During Pride Month, they were hosting drag brunch shows, which looked like a great time and added to the lively atmosphere. The menu offers a good variety of options for both lunch and dinner. During my visit, I ordered the lobster roll, steak frites, French onion soup, and the carrot cake cinnamon roll. Everything tasted good, but the standout for me was the French onion soup, it was very well executed, flavorful, and generously portioned. I also loved the fries that came with the steak frites; they're the thin, crispy kind that are perfect for anyone who enjoys a good crunch. Overall, the food was enjoyable and the atmosphere was nice, with plenty of TVs throughout the restaurant showing sporting events. My only criticisms were that some of the menu prices felt a bit high for what was served, and the service was slower than expected considering the restaurant was mostly empty. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (gochujang, chedder cheese, chili cucumber, red cabbage, kosho aioli), which came with fries. Overall, this dish was very tasty. The fries were perfectly crispy but a little too salty- this ended up balancing out as the sandwich itself needed some salt. Otherwise, the sandwich was great- tender chicken, crunchy slaw, tangy cucumber, umami and subtly spicy sauce. The beef tartare was my favorite thing we had with a different twist than I'm used to with almost a creamy texture. I absolutely loved this. For dinner, had the mussels, short rib, and a chocolate tart for dessert. The short rib was delicious in flavor although not having that fall off the bone that I'm used to. So, we tried most of the breakfast items, and our favorites are the duck hash and the duck for dinner. The truffle fries are good too! The steak tartare was really salty to me but my partner enjoyed it. The grilled shrimp was okay. I don't recommend the iced latte. I don't think it was an espresso over ice when they gave it to me. It was more like iced coffee and they gave me milk(?) on the side. I'm not too sure but it's not what I expected it to be. The service was great, and everyone was kind and friendly. I have frequented Ajax about a dozen times. I live walking distance so it is very conveniently located for me. Ambiance is dark and intimate. Very nice decor especially for a hotel restaurant. This meal took place on 1/20/26. The service is always very attentive and courteous. Staff knows the menu very well and they typically make great suggestions. However on this particular night the waiter should have suggested we do not order the oysters. It's possible he did not know about their "state", so this really is the kitchen's / executive chef's fault not the waiter, who that evening provided very great service. To the meal , there was three of us , we ordered two salads and 6 oysters, and cauliflower as side and I had the Berkshire pork . 2 of us had the pork and 1 of us ordered the aged ribeye . 2 of us ate half a dozen oysters . They were pretty briny but I did not think much of it a the time being that Ajax is a great steakhouse . However that evening at about 3am in the morning I felt extremely ill. Luckily, was not full blown food poisoning but my stomach was in knots that entire night and most of the next day, even after uncomfortable visits to the bathroom that night my stomach was hurting all night/morning to the point I couldn't fall back asleep. Initially I thought maybe it was the mixture of two wheat beers with salads , and pork , and cauliflower and oysters, (to many different foods) that was until today when I spoke to my buddy who also had the oysters and said he had a similar horrible experience . We both were very ill that evening and into the following morning. We are now absolutely sure, it was the oysters as we both recalled them having too much liquid and Briney flavor that could have indicated they have spoiled and gone Bad . They should Have not served them at all or at least tested one before sending out if they were older supply. Any place that serves raw seafood must be held at a higher standard when it comes to serving it , as spoiled seafood can have serious consequences. The pork was delicious but I will def never be ordering seafood from there again. read more

The inner leeks were far more palatable. The burger was the star! I literally cannot say enough about it. I added bacon and got the truffle fries, so incredible! They were fantastic: attentive, friendly, and clearly invested in making sure we had a great experience. Service during dinner was consistently great. Unfortunately, our brunch to-go experience was handled extremely poorly due to management. One morning, we placed a to-go brunch order because we didn't have time to dine in. The receptionist told us there would be about a 45-minute wait, took down our order, room number, and phone number, and said we would be called when it was ready. After waiting over an hour, I returned to pick up the order. The manager, Dana, told me there was no order at all -- not in the system, not written down, nothing. She insisted the order was never placed and offered no explanation for what happened. When I expressed frustration after already waiting an hour, I was told to simply repeat the order and wait another 30 minutes. When I questioned why I should wait again, her response was dismissive and rude, including "Do you want the food or not?" followed by sarcastic, philosophical comments about not being able to go back in time and "starting fresh." There was no apology, no accountability, and no attempt to make things right -- just deflection and attitude. It was shocking behavior for a restaurant of this quality and price point. Quite possibly one of the the worst experiences in Denver . I understand that it was Valentine's Day but they were so ill prepared. We had 8P.M.reservations , when we got there the hostess said they were running 15 minutes behind which is understandable. We sat at the bar to have drinks and decided to stay there. We started to order when the bartender stopped us to tell us that three of the 8 entrees were no longer available. This was 8:15 . The poor hostess was running around by herself clearing tables and trying to seat people without any help. Everything took 40 minutes to receive . The bartenders did not engage andwere even throwing the kitchen under the bus. The Steak Tartare had a ground paste texture to it but the French onion soup was very good . The kicker was when we ordered focaccia after the place had cleared out and it took 40 minutes. How was the chef so unprepared on one of the busiest nights of the year? My wife and I ate at Ajax last night for the first time. We had a reservation, and we were seated immediately, having arrived right on time. Our drink orders were taken