I decided I must write it to alert others, considering the poor quality of the work and the high price of the service. I'm including photos, which were taken about 15 minutes after I left the salon. (Note the gobs of dark hair dye still in my ear and the dye smudged across my cheek and temple.) My stepson said to me: "I thought you had your hair dyed. There's still a ton of grey." I had asked for my hair to be dyed dark brown to match my natural color and cover my grey. I don't think my stylist covered my entire head with dye. I think she only covered some parts of my hair in dye. I'm not sure why. Yes, I certainly could have turned around the car and complained and had the salon fix their work. But is that my responsibility? For $119 (a single-process color, cut and blow dry), shouldn't we expect the salon to make sure the work is high quality before we leave the salon? We had a good relationship and she had encouraged me to come back if there was a problem with my hair. When I called after trying out something new with the coverage of my hair color, I received a message about their struggle to make me happy. She does have difficulty with Asian hair and coloring. Hayley also completely stood me up, and everyone in her shop one day, because she said she overslept after talking with her ex husband all night, and let her phone die. The two other workers in the salon that day could not find nor reach her or her mother on behalf of me and other clients. The degree of difficulty and time it takes to get coloring correct, standing up an client, and coming to me, asking me to fix her LAN because the printer wouldn't work.... I didn't charge her for this service. I'm earned an MSW but maybe she thought I was good with electronics because I am Asian, and how Main stream Americans view the Model Minority in America. I wonder if this is the reality I live in now as an Asian-American. Is this really how most Americans feel when discussing how political climates affect minorities? You find out how people really feel when you discuss Trump and how he has incited White racists to action. I'm so disappointed that in a progressive town like Sudbury where I have mixed race families, one of which is mine, all White owned businesses are still shocked to hear about racism against Asians and Jews in America. My daughter is part ethnically Jewish and Asian, and 100% American. At one moment, I paused and asked the owner, Hayley Mearan, daughter of Bonnie O., if I was making her or anyone uncomfortable and she laughed and said absolutely not. I asked if she minded me saying how I felt, the White owner lied and said if anything her closest friend and co-worker felt similar. Then when I was reinvited to return by email to make an appointment, I found out that they would not like my patronage at their business. So they either made a mistake or deliberately they did this to make known their racist feelings, hawking their supremacy over me and my comments. This is when the owner said she thought my remarks were 'racist,' [against Whites]. Racism is part of systematic power in our society. I am an Asian immigrant discussing the current political climate of the country. Social power is in the hands of White people (mostly White men), in this case the owner - mother and daughter. While searching around for local salons, I came across Hair Obsession, one of the few places in the area with a website (every business should have one these days). Because it was the one place I could find the most information on, I decided to give them a try. Being new to the area, I was just going to have to make a blind choice. I was given an appointment with Jenn, who is just wonderful. Friendly and personable, she's also quick and very skilled. She cut my hair exactly how I described the last few times I've gone, and I always leave loving the result. Hair Obsession is not expensive by any means. $25 will get you a wash, cut, and blow dry. I was paying $40 at my previous salon, so this is a great savings for me. The salon has recently been remodeled, so almost everything is brand new. Aside from hair services, they also offer waxing, facials, and nails.

