Grilled chicken thigh with potato salad
    Ho T.

I ordered the side of potato salad with chicken thighs. It was fillet instead of bone in, which made me unhappy. The chicken thigh was seasoned and had grill marks to give it a visually appealing appearance. Every bite of the thigh was tasty, and the quantity size was appropriate. The potato salad is distinct; it tastes strongly of dill and has a smooth, mashed potato-like texture. The biscuit cake, which included layers of vanilla custard, biscuit/cookie, and crushed nuts on top, was phenomenal. I like how smooth and creamy the custard was, and I'm glad it wasn't overly sugary.

I'd never actually had Bulgarian food before so this was a new experience for me. Let me tell you, I couldn't believe how good it was. I've had a few things from here but the top 2 without a doubt are the Shopska salad and the Beef patty. The salad is light and refreshing and the beef patty is full of punch! What seasoning they use for it I have no idea - but it's outstanding! The portions are decent, and I've never eaten inside, only had take out so far, but I'll be coming back for more.

Menu is small but food was great! Fresh ingredients and friendly service too! Place your order at the counter. Open seating. Ventilation could be better due to the grilling. Definitely worth trying!

Sofia Grill is a small hidden gem in the burbs. The food is delicious, made to order, and simply flavored. It also makes the best chicken thighs (flattened & grilled!) I've ever eaten. Alexander greets you with a charming smile, and the small kitchen does their magic. Shopska salad is a fresh favorite, so are the hearty delicious soups they have on special rotations. Don't miss the crusty fresh baked loaf of bread! The condiment tray has the best imported season salt to shake on your foods, and a variety of oil and vinegars to customize your salads or veggies. Portions are generous. They do a lot of carryouts, and also cater events. Who knew Bulgarian food was so delicious?! It's one of our faves, and I try to visit frequently and you should, too!

As a typical ignorant American, I had never had any Bulgarian Cuisine prior to visiting Sofia Grill. With no idea what to expect, to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement! The food was phenomenally seasoned and grilled to perfection. With a large variety of meats, salads and soups, Sofia Grill has options for everyone to get a glimpse into the Bulgarian culture. A quaint environment with a view right to where the magic happens is a great atmosphere to enjoy your Bulgarian feast. And there is even a snack station for the kiddos to try some authentic Bulgarian sweets, candy, and chocolate. Since it was my introduction to the cuisine, I tried to order as much as I possibly could; we tried the Kebapcheta sausages, the Pork Chop, the Sofia Salad, the Roasted Pepper Salad, but the one that deserves first prize was the Tatar Meatball! This large patty-like meatball was dutifully flavored and served piping hot with a delicious mozzarella suprise inside. I just couldn't save some of it for later and ate the whole thing! And to complete this grand feast was the decadent HOMEMADE Biscuit Cake. Creamy marscapone layered between sweet biscuits, topped with walnuts and drizzled with caramel. This delicious dessert hit the spot and was gone within seconds!! Unfortunately I was too enamored with the food to even stop and take pictures before I wolfed it all down... Whether you are a Des Plaines local, an out-of-town tourist, or a food aficionado, you MUST stop at Sofia Grill for a window into the flavorful spices and delicious desserts of Bulgaria!

Authentic Bulgarian food! Meat is super fresh, perfectly seasoned. Casual Eastern European comfort food. Save room for homemade dessert, Absolutely delicious. Super family friendly.

This place has amazing food and I cannot recommend it enough. Reopened recently with new owners and staff and a friend took me there! Absolutely hits it out of the park! The meat is so tender and well seasoned you don't need salt, pepper, or any modifications! Fries are delicious, sides are delicious and everything is homemade so you can feel good about eating it! I will probably end up going every two weeks at least because I've craving it! Going this Friday!

I seen this new place open up. I thought I would give it a try. I never tried Bulgarian food, there's always a first for everything! I had a sampler plate with all different meats! From sausages to pork chops and chicken! All were sooooooo good!!!! So very juicy! I loved their Sofia patty. So tasty! The owner of the place was super friendly and helpful! I also ate some of their desserts and had to take some home with me. I definitely would go again!! Absolutely loved this little gem!! Enjoyed time out with my friends as well! Best day ever!

Very good food!!!!! Delicious dishes, beautiful presentation and wonderful dessert. I recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again.

