We didn't have a reservation but got lucky & was able to get a seat inside after being on the mountain all morning. We had a sandwich that was similar to a Cuban and the famous wagyu double cheeseburger. I got my burger well done and it was cooked perfectly. The truffle fries were the best I've ever had. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. I can't have grapefruit juice so I requested their hibiscus Paloma to be made as a margarita instead & they were able to do it! Very good drink. Our waiter was also super helpful with recommending local beers on their menu to try. We really enjoyed our meal here. I feel like this is a must stop for anyone visiting Aspen. read more

Amazing views. Lackluster food. Bad service. Had a lunch reservation but didn't get seated for 10 mins. Took another 10 plus to get water to the table. It was a beautiful day and we sat at the table with the best view of the mountain and gondola. Service was few and far between. Obviously on the pricier side because it's a hotel in the middle of Aspen. Ordered the wagyu burger and the bolognese. We added the truffle Fries ($9 upcharge) but they didn't even taste like truffle. The wagyu burger meat tasted like one of those frozen cafeteria patties you ate in elementary school. You know, the ones with the weird pattern on the meat?! The bolognese was fine. Nothing to write home about. This meal left much to be desired and I would avoid this spot unless you decide to ONLY give the truffle Fries one more chance. But realistically? We stumbled upon this gem on a walk thru town in Aspen. It's located at the base of the gondola and has an amazing outdoor patio. Our server, Raymond went above and beyond to take care of us. Ajax Tavern definitely has the Perfect view of the slope! The place was not crowded at all when we came in mid afternoon without a reservation. The hostess was a bit pretentious, maybe because we didn't have reservation. However, we had great service from our server and the food exceeded our expectation, everything was fresh and with quality ingredients. My lasagna was pretty straightforward and a smart couldn't-feed-a-trucker size portion thankfully limits calorie intake as a concern. More notable was an enthusiastic effort toward great, attentive, but not over-bearing service. The waiter was on point and impressive. I grabbed an ice cold cider and drank it on the deck with the heater on while it was snowing and that was an experience. We ate here two times! And both times we had a wonderful experience! The hostesses we're absolutely wonderful both times! We had to wait for a table one day but wait was only 15 minutes. The first time we had reservations which I highly recommend! Both times our waiters were very pleasant! Unfortunately I do not remember their names but they were excellent! We come here every summer to produce the Art Fair in the Aspen Ice Garden around this time. I've personally been on a bit of a quest to find the best burger in each of the towns we regularly visit, and I have found it in Aspen! Love the location of this restaurant at the bottom of Aspen mountain. After a fun day filled with skiing they host loud music for après ski and drinks - so fun. We came in for dinner too and shared a pasta Bolognese dish and a salad with garlic fries which were all very good. We ordered a side of chicken for our dog and they charged us $25 for that which was very surprising. We didn't like that and we didn't like our server. She was not very nice. read more

Went to Aspen for the first time last week and this was highly recommended. We decided to go by for lunch and give it a try. Great location and plenty of seating between the patio and indoors. The waygu cheeseburger and charcuterie board. The burger was amazing. It had such unique flavor and was so rich. I also upgraded to the truffle fries which were so good. The portions are very large though and I would suggest splitting. The charcuterie board had a great variety and I was very happy with their choices. My only complaint is the pricing. Great service, got our food within 10 minutes of ordering (we were the first to be seated). A bit of an overpriced menu for a tavern and bar food, but it's a step above - just like everything else is in Aspen. It's apparent that the location of the spot is definitely meant for a killer apres ski vibe with a big outdoor patio area. We came on a weeknight evening for dinner and it was quite literally empty upon our arrival but it did fill up a bit when we we're leaving so I guess the dining scene here peaks around 8-9pm. The cauliflower gratin that I had read about on yelp was one not to miss and I'm really glad we ordered it. For my entrée I split the double cheeseburger and the beets & spring pea salad. Both were tasty as was everyone else's meal, I just don't think anything was rave-worthy. The service was good, the restaurant was just nothing special for Aspen, there are many more unique and fun dining options in town. Had we had the chance, I would've liked to see the scene for Apres but the day we skied at Ajax was just non-stop powder day! I did see a few tables order the $17 starter truffle fries which I'm sure were unreal, but the portion just looked huge and we didn't want to kill our dinner with French fries (not like there's really anything wrong with that...) read more

Every time I am in Aspen, I always have lunch at Ajax Tavern. I love the location watching people ski down Aspen Mountain. My favorite dish on their menu is the tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich - so so good and comforting especially when it is so cold outside. Ajax has also put into place Covid protocols including filling out an online form with your name and info. They also take temps at the door and created a tent for outdoor dining. I love the Moet champagne vending machine that they just set up too! read more

I have been to this restaurant several times during the winter and summer. In the winter it was busy and the service was OK. Right now it's low season plus the pandemic and for some reason the service is awful. The hostess sat us on a table where all the umbrellas were open so we couldn't see Aspen Mountain, the only reason you go to this place is for the view because the food is ordinary and the service is awful. So we asked the waiter Alexander if we could move to the empty tables in the front, he said he was going to check. He took so long to come back that we sat on another table. Alexander came back and said we couldn't seat anywhere else. Its like 6:30 pm on a Tuesday, the outdoors is empty and there was no need for the open umbrellas since the sun was setting. We just wanted to have a drink so we told Alexander when your reservations arrive just tell us we will give you the table back, he said no. Alexander's attitude is terrible, I don't understand how he is working in a 5-star Hotel. Between all that we had ordered a rose wine and a drink which never came. In order for a restaurant to have a 5-star rating, you need to serve a drink within 4 minutes of the guest's being seated. We also asked for a blanket because it was cold but never received. We got so frustrated so we asked Alexander to please bring our drinks and bill downstairs to the pool area. We walked downstairs, which is part of the Little Nell Hotel, the same property as Ajax, but Alexander never brought us the drinks. Noone was downstairs to welcome us. We sat in front of the fire pit for 15 minutes, there were 4 waiters and a manager talking to each other and no one came to serve us. Finally, we asked if someone could serve us. The firepit was broken, they have 2 awful rose wines by the glass, I mean if you are going to charge $25 for a glass of wine at least have Miraval, Whispering Angel, or Domaine Ott. When I go to a 5-star restaurant I expect 5-star service, food, and drinks, this is for sure not 5 star. And there is more when we left around 8 pm all the tables were empty see photos This establishment is down in service. You definitely have to make this a stop in aspen. The food is good, the drinks are good, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is spot on. Service can be improved but we only interacted with 3 members of the team, our waiter was rushed so he rushed us. We were sat without our whole party and was approached and said we were waiting on people and received water. Then we received radio silence until the others arrived when 5 minutes later he collected food orders at which point we ordered our bar drinks. This seemed odd for a highly trafficked place. Agree with others that the quality has significantly gone down while the price has consistently gone up. I've been coming here for the burger and fries and just can't justify it anymore. Fries were great. No problems there and will be back for just the fries for apres ski. The burger however is not what it used to be... two grey patties, no char and a few measly strands of lettuce. Even for Aspen this quality isn't worth the steep price tag. Disappointed that the quality and consistency of my favorite burger has gone down so much. read more
