I always walked by this place downtown and finally got to try it. The first thing I noticed is the wide variety of options and reasonable prices. Small hole in the wall and it's take out only. There was a korean couple running it. They were super friendly and efficient. The lady made sure I had everything I needed (condiments, utensils, etc). Stopped by for breakfast and got the sunshine plate. Got it with portuguese sausage and fried rice. For $8, it was a good amount and super satisfying. The eggs were cooked just the way I wanted and fried rice was good. They completed the order really quickly. Overall, I'll be back to try the other lunch options! Parking: It's downtown, so need to find parking somewhere, get dropped off, or walk from your workplace. You could probably park at the post office and walk over.

This is one of our go-to spots for lunch hour as it is always convenient and consistent. Just simply good comfort meals every time. Super friendly and speedy mom and pop spot!

Downtown Honolulu food that hits the spot and is easy on the wallet! Downtown employees, take note! I used to work in Downtown, and the thing I miss most about working in Downtown (besides carpooling with my hubby) is the choke AMAZING lunch options. Alakea Steak is one of those spots I miss. My usual order is the fried saimin with garlic steak. This plate's not even $10, and it holds me over two meals. I would call in my lunch from my office, order with the kind Korean uncle, then walk over to the restaurant while they're making my garlic steak saimin. Straightforward, but oh so yummy and inexpensive. The restaurant is straightforward too as the inside is pretty small with little seating.

This place is good, steak is tasty and decent price. Definitely get a large if you wanna feel fulfilled. Just tried the Hashbrown platter this morning, it was good as well, except it came with tater tots.

Business is located on Alakea and S King. Hours are from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. Takeout only because seating on counter had yellow tape. Owners are husband and wife. I haven't been here for over 1 year. There is a great selection on menu. Per male owner, you can order lunch at breakfast time. My order was pancake combo with scrambled eggs and Portuguese sausage. Pancakes are small size and moist. I will come back again for the cheeseburger.

First time here.I walk by here frequently & it's always busy! I was having a late (2:30pm) lunch & decided to try Alakea Steak - it wasn't crowded & was open until 4pm! I had regular sirloin steak with garlic ($1), and it was delicious! A good piece of meat, cut into bite size pieces and cooked just right, with lots of chunky garlic. I plan to return again soon! ;)

I enjoyed everything we ordered (via table tablet), the ttteok (rice cake) had the perfect soft/chew, both sauce and kimchi jjigae were flavored to my liking, and I kept grazing while my (low-ish) spice tolerance was struggling by every savory chew.. so I toggled between the fresh banchan, purple rice, tender slices of bossam, and shots of cold soju (to help forget my tastebuds embered into a small fire), without losing face in front of my spice-tolerant friends. I don't think they noticed... Service was fast and friendly, and the vibe all around was energetic but not deafeningly loud... like I didn't have to shout at my friends. We parked on the street bc the lot was full. This place was busy, and I can see why! Will definitely come back here again (& would not be opposed if we ordered the same things).

Everything came out fast and freshly cooked to perfection. Every dish was flavorful and delicious. I wish the Bossam came with more veggies because the meat to veggie ratio wasn't near equal. They don't have white rice here and only have purple rice which tastes fine. Overall, a bit pricey, but food quality and portions are excellent. Staff are fast and super friendly. Lots of tables to dine at. Parking lot is a bit small.

First off, all the complimentary banchan (Korean side dishes). From the classic kimchi, fishcake, cucumber kimchi, and radish. If you're doing take out, they still give you all of the banchan!v We did dine-in but take out / online orders seemed popular. But I loved dining in because of the Ajumma here! She was so sweet and funny, and even made the perfect bite (radish kimchi on top of the meat jun, so the acid offsets the oily fried jun) and fed it to my boyfriend LOL. We got a ton of food! The seafood soondabu soup, seafood korean pancake, seafood bibimbap, meat jun, and zucchini jun. We had a lot of leftovers that we took home. The food was good but it's really the service and love that makes this a 5-star experience.

The tofu was silky soft and fresh, soaking up all the flavor from the broth. The lunch set is a great value--you get soondubu bubbling hot, rice, and banchan that were all solid and well-seasoned. Portions were filling without being heavy, which makes it an ideal lunch option. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food came out fast even during lunch hours. This is definitely one of those places you crave when you want something warm, satisfying, and comforting. I'll absolutely be back for this again.

The premium AYCE option is around $60 per person, which would be reasonable if the quality matched the price. Unfortunately, it doesn't. We're from the Bay Area and have been to countless Korean BBQ restaurants with significantly better meat quality for the same price or less. To make matters worse, even at the highest-priced AYCE tier, fountain drinks aren't included. What really left a bad impression was the automatic 20% gratuity. Our group consisted of two separate parties of three people each. We were seated together at one large table with two grills, but we had separate bills, ordered different AYCE meats option, didn't share food, and made that CLEAR before ordering. The menu states that automatic gratuity applies to parties of five or more, yet we were still charged because we happened to sit together. Had we known this was their policy, we would have chosen another restaurant or sat at different areas of the restaurant. The reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because our servers were friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions about the menu and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Unfortunately, when we brought the gratuity issue to the manager, he insisted we were one large party despite us being separate parties with separate orders and separate checks. At the end of the day, the only difference was that we happened to be sitting at the same table. Overall, the service from the staff was great, but the overpriced food, disappointing meat quality, and questionable gratuity policy make it hard for me to recommend this place.
