Amazing food! The owner was very kind. As soon as we got there, he came out with truffles for each of us, which were so amazing! Fresh and chocolatey and wonderful. We had ordered our food in advance, and I read in some reviews that they had a gluten-free option for the bread. My partner got a tuna sandwich and I got the turkey sandwich gluten-free, which is served on an arepa. It was delicious, and the first gluten-free sandwich I have been able to get out since I stopped eating gluten almost a year ago. My partner loved his sandwich, and it was gone in minutes. The food is outstanding. We had the pesto ricotta gnocchi with a side of crab cakes, the chicken empanada, and the entree of short ribs. The gnocchi was soft and melted in our mouths the crab cakes were fluffy and nicely seared on both sides. The short ribs were a weekly special, so I don't know of it's availability in the future, they were especially tender and delicious. I had to request bread on the side to soak up the sauce. Currently, the store is not suited to serve parties larger than two. A great start before a trip to drinks at Bottle Logic. My only regret is not taking any pictures. I jumped off the plane in OC and wanted something quality for lunch. Yelp came to the rescue, directing us to Ake Larry, a wonderful hole in the wall cafe with scratch made food. I had the portobello sandwich and a spinach empanada- so fresh and tasty! The owner gave us a delicious almond blueberry bite when we walked in, and added an amazing aioli to go with the empanadas. The pastry was light and flaky, with just the right amount of filling. The focaccia is made on site and you can taste the quality. We were even comped a free dessert in return for our feedback and I have to say I've been thinking about that delicious dessert for days. The baked goods at Ake'Larry alone are enough of a reason to stop in considering the chef is a pastry chef who consults for Portos. The fresh pastas and sandwiches are just an added bonus and the service is outstanding. While there are only a handful of tables inside, we didn't have an issue grabbing a table and having our meal there, but if you live/work nearby you can always do a take out order too. I wish it hadn't been such a hot day because I wanted to try a pasta dish but I didnt' want a warm lunch on a warm day so I ordered a cold sandwich. Crab cake - We didn't order the crab cakes but the chef Larry brought it out for us to try as it was the special of the day which was really nice of him. the sauce included tobiko roe which brought a nice pop texture. And the crab cake was super light and not greasy. Shredded beef empanada - I enjoyed that it wasn't ground beef like usual bc the dough stayed nice and flaky and crispy and the beef was super flavorful. The aioli was also really delicious! Tuna melt - everything was made in house such as the bread and the pickled red onions. It wasn't heavy and was actually light and delicious. Fettuccine with Alfredo sauce - was presented so beautifully and the squid ink was a nice touch. Super delicious! The chef Larry and Vee were super welcoming and even explained every dish to us. This is a hidden gem! I needed to pickup a tester for work and was looking around this industrial area. Stumbled upon this and wanted to try it. So underrated! The focaccia bread was soft and slightly crispy on the outside. The pastrami bread was overall delicious and refreshing because of the veggies they use. Their empanadas was flaky on the outside but very soft and fluffy in the inside. I couldn't stop eating it and before you know it-they we're both gone. It was that good. I got the curry empanadas and spinach & ricotta. Desserts-I didn't expect much from their desserts but the Macarons, brownies, and mini muffins so was soft-it melted in my mouth. When I arrived I was a little surprised and second guessed myself based on the views from the parking lot and that it's across the street from a recycling center but I am so happy I stayed! Thank you for offering gluten free as an option. Make sure to call ahead so they can prepare the gluten free bread for you before you arrive whether you pick up or eat there. My boyfriend ordered the Tuna Melt and Beef Empanada. He loved it. We both enjoyed our meals. The location is easy to find I'm not sure why a review mentioned it was hard. Maybe because it's 20 min away, but it'd be worth a much longer drive! My friend and I split the portobello sandwich with added chicken and the spinach fettuccine with a combined marinara/alfredo sauce (chef Larry recommendation). He also gave us a complimentary Chocolate Mousse dessert..soooo delish!!! We took home some empanadas to eat with our leftover sandwich (the sandwich is huge). Craving empanadas and knew ahead this was a pick up/delivery option only. So I called ahead to grab lunch for 2 (they only open until 3pm). First time ordering I called in the order and asked if a salad (shared) and 2 empanadas each would be enough? Phone person said that the empanadas are really small so I ordered a total of 5 (3x shredded beef, their popular choice, and 2x curry chicken). Also got the roasted chicken salad, which she also said it may be too small to share. Pick up would be ready in about 10 minutes. Upon arrival, I had a very hard time finding the place. It's in an industrial lot space. No signs of the business name. I made several U turns before just finding the entry door based on the address and the unit#. For future reference, the location is on the corner of Blue Gum St and White Star Ave. Entrance into the parking lot on Blue Gum St. Indicator is the stand along "Sandwich" sign. A similar "Sandwich" sign is next to the entry door on Unit G. That's it. I didn't know I was in the right place until walking through those doors. The owner,Larry, was there and do I shared my experience and challenges finding the place. They are working on a permanent sign. Meanwhile he gave me a sample chocolate to try (and he also thrown in some other sweet samplers into my bag). The business is less than a year old and they are still working out the kinks. Once home, I split the salad which was plenty to share for two and I really liked all the different ingredients, the light dressing and tasted like a light Cobb salad which was so refreshing on a hot day! The empanadas were larger than I expected and for next time I honestly think 1-2 per person plus a shared salad was plenty. Empanadas were both good but I agree the shredded beef is the clear winner and though it came with a sauce, it really wasn't needed. I'm all about supporting small businesses and it's all about the food! From what I tasted, I definitely would give it 5 stars for taste, quality and innovation. Only reason I marked down a star was the challenge of finding the place! I'm showing pictures and hopefully help others find it easier until they get a permanent sign. read more

I forgot to take pictures due to being so hungry but we had two of their special-- the Duck Fat Chicken Confit and the Pork Tenderloin as well as their fettuccine in alfredo sauce. Incredibly tender meat for both while paired with potato mille-feuille. The pasta was fresh and soft. Today's desserts were a tiramisu and a fruit tart (that lasted long enough for a photo).
