Had a great experience at Al Biernat's during a recent visit with a large group. We spent some time in the upstairs lounge area, which is tucked away and has a really nice, more private feel. It was a great spot to start the evening. I kicked things off with the calamari and escargot, both were delicious and a strong start to the meal. For the main course, I split the filet and the ribeye special (non dry-aged) with a friend so we could try both. Both steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly, but I'd give the edge to the ribeye for flavor. On the side, we had the garlic mashed potatoes and the mushroom risotto. The risotto was easily the standout. I could have had two plates of it without hesitation. Overall, this is a great steakhouse with a great atmosphere and very attentive staff. My boyfriend and I had dinner for our anniversary last weekend. The inside of the restaurant was nice. Though the downstairs and music was very loud. Upstairs was less loud but we were seated in a huge booth for just the two of us. It was impossible to hear each other. We started out strong with the calamari. The calamari was definitely the most delicious item we got that night. Unfortunately from there it was downhill. For the cost, the steak tasted okay and not as tender as expected. My boyfriend got the American wagyu NY strip. We were at TX roadhouse earlier that week, and the steaks were comparable... I got the Sea bass which was good. The risotto and fish were very rich. The signature potatoes were tasty. The regular Mac and cheese side, I'd skip it. It was not worth ordering. The overall dinner took us about 2 hrs from arriving to leaving. Worst part was the chicken piccata. The chicken had an odd consistency to it, almost congealed or from a can or plant based...i couldn't put my finger on it but i also couldn't eat it. We tried the chowder, pear salad, shrimp lo mien, halibut and a couple of pies. My lo mein with chicken and shrimp was delicious. The noodles were done perfectly. My experience here was excellent from start to finish. I came here with a co-worker and tried several items. Started off with the steak tartare(which was excellent) and washed it down with their old fashioned (not bad; had higher hopes.) For the main course I went with the 16oz strip; I loved it bite and would recommend it. The sides were brussel sprouts (excellent) and truffle fries (very tasty.) For dessert i tried the coconut cream pie (pretty good, but I bet the apple cobbler is more my speed.) The service was very attentive; our waitress was great, and the floor manager checked in on my table TWICE. Valet is free (huge plus) and you should expect to spend $100+ a person (especially if drinks are involved.) This was one of the best restaurants I've been to in Dallas. The location itself is very large and elegant, and the complimentary valet was a great touch that made arrival seamless. The ambiance is quintessential steakhouse: dark interior, white tablecloths, and an upscale but comfortable vibe that works perfectly for a special occasion or a fancier dinner out. We started with the Tempura Battered Prawns, which came with three impressively large shrimp paired with a tasty teriyaki sauce. A great way to kick things off. Next, we shared Brad's Grilled Pear Salad. Split between two people, it was the perfect portion and a fantastic palate cleanser before the main course; the pears were excellent. For our entrée, we ordered the 10 oz. Filet Mignon, which they kindly split for us at no extra charge. The steak was prepared and hit the spot though it didn't quite knock my socks off. We paired it with sides of mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. The mac and cheese was good, but not the best I've ever had. The Brussels sprouts, however, were top tier; the sriracha soy glaze really set them apart. Each steak also comes with a small portion of whipped sweet potatoes, which were absolutely delicious. As a sweet potato fan, this may have been my favorite bite on the plate. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we were treated to our choice of dessert. We went with the Old Fashioned Slice of Chocolate Cake served with a small scoop of ice cream, and it was the perfect way to end the night. Pear Salad (5/5): Light, crisp, and refreshing--perfect for summer. The pears had just the right bite and paired beautifully with the dressing. Chicken Piccata (4/5): A generous portion of juicy chicken with perfectly cooked green beans on the side. The flavor was spot on--I only wished the pasta length was a little longer Huevos Rancheros (5.5/5!!): My boyfriend declared this the best he's ever had. Decided to treat myself to a nice steak dinner at the end of my last business trip to Dallas. Al Biernat's hit the spot. Had the 22oz Cowboy Ribeye with the horseradish crust and creamy horseradish on the side. I did the specialty potatoes as my side. The steak was cooked well but a tad dry for me. The horseradish crust on it though more then made up for it and i ended up really enjoying the steak. I finished my meal with the coconut pie which ended up being my favorite dish of the night. We decided to get the porterhouse with the trio sauce just to try everything. Honestly, we were not fans of the sauces, the best one was probably the peppercorn. I wish I could write a better review for Al Biernat's North because I have been to the other location years ago and I remember it fondly. To start, they are valet