AJs bar I've been to this bar twice and twice I've been disappointed. I had high hopes because so many people speak highly of this place, not sure what they experienced but this wasn't true for me. My first experience was for a quick beer, ordered a beer on tap, nothing fancy and immediately knew something was off about the taste of the beer but I drank it and left upon completion. My second chance I decided to grab a drink and some food, but let me tell you was I disappointed... I again ordered the same beer as previously giving the benefit of the doubt and yet again it was flat and sour. I'll give credit to the bartended and server who by the way was the only worker in-site for the whole bar, who noticed I hadn't had my beer and offered another suggesting he knew the beer wasn't popular and had complaints before. Upon obtaining my second beer I took a sip and to my disgust was an indescribable green/brown blob. I wish I could tell you what it was but to my dismay I'm not sure if it was a bug, mold, or snot. I was so disgusted my stomach churned and wanted to throw up. My immediate thought was to ask for water but at that point I trusted nothing that didn't come from a sealed bottle. I ordered boneless wings, something so simple how can you screw up, I mean cmon I was expecting them to come from a bag frozen, but geez what did I receive... battered chicken cutlets cut into thin pieces that were so tough it was like jerky. The menus were made on excel and printed covered by the staples store plastic paper protectors, and the specials were written in sharpie on a paper and photo copied. Listen I don't mind this from a place undergoing a revamp, or to put on newly added menu items, but for a place that has been around a long time it's just plain embarrassing to not have actual menus. This place may have been a great bar at one time but it's clear to me the owners have given up as it's in dire need of updating, repairs and a total cleaning. read more

I would like to get more excited about a local watering hole/burger joint/sports bar. The location is on the main drag and unless super crowded, has convenient parking right in front. The two times I've been in the service has been friendly, and the burger and fries solid. Real 8oz beef patties, not the frozen hockey pucks. There are bigger burgers available if you want full artery clogging. The menu offers lots of comfort food and pub fare, and the prices are average, so there is no chance you will leave hungry. Where I fail to get excited is the small TVs, the somewhat outdated decor, the hardwood booths without seat cushions...it feels sorta like a town that has everyone moving out. The outdoor space looks promising for good weather days. It's OK for an occasional burger and a beer. read more

AJs had a recent renovation and the booths are now all the way to the wall and the main area seems bigger. They still have the great outdoor space along with a cool hanging lounger, a small fire pit and even more game machines. Can't believe I haven't reviewed AJ's yet. A real local hangout with better than average bar food. Sometimes I go for the burger, sometimes the wings. Service is always friendly, even when the place is jam packed. It is on the short list of places I go to watch the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets Jets on Sundays in the Fall. P.S. Great little spot with two burger sizes -- I went for the bigger one and it was probably the best I've had in the area. Beer was cold and service was friendly, and I was able to stick around and watch a game on the outdoor patio tv. Tap selection was good, with two local beers from Captain Lawrence (a personal favorite.) I didn't realize they even had a patio in the back, but it really is quite nice. I work from home and craved a burger for lunch. This place is fairly close, and I drove by it hundreds of times, so I figured I'll give it a shot. The inside looked pretty unappealing, but I didn't come here to socialize, I came here for food (some people on yelp raved about burgers). Got the bacon burger 12oz to go. When I got home, I opened the bag and got a whiff of cigarette smoke. Ok, I thought, it's a townie bar, don't write it off yet. The bun came separate from the patty, so that it doesn't soak up the juice and becomes soggy, which I thought was nice. Unfortunately the bread was pretty stale. I promptly got to burger making and plopped the patty and veggies on the bun. The burger and waffle fries were ok, nothing to write home about. If I had to describe it in one word, overpriced comes to mind. The one star review comes from the fact that half way through the burger I chomped on something hard. I spit it out and it seems there were tiny bits of green plastic in the patty! That cut my lunch short, will definitely avoid in the future read more

Burger was excellent, wife's Balboa was good though a little thin. Multiple choices on the Fries. Steak and Tatar were both good. The booths from now closed Murphys in Yorktown is a nice addition to ambience which is basically dive bar (not really a negative statement) that's a little loud for dining but looks fun for drinking. Service was bit slow, took long to get meal and we were only customers eating. Though have factor in the friendly waitress was apparently the cook, waitress and Bartender so not going to harp on slow service. read more

