Easily one of the brightest gems in the Tulsa area as far as Mexican food goes. Having lived in Texas and California, I know good Mexican food, whether it be Baja or Tex-Mex. The service is french style. I have never had a poor experience! The setting is very family-oriented, with pictures adorning every wall. Cracking up reading reviews from California complaining abt this place and quoting how they know real Mexican because they have had it in California. Hilarious. Guess they are experts not people from South Texas, New Mexico, or actual Mexico. I've had "Cali-"Mexican that Californians always claim as the real thing. It is good but different. If you want to get technical, you'd be hard pressed to find "authentic" Mexican food in America. Because we just would not eat it as often. Big spoiler. It's been quite a while since we visited El Fogon, probably since 2021. Mostly because they got sporadic of when they were open. When we went today, we were seated immediately. Everyone that works there is so sweet and really looks after their customers. The food was delicious! I especially love their salsa and beans! You can tell it's all freshly made. Such bright & light flavors. It appears that they either expanded the restuarant or remodeled it. It seemed less cramped & brighter. This is authentic Tex-Mex or Mexican food. They had tripe soup & a couple of other authentic dishes that are unusual to see offered. The food came out piping hot and fast, even at the noon hour rush. Nice, fresh salsas & good chips. Queso is a little boring & bland, but melted cheese is melted cheese, so how bad could it be? The Carne Asada was good. it could have been seasoned a little more, but it was very tender & juicy. The plate was quite short on pico de gallo & guacamole to fill tortillas provided though. The Trio Enchiladas were very good but typical of what can be found in most good Mexican places so they weren't a standout. No mixed drinks is a letdown. I really enjoy margaritas at dinner with Mexican food, so I can't say this will be a common choice in our future. Maybe an occasional lunch. We have been trying to make it to this place for years, but the short hours & closures made it hard to catch them open. We finally made it today. I am glad we satisfied our curiosity & found the service to be outstanding. This restaurant isn't really for us (hours & lacking mixed drinks), but for those who are just looking for good food, I would certainly recommend giving them a try. read more

After restoration and remodel.... Yes, the dining room is bigger and updated. The wood on the walls makes it seem more modern yet homey. We went on a Saturday night and went a bit early to miss the crowds. By the time we left, people were waiting out front on the benches. Service is good but we were in the back corner and it took a while for our chips and drinks to be refilled. Again, it was a very busy night. Steak fajitas were good but needed more tortillas. The verde chimichanga was really delicious---more baked and not fried (which is good). The pork inside was tender and I love the verde sauce. We also tried the queso which was rich without being cloying. Two salsas come with the chips---one is very fresh and mild tasting; the other is a bit spicier. The food tasted as good as it looks!! A cold blustery February day demanded a good hot plate of Chili Verde. This was our second visit to El Fogon. This little family owned Mexican restaurant continues to excel in food quality and service! A couple of years ago, we ate here a straight up 12 noon. The place was packed. What was noticeable then was that El Fogon is staffed sufficiently to crank out their tasty food for the big lunch time crowd. We had the Carne Asada and the Green Chili Burrito. Both excellent! Today's visit was the Chili Verdi and an Enchilada & Chile Relleno Combo plate from their dinner menu. The Chile Verde was a large plate of filling, warming, delicious authentic chopped pork stew in a fire-roasted green tomatillo sauce. The huge combo plate was one ground beef stuffed enchilada topped with white sauce and one poblano pepper filled with cheese & topped with tomato ranchera sauce. Both meals came with rice and beans. Very flavorful, nothing bland on these plates! The salsas here are very good too. The red tomato based salsa has a little bite to it from the peppers, with garlic, chili powder and cilantro. The other sauce is a roasted pepper/tomatillo. Enjoyed them both. The service here is very good. The restaurant's motto is "Everyone is Your Server." They are true to their motto. This place is very unassuming From outside. Inside is clean as a pen. Lots of cars when I pulled up. Gotta be one of the best Mexican food places I've ever eaten in. Their hot salsa is great. Hot but not too hot. I had the Mexico City beef and chicken tacos. As good as any of the best taco places I ate in out in Phoenix a couple Of years ago. Probably better. The spicy pork was definitely my favorite. So much flavor and quality. We even ate the whole pepper and all. We also ordered cheese dip and the meal came with chips and salsa. In a town infested with Mexican food places, El Fogon is a nice change. We have become regulars, and even my picky 11 yr old makes this her place of choice when we eat out. The place is small, to be sure, but wait times aren't usually a problem. The salsas are great, especially the roasted pepper version. Wish they'd serve that one warmed up, but that's not a deal breaker at all. The queso is very good, with a nice flavor and texture... not too watery, not too thick. We've had several items from the menu, and have yet to be disappointed. The Chile Verde is particularly good, and if you've read my reviews, you know that's sort of a litmus test for me with Mexican places. Service is always great.... staff are friendly and on point. Prices are much more reasonable for better food than places like Los Cabos and Ted's. You're not paying for garnish and frills at El Fogon... just good, solid food. read more

Came here for a brother and sister lunch. My brother got the Menudo while I got the Super Burrito. The Menudo was a great choice, especially since they only offer it on the weekends. My brother has been craving for Menudo and said it completely satisfied him. However, for my burrito I was very disappointed. On the menu it states that rice and beans come inside and are optional, as well as choosing what kind of meat you would like. It didn't state that rice and beans were the only thing that would be in the burrito along with your meat.
