As mentioned in other reviews, it looks almost abandoned from the street (the road construction in front doesn't help and makes getting to it a bit of a challenge) but the interior ambiance was pleasant and very clean and comfortable and dinner there was far and away the best meal my family and I had during our stay in Taos. Had we discovered it earlier I'm sure we would have eaten there multiple times. And what a nice surprise to find a Pisco Sour (Peru's national drink) done right and their Margaritas were better than any others sampled during our travels in the Southwest. If I could give six stars, I would! My husband and I live in the Bay Area and have very high quality restaurants there. Aji is just as good or better. It is such an excellent value for the quality. The Summer Salad was excellent with roasted corn, mixed greens, a few slices of pickled radish and carrot with a tasty creamy vinaigrette dressing. The broiled salmon came with chimichurri sauce but I asked for it on the side. It was so tender and flavorful that I didn't use any sauce. It came with corn pudding which was a perfect compliment. The Tallarin Verde was a pesto pasta, potatoes with a mild spicy cheese sauce and by NY steak. My husband is picky and he couldn't stop raving about his food. We came here on our way back from the Enchanted Circle drive. I had read good things about the trout, and those reviews did not disappoint! Started with the squash soup...was amazing! Flavorful, hot, croutons were crunchy. Hubby had the baby Caesar salad...beautiful presentation, fresh, wonderful Caesar dressing. Trout was flavorful, cooked to perfection, tender and moist! Good sear and top crunch...great all around! Peruvian cookies for dessert were light, crispy and delicious. I just got takeout from here a couple days ago, and their trout and their flan was one of the best meals I've had in a while. Trout was just perfect with nice mushrooms and fresh veggies, and two nice filets. Flan was probably best I've had (though I'm not an expert), really delicious. And all for 20$, a very good value IMO. And...it was pretty healthy. Give this place a try! I will be back for sure. read more

Fantastic meal and service. Place is run by co-owners Jessie and Kinchei. We ate tapas style -- tried the anticuchos (beef heart skewers) and empanadas (flavor of the day was ground beef and onion) to start. You must try the Jalea - Peruvian style fried seafood, snapper, calamari, shrimp, mussels, yucca (corn meal breaded). It was superb. We finished our meal with Death by Chocolate - a choco-quinoa cake, with ice cream and strawberries. The restaurant lacks a full bar but offers beer and a very nice wine list. The food was amazing! I am so glad someone in town recommended it to us during our stay in Taos. I can imagine many would drive right by the restaurant as the exterior is not as welcoming, doesn't really even look like it's operating. The front door is barely visible from the road. I am not sure how long they have been in business but I hope that people will keep showing up, that they hire more staff to accomodate the tables they are able to fill and that people will be able to enjoy the excellent food we were served! A fantastic blend of traditional Peruvian food and Asian spices! I had the Pato, which was cooked so the meat fell off the bone and the mashed sweet potato was the perfect compliment. Another must-try is the Empanadas as well as the soup. The whole family is currently happily awaiting dessert! Espresso flan and quinoa chocolate cake! So much flavor in everything we ordered. The shrimp chowder was so rich and creamy and delicious. And very affordable cocktails, too!

The meal was delicious (we had slow roasted duck that fell off the bone and an incredible shrimp chowder). We shared a slice of yummy passion fruit cheesecake (chocolate crust, velvety cheesecake, passion fruit glaze) which was a perfect, not-too-sweet end to our lovely meal. I hate to give this place a 5 review cause a lot of factors go into a 5 review. This place nonetheless didn't really hit any of those. Decor. Bland, location, odd, the space. Boring. I mean this is Taos, NM. But I can say this. After reading all the 5 reviews and a 2 of the 3 reviews. This place delivers on food. Portions although a little small hit on all taste and flavors of entree. The ceviche. Both styles. Are just right for locator in the middle of nowhere New Mexico. The pisco sour was on point and even had them in Peru. Simple well planned dishes. In a non discript building serving solid entrees outside the normal Mexican and or American grub found around town. 3 generations, my daughter, my mom and myself had a fantastic meal today at this lovely restaurant. Great service and great food, all made with fresh ingredients and love. My Salmon was cooked perfectly and came with an amazing salad that included roasted corn that was obviously from an actual cob. My daughter's chicken and rice dish had an amazing sauce with a unique combination of spices. My mom had the crispy calamari sandwich which she thoroughly enjoyed. The BEST dining and otherwise experience my had in Taos! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. My family and me had been traveling all day. We knew we'd be arriving near closing time so we called ahead to make sure it was ok if we stopped for dinner. The staff kept the kitchen open and treated us like family. And the food was FANTASTIC! Everything is made from scratch on the premises, even the lemonade. Even though I found the rest of Taos to be rude and unwelcoming, Aji Restaurant was the exception. read more

For a high-end tourist town, Taos has surprisingly mediocre food (on the other hand it's not overpriced). Aji is by far the best restaurant. Authentic Peruvian food that can match the great restaurants of Loma and would get top ratings in New York or LA, with a Southwestern flair of local ingredients. All this with moderate prices on a dusty dirt road south of town. I recommend the chicken empenadas and Andean trout, but you can't go wrong. read more

Everything there was very enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the meal at first was excellent. It was a clean restaurant but the weeds and bare earth were off-putting. They're a bit pricey for what we got and the taste was good but what the biggest issue was is that I got food poisoning. Not sure what they did, what they left out but I was sick all night after eating there. My wife had the Pato and I had the Mucho Lomo. As you can see from the attached pictures they were beautifully presented and as a starter we had the tres ceviches.(not pictured) Just a warning please be sure you know what you're getting into. Obviously they didn't do it on purpose but the problem is I was sick after eating the mucho Loma or more possibly the ceviche. read more

The food here is fantastic! Very unique, clean tasting and fresh. My mom, myself and her friend ate lunch here and we had the best time. The ambiance is lovely, the service was excellent and trying new, delicious dishes was fun! The dishes change seasonally and many ingredients are from local farms and sources. We can't wait to go back. In fact, we considered returning for dinner that day! We ate and shared the Causita, the Poco Loma, The Huencaina, the Fried Plantains and the Flan! Oh my goodness! How''d this restaurant end up in Taos? -no offense, but there are only a couple foodie gems here, and this is def one! The ambience is modern and quaint, the food is absolutely delicious, and very authentically Peruvian. The Lomo Saltado, and ceviches are excellent and the Pisco Sour was super fresh. We were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation and had excellent service to boot.
