I would not hire this company, and had a horrible experience with the owner. A quick summary: my apartment was not properly cleaned. I asked for a partial refund. I denied ALA's offer for a re-do because the apartment got staged shortly after the cleaning. The owner then offered to refund me just the workers' tips, meaning taking away the tips I gave to the workers. When I informed the owner that this was illegal, he swore at me over the phone. The issue: I asked ALA to clean my apartment after renovations. It had already been cleaned, but I wanted a deep clean before the unit was staged for photos. Additionally, the apartment was empty and had no furniture. I let ALA know that my building has a strict policy that cleaners need to be gone by 5 pm or I could be fined. I scheduled a cleaning with this in mind, and ALA confirmed via text that it could be done in time. We spoke with the owner over the phone as well, who was at first skeptical about the size of the job, but after hearing that the unit was previously cleaned, he re-confirmed that the job could be finished on time. On the day of the cleaning, I was informed that the cleaners left almost half an hour after 5 pm. Two cleaners had been cleaning for almost 5 hours. I went the following day and was shocked that the mirrors and windows had streaks, the floors were dusty, and the shower handles looked dirty. I told ALA that I was unhappy with the quality of the cleaning. They offered a re-do cleaning and then later a discount on a future cleaning job. I declined because I had furniture arriving the next day, and that I had already gone to clean what they had missed. So I asked if they could do a partial refund, which the owner and manager refused. Instead, they told me they could get the cleaning workers to refund the tips I gave them. This is illegal under California's labor laws. An employer can never take away tips from their workers. The fact that this was brought up made me incredibly uncomfortable, and I obviously declined. The manager apologized to me, and said she would notify the owner. When I finally got the owner on the phone, he got aggressive, berated me, talked over me, and used profanity. Attaching the text conversation for transparency. I am very disappointed. Toilet dirty, bathroom floors dirty, kitchen floor dirty. I have no idea how they got so many 5 star reviews. They were hired for 2 hours (2 people for 2 hours - 12:30 to 2:30pm) for $198 to do a basic cleaning of a vacant 300 square foot studio apartment with a full bathroom and full kitchen. I'd already mopped the living room floors and wiped all the flat surfaces 1 week before. The studio was empty except for the furniture. They came on Friday afternoon and I went in on Sunday morning to get ready for my new tenant. That's when I noticed the toilet bowl was still dirty. Then I started looking to see what else wasn't cleaned. I used a wet cloth on the bathroom floors and it came up very dirty. Also the kitchen floor had dog hair on it from the prior tenant's dog, so it appears that wasn't mopped either. At that point, I realized that I would need to clean the whole studio myself, since I had no idea what they'd actually done. I texted them about being disappointed in the cleaning. In my mind 2 people for 2 hours = 4 man hours of cleaning. So I said that I expected more for 4 hours of work over the texts. A man from ALA called and started speaking to me in a very loud voice and asking "why you sending all these texts?" "you only hire for 2 hours, not 4" "you need talk not text" etc. He kept talking and talking and not letting me answer his questions. Finally I tried to talk and he got beligerent with me and started saying that people like me always want them to do work for free. I have no idea who "people like me" are. But if "people like me" are people who expect a 2 hour basic cleaning of a tiny studio to include cleaning the toilet and mopping the bathroom and kitchen floors then, yes - I do expect them to do that. Then he asked what I want - do I want them to clean again or do I want a refund. My tenant is moving in NOW, so I don't have time to wait for them to come back and clean - it needs to be done right and it needs to be done today - so I'm going to need to do it myself. I said I wanted a refund. He said to text him how much I want for a refund. I took this call from the man from ALA on my car speaker and there was another person in the car with me who can vouch for what was said and how he said it. Then someone from ALA texted and asked me to text how much of a refund I want and my method of refund. I texted that I wanted a refund of $98 (half of what I paid) and my Venmo information. Considering the fact that we were going to need to spend hours re-cleaning the house I thought a refund of 1/2 was more than fair. Then - instead of a refund - they say they need 3 days to consider and that I need to send photos. I've already been cleaning for hours, so didn't have many photos to send. I sent some photos/video's (top of shower door filthy, cobwebs on walls, filthy vent fan and ceiling in shower, underneath of toilet seat dirty) - none of those are included in a basic cleaning so I agree that's it's ok they didn't do it. I sent a video of me using a white cloth to wipe the bathroom floor which came back filthy. Also I sent a photo of the dog hair on the kitchen floor. I'd cleaned the toilet bowl so didn't have a picture of that. These are basic items and should be included in a 2 hour for 2 people basic cleaning. ALA has replied to us via text that most of these areas are not included in the basic cleaning, that they did polish and clean the bathroom glass - which they claim takes a significant amount of time, that both people did work the 2 full hours, that due to the condition and age of the home and the amount of cleaning required that the cleaners completed a signifant amount in those 2 hours. I disagree. The home is a 1950's bungalow and I had just cleaned it up for photos last week. Toilets and bathroom floors and kitchen floors should absolutely be included in the 2 hours - even if that's the max we were willing to pay for. They'll also claim that they offered to send the cleaners to reassess, but we needed it done that day so I didn't have time for them to come back. They also informed us that they have serious concerns about the accuracy and circumstances of the photos we provided, including the dog hair. They have also told us via text that they will pursue any remedies available to them, including through small claims court, if our actions result in documented financial or repetitional harm to their business. I rarely take the time to write reviews. I just gave a 5 star review yesterday to someone who did yard clean-up for me. I've spend over an hour to write this 1 star review and make sure it is a fair representation of what happened. read more

