Al & Ernie's is a must if you're in Battle Ground! My favorite item of theirs is the cinnamon roll. It's one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had! I tried the s'mores one this past weekend and I definitely prefer the original cinnamon roll. The Marion berry one is a good option if you want some berry flavor with the traditional cream cheese frosting. This past visit I also tried the ricotta hash brown bake. It had a lot of flavor and I loved it. I would get this again. I also really enjoyed their hot mocha. It wasn't too sweet but still had the chocolatey flavor. This past visit was the first time I tried their danish. I had the blueberry lemon one and it was great. I also like to get their bagels. Next time, I want to try their quiche. My boyfriend works in battleground & someone had brought scones in & he brought some home. So finally, I had to go & see what else they offered. We walked in & they were busy. Line was pretty long, but it moved pretty quickly. Everything in the case looked delicious. I went with the cinnamonroll, Nutella cornetto, & the gluten free earl Grey scones. The scone was amazing. Very light, with a good earl great flavor. Youd never know it was gluten free. The cinnamonroll was nice & moist. Cornetto was crispy filled with Nutella inside. Stop in if your in the area. This is an interesting little cafe. The staff was super friendly when we came in. The place is far bigger inside than it looks. We got in line and were politely greeted by an employee who gave us the skinny on the layout. We ordered a couple of cinnamon rolls, one gluten free and one espresso. Both were beautifully baked and the frostings were delicious. The espresso roll had the perfect hint of espresso flavor, just enough to dial this roll up a notch. The coffees were ready a couple minutes later. They were decent, pretty mild on flavor. We did stay and eat. I wouldn't recommend this for peaceful conversation. The buzzers they give out to let you know when your coffee is done are annoyingly loud and are constantly going off. We had to switch to to-go cups to escape the pinging. Hands down one of the best local bakery in Clark county! Came here on Saturday morning and already busy but line went quick. Pricing was excellent - Service too! Lots of sweet & salty options. I loved the Marion Berry Cinnamon Roll, Ricotta Hasbrown Bake, Chocolate Chip Cookie (Which tasted like a salted chocolate chip cookie), Epi Baguette (which you can tear chunks and won't dry out as quickly).... Love this Bakery!! It's my Favorite- we recently moved back to Washington after residing in Arizona for 20 years. This little gem reminds me of a favorite there- so many delicious treats it's difficult to choose. Love the maple goodies that make a maple bar hold its head in shame. Stopped in with a friend for breakfast on a Wednesday morning around 9am. No line and only a handful of tables occupied. Based on other reviews, we came at the perfect time! Employees were friendly and helpful. In addition to breakfast, we purchase a few baked goods to take home. I ordered the bagel breakfast sandwich on an Everything bagel with chive cream cheese and bacon. It was delicious! My friend enjoyed hers as well. The restaurant was clean and I really like how they have different table areas. I think it helps cut down on the noise when it's super busy. Parking can be challenging since it's street parking. Seems like a really good bakery. All the wonderful bakery items like scones, cinnamon rolls and bagels in the window is so tempting. I got another 1/2 order (which is one biscuit and a little bit of gravy). This is my second time here and I pretty much got the same thing except last time I think I got a full order of biscuits and gravy. So when I mean that they give you a little bit of gravy, I mean just that. I barely got enough to cover my cut in half biscuit. This happened to me the first time I went there. I do not understand why they can't give you more gravy with biscuits and gravy.. I think they think it might be gold or something. It would be really nice to at least have enough gravy to have with each bite of your biscuit but that was not the case today or even the first time I went there a couple months ago. Oh well. The gravy is really nothing to brag about. It's a sausage gravy with really no taste to it at all. I will think twice before I order that again from there. But maybe next time I will try one of those huge and what looks very delicious cinnamon rolls. read more

The hash brown bake was loaded with ham, ricotta, peppers, and onions. The Americano was perfect. Busy so be prepared for a line, but it's worth it. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Can I give 6 stars? 10 stars? I wish I could eat here every morning. The atmosphere is beautiful, spacious, and clean, filled with lovely and friendly people who all feel like you know them already. Even though it was PACKED the line went quick, and we actually got a table through I doubted we'd be able to. The macchiato was amazing and strong, with incredible foam. The pistachio cream filled cornetto was DIVINE. And it wasn't too sweet. Do you realize how hard it is to find a sweet that's not too sweet? With loads of the perfectly balanced filling too. Unfortunately, I am not a local I am from Boston and I spend a month out in battleground every summer. This past summer, I finally got to try. Al & Ernie's bakery Café. And all I can say is this place is absolutely divine and fantastic. The atmosphere is like no other everyone that works there is beyond friendly and helpful when it comes to trying to decide which of their many delicious treats to get. Their coffees are amazing. And their food is above and beyond. I had a pistachio croissant, which was so airy light in that delicious creamy pistachio filling was just the right balance, I also tried their strawberry cream croissant, and that reminded me of a strawberry shortcake, their regular chocolate croissants are also a must try if you like chocolate and finally, I had tried their pesto pasta salad after trying that I think I went back about seven or eight times just to get that the pasta almost taste like it was homemade and fresh. The pesto was out of this world and all the lettuce and tomatoes you could tell were freshly picked or freshly bought. I cannot recommend this place enough. I know when I go back next summer I will pretty much be living in there so I can try one of every single item they have because it is that good. The quality is just perfection. read more

