    Chicken Tikka Masala Garlic Naan
    Parag B.

This is a great place for take-out or dine-in. I got the chicken tikka with garlic naan. The portion looked small but it was a lot of food. The chicken was burnt a little (on the edges), but it was delicious. Naan was hand made and huge! I recommend the garlic naan! Also, it is a grocery store! I got mango juice and kombucha. Come to this place and try it out

I'm talking about a tiny Middle Eastern kitchen inside the Berkeley Organic Market. I just happened on this spot as I was walking and feeling peckish in the family-friendly Elmwood neighborhood. One woman was behind the counter, so I assumed she was not only the face of Badan, she was Badan. I ordered the $9.99 Falafel Plate with three freshly deefalafel balls, hummus, baba ganoush, and a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, turnip, pickles, and feta cheese (photo). It came with a fluffy pita quartered for easier scooping. The market only has one table out on the sidewalk which I shared with a young mother and her daughter. I can say unequivocally that everything tasted fresh. I believe the woman who prepared my plate made everything that morning, and it made me want to come back and try the shawarma, the lentil soup, and the wraps. Great balls. You're welcome. Order at the counter, grab a seat at orange cafe seating outside. Their puffy flatbread is made in-house daily with whole wheat flour and finished on a plancha. It's the base of an excellent falafel sandwich with flash-pickled purple cabbage, yogurt, hot sauce, and a top layer of fresh mint, parsley, and dill. (They also have lamb and chicken versions of this sandwich.) The line moves fast, the staff is warm and genuinely friendly and engaging. The mango lassi was delicious. Of course, I also had to order a tahini chocolate cookie, which ended up being the star of the show. The braised lamb itself was tender and juicy, but to be honest there were way too many herbs on top (dill, parsley, mint). I enjoyed the wrap and purple cabbage. The chicken plate was just okay...the chicken was a little dry and the rest of the ingredients didn't feel the most cohesive. Tahini chocolate cookie was thin but massive in surface area. Great nutty flavor, enhanced by the dark chocolate. It was the perfect in between of slightly crispy exterior and soft, dense interior. Would come back just for this cookie.

And I like spice! But it was labeled 2/5 chilis and that was a vast understatement. I guzzled 5 glasses of water. I started to hear colors. The flavor was nice from what I could taste, but it was so spicy my sister couldn't finish her wrap and I suffered through mine. Even the owner said she would classify it a 4/5 chili dish, but it was her husband who decided it would be 2/5. It will burn a hole in your insides and humble you. - the vanilla cardamom panna cotta didn't have enough vanilla or cardamom flavor. The texture is also a bit...firmer and bouncier than others I've had. The caramel and nuts on top were a nice touch.

The flavors are still lingering on my tongue!!! I was extremely surprised to see the restaurant empty which made me pretty bummed...There's perfect outdoor seating with pet accommodations and beautiful lighting! I was expecting to see more people at dinner time, especially since the food is outstanding. Next time you're craving indian food or you don't know what to cook/eat, go here! Pastrami sandwich 4/5 It's a nice clean sandwich, nothing too heavy, and I love the pineapple. Pineapple was just ripe and sweet. I think that's a pretty unique complimentary side they're doing. No sandwich spot ever gave me a pineapple! haha The sandwiches are also very big so you can definitely save the other half for lunch or share it with a friend. I do wish that the bread was toasted and that there was some kind of tasty sauce to go with it. They also charge an extra .75 cents for takeout packaging. But nonetheless I enjoyed it. Ambience 4/5 Inside is cool and lively. A nice dining area to quickly grub with a friend. Staff were friendly but I didn't really have much of an interaction since I ordered online. Quick tip, order online ahead of time before heading there since the lines can get very long especially during lunch hours.

We ended up getting three things: * The cheese twist was soooo good! The cheese was flavorful and the pastry itself was perfectly done. * The apple pastry was interesting. Unlike many places where the pastry is either bland or overly sweet, Acme's pastry had a slight saltiness to it, which I actually think is genius. I almost always prefer a hint of savory flavor to balance out the sweetness from the filling or topping. My only issue with this one was that the apple topping was not sweet at all and leaned more tart, so paired with the salty pastry, it was not quite the flavor combination I was hoping for. * The mini raspberry pastry had the same issue for me. The raspberry topping was just a bit too tart and sour for my taste. Even though not everything was a hit for me, I would definitely come back and give this bakery another chance, especially since we arrived so late and missed out on many of their most popular items.
