vacant I had zero difficulty finding an appropriate place to park. There's multiple ways to access the sidewalk entryway that are wheelchair friendly. There's two doors to enter (one-sided). There's a bit of a lip at the doorway that's a little tricky, especially going out, but I had little trouble dealing with it. Once inside, you have an eclectic decor that includes a lunch counter type setting, multiple booths, and some set apart tables. While certainly not every setting is wheelchair friendly, my server made sure I was set up at a comfortable 2-top near the front of the restaurant. She was friendly and helpful throughout my time there. The food includes your usual small town diner options including breakfast and lunch options. I believe they close at 2pm, though I'm not 100% certain. They definitely have a pretty extensive menu of sandwiches and such. I'd originally envisioned lunch, but opted for a breakfast of french toast and a side of fried potatoes. I ordered my usual unsweetened iced tea. My entire meal came in at just under $10 without tip. I consider this a definite high value. This isn't gourmet french toast - it's not got all the fancy schmantzy toppings. It's small town french toast, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The fried potatoes, in particular, were rather generous in portion. I got my always desired unsweetened iced tea refill. The customers were friendly, even to this relative outsider, and my server was strong throughout. I had to chuckle, though. I checked in on Facebook and laughed when I saw they'd "liked" my post. So, I guess that means they do pay attention to social media! Overall, I thought this was a solid 4-star experience and I would easily return when in the area. I occasionally get in the mood to visit the Fortville area. It's not that there's a ton to do, but it's a small and cute town with a few shops, a few restaurants, a great doughnut shop, and this rock solid hometown diner. While you should prepare yourself that it's a tad bit divey, for those who appreciate dives, small town diners, or simply the joy of eating in a small town, Broadway Diner is a great place to visit that's a short drive from Indy. read more

We tried Broadway Diner for dinner tonight and wow was it good! My brother and cousin were coming over for dinner so they picked it up on the way. The pork tenderloin was amazing, then broaster chicken was the best fried chicken I have ever had, fried green tomatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. The cheeseburger was amazing! We tried peanut butter pie, blueberry pie and their brownie was omggggg all so good! I can't even describe how good it was. It's amazing comfort food. This is a go to for nice simple dinner. Our favorites are the Chicken Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, or Jalapeño Burger. they have good Baked Potatoes and Good French Fries. Make sure you order the French Fries Crispy and you will enjoy them even more. The service is good and consistent. They have dramatically improved the look and ambiance of the restaurant. It's been awhile since we've been to the Broadway diner but decided to stop in this morning for breakfast. To our surprise they had totally renovated the inside and really dressed it up. It looks so much better the tables are separated nicely and it just looks like a lot more room inside. We both ordered a basic breakfast combined of eggs breakfast meats fried potatoes biscuits and gravy. the gravy was wonderful and tasted like homemade gravy. The eggs were freshly scrambled and also very good. Did the breakfast meat was cooked perfectly and also very tasty. We did have a moment of down time from our waitress as she took a break to leave this restaurant to go get ice for her personal consumption. During her absence another waitress passed our table twice what the coffee decanter and not want stopped to ask if we wanted to refill. And let me make this clear there was only one other table being occupied in the whole entire restaurant so they weren't busy at all. But the food was very tasty the restaurant was very clean and the staff was all masked. They required patrons to wear a mask upon entering. We will definitely come back again despite the service we received today. I have to say that up until the point when our waitress took a break to leave the building service was wonderful. read more

I was almost to my destination of Pendleton but forgot the Pendleton Pike would take me thru Fortville and one of my fav Indiana eateries. When I realized where I was I immediately pulled into the Broadway Diner for my first Indiana food! Naturally I ordered the pork tenderloin, billed as a "Wet Tenderloin," after clarifying with the waitress if "wet" meant covered in gravy. It did. The pork tenderloin was moist and tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, just as it should be. I stopped using my knife to cut it when I discoveref how easily it cut with a fork. It came with a crisp salad and my choice of mashed potatoes and gravy plus Indiana style green beans cooked in a generous portion of pork fat. Life is good. Once my Hoosier cravings were satiated I hit the road again. I can't wait to go back. 9/26/16. I stopped in the Broadway Diner, one of my favorites over the years of coming here. I was going to get their pork tenderloin which I remember as being good but then I saw on the specials board a Broasted Pork Chop plate, $7.99. I knew their broasted chicken was delicious so I asked the waitress if the broasted pork chop was made the same way and she said yes. I ordered it along with some sweet potato fries and spinach and had one of the best meals yet since I've been in the area. Somehow they get the pork chop shaped like a dome, dip it in the delicious breading and deep fry it so that it comes out with a delicately crispy coating but fully cooked, moist and tender on the inside. Sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and the vegetable was canned spinach which is one of my favorites so I was happy to get it. They had sugar cream pie on the dessert board so I ordered a piece, but it was a little more of a disappointment. After a long Saturday we decided to stop in this diner for dinner before arriving home. Walking in we were greeted and quickly assumed we seat ourselves. Within minutes our server came to the table to ask for our drink requests. My hubby got country fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. I chose a Gyro and our 10 year old ordered chicken tenders off the kids menu. Our server was on top of it! She seemed to have the perfect timing on refilling our drinks and was amazingly friendly. As for my observations the staff was quick to clean up other tables and things customers just drop on the floor without caring to pick up. All of our tummies are full and if we travel through the area we will be sure to stop in. The price point was very affordable with the delicious food. The tenderloin had good flavor and was good size but very thin and mine was ALOT smaller then the guys next to me. The potatoes were barely cooked still hard with no flavor. My order sat under the warmer for a good 10-15 mins while she cleaned tables and took orders so was not hot when I got it. Asked for refill on water never did get it. My daughter and I had lunch yesterday after checking reviews on Yelp. She had a chili cheese dog and fries and I had a catfish lunch special. Our waitress was very friendly and helped our decision making by sharing their daily lunch specials. The diner was busy and we got our meals in about ten minutes.