I was looking…read morefor a new stylist, went in person prior to booking my first appointment, to discuss what I was looking for with a new style and foil. I have thin hair, it had grown out leaving 3 to 4 inches of natural regrowth ( light ashy brown). The length was close to my waist with older brassy blonde. Brandi was at the desk when I first went in to the salon to confirm a stylist could there could meet my hair needs. We both spoke of cutting my hair to right below my shoulders (at least 10 inches). I wanted thick fringe bangs and shorter layers throughout the crown for volume. I told Brandi I did not want longer layers, we also discussed wanting cool icy white/grey blonde that I did not want a color the was brassy. I also told her I was allergic to hair color and requested to not have the color touch my scalp. As I sat in her chair we both discussed my color allergies, I showed several pictures to clarify again what I was looking g for. Brandi went through the pictures, I again went through my likes and dislikes. I did not want brassy color, I wanted a full foil heavy to look like a full color and that I don't like chunky foils spaced far apart. I did not want long layers and wanted thick fringe curtain bangs with shorted bangs for volume. Brandi said she did not want to discuss "layers" she prefers saying movement, and that she had a plan and it would look amazing. As Brandi foiled my hair the crown had 6 foils the sides had 4 foils and I couldn't see the back but it was not a full foil. My hair will usually lighten between 7 or 8 minutes up to 15 minutes. Brandi left the bleach on for over an hour towards the end leaving me under the dryer for an additional 16 minutes. Prior to the foil Brandi cut off most of my length so not to color what would be cut off. After rising washing the bleach off I requested another inch off keeping my length right below my shoulders. Brandi again mentioning she had a plan for my hair ( she did have a plan to do her own thing which was everything I told her on two different occasions I did not want). She began to cut the thinnest bangs straight cross, you cannot see them and due to the extended amount of time she left the bleach on for my entire hairline is breaking off (several bangs pieces were broken while sitting in her chair). Brandi also needed to put a toner on due to seven foils not properly aligned with my scalp had lines of demarcation and towards the top of the hair shaft was orange unprocessed color. Brandi began to slide cutting long layers into my hair. She hastily slid her open shears throughout my hair creating long layers. After blow drying she provided me a hand mirror, once looking into the mirror I could see the bottom cut was completely uneven which included long and short lengths ( how you can cut 10 inches off and still not be able to cut straight across confuses me). In addition, Brandi and four other stylist openly spoke negatively about their "soul sucking clients" the clients that drain them one client always Noreen or Norma, right in front of me and two other clients. Can you imagine the lack of professionalism in front of a possible new client. While waiting to pay (I had a fraud alert come over my bank card, sitting on my phone with the bank to clear up the alert) Brandi actually reach to touch my hair and told me she saw the unevenness and longer pieces but advised me to go home look at the color with the different lighting and style it, she encouraged my return so she could use thinning shears in my thin hair the make the bottom (the not so straight line she cut) "sparse" actually to try and hide her mistakes without taking more length off. I was charged 240.00 and paid 40 something for purple shampoo and conditioner due to the brassy color and gave her a 50.00 dollar tip. As the owner she clearly should have scheduled me with someone else with more color knowledge, skillset, and professional ability. Brandi also sent me out trying to convince me she did what I wanted and gave me high quality services. Find another place or see her staff or daughter. Now I will pay double for a color correction and for a stylist to fix the hair cut due to the mistakes she made cutting my hair. The craziest is that she thought she could convince or gaslight me into believing she did a 200 plus color and cut after telling me to return to use thinning shears to hide her mistakes. However, I was a stylist for 15 years. Check the reviews and find another place she completely took my money knowing she did not deserve it. It's so gross! Two photos with the blacked out face is the brassy color after she washed the bleach off, two photos are the color and cuts I was hoping she was professional enough to make happen, and the another photo is the 6 chunks of fouls on the top of my head after washing four times with purple shampoo and conditioner.

Normally, I stick to what I know because I'm afraid of change. Let's just say, I no longer have to drive an hour each way because I finally found someone great in the area! I showed Maria a pic of the style and color I wanted and she gave just that (I wish I had a before pic). My color was fading into a brassy, orangey color and she toned it down for a more natural darker color with dimension. She cut about 4 inches off, gave me long layers with curtain bangs. My hair looks healthier, I feel more youthful, and everyone complimented my new do! Conversation was great and she made me feel comfortable and welcomed. She asked me a lot of questions and took the time to look closely at my hair before she started. Everyone at the salon was extremely kind. The salon is clean and beautiful. It is very clear that everyone there is knowledgable and professional. That being said, I really anticipated giving this salon an excellent review. I brought a picture of the color I was hoping to achieve. Unfortunately, after nearly four hours, my hair was no where near what I was hoping it would be. When I saw a friend later that evening she said, "I thought you were going to get your hair done today?" I'm not necessarily unhappy with the color, but it looks VERY similar to what I came into the salon with. My visit was also a lot more expensive than I anticipated. According the salon's website, the full cost of a haircut is $50 and the full cost of a full foil is $110. However, when they rung me up the total came to $225. I asked for one inch to be trimmed off and received a balayage. I understand that a balayage is not the same as foil highlights, but I wish I had been advised that this service would be a different price. I was expecting the total to be around $160 and only brought enough cash to leave a tip for that amount. I didn't question the price when I was checking out because my stylist was near the front desk, and I did not want her to think that I wasn't appreciative of her time and effort. She really did spend a lot of time with me and was very thorough, but my hair doesn't look much different. I think the toner made the most difference. In February, I visited a five-star rated salon in Nashua, NH. I received the same services, a cut and balayage for $140. I decided to try out this salon because there were so many great reviews online, and I thought that the prices seemed very fair, so I was a bit blindsided by the final price. Lastly, some of the bleach must have gotten on the chair because the shirt I wore to the salon has several spots of bleach on it. I had bought the shirt the day before my appointment, so I was pretty bummed. Overall, I can see why people like this salon. I wish I had a better experience because I really liked it here.

Looked great for a few…read moreweeks but even after following the directions/upkeep from the stylist, her hair started to frizz out again. We even stop washing her hair as often due to the instructions. Her hair isn't as bad as before but thought it would last longer especially with that expensive price tag. I asked about what products to use, not that I wanted to buy it, but when checking out, I was rang up for the products at full price. I didn't want to make a scene so I just purchased it. Asking shouldn't be an assumption that I wanted to buy. So using their product suggestions and instructions on how to maintain her hair, didn't work out as well as I thought.