I absolutely love octopus and figured I couldn't go wrong with it, but unfortunately, even that didn't compare to other places I've had it. That said, everything else is perfect. We ordered beef tongue, cheese bites mix, seafood mix, Balkan style meats, lamb chops, skirt steak, garash cake, creme brûlée. Portion sizes are large and great for sharing with friends or family. We did family style and shared everything. Prices were fair. Overall 4.5. -beef tongue 5 - kind of expensive but worth it. One of the best appetizers to get. Tons of flavor and very little chewing. -cheese bites mix 5 -feta and mozzarella cheese. The mozzarella sticks look different from your average American version. The cheese pull is not as stretchy but it's still well made. -seafood mix 5 - very fresh seafood. Perfect if you want to try a variety. The seafood is tender and moist. -Balkan style meats 4 - I love Balkan meats but the pork chop was painfully dry. The other meats were moist and robust. -lamb chops 5 - lamb chops cooked beautifully medium. Use the sauce provided. The rice was also very good. -skirt steak 5 - very tasty meat. It wasn't dry, cooked medium. Risotto was delicious. -garash cake 5 - The cake was light, not super rich. It's very good. -creme brûlée 5 - very creamy version of the creme brûlée. I never had one this creamy before.

The server I had was very nice, and made a great suggestion for one of the daily specials-pork tenderloin with Kaymac. On a weekday evening, as expected, the restaurant was not busy.  We were promptly seated at a 4-top table (2 × 2-top) against the right wall, with some other 2-tops on both sides.  Like many reviewers had mentioned, the venue was beautiful, modern and chic. There were 7 tables occupied, including us.  The music that they had was not too loud, just that customers' conversations were amplified by the box shape open dining area.  If we focused enough, we could hear every conversation if we wanted to.  This was obvious when a table of about 6 women got seated at a table near the front door, some of them laughed and talked very loudly.  My husband and I just found it funny and didn't let that bother us.  However, when the restaurant is filled on busier days, it might be a different story. Our server, Patrick, was very nice and attentive.  Since they did not list drinks on their menu except those with alcohol, I asked him about non-alcoholic drinks.  After a brief "discussion", he asked me to leave it to him to make me a drink with mango.  He came up with a beautiful drink that was good and refreshing, with some mango flavor.  It was Virgin Paloma on our receipt for $8, which was reasonable.  He was very polite and checked in on us several times at appropriate times during our dinner.  The pace of the dinner was good, we spent a total of an hour and 15 minutes in the restaurant. Patrick might be the only waiter serving all the tables that evening, though. I also ordered Grilled Octopus ($22) which was very good, tender and flavorful, but was a little too salty to my taste.  The small pita bread wedges were warm and fluffy with some crispy edges, the beet hummus was creamy, and everything was delicious and tasted fresh.  I generously shared 2 little bites of octopus with my husband and I finished the entire plate, it was so good!  My husband really liked his Spiked White Fish ($29) and I shared a bite of that too.  He also had a House Salad for $6, that was a very good value.  He enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc Crossing ($12) too.  We also shared an order of Crème Brulee ($8), that was creamy and cooked perfectly.  We ordered a takeout order of Rigatoni with Sausage ($23), that was a good portion, and was still delicious and al dente the next day after being microwaved. I am so happy that we found Social Inn - a hidden gem in Plaza del Prado, it's not far from home, with comfortable and beautiful ambiance, excellent service (from Patrick), an attractive menu with enticing food (fresh ingredients and appealing plating), and reasonable prices, we will definitely be back!

Chicago itself is dotted with stunning brownstones and Alinea gives you the opportunity to be invited inside of one. The glassware and plates are equally aesthetic and premium. I found the waitstaff to be efficient and observant but a bit checked out and bored. My meal was just not so delicious and I do not think the gastronomy was impressive or interesting enough to make up for that. Most of the offerings were bite size in nature which made it so apparent how off the balance of flavors was. The skate wing was tough and glazed in sticky aggressive tamarind. I was disappointed with the execution on a few of the other dishes like the un rendered duck fat of the main protein and thick dough of the famous truffle explosion. On a positive note the classic wine pairing was well curated and the Sommelier's descriptions were spot on. Stepping into Alinea was very cool for me as a foodie so I am not upset I checked it out but I did think I would enjoy it much more.