only, which would be fine if they had sufficient support to get guests in and out. Instead, there was one person running the valet, resulting in waiting outside for 10+ mins to get your car. The food really was mediocre. I liked the bread you get at the start of the meal, but the croissants tasted like Pillsbury. The water was unpleasant. I ordered the fruit plate, which came with mint and yogurt, and it was the highlight of the meal. For my main, I ordered the avocado toast. This was most disappointing, it lacked flavor in a big way, and the poached eggs were undercooked and gave me an upset stomach. I enjoy poached eggs, but these had uncooked egg whites, making the whole dish unpleasant as well. It would have been better with a bit of olive oil or salt on top, but only the salad was edible. We all got desserts, so we tried a large amount on the menu, from the bread pudding to the key lime pie to the chocolate cake to the coconut cream pie, and they were all mediocre. I can't understand how they are all misses! Service was ok but nothing special. The restaurant interior was just ok as well, the loud country music playing didn't really match the atmosphere that well. A traditional, typical steakhouse thats more forgettable than enjoyable. It has this laid back feel, while still catering to the old folks who prefer a formal ambiance at the same time. The dining hall is quite different from the bar area in atmosphere, which is fine. You can self park at the next door lot, which is spillover to the hotel. There isnt clear signage that you can park for Al Biernat's but management ensured me this was OK. I think its silly they offer valey parking, but I guess it comes with the territory. The cocktails we had were pretty good. Refreshing and straightforward in their approach. The caesar salad here is just OK. The salad is not nearly as crisp and fresh as it could be. The flavors of the dressing and fixings could have had more pop in flavor. The night I went had elk chops as a special course. I was feeling adventurous and said sure. The elk chop was OK, but wasnt nearly as juicy as I would have hoped. It wasnt dry, but it also on that thin line of beggining to be overcooked. The best part of the dish was the mushroom risotto, which had a rich, broth-like taste. Simply WOW! My wife and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Al Biernat's and they truly pulled out all the stops. When we arrived, Sam immediately wished us "Happy Anniversary" before sitting us at our beautiful table, that was topped with a heart made of rose petals. Our waiter, Matt Fontana, was exceptional from the start and could have not been more attentive or friendly. He made the night truly special and gave us excellent suggestions on one of the best meals of our life. James Gee the manager also checked in on us twice and was kind and warm, ensuring we were having the best night possible. The staff overall made the experience truly unique and memorable. The food was AWESOME! We shared the Tomahawk Steak, which was cooked to perfection, as well as the pear and wedge salads and the delicious Lobster Risotto and Brussel Sprouts. Right when we thought the night couldn't get any better, Matt presented us with complimentary Champagne before we indulged in two scrumptious desserts, the bread pudding and the peanut butter banana cream pie. My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary. They set us next to a group of ladies that were celebrating a birthday. I'm not sure if some of them were influencers or bloggers but they had these huge lights connected to their phones and they were constantly making videos which we are in the background. It was so uncomfortable and it completely ruined our evening. The restaurant did absolutely nothing and let them continue to record every moment of their dining experience. I know the table behind us was also very frustrated with it because the light was blinding. I will say the food was good. I'd dress appropriately anyways but to have such a rule is ridiculous imo. Ribeye was fine, nothing different from Ruth Chris or Nicks etc. the service was extremely slow and i don't know if our server was new or what, but the guy came around 3 times to ask if we wanted bread, and all 3 times the response was "yes". 3rd time was the charm for some underwhelming table bread. I've been a loyal customer of Al Biernat's ever since moving to Texas, and it has always been my favorite steakhouse. Whenever friends visit from out of town, I tell them this is the place they must experience. That's why I chose Al Biernat's to celebrate my 40th birthday--a milestone that carries deep meaning for me, especially as I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy for the second time. Chemo has been really rough, and because of that we had to move the reservation twice. On the day of the dinner, I even called to confirm, but for some reason they had me down for Saturday instead of Wednesday. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us despite the busy holiday season, which I truly appreciated. I'm a big foodie, and considering what I'm going through, I rarely have moments where I can truly enjoy a meal. That's why this night mattered so much to me. We arrived early for our 7:00 reservation and enjoyed sitting at the bar. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing--the espresso martini was poorly made, and the dirty martini with blue cheese olives looked rushed and messy. Once seated, service was attentive and warm, but the food was inconsistent. The mussels arrived with several still closed, which should have been caught before serving. My fiancé's scallops were outstanding--truly the best we've ever had. My steak, however, had to be sent back twice: first for being overcooked, then for being raw. I had requested medium-rare, but the kitchen couldn't get it right. What surprised me most was that the steak wasn't taken care of after being sent back twice--it took a third attempt before it finally came out correctly. For over 20+ years, I worked in every aspect of the restaurant industry--from serving to bartending and even managing before I left about five years ago. I understand that mistakes happen, but when a dish is sent back multiple times, it deserves extra care and attention. That's why this experience stood out to me. When it came to dessert, I asked for crème brûlée with the warm caramelized top but without the extra powdered sugar that usually comes with it. My body doesn't respond well to powdered sugar in raw form, so I was clear about that request. The first one arrived cold, and the second was no better. By that point, I was ready to call it a night. As I was leaving, one of the servers even recognized me as someone who used to be in the industry. On the other hand, another staff member wished me a happy anniversary instead of a happy birthday--a small but telling detail on a night that was meant to be special. Considering Al Biernat's was just voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the country a few weeks ago, and given that I've been dining here regularly for the last 10 years, I expected at least the consistent level of service I've always received--or ideally, a little more for such a milestone occasion. While the service was commendable, the booth was excellent and certain dishes shined, the execution in the kitchen and attention to detail fell short. As someone who has always championed Al Biernat's, I left honestly disappointed. Which is why I'm writing this review now. For this milestone occasion, I can only rate the experience a 6 out of 10. The wait staff goes above and beyond, the serving team is very attentive without being intrusive. The menu has enough options to cover anyone's tastes. Th Beef Wellington is so worth the wait, order ahead on your reservation for a filet in a delightfully flakey crust. We have had 3 or 4 at this location and they have all been perfect. Every single thing we've had here is amazing. My husband ordered breakfast last weekend, and I tried his bacon. It felt like the first time I've had real bacon in a decade, lol! My go to meal is the shrimp and mango ceviche. A must! Their mojitos are fabulous (thanks, Griff), and their bread basket is a must. Also highly recommend the raw oysters. We love to finish with double espressos and tiramisu. All of their desserts are fantastic, and you can't go wrong no matter which one you choose. had planned for a month a 40th anniversary dinner with family at N Al Biernat's. was very excited to go - realize only valet parking if you go and lot is closed off to any other. had reservations got seated quickly in porch room - nice open sunny; wait staff very attentive at first - but only offered main menu if you go RESTAURANT WEEK or want their offer menu of weekend dinner you have to ask for these menus. We had a ceasar salad - decent and ice tea as we were driving a long distance and did not want alcohol. Enjoyed basic food - I had buffalo, shrimp, scallop and quail dish and switched carrots to brussel sprouts - decent; the meat was cooked to order. Veal dish was very good - probably best with bone marrow served with bread basket - although they tried to take it we opted to keep it with bone marrow. Veal very tender and decent portion. Scallops and rice was in coconut milk sauce was basic. The food was decent but did not woo us as we've eaten around the world. Then we ask for check and waiter ask we would have a dessert - daughter did - complimentary as it was our anniversary and the wait staff brought the plate out - cute but my husband was staring on the side - WHAT? a dead frozen fly as shown below - we ask for waiter who immediately "i'll bring you another - NO WAY' and we ask for manager, Sam on the Saturday evening for this room - he apologized 'what can I do' - pretty sad he offered nothing but a glass of champagne or dessert to go home' - with spending this level at higher end DFW restaurant very badly ;handled. Sam stated ' i'll talk to dessert staff and oh well, there are flys everywhere'. WELL SAM - I said I wish you'd told me that before I ate here - I'd rather not have flys in my food. We paid our bill and left - stopping to give first waiter a cash tip for him (not his fault) and he was super nice and embarrassed as ended RUINED a nice evening and our 40th ANNIVERSARY. The service and dining experience was great. The food was good but do think there are better steakhouses for the money. Waygu carpaccio: good but needed more capers or additional acid. Lobster bisque and crab corn chowder was good. Would get the bisque over the ceab corn chowder. The chowder was thicker than I would like. The bread basket was cold and stale. My husband got the filet mignon with blue cheese and I got the filet with lobster thermidor . The Lobster was the star of the show. It was so good, I would come back for that. The sides and dessert were good but nothing special imo. read more
