You are NOT allowed to order the lunch special for one person, even if you're the only one to eat it. First & foremost, there's a really fine print at the bottom of the menu stating "A 18% gratuity tip will be added to the check". Just wanted to say that it is off of the TAXED total, not the subtotal. If the tip was off of the subtotal, then you tax the subtotal only, it comes out to almost 20% tip they added. This was off putting to us. FOOD (value & quality) 8/10 $33.99 was for the standard AYCE dinner. It included rice, salad, shoyu potatoes, kim chee, cucumbers, & mac salad for the side dishes. We were asked to order 4 meats to start, so we got kalbi (8/10), garlic short ribs (3/10 bland), brisket (8/10), & pork jowl (?/10) but they got our order wrong and gave us beef tongue (7/10) instead. These portions were pretty big! I recommend asking them for smaller/half portions for your first round. For the 2 of us, we ended up not needing to order more because there was so much meat. I would have liked to order other meats to try (and my pork jowl)! SERVICE (2/10) We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday night and there was only 1 other table on the grill side of the restaurant. Initial order taking, water, utensils, & side dishes were quick but after that, it was like we were forgotten. We had to flag someone down for everything (more napkins, chopsticks, sauce, grill change). Our waters were never filled and they only asked if we wanted to order more 1 time, after we flagged them down to change the grill. OVERALL: would not come back. This place is truly a hidden gem. They've been in business for 18+ years but due to the pandemic and their location, they're having a hard time obtaining new customers. Until they get more popular, there almost is never a wait. Which is very hard to find at any other yakiniku restaurant on the island. The meat is good quality. I am a Brisket & Beef Tongue person so I'm happy they offer both on the cheaper menu. I go here for convenience, not for the experience. Other restaurants will give you top tier hospitality and give you 2 pieces of meat nicely plated at a time. This restaurant will basically ask what you want and drop off a heaping plate of raw meat at your table and come back occasionally to fill water and to ask if you want another round. Oh, and they are BYOB but they have a few can soda options also. 15% Gratuity is included in the bill so you'll pay approximately $82 for two people. In my opinion, it's better than being finagled to tip 20%+ like other restaurants. This way, you just pay the bill as is and be on your way. Just ok. We've tried the regular cooked food option and it That was ok, nothing spectacular pretty mid. But today we tried the AYCE Yakiniku and it wasn't too bad priced at 32.99 or 39.99 per. The good: they give you a decent mounds of raw meat. The bad: their ban Chan is cheap as hell with salad lettuce, a pinch of sprouts, a pinch of Kim chee and a pinch of shoyu potatoes. The brisket was mediocre, the "kalbi meat" also mid and the salt kalbi was chewy as hell. Mid. You always have to chase the waitress down for any type of refills. What really was a huge negative is that they automatically slap on their tip with your bill. I'll tip cuz I'm not cheap but... taking tip against our will is highway robbery. 3 people with their imposed tip came out to $125.99. There are two styles. You can choose to do buffet Yakiniku (grill your own meat) or order from the regular menu where all the food is cooked and brought to you. Your seating will depend on if you do buffet or regular menu. It's a family style restaurant. Service is brisk. Make sure to know what to order and place it's all at once. The kim chee soup is a bit spicy and sour. Old Kim chee is great for your gut. Spicy cold noodles with buck wheat noodles are normally served with daikon and boiled egg. I was surprised I only got half a boiled egg. What happened to the other half? The apple slices were a nice and refreshing surprise. The star of lunch time meals here is the 3 meat combo. I got the BBQ chicken, Kalihi, and meat Jun. the meat Jun is thin and the egg covering is slightly sweet. If you want rice, you have to order a side servicing/small bowl of rice. Parking can be a little tough, bring a small car if you have it. They have AYCE but we went with the local style kalbi plate 24.95 and the kalbi/meat jun combo 19.95. Both good, kalbi came with 3 well marinated cuts, delicious. They start you with some seaweed soup, then the side dishes. banchan come. Our waitress was meh, clearly could see that we were low on water, but didn't do anything until we asked for more. But when we asked for more water, along with more banchan, she was on it. Don't let this local style BBQ place in Kalihi fool you, they might not look fancy, they don't have that high tech ventilation system to suck up all the smoke like the new fancy BBQ place. But I think they offer good deal for their meats and services. We come here because they have cow tongue, which is our favorite! If you go to H-mart to buy a box of cow tongue, you know how much that would cost you. Their short ribs, pork belly are also very good. You can order other items like soup, etc. they give us some small dishes, two bowl of rice that we never touched, (I should have told them take back to rice when they brought them and don't waste them) they also give us a small plate of salad. They changed our grill three times during our dinner which is nice. When the place gets busy, you may have to wait a bit for your meat to come. When we pay the bill at the end, they put 18% tips on our bill even we only have two people. BE AWARE of 18% tip added on automatic, I wish I could see the other review before I went to there tonight. The food is ok 7/10 and luckily I checked the bill (normally I don't check carefully) and noticed they added 18% tip for our two bill( we chose $39.99/person), and when I signed the receipt it shows 3 more options to add on more tips. FOOD -- As other reviewers have mentioned, this place has two styles: yakiniku (all you can eat, grill it yourself style) or order specific dishes from the menu for them to cook and bring it to you. Beef brisket and garlic shortribs were great! I was kind of disappointed