The ambiance at Brentwood is always charming, and I hate using this word, but it fits for this review - cozy. The booths are set up so you feel like you're in your own little space. You hardly see or hear the people around you - and that is when I would use the word cozy. Beautiful dark wood fills the restaurant and it gives a wonderful elegance to the ambiance. The wait staff here have always been kind and knowledgeable. I can honestly say, I have never had a bad experience at Brentwood. The food is really good. I have had their Salmon and the Royal French Dip. I enjoy both so much I rarely order anything else.

Even though Houston's closed, I still have options when it comes to the wanting the Hawaiian ribeye. Brentwood is one of those options. I got that which came with a baked potato and all the fixings. I also got the garlic cheese bread. I enjoyed it all.

We wanted to love Brentwoods. My pros are that the mashed potatoes were great and so was my old fashioned. My husband was looking for a great steak and a friend sent us here. The steak was objectively bland and cheap and dry. I think this is a recent thing because so many people are nostalgic and love this place. As someone coming recent with none of that bias this place is not worth the money compared to similar spots in Dallas.

Less than 3/4 of a cup of tortilla soup

I have been here a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. Not this time. I picked up an order to go of tortilla soup and that's what I got.(see pic) $14.95. I called the restaurant and the manager showed no concern other than trying to state facts: that is our in house serving of 1cup(false). It was less than a 1/3 cup and all he could say..."it is what it is". Per my wife, it did taste good. Manager gave somewhat of an apology by saying..."I'm sorry it was not to your satisfaction." He then stated that all things have gone up in price. Another thing. He had hung up on me, maybe by accident. I called back and informed the person who answered that the manager hung up on me. She asked..."so what would you like me to do?" REALLY. I guess I am more upset about the portion, price and lack of concern from who I talked to. Never again. We were not aware of the price and portion. Otherwise we would have gone to El Fenix or Mccalisters. Double the portion and half the price and just as good.

    Hawaiian ribeye and fish special

Oh my gosh I love this place. We were huge Houston's people, so when it left we were devastated. Brentwood has an almost identical menu and everything hits. The Hawaiian ribeye was on my mind for weeks after going. My husband got some special that was fish with rock shrimp on top- it's amazing. It's a special often I feel like? He always gets that. You MUST start with the cheese bread. The sauce that comes with it is AMAZING. Seriously, I love this place. Great date night.

    Ribs were fork tender.

Brentwood is located in the old Houston's location, and their food is an homage to that menu. Everything we tried was very similar to what we remembered. The spinach artichoke dip was exceptional and possibly better. The ribs were excellent and very tender. The prime rib was a little overcooked and a little chewier than I had hoped. They have a full bar and a good wine list.

Brentwood was spectacular. The service was impeccable, following the tradition of Houston's, which used to be in the same location. I loved the pork chop; it was beautifully plated, and being a huge portion also helped! The ambiance is classic and semiformal but friendly and welcoming. Brentwood is a great place to have a birthday celebration!

Service could have been much better- our waiter disappeared quite a bit leaving us with empty glasses for much of the night. The artichoke dip and cheesy toastie bread were melty, cheesy, savory and satisfying. After indulging in those appy's I thought I would try something a little lighter by ordering something from their sushi selection- meh, not a good choice- my crispy rice was so crispy it was hard to enjoy and the other roll I ordered was close to $22 or more- I believe the rice was $14 for three tiny pieces- both were too expensive for the lack of flavor and quantity- Unreasonably expensive so for the portions. A friend ordered the shrimp Louie and that looked beautiful- but a lot of lettuce underneath the beauty. Probably won't be back, but glad we tried- had an old fashioned restaurant vibe.

We stopped by to enjoy a nice Sunday meal. The menu was very similar to Houston's, although it's not part of the Hillstone management company. The server was nice and explained the menu was similar due to people loving Houston's so they wanted to give customers what they desired. This restaurant is in the old Houston's building. I ordered the double pork chop entree. It was good but I felt the pork chop was a little salty. You never know how much salt you can put on pork sometimes. I'd go back to try something different.

Service was top notch. You could see everyone was in there A game. Great ambiance for groups and couples alike. Was craving French dip so searched Yelp and found this. It's pricy at 29 bucks but it was good. Didn't like the artichokes in the spinach stuffing for the Rockefeller. Just personally like fresh artichokes not canned or oil cured. That's what I took off the 1 star for. Would go again if I was craving a French dip again.

