We went back to El Chabab and this visit was just as good as the last. The owners are great and will explain the menu to you since many of the entrees may not look familiar or are slightly different than you would get in most Middle Eastern restaurants. This time they recommended kibbeh sajia and sharhat khanem. Both were amazing. We thought the sharhat khanem was beef and didn't realize it was lamb until we had already finished the meal. We usually don't order lamb but this meat tasted like filet mignon-it was that good. You wouldn't know it from the outside but this place is a little gem. read more

Found this place via Yelp and so glad I did. Came in on Memorial Day, only people in there. Owner was great and gave us some extra food for Ramadan. The meat shawarma was AMAZING, as was the tabbouleh. Came out to less than $25 for enough food for three people. Will definitely be back! read more

Not a lot of ambience, owner very friendly and hospitable. Sadly for a non Syrian, the menu listed many items with Syrian names and NO descriptions.... and the owner was not much help in translating or describing. He recommended "cherry kabob" which was some very tender meat in a cherry jam sauce.... i found it overly sweet, could not eat more than a few bites. Much better was the huge side salad that had a selection of beautifully fresh veggies and a delicate and delicious dressing, also the baba ganouch was creamy and delicious. A sleeper item, yogurt-rice-lamb soup, was my favorite, delicately lemony, beautiful texture, perfect comfort food. The french fries were perfectly executed, crisp and tender. My band was visiting Detroit and when we finally had time for a sit-down dinner, one of our leaders said "I want Syrian food in Dearborn!" We asked a Dearborn resident for the best place to go and he immediately said "Al Chabab -- they do the cherry thing." I've had a lot of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food, but had never tried Syrian food... what an amazing meal! The owners and staff were super friendly and welcoming, and every dish they brought out was delicious. Giant fattoush salads came with most of our meals -- fresh and delicious. The hummus is a little different from what you see in other cuisines... a little more spicy, with a slightly sweet, roasted flavor. Could not stop eating it. The piece de resistance was the cherry kabob (you can have lamb or beef; I ordered the beef since I don't like the flavor of lamb). Small pieces of ground beef (like kibbeh) sauteed until crispy and coated with the most delicious, sweet cherry sauce. Served with rice and strips of delicate flatbread. Uttery delicious, huge portion, had to force myself to stop eating it or I would have been too full to move! Thank you, Al Chabab, for your hospitality and for nourishing a hungry band! Went for dinner last night. Small restaurant similar to a deli. Nothing fancy or stuffy. Very laid back atmosphere. The staff is friendly. You are brought glasses and a pitcher of water. If you want pop they have cans. Also juice boxes. But you have to ask for it. The food was great!!! We ate so much. My daughter had the beef shawarma platter. It comes with 2 sides. The menu doesn't list choices of sides. Server said sides are salad n rice. The salad was good and was very big and had fried pita pieces. The dressing was a red vinaigrette. I had a shish kabob pita with fries. This only cost $21.00. We will go back it's worth the trip. read more

Let say this I am sure this place has done better but not this time if i could have given no stars I would have did that I ordered the Falafel salad and what a big mistake that was this salad I should have taken a picture of it but when I open the container it came in and saw that wiled slop of a so called salad that was per made sitting in the cooler for a few days all of the salad was wilted and soft let me tell you it was soaked in dressing i poured at least a half of cup of salad dressing out of the box trying to save it also you know its old when the skin on the tomato is wrinkled poor excuse for a restaurant when you give some people garbage because mines did not come even close to the pictures I seen on yelp read more