I hired this company to do a move-out cleaning for my rental condo, including a carpet cleaning. They are one of the few cleaning services who also offer carpet-cleaning. The workers showed up when they promised to arrive and communicated with the help of an online translator. The administrator who booked the job and handled my payment communicated with me promptly and clearly via text messages since I was out of town and had to send a representative to meet them in my rental condo. The cleaning service seemed more than adequate, but we had one problem: the team didn't leave fans running or windows open to dry the carpet, nor did they instruct my representative to do so in my absence; as a result, the carpet smelled like mildew when my tenants arrived a couple days later. But Ben of Ecoclean/ALA Cleaning showed great integrity when I asked him to rewash the carpets for my unhappy tenants; he immediately sent over a team who re-washed the carpet and left fans and windows to finish the drying. I appreciated the professional attitude of this company and will probably hire them again in the future (especially now that we all know the importance of spelling out the post-carpet cleaning procedures). We have used a lot of cleaning services through the years in a variety of homes (highrise apartments, small ADUs, large single family homes). ALA is the very best provider we have ever had. They are responsive and easy to coordinate with. Their rates are very fair. Quite frankly, for the quality of work they do, they are an absolute bargain. The two professionals who have worked on our 3-story home multiple times are named Kara and Zhanna. We have had the great fortune of meeting many great cleaners, but Kara and Zhanna are the two nicest, hardest working, and best people we have ever met. They are so good that we almost want to keep them a secret so that they're available next time we need them haha! But people this great deserve to become known. Hands down the best we've worked with. Lastly, I saw a 1 star review below for this business. It noted that the cleaners "didn't speak English," so communication was difficult. If I were you, I would completely disregard this review. We have now worked with ALA and Kara and Zhanna 3 times, and each time they were perfect. He has now posted our address as a threat because he lacks the professionalism to take negative feedback. I have reported this company and its owner to YELP for violating the Terms of Service. I might add that YELP supports its customers and their reviews (see picture). We have somehow become extortionists and manipulators for being honest. The picture clearly shows YELP's stance on any owner's attempts to buy positive reviews or manipulate negative ones. We were told we would receive a refund only if we removed our 1-star reviews. After leaving a review here, Ben did reach out to me to help address the situation. They sent an "all new team" of cleaners and addressed the areas that were missed and offered to do even more (vacuum again, etc.). I politely declined because I already felt awkward with a new team back to fix those areas for free. While the deep cleaning service did finally get there, I was a bit disappointed that I had to go through all of this to correct it. Not to mention, I was hounded by management to update my review ASAP (as to not drag down their rating). They came by this past Friday; today is Monday (it's not even like that much time has elapsed). Overall, I would consider using them again, and I feel like I did finally get my money's worth, but it involved some drama and coordination to get it to the level I expected. I'm genuinely frustrated with the deep cleaning service I received--especially given the cost and their glowing reviews. It's been a few days since we moved in, and I'm still finding areas that were skipped or barely touched. I ended up calling my regular cleaning lady, and she did a far better job in just a few hours. I hired this company specifically because they claimed to use a rotary machine for floors and had strong reviews. They sent a two-person crew to deep clean a 2,600 sq ft house we were moving into, with an estimated time of 5-6 hours. To be clear, the house was in rough shape and needed serious cleaning. I asked that all cabinets be cleaned inside. Right away, I noticed the cleaner wiping cabinets with visible food debris using the same cloth, not switching it out, and not using disinfectant. When I pointed this out, he shook his head as if I was being unreasonable--which was honestly baffling. Throughout the day, I had to repeatedly point out things they were skipping: the oven, the refrigerator (which still had food grime in it), cobwebs on the walls, dirty baseboards, and the stovetop--even after I'd already directed them to clean the oven. I just realized today they never touched the range hood because I forgot to remind them, and they never cleaned it on their own. That speaks volumes. As for the floors, I was told the rotary machine wouldn't be effective because of the texture and that they needed a proper scrub. That was fine--but then they showed up without the right equipment. The only scrubber they had was a tiny handheld one you'd use in a bathtub. After a bunch of back and forth with their manager via calls and texts, I was given two choices: stop the work and wait for them to bring the proper tool, or proceed with the rotary machine anyway, knowing the results wouldn't be great. Since I had movers coming the next day, I had no choice but to proceed. But honestly, showing up to a deep cleaning job without the proper equipment is unprofessional. To their credit, the manager did reduce the final charge by one hour. I appreciated that gesture, but unfortunately, it doesn't make up for the overall poor quality of the work or the time I spent micromanaging the crew. I've used several cleaning services before and never had an experience this poor. This wasn't a deep clean--it was a rushed, superficial job that I had to supervise the entire time. I'd recommend this service if you need a last-minute deep clean and price is not a concern - they were able to accommodate my request in under 24 hours and showed up early. The booking process was very professional, and the women were both lovely. They are deep cleaners. This was my first time getting a deep clean and they really do a more throughout job. This was 3x as much as my usual cleaner, not including tip. Overall, it's a decent option in a pinch, but I'd recommend shopping around if you're looking for a better value.
