Driving through Taos, we wanted to get something to eat. Vegetarian options looked limited on a quick search in yelp. But then we saw Alys and their menu looked appealing. We decided to check it out. It's kind of a roadside stand with a drive through takeout, and some tables in a patio area. The menu includes a fair number of vegetarian options and some vegan ones too! And the staff were able to suggest a few changes to meet specific tastes. We ordered a black bean burger (with the zataar fries), a vegan breakfast burrito, and the chicken shawarma (which I didn't try). The portions were huge, the price was good, and it was so good. Stopped by during our visit to Taos and was hoping for some healthy food options and so glad we found Aly's. The food was fresh, delicious and the portions were generous. There's limited seating indoors but luckily the weather was nice, so their outdoor patio was fine and their fresh flowers on the table was a nice touch. A cute fun place on the main road heading north of Taos. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly staff, and even games to play while waiting. We both got gyros, the lamb and chicken. I stopped by Aly's earlier this week for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed the gyro. I checked out the menu beforehand and I knew that I also needed to try her cardamom cake. Because the cake was probably a day past its "expiration" date (it was on the drier side), Aly graciously gave me a slice for free. Nonetheless, the flavor and the amount of frosting were perfect. When I'm back in Taos, I really want to try one of her pies. It's a great place to stop either before or after shopping at Cid's Food Market next door. read more

We got our order to go and I forgot to take pictures. However, I got a few of the cute, relaxing ambiance, there is also a (nice) dog friendly patio. We had a gyro and a chicken shawarma, along with hummus, falafel and pita. It was all REALLY good, yet very different than anything I've ever tasted in other Mediterranean joints! Really good, and different! I really wanted to go back to try the fish n chips, as they looked really good too but ran out of time! All in all, I'm pretty sure anyone could find something they loved! Put this on your food list!!! We went on a busy weekend, and were out of a couple of things I wanted to try, but the items we ended up were so ridiculously delicious. The chipotle pie was so flavorful and the pie crust was perfect. The potatoes on the side were spiced with I don't know what, but it was so good that I couldn't stop myself at just "trying one" on our way back to our hotel. We also got the chicken shawarma and that baby was LOADED. Absolutely worth a trip. Will definitely be a must for us when we go back to Taos. read more

The pie I ordered lacked the peas in the description and the filling was just hamburger meat with no discernible other ingredients. I can't say that I would order it again. I was so excited to go to Alys but was not very impressed. I got the sausage roll, and maybe it was just the time of day I went (afternoon) but it tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a very long time. It was tough and stale. I only took a few bites before throwing it out. I also found it to be pretty expensive, especially since it was a drive through and I didn't have the sit down restaurant experience for the price (if that makes sense). Excellent as always! We visit twice about twice a year and always come to Aly's several times while we are in town. As much as we love New Mexican food, Aly's is a welcome and healthier option. The traditional gyro is unbelievably good with the addition of the balsamic vinegar pushing it over the top. I tried one of the smoothies tonight (metal detox) with my gyro and it was excellent as well. The staff is great and hard working. Everyone is always hustling and we love that about Aly's. Great nosh! Quick tip: don't use the drive-through. Park out front and pop in to the counter and get your kiwi pie to go and you'll be in and out in seven minutes. eat there if you're going to grab a burger. But i strongly suggest if you're going to use the drive-through that you only get a drink and pre-made pastry or something. Welp, it really all depends on the day you go. Sometimes it's okay, other times it's wow, so bad! The french fries are pretty dreamy, the "Mediterranean tapas" platter feel like a sad assortment of wet things from a can, not great. Where are 10 stars when you need them??? This place IS THE BOMB!!! The husband and I had just finished a 5.5 mile hike and were looking for something hearty to eat. After a quick search, we decided on Aly's and are so glad we did. From the cheerful cashier, to the no nonsense interior and great selection of music, we enjoyed every second of our experience. I had the Mediterranean salad with Shawarma-utterly fantastic. The husband had a traditional Gyro with Zatar fries, and when I asked how his meal was he replied, "Killer!"
