The best food we've had in Venice so far. It's tricky to find good food here. It can be misleading. Avoid places that have food pictures on the menu. We ordered a lot of food. And it was all delicious the service was great. The squid pasta was delicious, the black squid sauce was light and flavorful, the calamari was a lot but oh so yummy, and the pizza was among the best we had in Italy. Not only did this restaurant have chicken on the menu (I don't do steak or seafood) but others had actually tried and reviewed the chicken dishes. I ordered Escalope of Chicken, which was reminiscent of a chicken marsala back in the states, and it was delicious! My husband had a clam pasta dish he really enjoyed, and we ordered the Caprese appetizer which was delicious and fresh! This little place was amazing! We wish we found it before our last night. The three cheese gnocchi was amazing (if you like blue cheese which we love). Had inexpensive wine for the bottle and large liter beers also. My husband had the the monk fish which had lots of seasoning and was absolutely delicious. I had the veal cutlet, when they first brought it out it was overdone but they took it back and corrected it. After it was juicy and we'll seasoned. The wait staff was top notch. Quick, checked on us and was so delightful. They even provided us with an on the house lemoncello. If we find ourselves in Venice again we will definitely be coming here again! read more

I had the sea bass and it was outstanding. It came with salad, which was not tossed and they give you olive oil and balsamic to mix as you please. I like mixing my dressing and tossing my salad so this was good for me. They brought me the entire fish and they cut it for me. My wife had the pizza with garlic, and they were generous with it. Note: not sure if I can give any place in Italy more than 4 stars unless the food of off the charts because the level of service is always way too laid back for me. This place was average on that front... took 7 minutes before we got a menu or a drink order, 10 minutes from the time we asked for the check till we paid. This place is a tourist trap. Do not but the 5 star reviews they are probably fake. They nickel and dime for stale bread for a box to go and have visible microwaves in the kitchen. Not an authentic Italian experience. Not happy at all only reason we can was because we were tired and exhausted needed to sit down. In Venice for only a short visit but after eating there one night we went back the next night. Had two pasta dishes the first night that were delicious. The second night had an appetizer and pizza. Both were the best we had while in Venice. Deserts both nights that were outstanding. The staff and service the best. This is a very small restaurant that has only 13 tables inside and a few outside but they don't rush you to leave. Would recommend it to anyone visiting Venice. Work the find. read more

My wife and I were asking our hotel for a great Italian Restaurant. They suggested staying local in Venice. That the food in San Marco is not as good. Well, we just ate an absolutely delicious meal that started off with caprese salad which served with the most sweet and delicious tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. My wife had the 4 cheese gnocchi with tomato sauce. The gnocchi was very light and airy and made perfectly. I had cheese and spinach ravioli cooked in sage and butter and I cleaned my plate with the Italian bread "delicious". The service was quick and the staff was very polite and extremely willing to cater to our needs. Our desert was strawberries and creme with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. We were extremely happy and highly recommend Al Chianti as this was by far our best meal in Italy this week. read more

It was my last night in Venice and I had some previous not so memorable experiences with dinners. However, this time I nailed it. I loved this place mainly because the dish I ordered (lobster and shrimp fettuccine) was simply delicious. The excellent service also helped! My waiter Alberto was super attentive and friendly; and though you think everyone in restaurants would be friendly that is not often the case in Venice. Even the tiramisu (which everyone says is the 'best') was distinguishable better than the rest. This place got everything right and the price was as expected in Venice and definitely worth it. The review is a few years past due but I was reminded how great it was and wanted to share it with everyone out there. We were in Venice for 5 nights and had gotten a few poor suggestions on where to eat so we decided to set out on our own and take a look for ourself. We walked thru Piazza San Marco and things looked a bit to touristy but after a short walk a turn here and there we stumbled on Al Chianti. It looked to have a nice little outside to eat that was on a narrow street full of little stores and people watching. we got a great table on the corner. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and prompt. We started with muscles came in a big pot full of flavor and fresh. My wife ordered the seafood and spaghetti which she loved it was packed full of local fresh shell fish and a light but flavorful sauce and I had sea bass served whole but deboned at table, I love table side service. My fish came with fries and a salad both were good. Leaving the waiter gave us a limoncello it was a good end to a great unexpected meal. Must visit here for the minestrone soup. Most delicious minestrone soup I've ever had. I would come eat it ever day if I could. My friends ordered the lasagna. It was very good as well. A very creamy cheese sauce. But the minestrone was soooooo good that I just ate that. The wine selection was good with a variety of nice Chianti wines from which to choose. The lasagna was very bland and the amount of pasta sheets compared to the amount of meat was too high. The pizza was so salty and oily it was inedible. The red wine by the glass was excellent once it was able to breath a bit.