I just recently tried Al & Ernie's and I strongly recommend you do too if you haven't already! The service is always great too. This spot is pretty busy all the time, so prepare for a potential bit of a wait, but it's worth it! Other than that, the parking situation can be a little tough too (especially on weekends!) so plan accordingly! The vibe is casual and the space is nice and open and you don't feel like you're cramped in there which is great. If you go, anything you try I'm sure you'll like! You know how when you see something, your brain already fills in what you think it's going to taste like? Everything here has always exceeded my brain's expectations. Which means that everything I have ever eaten or drank here has been better than I imagined. Everything is so fresh and delicious. Always. The espresso is pulled perfectly and I just keep thinking to myself that we are so lucky to have this little gem in our area. The people who work here are so friendly. You can see how busy it is. You can see the line is long and the work is unrelenting, but each and every person on staff gives you all of their attention and it makes it worth the wait. I have been here several times and every time I hear the people around me commenting about the vibe of Al & Ernie's being so on point. It's hip, but down to earth. Edit: A bunch of cowards complained about this review trying to force it to be taken down. I removed the mention of the OPB article so hoping that stops your tears, you giant and soft babies. The food here is bad and here is why. Breakfast sandwiches: I remember loving the first sandwich I tried, but each subsequent sandwich I ordered was a bit worse until I could no longer stand them. The main issue is salt. I'm not one to mind a little too much salt, but the final sandwich was nearly inedible due to the salt content. Cronuts: And again, I remember enjoying these initially. Pretty sure we most often got the nutellaesque ones. But again it just seemed like the quality dropped, in particular the filling. On my last and final one, it left a waxy feeling which from what I understand...indicates the use of vegetable shortening (Crisco) instead of butter. I'm not reviewing the random cookies and wrapped treats as I assume they're not made on premise, rotate, and to me there is no expectation of quality if you're buying wrapped baked goods. I was torn between 1 or 2 stars, and started this on 2 but I have to go with a 1. I'm sure the people are nice and eating in has a solid ambiance based on the other reviews, but strictly based on taste...it's a 1. McDonald's is more palatable and cheaper. I recommend Devs just a few blocks down Main Street for breakfast sandwiches. You'll have to leave BG for solid baked goods, unfortunately. read more

Enjoyed our food- great ham baguette & cinnamon rolls! While in line to order, you can get your items heated- but the line takes a long time to pay for your order, so your food ends up cold again. We really did not like the suggestion of leaving a tip! You move through a cafeteria style line, pick up coffee orders at the counter and also bus your own table. A very warm and inviting greeting started out visit out well. Drip coffee (that's me!) is self serve and the barista offers some hand crafted beverages. My dining partner, who is a world renowned latte enthusiast declared "this is the best latte I've ever had!" which is really saying something. My coffee was good. We shared a half order of biscuits and gravy, a cinnamon roll, and a breakfast sandwich with bacon made on an everything bagel. A half order of the biscuits and gravy was a large serving and the biscuit was spectacular. The gravy was full of sausage, not like that white gravy made with "essence" of sausage. The cinnamon roll was absolute perfection. I would, and probably will, make the nearly 50 mile round-trip here just for the cinnamon roll. The breakfast sandwich was tasty, and had the perfect amount of herb cream cheese on it. I will say that the everything bagel had a very generous amount of kosher salt on it, which doesn't make me mad, but won't be to everyone's liking, I'm sure. People in here look at you like you're insane if you so much as have a nose piercing, it's absurd. You should probably think about hiring some more welcoming staff. My first trip to Al & Ernie's Bakery Cafe was a touching experience. Mostly because it made me miss the old Al & Ernie's Grocery store so much it almost felt like a small personal loss. We ordered coffee that was about as good as what I make at home every morning. The only real difference was the price, which was roughly five times higher. It is comforting to know my kitchen apparently runs a premium café now. Then came the bagels. Calling them bagels almost feels generous. These things had the structural integrity of replacement bricks for a fireplace. If the café ever decides to diversify into construction materials, they are already halfway there. The muffin was actually pretty good. Not "best muffin I have ever had" good, but definitely "best muffin I have ever had at this particular price" good, which I assume is the category they were going for. The chocolate croissant was just okay, although it did manage to upset my wife's stomach, which really added a memorable touch to the visit. Needless to say, we will probably never visit again. At this point it just feels like one more annoying traffic jam on Grace Ave, except this one charges you for coffee and hands you masonry disguised as breakfast. read more
