Really great sushi selection here. I tried the Owasso roll and it was super tasty. So first off I went here because my husband wanted Sushi. I do not eat sushi but everyone around town recommended Akira, even my nail tech said this is the place to go. Luckily for me they have steak and chicken options, pork dumplings, and miso soup so I was golden. I wasn't too happy to be at the bar top in a short dress but the experience made up for it. My husband loved his food. I ordered teriyaki steak and fried rice. But kudos to our server. He was absolutely amazing and I cannot remember his name. He wore glasses and loved sports! We have eaten here almost weekly when we are in town for work for several years. Have been here many many times. Amazing experience and the owner is top notch. This visit not so great. Went for the usual sashimi, however after ordering was told they were out of all tuna and most salmon so we reordered. Was then told they were out of all the second order too. Paid for the salad and drinks and went to Olive Garden instead.....,service used to be great and extremely knowledgeable wait staff. This time nobody in charge of the ship. I may have got the wrong roll but it was just ok. The edamame was good and the jalapeño blossom was ok. I got the crunch roll and the Philadelphia roll and there were 10 pieces for each but the rolls were smaller than expected. They were about the diameter of a quarter. read more

Best sushi this California girl has found in Oklahoma! The fish was fresh. They don't over rice you like 'In the Raw' does. The atmosphere is great, which had a lot to do with our rad server. Wish I had his name to include in the review. They carry Kung Fu Girl Riesling! Which was a staple of mine in California and I had yet to find out here. You made me on very happy girl. Most rolls cost no more than $11 but there are a few that may be a couple of bucks more. This is my second time visiting & I had the Hanson Roll, which consists of fried shrimp, avocado, & cream cheese with imitation crab on the outside. It's a 10-piece & is only $8! They have many types of sushi to choose from, which will probably make you visit well more than once or twice. The place is real mellow, nice for groups & they do have a surrounding of televisions. They also have a bar where you can see the chefs make the sushi right in front of you as well (if you're into that). There aren't many sushi spots in this area so I recommend this place! read more

I love the house salad! I want to have that dressing at home. Went in for lunch today with hubby. We both picked 2 rolls. Only negative is a lot of rice on these rolls it made it very filling. Our favorite of the 4 rolls we picked was the Nimo Roll. I picked the sunshin roll and spicy tuna roll. I'll try other rolls next time we go. The Nimo roll was definitely the best. The food used to be super flavorful and good especially for the price. I recently ordered take-out there and it was very disappointing. I am unsure if the quality of the food was poor because they were closing in an hour after I placed my order and was just in a rush ready to leave. Also the gentlemen at the hostess stand was tall with dark hair wearing glasses he was extremely rude! I am most positive he was not a hostess. When I got home the chicken I had ordered was cooked well done (I did not request for it to be well done) I couldn't even eat it. I also ordered fried rice and the rice was basically bland white rice that was stale and cold. The sushi was the only thing that was eatable. I should've taken a photo but I had to toss the chicken and just eat the sushi. So I basically paid $30 for ten pieces of sushi because the other food was not eatable. Maybe this this just a bad night. I'm not sure but given the fact that the gentlemen at the front was extremely rude I probably won't be back. read more

Akira Sushi Bar, Setting in the shadow of a large Mexican restaurant is Akira. It's another place I have passed by many times and never gave it though because of where it sets in relationship to the other restaurants in the area. For the keen eye it can easily be picked out in the strip mall where it is located as it's store front somewhat melds with the boutiques that surround it. I don't frequent sushi houses very often, as I have taken the time read up on it and learn how to make it at home as a cost effective means to eat a lot of it when I'm in the mood. Tonight I was in the mood... for someone else to make it. This is what I ordered for review. * Ice tea no sugar. Their ice tea was fresh and not bitter served in a clear Hi-ball glass. * Starters: Miso soup and Jalapeño blossoms * Ring of Fire makimono from their special rolls list * Desert: Sliced orange half with a cherry (complimentary) I was seated at the bar in the middle of the restaurant where I could watch three young men prepare makimono rolls, shashimi and such with a great deal of skill. Each was friendly and appeared to enjoy their work together. The restaurant is dimly lit in most areas and only at the bar is there ample light to...read a newspaper without squinting. Their menu is extensive and descriptive, they even have a picture book for those who need to see what it is they are ordering before they order it. My server promptly took my drink order and delivered it while I washed up with a hot rag she delivered. Soon thereafter she brought out the miso soup. The Miso soup was ordered cup size and she delivered what I would call a generous sized cup of soup. The smell of fermented miso paste was evident, the dashi base was cloudy as such and contained bits of firm tofu, dried kelp (kombu), and chopped scallions (negi). This was a very good miso soup with traditional flavor. Highly recommend this soup. Next out was the Jalapeño blossoms, There were (4) four fresh jalapenos stuffed with crab meat, mayonnaise, and cream cheese, rolled in bread crumbs then fried. They were sliced diagonal through the center and placed within a scattered bed of baby arugula drizzled with eel sauce and spicy sauce. This made (8) eight pieces total. This is probably one of the best new appetizers I've had in a long time. I did not find them spicy or over cooked. They were very, very good and I truly hated to see the last one go. Ring of Fire... I like spicy food and I like makimono. This was a perfect blend of both. Served on a long plate and cut into (10) ten pieces. The inside of the roll contained: Tuna, salmon, cream cheese, fried shrimp, avocado, and eel sauce. The outside consisted of black tobiko (flying fish roe), red habanero masago (capelin roe), topped with a lobster salad, fresh jalapeno slice, cilantro, spicy sauce, and eel sauce. I ate these "one bite" with a little soy sauce and wasabi paste parted with the pickled ginger present. This was a super delicious roll and probably the most expensive rolls on their menu. With the ingredients and craftsmanship present in this roll and presentation it was a warranted price. It's really easy to get carried away monetarily at a sushi bar, especially if you bring, and are paying for multiple people. I did spent some time looking over their extensive menu and I found their prices to be really fair as compared to others. Their service was also better than exceptional. This experience was a treat to myself and what a treat it was. I know where I'm going for the next date night in Owasso. Go ahead and treat yourself to Akira, you'll enjoy it. Heard a local say this was place has great sushi "the best in the country" and so we gave it a go. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, albacore nigiri, seared pork dumplings, and miso soup. My wife ordered the sesame chicken. The spicy tuna roll had a sliver of tuna so small that I couldn't even taste it. The whole roll was cucumber. The nigiri was not albacore. I expect a really white, fatty piece of fish that just melts in your mind. This was anything but that. Super disappointing. The miso was even bland. My wife's sesame chicken however was great.