The falafel salad was extremely fresh and well prepared, if your looking for a healthy salad I highly recommend this. We got the mixed grill, this is a must, it is just a pile of different grilled items they have but it is so good! and served with a lot of pita which is great. The cherry kabob is also amazing and a nice take on Michigans favorite fruit. Outstanding food! Much the same as Lebanese food but spiced a little different. Smaller storefront place - drove by it several times and finally decided to stop. We had lamb tongues (very fresh!), a kibbeh dish made with cherries, lentil soup and yogurt soup. Wow! Owner is very proud of his cooking and rightly so! Clean and neat! Although Dearborn has many middle eastern restaurants this one distinguishes itself by having many items not available at other establishments. Best Arabic food I've ever had in Dearborn. I encourage everyone to try their entrees and kabobs. I prefer the tabbouli over the fatoush but their fatoush is delicious. So this place is REALLY good. I know it is smack dab in the middle of a thousand other Middle Eastern Restaurants but this one is different. The food here is so flavorful and well presented and he portions are HUGE. We ordered the falafel appetizer which were very crisp on he outside and creamy on the inside, packed with flavor. We ordered the mixed grill and the Ghallouba (sp?). The meal was presented in courses with a large salad covered in fresh tasty veggies and a house made dressing. This was followed by pita and hummus with pickled veggies. The pita are purchased at a local bakery but the hummus is super tasty. They have several different varieties that are all made in house. Then we were presented with saffron rice. And when we were too full to have anymore, our entrees cake out! You MUST get the lamb. Lamb anything. They marinate it and grill it and it is so good! Where do I begin when describing the best restaurant I've ever been to in Dearborn? This restaurant is PHENOMENAL. The chef is from the city of Aleppo which is known for it's special brand of Arab food which is uniquely flavorful with a touch of spiciness. I went there for Iftar. Not only was I shocked by how delicious the food was, I was also highly impressed by the hospitality, friendliness, and kindness of the owner and the workers. This is definitely a hole in the wall that I now consider to be a hidden gem of the Dearborn food scene. I had many different dishes, all of which were exceptional. Kibbi lebani, samosas, rice, fried Kibbi, grilled chicken, kabob, kafta, lentil soup, and fatoush. I was highly impressed with the degree to which they were able to serve a large group of individuals with these delicious dishes in rapid succession. Kafta is one of their strongest cuisines but there many traditional Syrian dishes. I spent my life frequenting the various middle-eastern restaurants in Dearborn as a life long Dearbornite and there are none that rival Al Chabab in taste. Wow!! This place is a MUST. Ok seriously I was like uhh yea I lived in Dearborn for 25 years and each time I hear of a restaurant they're usually good the first few months then they go downhill in flavor, increase prices, and give you less on the plate. This place truly took me by surprise. The food was AMAAAAAAZING. I always knew Syrian food was delicious but seriously...this place has the juiciest chicken I've ever had in my life! And the fattoush...i could eat just that for the next year. The hummus was soooo good I wish they put a little more in the bowl. The garlic sauce is thick and to die for! I'm so sick of the watered down garlic sauce or the mayo that is passed off as garlic sauce (eye roll). The place is very simple inside with few tables...but the food was so fresh and tasty. I love that they stick to their roots here. The waitress I believe is probably the owners wife or family, she was very sweet and attentive. I went to this resturant and the only thing I can say.. That I am soo amazed by the food and the owner and every body work there.. They are so friendly.. One year ago I went to jordan, and I ate mansif there, so I decided to try it here, and it was exactly the same.. Delicious to eat and with solid tasty soup. That was wonderful. First time here. Dishes ordered: falafel salad, hommous halabi, meat grape leaves, and cherry kabob. Also, a drink called Jallab, made with rose water. Overall, my experience here was a good one. Very friendly owners and clean establishment with different offerings than typical middle eastern restaurants for the area. I really liked the cherry kabob. The cherry sauce complemented the grilled flavor of the kabob. The rice was ok. I would have been happier if it were a higher quality rice such as basmati for the price of the dish ($19.99) and if the serving was a bit larger. Meat grape leaves were the most flavorful I have had served at a restaurant in this area but were a bit skimpy on meat content. Falafel salad contained similar ingredients to the fattoush but with added falafel and a tahini-like dressing which was good. Hommous halabi is a hommous with added Aleppo chilies and it's a wonderful change of flavor. Jallab was not my taste. First time ever having it and it was much too fragrant for me. The menu has great choices and is designed well but missing descriptions. There's only a few pictures so you might need to ask or use Google to find out what some things are. I would recommend this place to others. I ate here at 930pm and it was mostly quiet and pleasant. read more