with the flavor and texture of the korean kalbi after it was cooked. PRICE -- We did the regular yakiniku menu ($29.99), which includes korean kalbi, garlic shortribs, salted shortribs, brisket meat, beef tongue, garlic kobe meat, salted jobe meat, bbq beef, bbq chicken, bbq pork, pork belly, and pork jowl. Includes unlimited steamed rice, side dishes, salad, seaweed or bean paste stew, and a signature sauce. The pricier $38.99 menu is basically just the regular menu PLUS prime shortrib, ribeye, shrimp, dumpling, mountain tripe, beef intestine, and baby octopus. For two people who did the $29.99 yakiniku menu and a can of soda, the total was $80, which includes the tax and automatic 18% gratuity tip. SERVICE -- Most of the workers are elderly ladies. They are quick and efficient with replacing the grills and meats. They have a 1.5 hour time limit for dining in. AMBIANCE -- Came here on a Thursday evening at around 8pm. There were not a lot of customers in the overall restaurant. We were seated immiediately. The restaurant is divided into two sides for each order style. The yakiniku side had about five tables occupied, there were about four more table empty. There were less tables occupied in the ordering side. The place, visually/aesthetically, looks a little bit run down but everything is in working order. Good for casual eats, but not for special occasions. This place is in kalihi right next to guieb cafe. They have free parking outside but go on a random time because it does get busy and parking does fill up. So they seperate their sides because on one side of their restaurant you have all you can eat yakiniku and on the other side it's reg eating. Went to Han Yang and got a Kalbi and Meat Jun plate I was a bit disappointed in the amount of food on the plate there was one thinly sliced piece of short rib Kalbi and one piece of Meat Jun although the Meat Jun meat that they used seemed to be of higher quality of meat it was still disappointing that there was only one piece. The Kalbi did have a good flavor but was so thin it was like barely anything. The sides were pretty decent the Kim Chee had good flavor and the potatoes were good also there was bean sprouts and marinated seaweed also. Parking is a bit tight as it is in a busy little mall with other food establishments. The customer service was a bit lacking but not really bad. although I was a bit disappointed I'd try them again maybe getting something else or the all you can eat menu to see if it makes my experience better. read more

There was a fat block provided to oil the grill, but everything still stuck lol. You can order seaweed or soybean soup as well. I was surprised that the place was fairly busy, as I haven't heard much about this place since middle school. Normally Korean ladies in restaurants aren't too friendly but they're efficient, BUT all three of these ladies were pretty nice. After searching all over Honolulu for a good Korean restaurant to cater our baby's Dol (Korean first birthday party), we finally chose Hanyang--and it was absolutely the right decision. Without naming names, we tried nearly every Korean restaurant in Moiliili, Kaimuki, Kahala, Ala Moana, Pearlridge, Kalihi, and Salt Lake. Hanyang was the clear winner--hands down the best in both service and overall food quality. Other places fell short for various (and sometimes multiple) reasons: rice that was either too dry or too mushy, meats that were burnt, and disappointing or nonexistent banchan options. Planning a party is already stressful, and some restaurants made it harder--either handing me a flyer or telling me to take a picture of their catering menu. One shop owner even said, "I have to make 100 bentos?!" But from the moment I walked into Hanyang, the atmosphere was completely different. I was treated like a valued customer. David, the owner, welcomed me, showed me to a booth, offered tea and water, and sat down to talk through my ideas and the catering options available if we chose to work with them. To make sure we liked the food, I purchased five different plate lunches for my family to sample. We tried their kalbi, meat jun, BBQ chicken, spicy pork, and mandoo entrées, along with several banchan--bean sprouts, choi sum, shoyu potato, daikon kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and cabbage kimchi. Everything was delicious, but we especially loved the meat jun and mandoo with their special house sauce. In the end, Hanyang created three custom meal options specifically tailored to our event: a modified bento box, a child's meal (not on their menu), and even a baby/toddler meal (also not on their menu). Everything was thoughtfully designed to perfectly meet our needs. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, outstanding service, and a team willing to go the extra mile, I can't recommend Hanyang enough. I don't really care what others say because this is my opinion! I love coming here even though I don't eat beef. I know, I know...why go yakiniku when most items are beef? Because I like the pork belly and the of course the main thing, the people that I come with. It's like one of the last OG Korean yakiniku places in town. Every where else is very modern like now days and they serve in such small portions where you gotta keep calling them and wait for your meat to come. This place is in another level! You order and a nice big plate of meat comes out! Sometimes if you're lucky, uncle comes out with the whole pan and ask how much you like!! I wouldn't say it's fancy, as you can tell from the inside that it's been opened for some years now but what I'm more excited about is that they now have pork jowl!!!!! That's my next favorite next to pork belly!!! Not a lot of Korean yakiniku on island have pork jowl on the menu, so when I saw that they updated their menu with that added on I was super happy!!! Across Diners Drive In in Kalihi in the strip mall, next to all the newer restaurants ,& liquor store on the other corner( facing mauka). 4 in our group we all ordered combination plates. Kalbi, meatjun Mandoo, chicken, came with about 6 side dishes which we shared Kim chee, cucumber Kim chee, pickled radishes, all dishes came with white rice & seaweed soup.Every thing was tasty & there was ample food for everyone!