Came for a work lunch as a first time visitor -- The porkchop was fantastic and Jessica's service made for a pleasant lunch. Thanks!

A Wednesday night with the place less than 1/3 full, so it was relatively quiet for this type of restaurant and decent for conversation. Eventually one guy had his entree' Caesar salad served, which he finished before the next dish arrived. A few more came sporadically over another 15 minutes, the rest arrived in bursts like it should. The food arrived in the all too common practice of showing up tableside as the staff holds it above eye level while shouting "WHO HAD THE blah blah?", instead of using an order seating system and just quietly serving it without having to shout at everyone up and down a long table 16 to 30 times. Personally, this type of dinner service really bothers me as it shatters any ambiance the place may have had, and kills conversation. It shows the wait and kitchen staff lack training and organization skills, but worse, that they have no concept of what dining out is, or should be. This isn't the Catfish Shack guys, get a grip. Unfortunately, I ordered the Cobb Salad which was sub par made with hamburger toppings, factory diced iceberg lettuce, diced tomato, diced egg, diced avocado, with all appearances of being shaken out of a bag, unfortunately with the wrong dressing. Dressing was on the side, thankfully, so that was fixable by flagging staff and waiting another ten minutes. It might have been resolved faster had waitstaff asked how is everything??? The Cobb was 75% of an entree serving but more than enough given what it was. A friend had the glazed salmon and rice which looked very good, other entrees looked fair, some of generous proportion. Unfortunately , as this is a larger restaurant with nice covered patio seating, it is possibly the worst of the lot as Preston/121 location is top notch in comparison. It is in need of decent management, perhaps to train/retrain the whole staff. Rather disappointing. I have no desire to return to this location.

I had booked a reservation on Resy and we were seated immediately in a small, intimate booth. Initially, it was not terribly loud, but as the evening progressed and several large parties were seated nearby; the sound of the music was completely drowned out. I think more noise abatement measures could be taken to absorb some of the obtrusive loudness we were getting. For a starter, we ordered the Calamari. It was fried perfectly and was great, but the Thai Sticky sauce was too sweet and the consistency of the sauce was thin. It needed something to make it more viscous, and a secondary sauce, like a marinara or even an aioli would've been nice to balance out the sweetness of the Thai sauce. For an entree, I ordered the Maple- Ginger Salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and itself was delicious, but the sauce was too sweet and rich. The fired rice that accompanied my meal was over-the-top salty. It was almost going into "too much" territory. For desert we split the Passion Fruit Ice Cream Pie. This was actually very good and not overly sweet. It was my favorite item from my meal. Overall Renny's truly employs a lot of care and attention to the food, but some of the items crossed a line into "too much" territory. Be it sweetness or saltiness, the kitchen could exercise a bit of restraint to let the flavors of the food shine.

Began with a signature cocktail, The Bracco, frozen, not sweet, refreshing with a delicious punch of grapefruit. Perfect for a hot evening in Dallas! You MUST get the biscuits with butter and homemade orange marmalade. It's a must. Salty, buttery, and with a sweet/sour tang of good marmalade. GET IT!! Split the wedge salad. Yes, you should split it. It was big! Plenty for two to split as an appetizer easily or you could add some filet to it for an entree. Will do that for lunch. And probably split that too! The giant bacon cubes and quality blue cheese crumbles are my reason for living. Entrees we tried (this time. We'll definitely try more items next visit): got THE crab cake. It is big. More crab than cake, which shows the quality. Wasn't a fan of the butter sauce, I thought it was too heavy for the delicate crab and would just ask for it plain with just some fresh lemon but the cake itself was perfect with jumbo lumps. Came with fries. Fries and dipping sauces were excellent but may ask for a different side option to keep it lighter. My daughter had the miso glazed salmon which came with potato puree with buttermilk....omg the only fault with it is that there wasn't nearly enough, and a jalapeno slaw, which was crispy and creamy with a little kick to it. Perfection! We also tried the side of creamed corn. Not sweet. Definitely savory and not too heavy, which was nice, with a little mild pepper kick. Desserts we took home because we were stuffed which were the carrot cake and the chocolate pie. We'll eat those tonight while watching tv. I have no doubt they will be great too. Definitely make a reservation. They get crowded. It does get noisy as well. Oh, and hopefully you'll have the best server Jemima. She was so sweet, personable, easy to chat with, and made our first time there a wonderful experience. Note to owners....she deserves a raise for being awesome!!!
