We ordered the Combo Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice, Garlic Shrimp, Monster Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll & the Dragon Roll. Both fried rice dishes were delicious & seasoned very well; I'm picky because I do not like my fried rice oily. The Garic Shrimp was also delicious & plenty of garlic taste. I've been a loyal customer of Akita Hibachi and Sushi for over 10 years, but unfortunately this experience has brought that loyalty to an end due to consistent poor service and ineffective management. On this visit, the restaurant was completely empty. I had ordered carryout ahead of time because I was limited on time. When I arrived, I asked to eat my order at the bar and was told I could not--despite there being no customers, no wait, and plenty of open seating. There was no attempt to accommodate, explain reasonably, or offer a solution. Just a flat refusal. After a decade of patronage, this level of inflexibility and disregard for customers is unacceptable. Good food alone isn't enough to make up for horrible service and poor management decisions. Longtime customers deserve better. read more

The steak was ok, fried rice had tiny bits of egg and chicken, no veggies. I had to add soy sauce and sriracha to give food some seasoning as it seemed to lack it. I'm not a fan of habachis in general, but I thought this one was pretty good. We had a Monster Roll from the sushi menu and ordered the rest of our food from the habachi menu. One interesting substitute that this place has that I haven't seen is substituting steam rice for chicken friend rice. Usually it's just plain fried rice. We recently went to Akita. The parking lot was full and the reviews were "ok". We walked in and it was just as packed as the parking lot. There was about a 20 min wait. No problem. There was an issue in the bar area and the manager on duty and the hosts showed their displeasure (rolling eyes, laughing). It was all due to a tip being added to the tab for a party of 2. I can understand the added tip as some see these types of restaurants as buffet. We were sat in the corner with a small family. We had a party of 5 ourself, so it worked out. The hibachi cooks were not as theatrical as you might to see in this setting. That was ok. The food was average. Service was average. For our party of 5 (few bar beverages included) and me only having veggie rice, the total was $225. We tried it. Check it off the list. Most likely won't be back. Group feedback here. Come with my mom for my birthday and we were seated immediately. Eventually our table filled up with others celebrating as well. I ordered a liquid MJ to drink and this was a very tasty drink. For dinner, my mom and I ordered the house deluxe for two add fried rice (which is an up-charge). This is a typical hibachi spot and the food is cooked on a large flat top grill. Overall, it was an ok experience but I did experience heartburn for the next day or so.. so be weary of all the butter, etc.! read more

Akita Hibachi & Sushi Grill is one of my favorites in Cedar Hill. Every time I go, my experience is always great. I usually go during lunch, my wait time is always short, the service is quick, and most importantly the food is so good. I've been able to try their chicken, steak, shrimp, and veggie hibachi, salad, soup, and shrimp and veggie tempura and I love it all. So I came here for the first time with my friends and everything was going well, food was amazing service was pretty good. But it wasn't until I started to notice water leaking from the ceiling, I looked up and saw it was super moldy. I was wondering why I was feeling weird like I couldn't breathe very well. So I asked to speak to a manager, and when I did I let him know about the leak and he said " oh yea I know " and then he proceeded to point at another leak and say " there's one too" I told him I was concerned about getting sick and also for other people he didn't care all he said was if you get sick just call the restaurant. I told him to get the thing fixed it's leaking all over an eating area MOLD WATER. This is hazardous and should be attended right away. If anything can help me take this further contact me. The automatic $28 gratuity for a family of 5 is not good, our waiter gave me another guys drink who was sitting nearby and I drank from his used straw before realizing it was a different drink. This is a big problem and very upsetting. The food was good but the waiter really messed our night up and still got an automatic tip according to the receipt. read more

Had a great unexpected visit today right before happy hour ended! My wonderful server made sure to ask all I was interested in getting off of the happy hour menu to be sure to take advantage of it. And sure enough, I was able to have a tiny bit of so much! Everything was reasonably priced. You'll see there are great options on the HH menu; on both the drink and food parts. The portions were also great for happy hour sizes. On this particular visit, my guest and I nibbled on the spicy basil wings, edamame, California roll, shrimp crunch roll, and salmon skin roll. My faves were the California and shrimp roll. We also enjoyed a cosmo and margarita. Definitely a great casual happy hour vibe. There are hibachi seating options. I like that you can choose either or and make the experience as casual or fancy as you'd like. I appreciated the great service and minimal wait. Looking forward to going again soon! read more

