All right. Here we go Venetian food. This was recommended to me by friend here who grew up in Venice. Black ink squid pasta delicious with fried mixed fish is called fruttas. I think that's how it's spelled. It is calamari. Sardines shrimp squid very good and they do a version their version of hot water. Cornbread it's just fried cornbread it's good and the spritz is the key. The spread is a drink that they drink before meals is supposed to get your appetite going. It is great and then white wine after they do a lot of white wine. The service is great. I didn't make reservations. I just felt like I'm going to get there. As soon as they open they'll see me and they did. The ambiance is perfect! Cecilable your far enough away where you don't pump elbows or anything like that. I really enjoyed the filet with mustard sauce I had at AL Bacareto in the Fall. When I knew I would be in Venezia for carnivale I made a lunch reservation immediately as I had been dreaming of that filet . Today's lunch was a total let down . I ordered the same filet and even showed them a photo to make sure it was still the same one . The filet they presented was with a completely different sauce . Look at my photos of the steak from the fall and today . When I asked the manager about it he simply said it was a different day, a different cook. I had to laugh at myself because this experience seems totally Italian but it did suck to pay the price tag of a steak I didn't finish . I don't recommend this restaurant because clearly the kitchen lacks consistency. I won't be returning. read more

Venice isn't particularly renowned for its culinary scene as other Italian cities are, but of all the places I dined at during my most recent visit to Venezia, Al Bacareto was my favorite. It came highly recommended by our AirBnb host and it was a mere two minute walk from where we were staying in the San Marco neighborhood. We didn't have a reservation and the place was packed when we walked in but the staff was nice enough to seat us in one of their back rooms by their dessert stand. By Italian standards, the service was very quick (and friendly!) My sister and I shared a primi serving of spaghetti with a beef sauce and for our main we shared a filet of beef with a peppercorn mustard sauce after we spotted another diner eating this dish and thought it looked delicious! And it was a good call... the beef was tender and the sauce was a unique tangy and spicy flavor all in one. I've never tasted anything quite like it and have been trying to figure out how to recreate it here in the states ever since. When our waitress brought our tab we were pleasantly surprised when she also presented us with a complimentary shot of limencello inside a chocolate cup. It was a nice end to a nice meal (and the limoncello and chocolate were tasty too!) If you're in the area, Al Bacareto is a winner and should be on your "to-try" list. read more

My dear friend's family restaurant. Pleasant welcome on arrival followed by a refreshing Aperol Spritz. Italy is so civilised, cicchetti accompanies your drink. I had the black squid ink spaghetti & a glass or 2 of prosseco my dessert was a mystery treat & so yummy. Of course there's outside seating, 2 small bar areas just before the main dining areas to the back. I'm slightly biased but the service I received & saw was great. Always felt welcome & cosy. If you'd like to feel like family, go here. The service was a little slow but they made up for it with the genuinely warm personalities of the wait staff. Our wonderful server made the kids get off their phones so we could have a family meal and had fun engaging with the kids all night. The food was delicious, the spaghetti with meat sauce tasted like a bolognese and my kids loved it. Al Bacareto - Bars Near Me - Venezia, VE

Today we had a meal of three pasta dishes. One of them was ravioli filled with cheese and topped with a bolognese sauce, the bolognese sauce was excessively salty and had be washed down with half a liter of water. The second dish was a spaghetti and bolognese sauce. The sauce, again, was extremely salty and pretty hard to swallow. The third dish on the other hand was pasta with eggplant and tomato sauce. The eggplant was excellently cooked and was cut up into small slices, surprisingly it went very well with the pasta and sauce. Overall our lunch was a 3.5 stars. We also had as and entré a mix of fried fish, balls of rice, balls of meat, omelette etc... The entré gets a 5 stars out of 5! read more

