It's been a while since we've been to Ajisen Ramen! It brought back so many memories of dining at their Temple City and San Gabriel locations. (They still have the Temple City location besides Rowland Heights). I often forget about this spot because it's tucked away on the second floor of the strip mall at Fullerton and Colima, but I'm so happy they've reopened. It felt so nostalgic. My husband and I arrived before 7 p.m. on a weekday, and it was fairly quiet. The ambiance was comfortable, and the menu is extensive, offering everything from Japanese pasta and rice bowls to sushi and appetizers. We ordered the Premium Pork Ramen ($16.95) and the Tontoro Ramen ($18.25). Both tasted great, though we felt the portions could have been a bit larger. We saw many people come in while we were eating. Overall, the service was excellent, and we're just happy to have Ajisen Ramen back.

I haven't been to Ajisen in a while, and wanted ramen on a cold night. The food here is pretty solid, with plenty of ramen options, sushi rolls, and appetizers. I ended up ordering the corn & pork ramen, along with some gyoza. The portions are a bit on the smaller side so I wasn't too full after eating. Service was friendly and fast. The restaurant itself is clean, but only seats a few tables as it is kind of small inside.

Came here on a Friday night after work and the food and service were amazing. Waitstaff was very friendly and kept making sure everything was good with the meal and always kept track of refills in a be try timely manner. The ramen was definitely great and imo this place is top tier when it comes to Japanese cuisine. They have a selection of teas as well and boba. I had the green apple tea and it was very flavorful without being overly sweet. The music was also top tier. No idea who had aux that day but they should keep it haha

Finally had a chance to come eat here again after many years. I was excited to come back and hoping to order the enoki beef appetizer but sadly it's no longer on the menu. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen which was my original go-to dish. Unfortunately it tasted different and not nearly as spicy as they used to make it. It didn't quite hit the same nostalgic notes. Used to love this place! I'm open to try another dish next time. Maybe I'll find a new favorite.

Haven't been to an Ajisen in ages, came during late lunch. Food was mediocre, not sure why I loved Ajisens so much before. Maybe I just did order the right dishes. They do have a large selection great for parties that are indecisive and love varieties. Parking at this location sucks, hard to find parking during dinner rushes and hard to get out when it's busy. Tan-Tan Men- was alright, I'm not sure what I was expecting. Very thick peanut butter broth. There wasn't much to it either. Small ladle of ground pork was topped and maybe 1 or 2 wood ear fungus julienned with a handful of chopped green onions. Dragon Roll- wasn't too bad. Nicely rolled and eel that topped it wasn't too sweet. Corn w/ BBQ Pork Ramen- standard, pork wasn't as tender as we'd like it to be but wasn't tough. Broth wasn't bad.

Ajisen Ramen is a classic, and this was my first time at this location. The service was quick and my food came very quickly, exactly as I ordered it. I've always enjoyed their pork rib ramen, and it was exactly as I remembered it, the pork ribs were tender and soft. They also have lunch special prices which I thought were a great deal.

I feel like this is one of the older ramen joints that has it's own unique taste that feels a bit like home. Sadly the Irvine location closed and that was the nearest one but I'm glad they still have one of their OG locations, Rowland Heights! FOOD The entrees we ordered were the Volcano Ramen(for me), the Salmon Salad(for my girlfriend) and Fried Tofu. They're all incredibly delicious and I can't complain. Still tastes exactly the same from 10 years ago! I want to add that I normally would get the Spicy Beef Ramen which is one of their crowd-favorites but I always get pulled to the spicy side for the Volcano Ramen. I can't get enough of that Volcano sauce, it's a definite signature for Ajisen! For their appetizers, honestly they're all good but the Fried Tofu. There's just something about it that we can't get enough of. The sauce is amazing, the way they semi-fry it? just perfect! Highly recommend getting the Fried Tofu or even their Gyoza for appetizers! OVERALL Never would've thought I'd be writing a review for Ajisen considering I use to work at the Irvine location many many years ago but I couldn't help myself and visit an old memory of mine. The only reason I'm giving the 4 star is cause I think they forgot our Fried Tofu and we had to re-ask for the order so it arrived half way through our meal and I wasn't able to get the photos I wanted but it still tastes AMAZING. I'd also like to add that the ambiance of this location is completely different from Irvine's. Less stressful it seems but I should warn you that the location is not the best as it's very very high traffic near the intersection. So keep that in mind! Thanks again for the bowl of deliciousness Ajisen, we'll be visiting again soon!