right away. My drink was pretty small, but it tasted perfect. It took the waiter forever to come back to take our food order. But it was Valentine's Day, so it seemed like it was okay to have a slow, casual dinner. He eventually came over and I ordered a dozen oysters for us to share. My wife ordered roasted duck. I ordered the short rib. We got the oysters, which were all really small, but they were good. But they cost $46, which seemed really out of sync for what new got. Another staff member brought my wife's dinner, which she placed between us. We didn't think anything of it, but it was a clue. I told my wife to go ahead and start her dinner. There was no point in her waiting for me to be served. It would just get cold. It looked really good. She started right away and told me it was already cold. Eventually I got tired of waiting for my dinner, so I started to get up. My wife signaled for me to sit back down. The waiter came over. I told him I was getting pretty hungry for my dinner. He looked confused. He came back to the table a little while later and told us that he had neglected to click a button on his tablet to confirm my order. He was very apologetic about it and said that he would make it right. Heck, it's short rib, so you know it's already cooked. Short rib takes hours to cook. It was actually a pretty long time until my dinner arrived. We both ordered another cocktail. It finally arrived just when my wife finished eating her dinner. I may be mistaken, but I thought that the menu had said short rib. What I was served was pastrami short rib. It was really salty. I wouldn't order that one again. Well, the bill arrived, and they had taken my wife's dinner off of the bill, but mine was still there. Honestly, I won't go back because there were just too many negative things going on that night, and to us. I hope everyone else had a really nice dinner. read more

Ajax Downtown is now the restaurant in the Limelight Hotel. The restaurant opened in early August of 2024, after a renovation of the former Citizen Rail. We were fans of the former restaurant and are excited about this new venue! The restaurant serves modern American cuisine for breakfast lunch and dinner. Jamie and I dined on their opening night. We were very pleased with the drinks and entrées we ordered! Jamie got the boxcar cold brew and tonic, and I got the garden gimlet. Both drinks were tasty and, spirit free. For dinner, we had the roasted beef entrée and the Seabass. Both were excellent, and indicative of the quality of the restaurant's executive chef Becker. Our servers were very friendly, particularly on their opening night. The ambience is subtle and enjoyable, with booth seating, which we really enjoy. Table seating is also available. Across the way from the restaurant is the bar in the corner, which was a happening place. After dining, we reviewed the breakfast menu, which is similar to the menu that the venue had before it was reset as Ajax downtown. We will definitely be back for breakfast! Check out Ajax downtown. And you will pay heavily for the experience. A salad with chicken is $25! It seems that the only way this place survives is because hotel guests are given free or discounted meals. They have an incredible happy hour, with some of the best small plates offered at half price--an excellent way to try a variety of dishes without breaking the bank. We started with the PATÈ + FOIE, and I have to say, it was probably one of the best pâtés I've ever had (and I've tried a lot in my foodie lifetime). It had a unique flavor, almost reminiscent of sausage, and the foie gras was incredibly creamy and rich with flavor. Next, we tried the COAL SIMMERED BANGS ISLAND MUSSELS. While the flavor combinations were spot on, the mussels themselves, unfortunately, lacked freshness, which was a bit of a letdown. The SEA SCALLOP UDON was unique in that the udon noodle was actually made from sea scallop. With four of us sharing, it ended up being just one bite each, but it lacked the wow factor that we were all hoping for. The OVEN BAKED SOURDOUGH was a delightful twist on traditional bread service. Paired with tomato jam and stracciatella, it almost felt like a bite of pizza--fresh, flavorful, and comforting. The standout for me was the STRAPPONI. The noodles were perfectly cooked and had a fresh, handmade quality to them, paired beautifully with the squash and beurre sauce. My second favorite was the ROASTED DUCK BREAST, cooked to perfection with a tender, juicy bite each time. The peach curry added just the right amount of sweetness, making it a memorable dish. However, the MESQUITE GRILLED 1/2 CHICKEN, a recommendation from our server, was a disappointment. The chicken was overcooked, resulting in a dry and tough texture that fell short of expectations. A special shoutout to our server, who was excellent throughout our meal, providing great recommendations and attentive service. Overall, this restaurant offers a mixed bag, with some dishes that truly stand out and others that need refinement. I was thouroughly disappointed in my meal. I was walking by and a saw the menu posted outside, which I enjoy, to see what the restauramt serves. WAGYU BOLOGNESE got my attention. But $36 for this dish also got my attention. (I just looked at the online menu and it has been reduced to $32). I love a good bolgnese! For that price I assumed they make a house fresh pasta. No. The penne pasta was just like I would get out of a box off a store shelf. The bolognese sauce itself, was just ok. I can do better at home. Appetizers took 25-30 minutes after ordering and we had to leave before the entrees arrived 1.5 hrs after being seated. The restaurant was less than half full for the entire experience and a table that sat 30-45 minutes after us got their food as we were leaving. Having worked in the industry for 16+ years the most disappointing part was how the manager avoided coming over to speak with us directly, just communicated thru the server. My wife loved the cannelloni, great flavor, not too heavy. Felt decadent. My ribeye came out cold, which was a bummer because the presentation was gorgeous. I hesitated sending it back but it was genuinely cold and I hate that. They heated & replated. It was just meh. I should have ordered the pork chop. There was a really nice parsnip purée that kept me interested, but otherwise the dish was a bust. We both had a couple of glasses of the Fabelist Cabernet, which was quite tasty. Service was ok but I found our server a little casual for the price tag. She also seemed to chill some after I sent back my entree. Based on the plate being hot as hell and the food being cold, I assumed it sat under the heat lamp for a while. She should have been able to figure that out before serving it.
