Local family business which I appreciate. Food was nothing to write home about. Unfortunately I have been physically attacked by a local Italian person dining at the restaurant, which was part of a group who was very vocal, telling us to "go back where we came from" . The restaurant staff was supporting the group (as apparently they know each other), and has shown no support to me or my group - which makes them at least complicit. After this I believe that tourists do not feel welcome there - which I also read in other reviews. That was very unfortunate, considering I lived in the area and come to Venice often. This is one of my go to restaurants every time I come to Venice. Wonderful traditional Venetian food and an excellent wine list. One of the waiters has been here since the 70s. Needless to say full of tradition absolutely worth the stop. They open late. You may be one of the few non-Venetians in there, but we were given excellent service, and felt completely welcomed. read more

Hands down the best restaurant we ate at on our entire trip. If only we had known this place existed earlier, we might have been able to escape some of the not so great places in Venice that we "dined" at. Our hotel concierge called ahead to make sure they would hold us a lunch table and within a couple of minutes from Hotel Metropole, we were seated at this quaint trattoria which seemed to mostly be serving locals. Good sign. I had the lasagna and then the mixed fried fish. The hubby had pasta then the branzino (sea bass) which was grilled simply and then served with lemon wedges. All of the dishes were amazing. The service was probably some of the best we encountered while in Italy. It might sound weird but I considered returning the next night for dinner. Instead we ended up at a hotel recommended restaurant which ended up being a generally bad experience. Maybe this place is on the expensive side but I had no problem putting out the cash for a great meal in a nice setting with gracious hosts. If I lived in Venice, I'd be a regular here. read more

My wife lucked into a sea bass-stuffed ravioli that was really great, and the kids loved their pasta and steak. The crowd was more locals than tourists which we enjoyed, however it seemed the wait staff was friendlier with the locals than with us - that's why I gave four stars instead of five. On our last night in Venice we took the advice of a couple that we met at Devil's Pub and decided on Trattoria DA Remigio for dinner. We were seated in the front with other travelers (the back room seemed to be reserved for regulars). Our waiter spoke English haltingly, the menu was in Italian. This all culminated in the best meal of our stay in Venice. Razor clams- beautiful. Pasta- superb. Grilled seafood- perfect. Desserts- fantastic. And to top it off, the house specialty cocktail, a lemon sorbet, vodka infused treat. This place is a must for any visitor to Venice. One note however. The map is completely incorrect. We had to ask several people directions. The restaurant is a couple of blocks in from the lagoon not on the water. read more

Absolutely agree with the bad reviews. The waiters, more specifically the head staff cannot be bothered with non-locals. Couldn't take time to explain the all Italian menu or to recommend anything to us. Made us felt like we were intruding on HIS time. Not a good experience at all. The food was not great, a little below average. Would not recommend this place even if the food was good due to service. The food was definitely not worth the price. 120 euros for three people for one appetizer and three main meals. Meal was bland. Portions small. The worst part was not only did they charge a service charge but they also charge a cover charge so my meal cost ended up being double of what the food prices were. After trying to talk with them about hidden fees they claimed it was written in Italian on the outside of the restaurant. I have been to many countries and understand local neighborhood restaurants. We are drawn to these types of places to try their local dishes, learn their customs and have a great unique experience. Well if you are looking for any of this don't come here. The waiter was not helpful with a all Italian menu. He just wanted us to order and get out. There were 7 of us, the place was busy and loud. The table kind of across the room filled with locals complained that we were being to loud. Everyone was loud. They didn't like that we were Americans. The server came over and told us we had to be more quiet, ARE YOU IDDING ME!!!!! THEN he had the audacity to go over to them and talk about us. He didn't realize I could understand what he was taking about. He was rude, they were rude. So many other options to go to so you don't have to put up with this kind of service. This Is why i wish servers worked off of tips, he deserved $0.00. And by the way, the food was sub par for Italy. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by our local host. The food was very good but the service was not friendly. A lot of the unfriendliness was intuition (since the wait staff always spoke in Italian), however, one member of our party speaks Italian, which the wait staff did not know. She heard them arguing about who would finish waiting on us since we are American....none of them wanted to. We pride ourselves on being friendly and courteous to everyone so we did nothing to deserve the discrimination. This wait staff is a perfect example of what's wrong with today's world. read more

You will not be disappointed. Da Remigio is a 'real' local restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly. The food delicious. Swordfish carpaccio with orange zest and olive oil drizzled, yum! Similar to the other negative reviews, this was close to our hotel and our local tour guide recommended it to us. My husband and I wanted some good, local food and gave it a try. Turns out it was the worst dining experience we have ever had. Being American, they completely wrote us off and didn't want to serve us. Next to our table was an English speaking group from Britain who had great, friendly service, which made it even more obvious that we were being ignored. We even ordered the exact same food as them, and the waiter gave us a hard time saying that Venitians don't eat any of that (even though it's from their own menu). I know this restaurant won't see this review or care - this is more of a "stay away" warning if you're an American. read more

No bigger flop in Venice! We spent months in Venice over multiple trips, staying weeks at a time and dining in many restaurants. The food here is mediocre, terrible-terrible service, 2.50 table charge and 12.5% service charge. They know that you will never come back, so they rip you off nicely the first time. read more

We all have our favorite restaurants. This is my favorite in venice. Pino, the late Remigio's son, serves up super fresh fish night after night, mostly to local Venetians. You can't eat at Da Fiore every night unless you make more than a professor's salary, but I would pick Da Remigio if i could only eat in a single Venetian restaurant every day for the rest of my life (so long as Pino was selecting what I ate!). read more

Went there tonight. First, we asked for a wine recommendation. Without asking what we liked, the waiter pointed at one and said "it's full-bodied." It was brought to the table already opened and it turned out to be bad, but he didn't bother to ask. Then we ordered the prosciutto appetizer and he asked if we wanted melon. I thought it might be a bit extra, but when we got the bill, it was 6 extra euros for 2 thin slices of melon! We have to say though that the lasagna was really good. We also ordered the branzino and did not realize the price was per 100 grams or so. The price was 7, and we were charged 21 euros in the end. He knew we didn't read Italian but didn't explain. Also didn't weigh the fish and tell us how much it'd cost total. The fish was average. We got charged 3 euros for "mineral water," a 5 euro service charge, and I think some extra for some other charge. They didn't seem to care if we liked the food or not. Overall it felt like they were taking advantage of us as tourists in a sneaky nickel-and-dime way. I would not recommend this place. I think there are plenty of more honest and good restaurants around (too bad we didn't have internet at the moment to check- looks like other reviewers also had similar experiences). read more