Ajisen Ramen has been one of the most anticipated ramen spots to try on my hitlist for awhile. And with a location right in the heart of Rowland Heights, I was curious whether Ajisen's take on a bowl of ramen was similar to other places I've tried in the area. With this excitement in mind, I ended up dropping by on a Sunday night around 8:30PM right before the restaurant's closing time. Initially, I chose to grab a bowl at Ajisen quite late because many reviews here on Yelp have talked about the monstrous parking situation and long wait times for a table. But upon entering the restaurant, there were little to no people inside! This expedited the process in all of the best ways as I was able to get my bowl in 10 minutes from the moment I sat down. Though the staff were attentive and fast with service, the mobile ordering system took longer due to the large selection of items, lack of pictures, and confusing payment input system. Choosing quickly to eat and leave before the restaurant closed, I settled on a Premium Pork Ramen which was $16.95 at the time of this review. Upon receiving the bowl, I was happy to see that it was quite large and filled very close to the top. But despite this, the dish did lack a tad when looking at quantity. Inside the bowl, the thinly sliced premium pork made up about 20% of the dish, the noodles made up about 40%, and the broth took up the remaining 40%. In fact, there were so many noodles to the point where I subconsciously was rationing the pork throughout the meal. After consuming the bowl, I left the restaurant feeling only filled, not full. Looking at the price, 17 dollars leans on the more pricey side for a bowl of ramen in the Rowland Heights area. And looking at the amount of food given compared to the price tag, I'd argue price to portion was just okay. The quality of the food was definitely there in all aspects of the bowl despite the lack of portion. For one, the noodles were thick and had a perfect amount of chew to them. They tasted of a subtle egg flavor which helped establish a savory baseline for the dish. The broth achieved a similar savory and umami flavor by combining the pork-based stock, a subtle miso powder, and what tasted like black garlic oil. And for last, the thinly sliced pork both added a creamy fatty flavor and a smokey charred flavor to the bowl. Combined together with the broth, everything tasted elevated and lighter on the mouth in result. The flavor was very impressive; definitely one of the best bowls of ramen I've had in the Greater LA area! Ajisen definitely serves up a hearty bowl of ramen. And with that, I would for sure be happy to return and try more of their different specialty items. But for this experience at the Rowland Heights location, I'd argue the Premium Pork Ramen deserves a solid 4 stars out of 5. Though there was nothing wrong with the taste of the food, the lack of pork in this particular bowl made it harder to justify from a price to portion standpoint. On the other hand though, Ajisen offers many different bowls of ramen, most giving just as much quantity if not more at a lower price point of 14-5 dollars. In all, Ajisen Ramen lives up to its historic origins and will definitely be earning a spot among ramen spots I frequent. Great flavors, Ajisen!

That said, seeing cooked shrimp, surf clam, and octopus as a significant part of the lineup was a little underwhelming for the price point -- these tend to be more budget-friendly selections, and I was hoping for at least a couple of premium fish to round things out. On the bright side, the fish was sliced to a generous thickness, the sushi rice had a great texture -- well-seasoned and not overpacked -- and every piece was beautifully presented. I did request ice for my takeout order and it wasn't included, which was a minor disappointment. The restaurant itself is a standout. Spacious, modern, and well-designed without feeling crowded. The menu is impressively large -- sushi, sashimi, rolls, ramen, and more -- so there's genuinely something for everyone. It's on the pricier side compared to neighborhood sushi spots, but it's a solid choice for a group dinner where you want a nicer atmosphere over a quick meal.

It's funny because this is a ramen restaurant, but the coffee is surprisingly good and perfectly matches my taste. One of the reasons I enjoy coming here so much is the atmosphere. You can often hear the staff speaking Japanese, which really adds to the authentic vibe and makes it feel like you're eating at a small ramen shop in Japan. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to.

In the Rowland Heights area, there is no shortage of spots for some delicious Japanese food. But…read morewhile many people see the volume izakayas and ramen shops, it's actually quite rare to stumble upon a traditional mom & pop spot that makes classic Japanese favorites. That's why I immediately came down to Tamaya when I noticed the laid back atmosphere, small storefront, and modest food offerings. Walking up on a Wednesday evening around 6:45PM, there was a line to eat in the small dining room. But we were seated relatively quickly. Looking at the menu, there were large variety of appetizers ranging from your chashu and takoyaki to tofu steaks and gyozas. But what I was interested in was the amount of different ramen options, curry plates, and don bowls. With so many choices, you're definitely in for more than your typical Japanese spot. For this visit, I decided to try their Meat Lover's Ramen which was $19.25 at the time of this review. And looking at the bowl, I was very pleased. For one, large chunks of beef, chicken, and chashu pork were all on the surface with some vegetables and cilantro. The noodles to ingredient ratio was pretty equal at about 50% noodles to 50% ingredients. And with a soup base that filled up to the top of the bowl, there was no justification needed for the $19 price tag. If you're looking for a ramen with mass quantity, Tamaya is definitely the spot for you! Taste-wise, the flavors did clash a little as the meats all had different flavors to them. But nonetheless, they all paired well with the rest of the ingredients. While the chunks of beef had a soy sauce undertone to them, the chashu was more sweet and fatty. The chicken tasted lightly stir-fried, but was chunky and filling. The noodles of this dish were softer, but tasted great with the creamy broth. And although the greens were garnishes, they tasted freshly washed and added some fresh flavors to the bowl of ramen. There are so many ramen shops in the San Gabriel Valley that get the hype from so many reviewers. And to that, Tamaya does just as good of a job at making a great ramen (if not better)! The place feels cozy and approachable for those looking to try different kinds of Japanese food, the prices for the food were very good in the Rowland Heights area, the food tasted delicious, and the offerings are very diverse compared to many other specialized places. Because of these offerings, Tamaya easily earns a 5/5 in my book and is a place I will return to again and again.
