Al followed up immediately about scheduling a Time to have 6 knives sharpened... that had never been sharpened in 10+ years. We scheduled a time to deliver the knives. He said he could do it while I waited. He showed me how to determine if a knife was dull ) other than it not cutting properly) by holding the blade up and looking for any reflection on the knife blade edge. A reflection indicated the edge was dull and a sharpened blade would not show a reflection because nothing to reflect. Al completed the job in 20 minutes. He gave me a flat price as I looked at the knives, a price which was lower than the original quote!!' Al knows knives as he creates custom knives for people around the world. A very nice guy!!! Great (and quick) communication. Very accommodating schedule wise. Took maybe 10-15 minutes to sharpen six Henkels knives, two of which were serrated. Never had them sharpened and after 21 years and demolishing our last turkey, I had to get them sharpened. I forgot what a pleasure a good, sharp knife is to use. I've been lucky enough to hear about this great knife maker years ago and live nearby. I finally contacted him to purchase a knife as a gift and Mr. Warren did not disappoint. I wanted a bird and trout knife with a slightly larger blade and sambar stag handles which he was able to accommodate. Living in the area Mr. Warren let me come by and pick it up which was nice and allowed me to talk with him for a bit about his process. He makes practically everything himself, even the sheaths. Extremely talented and makes a great beautiful product. Highly recommend! read more

I took my tac force outdoor knife the "karambit" to Al, I told him I wanted someone to sharpen my curved blade as I've been having difficulty finding someone that does this service in my local area, but al was very quick to respond and we set up a time to show up to his place of business and he got down to business and used his beautiful machinery to sharpen my blade, yes it is razor sharp as it should be, I highly recommend him, he's kind polite and has the right skill set read more

Al Warren has been making knives for over 40 years. He makes a variety of knives including fixed blades, slip joints, lock-back, and more. These also include other varieties of pocket and hunting knives. Some of the knives he creates may take 3-4 hours, while others can take well over 20 hours to make because all his knives are 100% handmade. Call today!

History

Established in 1980.

In 1978 I made my first knife while working as a tradesman saw filer in a Bend, Oregon sawmill. I had noticed some other saw filers working on knives during their breaks using the narrow tang design. In 1985 I participated in my first knife show at the Oregon Knife Collectors Association (OKCA) in Eugene, Oregon. Also, in 1985 I took some of my knives with Hawaiian Koa handles with me on a vacation to Hawaii. That proved to be a great market for many years with my knives selling on Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. I moved from central Oregon to California in 1988 to a higher paying sawmill job and a warmer climate, then began to participate in California knife shows. In 1990 I initiated my membership into the Knifemakers Guild. After five years, even though the Guild is a very prestigious and wonderful organization, I made the tough decision to end my membership since it just wasn't being cost effective for me.

Meet the Business Owner: Al W.

Born in McMinnville, OR Played football and was on the wrestling team for 4 years at Willamette High School in Eugene, Oregon. As a freshman, was on the Oregon State University wrestling team of 1962-63. Was in the Army from 1964 to 1967. Took care of avionics at Davidson U.S. Army Airfield, Ft Belvoir, VA. The last 5 months my duty station was at the Pentagon Heliport, taking care of the electronics. Went to LCCC, Eugene, for a 2 year degree in Electronic Engineering. Enjoyed rock climbing, bouldering and mountain climbing in the Eugene area and the Cascade Mts. Ski patrolled on the Santiam Pass Ski Patrol at Hoodoo Ski Bowl for 8 years. Wore orange helmet with "THE CAT" on it. In 1972 invented and developed a single ski called the Snow Snake. Taught First Aid for the Red Cross in Eugene and Bend, OR. I retired in Aug 2009 from working on saws in sawmills and now at 80 years old am close to being a retired knifemaker. My wife Lynda and I have been married for 41 years.

Fast forward to a few Saturdays later and had my knives in my bag properly wrapped and I was able to drop em off at Dave's booth.He let me know he had a few knives ahead of mine but to come back in an hour and he would have mine ready. After shopping at the market for an hour or so,I went back to grab my knives and they looked great.Dave went out of his way to explain what he did to the knives and telling me the reason they were dull in the first place,made me feel like a "mini" knife connoisseur after that informative conversation.Dave charges $3 an inch to sharpen knives,so not a bad value at all for such professional service. Once I got home I had to test these bad boys out and what a world of difference. Preface: Slavik, the owner of RSR, i.e., Roseville Shoe Repair replaced the main zipper for the Gianni Versace tote bag, re-sewed/reinforced the exterior seams, reinforced the interior silk compartment's lining seams, and replaced the interior tote's compartment zipper. In addition, Slavik replaced the black tote's warped, old zipper--replaced tote with a new zipper and sewed via attaching two new black leather tote handles due to the original handles were literally disintegrating. FYI and BTW: What are the reasons the inability throwing or recycling either tote bag away? Why waste money, energy, and time repairing two "worthless" tote bags, eh, Shirley? WELP . . . The service I received from Advance Disposal was top notch. They helped me figure out the right…read moresize dumpster for my garage clean out, even going so far as to do a quick drive by since my driveway is sloped. The day of the delivery the driver texted me before his arrival and even repositioned the dumpster for me. Pick up of the unit was super easy too! All of the staff are friendly and helpful. If I ever need a dumpster they will certainly get my business.
