It does take a while but there are comfortable couches to chill and wait. Overall a great place to rest and eat. I'm afraid to try the other menu items, but I'm sure it's great. I love the Aladdin, and I don't even live in the neighborhood. I drive to the Ave, deal with the parking hassle and usually end up walking 4 or 5 blocks just to get to the place. Totally worth it, though. Where else can you get a kick-ass gyro and a fantastic piece of baklava in the middle of the night and still get change from your $10? If you want to have a seat, you can enjoy the cheesy decor and watch the grill masters at work. They don't say much, but they're good at cranking out the food. Sometimes the wait can be longer than 5 minutes, especially if they're busy, but the service always seems relatively quick. I usually grab my gyro and go, enjoying the walk back to my car (and the colorful people on the Ave) while I inhale the delicious, tender, spiced meaty goodness. I'm from San Diego originally, and I really miss a burrito from back home. When I went back home *for a week* this year, Aladdin's Gyro-cery is what I missed. The jumbo #9 (lamb & beef) is incredible, but order it spicy and get some chili sauce on that action. Unbelievable. Beyond incredible. Take it to go because the inside is tight and a little uncomfortable but the food is beyond words. The Aladdin fries are the best entree I've ever had (ask for extra sauce). The beef is unexplainably good and extremely tender with amazing flavor. The fries are okay by themselves but when covered with a hearty serving of garlic sauce and feta cheese become amazing. The gyros are good and on the healthier side, but I think the aladdin fries are the best thing on the menu. The shawarma is also incredible, chicken or beef. They have a few European sodas that are good. Prices are good and very convenient; they look odd on the wall because they end up being exact dollar amounts after seattle sales tax ($10 for Aladdin fries, $7 for a gyro). Are there more comfortable and clean places to eat? Yeah there are. Are there any places on the ave that compare in the realm of food? Sometimes the service is a bit subpar, and they charge 50 cents more for using a credit card, but the food makes up for it. I used to be a frequent customer of the place. The gyros here are pretty good. However, I've been having issues with receiving my food. The first incident, they totally forgot my order and approached me about 40 minutes later asking what my order was. The second time I went with a group, and everyone in my group received their order except me, which my group all ordered gyros like me. I noticed a couple people after me received their order. I then approached them after waiting 10 extra minutes, in which they said it would come up. I went in 5 minutes later after a few more orders were complete, in which they realized their mistake and brought it out shortly thereafter. This is the other place that kept me alive in college. I haven't been here in years, but I have fond memories. Judging from the other reviews, I doubt this place has changed much. Don't expect fine dining. This place is a really dumpy kasba. Truth be told, in college, my friends and I started going here only because it was close to Lander Hall and we could smoke inside. I learned about this place from my friends who went to UW, and I come here as often as I can when I am in town. I've been to many gyroceries (sp?) and this one by the U-District definitely gets my thumbs up. The staff is friendly, professional and very quick in their assembly of beef/lamb meat conveyances of awesome. =) I love the fact that I can call ahead when my wife and I have a hankering for a gyros. I am Egyptian, and let me tell you the food there is very authentic. The falafel are hands down one of the best I have ever had, they are up there with the ones you eat from local places in Egypt. The beef shawarma is absolutely delicious I loved it so much. I am a very picky eater when it comes to shawarma and it definitely met my standard. Loved everything about this restaurant, we got to order in Arabic which is something we have not done in years. The people that work there are very friendly, and enthusiastic about what they do. I was a little weary at first since Greek isn't the most vegetarian friendly cuisine but I actually found a delicious veggie falafel. My friend recommended to me to get the Greek fries which are absolutely to die for, and are a must if you choose to eat there. While this may look a little shabby, don't let appearances fool you. The staff are very nice and polite and the food is outstanding. One criticism I do have on the falafel is that the spices are a little overwhelming but that's a personal preference. The quality is pretty variable -- sometimes their fries are seasoned, sometimes they're not; sometimes the gyro is drenched and dripping with sauce, sometimes it's dry. I disagree with reviews that say they're consistent. They've also gotten my order wrong at least three times over the past few years when I've said "jumbo" or "combo" and ended getting handed a small sandwich by itself without fries. My roommate and I are touring the restaurants on University Ave. This is the 8th stop on our tour. This is a nice, cheap place with good quality food and a clean, spacious back room for seating. We ordered the beef and lamb gyro and the falafel. There was way too much sauce on both sandwiches, so they were pretty messy to eat. We got the meal and it comes with unsalted fries and a can of soda. Everything was cooked well and the pita was excellent. Pita and vegetables were very fresh. Best Shawarma in the area! Place is dirty... but is decent. Prices are really cheap. When I order my shawarma I ask for it to be extra spicy with the sauce cooked on the meat.... oooo it is the best that way. The lentil soup is also pretty good... the dolmades are nothing special. This place was the spot when I was a teen. They had hookahs and cool couches (when indoor smoking was legal...) I first went here Freshman year. The gyros were good, and they came with a heaping pile of delicious golden fries. Lately, I've been disappointed by the quality.