American cheese is NOT cheddar, yet the waitress insists that it might 'just be the brand", when I say again, this is not cheddar, she says the cook said it is cheddar. When I attempt to scrape the disgusting, too shiny, 'cheddar' off of my burger, she offers to bring me other cheese. She returns with two slices of real cheddar and offers to melt it on the burger. At this point, I doubt her and the kitchen staff and choose to not have it melted. I shouldn't have bothered. The burger was mealy, the too thin, single slice of bacon was tasteless. This bar has no redeeming qualities worth mentioning, and I won't be back here unless I get knocked out and dragged here against my will. Poor food, limited drink selection, and uncool environment. It's a local pub, so don't expect a French waiter in a tuxedo to greet you. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, the place is friendly, the bartender was as nice as I've ever experienced, and the pub-style menu is great. They really do have the best burgers in the area! I went with my husband and kids, early (6pm), on a Saturday night. Unsure if it was kid friendly, hubby went in first and did a walk-through. Although the set-up isn't meant for kids, they welcomed them graciously. Upon entering you can head to the left, booth seating or to the right, bar. I like that the booth seating is separated from the bar area, slightly, by a three-quarter wall. There are at least ten TVs mounted throughout the restaurant. The bar crowd was very loud...and that was perfect because I didn't have to tell my kids to keep it down. Really, the bar crowd was so loud, I don't think anyone even knew the kids were there. The menu offers your regular bar fare - we ordered Boneless Buffalo Bites, Potato Skins, AJ's Burger and a Bacon Cheeseburger along with two kid's burgers and a kid's chicken fingers. All of the food was delicious! You can choose between burger sizes - I chose the larger and it was HUGE! You can also choose your cheese. I really liked that the burger was served on a brioche bun instead of a regular ol' bun. I would only change adding the sauteed onions - they were a bit oily and didn't add anything to the burger. The kids loved their food. They gave us a choice of fries - steak, waffle, sweet potato or tater tots. We ordered the tater tots for the kids, hubby got the steak fries and I had the waffle fries. They were all good, fried crispy to perfection with no mushy sections. To add to having the best burgers, the price was right, too. With drinks and tip included it was about $15 pp. We will return, with friends and recommend you give it a try! read more

The service of this place sucks you'll be extremely lucky that you'll get your drink when you want it or your food that you order within the hour you order it. I put up with this for years but then after being a loyal customer for many years I was attacked by another patron struck in the liver and nearly died of internal bleeding and despite being the one who was assaulted I was banned from the bar because they liked him better. These actions were utterly unjustified and these people don't deserve to go unpunished. It's either because they like this kid more than they like me or they had to give up information on him but consider if you get seriously injured in this place they will immediately distance themselves from you and ban you from there establishment. read more

Amidst Covid, we needed a burger after the county opened for outdoor seating and well spaced dining. We couldn't have been happier. Claire, our friendly, clean, and conscientious server was friendly, adept, and on the money. The burgers were BRILLIANT, and the grill chef needs to be commended. One ordered medium, the other, medium rare, came to us exactly as ordered. The fries were crisp, fresh, and copious. The on tap beer (Stella, Guinness) were cold and perfect. First off the server couldn't care less about serving us and was a little rude when we first walked in. The food was alright at best my girlfriend and I had a soft pretzel, "SPECIAL" burger and a chicken quesadilla. The burger was dry with a mountain of onions on top and the pretzel looked like it was rolled out of the microwave and put on are table as for as the quesadilla it's was burnt on the sides but tolerable. We're pretty sure are server forgot about us having us wait 25 minutes just to take an order. The food came out slow as expected based on are experience so far and when we finished eating we had to get up and find her to ask for the check then we waited half an hour to get the check... this place should just be a bar and ditch the food all together read more

Worst experience, terrible food. I went there after working on a Saturday. I'm 25. I get done with a hard sale and want to go grab lunch and a beer to celebrate. I walk in and order a philly, mozz sticks, and a Heineken. She asks for Id so I say great and show her my Florida drivers license (since I just moved up and even my plates are FL). She says they don't take out of state IDs.. I kinda get the hint she thinks it's fake. I say ok I get it let me show you my passport which I have. She goes let me show my boss. I sit down and wait for my food and beer. She comes back with a crappy philly and says they can't serve me beer. I should have left then and there but I was hungry. The Philly was complete shit. Tried this place following Yelps advice and have been back a bunch of times since ! The people here are super nice and friendly. The beer selection is good, draft beer is nice and fresh and cold. The food is great too! Had the wings several times and I've never been disappointed. The burgers are yummy and if you hungry there's a big burger for a dollar more. Found this place on UrbanSpoon and heard they had the best burgers in town so I decided to give them a shot because it just so happened I was in the mood for a good burger. Went on a Monday evening, the atmosphere definitely left something to be desired, but I chalk that up to the day and time. The outside looks nice and they have a fire pit so I would imagine this place is popular on the weekends. As for the burger, it was very juicy and I like that they use quality beef that can be cooked to the rareness that I like and the steak fries were delicious. We went here for a late lunch n a Saturday with our almost 1 year old - my husband was dying for wings and we had heard good things about the wings here. It took a while to get seated, and the atmosphere was like a dive bar on a late Friday night. The waitress wasn't sure if they had a high chair or not (really??), and once we were seated they essentially forgot about us, over and over. The waitress took our order, and made her own executive decision that even though we put in for a full order of sweet potato fries for the three of us to share, she brought a half order, assuming that was all we would need because of the baby. He ate them all and we waited close to 20 minutes for her to come back to take our order, which took close to an hour to come out (and was just wings). The whole time we were there, the bar was full of drunk, rowdy, loud men who were yelling out profanities every minute or so. It was 2 pm on a Saturday! Eventually our waitress stopped coming back, and a man (the manager or owner, maybe??) was helping us, but still took a long time. We were there for over two hours!!! By the time we left, the waitress we had was over by the bar, snapping at a couple of the unruly drunken idiots for cursing so loudly because there was a family with a baby on the other side (a little late, at that point). The wings were decent, but not worth the wait or dealing with that atmosphere. I will literally never eat here again, and definitely don't recommend it unless you're looking for a dive full of drunk old men. read more