Surprisingly, perhaps, Venice isn't renowned as the easiest place in Italy to find great tasting food. If that's what you're after rather than tourist-geared fare, you need look no further... This family-run restaurant is so friendly and welcoming, from the moment you walk in, no matter how busy (and it is extremely popular with the locals and visitors alike). If you want a quick snack and a drink, simply stand at the bar and point and smile at whatever takes your fancy (perhaps even the waiter - just joking...) They will appreciate your effort and try to understand, however basic your Italian conversation. The food is true to its origins and very regional. Prosecco is typically the bar drink (ombra) of choice to accompany your snacks (cicchetti). The salt cod is fabulous. If you're unsure of what else to try they will offer suggestions and tastes. For something more substantial, don't hesitate to go for the Pasta e Fagioli (pasta and bean soup). This regional northern Italian fare is thick, warming, heartily delicious and ideal if you are exploring Venice out-of-season in the cold winter months. Even if you're pretty hungry, you'll probably be satisfied with that and the good local bread, perhaps followed by a light dessert. Beyond rude - wouldn't eat here under any circumstances. We were seated outside after being grilled on making sure we were ordering food. We said yes three times. We wanted two beers and no water - this was a problem too - they asked why no water - they obviously want you to buy water too. Then we ordered a pizza and they laughed at us! Told us no pizza then grabbed the menu of all the pizzas fand said sorry no. Never seen anything like it. Too many good restaurants in Venice to even bother thinking about this one. read more

The food here is amazing! The best calamari we've ever had and the chicken cutlets were excellent. Also the very best lasagna. We all raved about the food for 3 days and every other restaurant was compared to it. It was so delicious we went back a second night during our 4 night stay. They also served this amazing lemoncello in chocolate dessert cups with the check which made the higher prices and service fees of Europe more swallowable. Unfortunately, we found their wait staff to be less than pleasant and very cold. It wasn't just to us, as you wonder if it is a tourist/American thing. We were profusely appreciative of the food and told them we had recommended them to other tourists we had talked to so it wasn't us. The second night we had to ask for the check 4 times and it took 20 additional minutes. When you are an exhausted tourist with a full belly, nothing ruins an experience more than begging to pay for it so you can go home and relax. If they improved their service, it would have been a 5 star rating both times. Really...I recommend the food. So good! read more

We had a hard time finding good food in Venice, and fell over this restaurant. We both had pasta. I had one with mussels, which was good but a bit boring. My company had the pasta with squid. It was okey, but not much more. All in all, was it okey. And since the majority of the meals we got in restaurants in Venice were worse than okey, okey is a good grade here. read more

This was definitely the most disappointing eating experience I had in Venice. Not only is the food exorbitantly overpriced, the preparation was lousy, the service was crappy and the portions were paltry. We paid the equivalent of $65 US dollars for a meal that would've cost less than $20 at home. I could not believe that these people have the nerve to charge what they did for the garbage they set before us. Be warned. read more

My wife and I had dinner here during one of our nights in Venice. After 6 days in both Rome and Venice, we joked that we couldn't have a bad meal. Well, we jinxed ourselves...the spaghetti tasted like it was from a box and much of the seafood didn't seem fresh. She had the squid ink pasta and I had the mixed seafood pasta. The house wine was also disappointing. As Americans, most foreign cuisine outweighs anything back home, that was not the case for this meal. read more

Good, wholesome, genuine quality food. My wife had the spaghetti vongole, done to perfection in a basic olive oil, garlic and parsley sauce and i had the roasted sole which was smokey, charred and cooked perfectly. The evening was finished with a tiramisu like none other that I've had. Definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

This restaurant is close to a bustling square full of very touristy eating and drinking spots. We chose this place because it was down a charming corridor and seemed rather quaint and not like the nearby tourist traps. We arrived at about 6pm and there were a few people sitting outside and not one single person sitting inside and there had to be at least 25 tables or more in the dining hall. We nicely asked if we could sit inside and the guy behind the counter asked if we had a reservation. When I said no, he dramatically exhaled loudly, rolled his eyes, and then said something to under his breath to a coworker and they both looked at us and laughed. We should have left then. He barked, "wait over there" and gestured to stand against a wall. Again, not one single person inside. After a couple minutes, that same guy said something to a young woman who lead us to a table in the very back right next to the bathroom and under the toilet sign. At that point we just simply said no and walked out. I can't speak to the food but the attitude stunk. read more