Personally I feel like it's slightly a downgrade from Benihana's. Pretty sure any Hibachi style restaurant is going to give me that vibe , and It could really just be the fact that I've been knowing and eating at Benihana's since I was in High School so any restaurant now similar will almost always be compared to my first hibachi experience (Benihana's). However, I really like Akita As well. We've gone a couple of times and have never had to worry about the antagonizing long waits , I also like that it's close in distance to where I live. My kids enjoy watching the food being prepared in front of them and the cute little tricks that they do with fire etc . Like many times before we enjoyed our meals and appreciated the entertainment as well . I did have one issue , Which I chose not to make a huge deal about . There were egg shells in my rice. But other than that , all was good and we will be back soon. read more

Delicious local restaurant, staff always does a good job. Best to dine in, the hibachi steak meal is some of the best steak I've ever had and I crave it all the time. Potstickers are also some of the best! I opt to go here over benihani anymore. read more

Service was absolutely horrible. The waitress was nice but very forgetful. I ordered an onion soup during my meal and it was never brought to me. Also my tea was not refilled and one of her coworkers saw the slack and filled it for me. I also asked for the bill and it took 15 minutes for it to arrive. Dined in and had dinner with my son, only for our waitress to be rude! (older lady) It started when my son stated that he didn't want any veggies, and I said that I'd take his veggies since they come with the entree. The waitress had an issue with that, as if she didn't want me to have the extra veggies that I was paying for! As we were wrapping things up, she brought our check, I paid with my card but wasn't going to tip on my card. I was going to tip her with cash. When she saw $0 on the receipt, she stood there and asked that I tip her because they work for tips. I looked at her and explained that I was going to tip her with cash, but since she embarrassed me in front of everyone at our table and acted entitled by asking for a tip, I decided not to leave a tip. Being Saturday night thanksgiving weekend surprisingly we didn't have to wait to get a table. Our Greeter was polite and welcoming. Flavor and portions were on point and commendable. We were a party of 5, my wife and I ordered chicken and NY steak with fried rice and soup as part of the hibachi dinner. A must try that we had were monster roll (with spicy mayo ), rock & roll and Ahi Tower. I would highly recommend both Ahi tower and monster roll. Usually chefs put on a good show portraying both humor and skills making the whole experience fun and entertaining however, the chef we had was rather quite and we just got to see the basic onion volcano flames. We have been coming to Akita for a while! Everything always taste delicious and fresh, we always order sushi whenever we order hibachi whether we order to go, or dine in. Annoying they are closed Tuesdays but good food overall. My only issues have been with long wait times to pick up my Togo orders bc they only have one person working Togo meanwhile waitresses and waiters stand around. For instance i went yesterday (ordered online) and had it ready to be picked up 30 min after they opened. Got there to an emptyish restaurant. One hibachi table and 2 tables occupied by bar area. Meanwhile there was 10 of us waiting at the door on Togo orders. Other servers would come and deliver food but wouldn't help the Togo server with getting orders out. Meanwhile the Togo girl was taking an order and answering the phones ANDDDD distributing our food! I probably should've searched first but I was hungry and the fact I was really wanting Mediterranean but they were take out only might have influenced my taste buds however where is the flavor? Now mind you I'm a recent Bariatric patient so yes things taste slightly different for me sometimes but thankfully I can tolerate heat because I had to use siracha mixed with the brown sauce and soy to eat my food & minus the yum yum sauce (that tasted like ranch to me...super weird) but the chef was amazing superb to be exact & I wish I would've gotten his name. I visited Akita Hibachi with my family on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy and we were greeted and seated right away. Service was fast and friendly. I ordered yaki udon noodles which surprisingly came with shrimp, chicken, and steak. The noodles were yummy, thick, and salty. They were generous with the meat portions but they were nothing special. Shrimp felt a little rubbery, overcooked. Chicken and steak were decent. My sister and brother-in-law ordered shrimp fried rice and a few sushi rolls. The fried rice was bland. They too were satisfied but said they've had better. Overall decent dining experience but nothing too memorable. Our hunger was satisfied! If we're in the area again, we may give the Hibachi a try. read more

I actually used to really like this place but the customer service has dramatically dropped in the last year or so. There is a difference in how certain races are treated (some people have IDs AND payment methods verified before being given to-go food and some people do not endure this to get their to-go food). I watched a white woman NOT go through the same crap I did for the to-go food from outside the restaurant. I also dined in a few weeks ago and noticed I got ZERO utensils for my sushi (not a chopstick nor a fork). I do not care that this restaurant is in a southern part of town does not mean that preconceived notions, true, semi-true, or false, should be brought to light by the restaurant's actions or lack thereof.
