I would give this place 10 star if I can. I would say THE BEST in dearborn. Delicious Syrian authentic food. We ordered the fattoush (not the average fattoush your mom makes (it has a lil spice to it), hummus and baba ghanouj was great, the mhammara was delicious, the spicy potato wasn't good (very plain; just olive oil w black pepper mehhh), the kafta bazenjan is so tender, it melts in your mouth and so is the shish kabob. Portions were big. It's a family owned restaurant. Service was phenomenal. The lady was so nice and friendly, made us feel very welcomed. Check it out !! read more

Used to be one of my favorite middle eastern restaurants in Dearborn. Ate there last night and was disappointed by both entrees . Mansaf sauce was too thick and the rice wasn't good at all , no bread was used under the rice . Chicken shawerma was made in a pan and not from a skewer . On top of that we were charged more than 20% higher than the prices listed in the menu or online . I understand prices can go up, when this happens you need to update your menu prices and online prices too. Sadly we won't be back ! read more

I connected to the plane WiFi just before landing and yelped middle Eastern food in Dearborn. Lebanese? Yemeni? Syrian? After reading reviews for Al Chabab, I had to give it a try. The hummous halabi was delicious-- spicy, flavorful, and hearty with a basket of Syrian pita. The fatoush salad was vinegary and topped with thin, crispy baked pita. The cherry kebabs were a delightful blend of sweet and spicy. I definitely made the right choice coming here. And you should, too. read more

Never had Syrian cuisine so I was kinda curious to see what the difference was between Syrian cuisine and Lebanese cuisine. Come to find it was very similar to Lebanese food but prepared slightly different. Order the baked kibbeh appetizer and got a small plate of hummus and large bowl of salad with it for free. Win! The baked kibbeh had pistachios in the stuffing which went real well the texture and savory taste of the kibbeh, The hummus tasted the same as the Lebanese hummus but not as garlicky and it was garnished with cumin rather than paprika and parsley. The salad was made with a red wine vinegar rather than the traditional lemon, salt and olive oil. What really got me was the Mohamra Halabib which was similar to a hummus dip but it was made with cashews, pomegranate and chilli peppers. It was delicious and had the texture of tomato paste. They also use the Halabib to make pizza like pita bread wedges and it's topped it with parsley and onions and served with their kabob dinners. They were really good especially if you stuff them with the kabob and salad. The only reason I found this place is because it was the only thing open on a late Sunday night. This Syrian restaurant is so under advertised and seems to be only known by local Syrian residents. The place really has potential to be upscale it they took down all the signs on the windows and all the god awful middle eastern crap on the walls. I've been to this place twice within one week especially for their felafel salad and I would definitely go back to explore their Cherry kafta and all their traditional Syrian breakfast menu items. read more

There are not many places that make "fettah" the Syrian way (which syrians also call "tisiyeh" ) and this place does, and does it well. They douse it with what is considered the best ghee (ghee from a town in Syria called Hamma, semneh hamwiyeh) and serve it with tons of cut up tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, mint, and pickles. We also ordered the "Aleppo omelet" which is more like a frittata. In Arabic its most commonly known as "ajeh". It was AMAZING. Make sure you order those two things! We ate breakfast there, I'll def be returning to experience dinner there Note that this place is a small hole in the wall and nothing fancy. Prob better for parties no bigger than 6. Started with a tasty salad with pita chips and middle eastern style vinaigrette dressing. I had the cherry kabobs and they were totally lean, tender, moist, cut with a fork cherry goodness. Living in the Detroit area, we have a huge selection of middle eastern restaurants. This is the only one I have been to that serves cherry kabobs. Friendly service was a nice plus. Lured by the great reviews - I decided to check out this place today. Nice family owned joint - looks to be the parents and daughter. The other reviews made it seem like the menu would be very different from other Middle Eastern restaurants. I did not find it to be VASTLY different. It was similar, but what came out of the kitchen was different. Also, there were not as many sandwiches, and there were subs (I'd guess that is the American spin on Aleppo food). I had the veggie ghallaba which came with rice and fattoush. The fattoush had a different dressing, more vinegar-y than Lebanese, but tasty. The pita chips were crispy and good. The ghallaba was more soupy than ghallaba I've had - a welcome change because it sopped up the rice. There was crispy pita on top which had a bit of zip - I think the tomato sauce was the zip? Not sure...but it was good. There was one vegetable I could't figure out - just not sure. Looked like a green tomato, but I don't think it was... Anyway the ghallaba was amazing. In my old reviewer age I am knocking one star for some nitpicky stuff (which I will detail because they have a yelp sticker up in the establishment, so they will hopefully see this). First, they advertised opening at 11, but at 11:23 when no one was there I started to Yelp other places to go. Then they arrived. There was a puddle in the kitchen with a wet towel sopping it up and blowers - maybe they had an issue....? But they need to address it, and move the fans/towels out. I wouldn't be rude about it if we'd just had a huge rain...but we have not. Also the area behind the counter was messy. My issue with these nitpicky stuff is you wonder how clean the kitchen is. I'm sure it is fine, but...? And the other 1/2 my issue is I heard a microwave. The food when I got it was PIPING hot. If I had to guess, he microwaved the rice, the rest seemed stove top fresh. So I will review each thing separately: Moharama Halabi: I didn't know what to expect with this one, but it essentially tasted like pizza sauce. Was NOT appetizing= 1/5 Hummus Halabi: I thought I was getting spicy hummus but again I got that pizza salsa taste mixed with hummus, still better then the Moharama Halabi= 2/5 Cherry Kabob= This was GOOD. Very tender and juicy meat with this unique sweet/spicy sauce mhmm was good. Only con that it was $20?! It's just kabob with rice and special sauce shouldn't be more than $12. 4/5 (-1 for unnecessary expensive price) Kibbeh Saija= This was also pretty good. This place brings Aleppo to you via the delicious food they serve. I had Cherry Kebab and Kebbeh Sfarjalieh (kibbeh cooked slowly with quince and lamb bones!). Both dishes were super authentic, and more importantly absolutely delicious! The restaurant owner used to be a chef at a famous hotel in Aleppo, and he really proved how skillful of a cook he is. Among the big number of middle eastern restaurants in the area Alchabab stands out as a family owned and run with authentic variety of dishes other than Shawerma and kabobs. The taste is so homemade. The owners and service were so nice and welcoming. The cherry kabob is so delicious and made with experienced hands. The variety of appetizers and taste was great. The Halabi kabob is so good even the hamburger and fries that my daughter had was different and she loved it. The price given the quality and taste is so reasonable. We went at a non-busy time. The food was fresh and promptly served. This was our first experience having Syrian food and it was delicious! We had the Halabi kabob which was very flavorful and the Karaz kabob which was moist and very different from anything I've tried before. The mohamara halabi was excellent. Middle eastern restaurants are a dime a dozen in Dearborn. While I am Lebanese and love Lebanese cuisine, the majority of the restaurants in town use the same exact formula and it gets pretty boring after awhile. But then a friend turned me towards this gem nestled in East Dearborn. Even though the restaurant is known to be Syrian owned with food from Aleppo, the owner can make any Middle Eastern dish from the region. He will make something that is not on the menu if you request it. He makes Lebanese food better than most Lebanese restaurants I've been to. My favorite things on the menu are the sheep's head, cherry kabobs, and the fatteh. The restaurant itself is not the fanciest and I know some people can get turned off by that. But if a flashy sit down place is what you're looking for then go to Al Ameer or Ollie's. This restaurant is for people who enjoy good quality food made from loving hands read more
