Ambiance - 5/5 - classic Alamo experience, vintage, comfy chic with a great bar and people playing Mario kart in the lobby. Service - 4/5 - definitely attentive, quick to answer the buzzer and quick and quiet when waiting during the movie. They did get my order wrong a couple times, but I'll forgive them for being a packed film. Food - 4/5 - the Asian chicken sandwich was amazing, same menu as many other alamos so I could get the classics and check out the specials. It's not often that I write a review, but this is a great place to kick back, get some food & drinks while you're watching the previews, all with a great vibe and friendly service! The food is good but I have to tell you about this addicting popcorn I had there this week. It's called Pyrokinetic, and the flavor is out of this world. It's got a kick, but you can't stop eating it! It's topped with butter and cheddar cheese powder along with chilis, garlic and onion. Just this popcorn alone will get me back at least weekly! As a cinephile heard many about this chain over the years. Came on Monday night for the first time ever. Attended a speed dating event, then a screening of Crazy, Stupid Love. The movie is still funny about 10 years later. Ordering food in the theater is cool waiter comes through. There's a button you can push to get service as well. You fill out piece of paper with your order. They were out of milkshakes which I guess I get if you run out of ice cream over the weekend. Ended up ordering a Caesar salad and Arnold Palmer to eat during the movie. Got a blueberry Saison in the bar area from Whiner. The seats in the theater are new!! Recline well with space to kick your feet up. The ads/ music video before the movie pretty quirky and funny. They make sure to express the rules of being off your phone and not talking during the movie. I really appreciate it because at some other theater chains people will be on their phones during the movie and nothing happens. The posters, designs of the theater pretty welcoming. read more

The manager came into the theater and yelled at my friend and me for bringing in 1 outside snack into the movie. My friend has bad allergies to multiple foods, so it made sense to bring something from home for her to enjoy during the movie. Just as the movie began, this manager (who refused to tell her name) physically took her snack out of her hand. She yelled at her "How dare you!" It caused a scene. I apologized but she proceeded to take the food away. I asked if we could have it back at the end of the movie, but threw them out with no communication. And showed little respect for paying customers. read more

Horrible horrible movie experience! My friends and I came here for an 11pm showing. It from the start the service was horrible. 1. The shake machine was broken and the server (Queen) said "Yeah we are just as bad as McDonalds. It's always broken." 2. We wrote our order and pressed the buttons before the movie even started. I ordered chips and queso with a bottomless soda. Didn't get my drink till the middle of the movie and my food didn't arrive until 10 mins before the movie ended and it was COLD. My friends food also arrived late and cold and they even gave them the wrong food. Server also forgot straws. 3. We pressed the buttons soon after receiving the food for soda refills and the server came back saying "sorry our kitchen is closed" WE PAID FOR BOTTOMLESS SODA AND POPCORN AND DIDN'T GET 1 REFILL. 4. We asked for two separate checks before the movie started and she even charged my card with the $1 hold. I also had a gift card I wanted to use as well. At the end of the movie she handed us one check and charged us all on one bill... and she didn't even use my gift card. I had to go find her and ask for my gift card back... she seemed completely out of it and forgotten about my gift card. My friends and I were distracted the whole movie wondering when we were going to get our food. Yes it was a late show but that doesn't excuse the horrible experience. If you can't support an 11pm show then don't even give it as an option PERIOD. read more

The food and service here are so much better than a "normal" movie theatre. For the same price, if not cheaper, of a ticket and food, there's no reason not to come here for every film! Came to a late showing of the new Mario movie. First of their shake machine was broken and the waitress mentioned they're "just as bad as McDonald's". When we FINALLY got our food an hour into the film I asked for a soda refill and was told the kitchen was closed? So bottomless sodas are not bottomless, we ordered their i want everything (deluxe pretzel) and was just brought a regular pretzel after pressing the call button to correct the situation no one EVER returned for the entire length of the film. Along with when the pretzel came, our other appetizers that were ordered we're freezing cold. The quickest thing that did come though was the bill! And somehow despite the conversation that was written down before the movie started about having separate checks all of our bills were combined. One of my friends had a gift card that our waitress Queen had taken before the start of the movie to use on her bill, but since our bills were combined it wasn't used. After the movie she went to go grab it from the waitress who had no idea what she was talking about. She found it sitting on the counter and took it back. On top of that the waitress was high out of her mind just chilling in the back room. And they never even checked our tickets? So just walk on it! Being a native Texan I was so excited to bring my friends here after hyping up this movie theater to them. DO NOT COME HERE. I repeat DO NOT COME HERE. Overpriced, mediocre, terrible service, and will not be comparable to a Texas Alamo. Save your money and enjoy regal or AMC instead. read more

I first went to Alamo Drafthouse back in May to see the Little Mermaid and had a phenomenal experience. Our waiter who's name I unfortunately can't remember was excellent, attentive, and walked my partner and I through the process of ordering and how everything worked. Within minutes our food and drinks were quickly brought out (fried pickle spears which were delicious!), and we were able to enjoy our movie without any hiccups. Since then every single time we've gone we've ran into issues with staff either taking forever to bring the snacks we order or completely forgetting our bills so we couldn't leave once the movie was over. Overall, I really wanted to like Alamo Drafthouse more than I do because of the nostalgic vibe they have going on, however the continuous negative experiences have left me to take my business elsewhere. read more

A trip to the Drafthouse was always a highlight when visiting a friend in Austin. The best movie theater experiences of my life, hands down. When I saw that one was finally opening soon in Chicago, I was beyond giddy, and could not WAIT to have that world class experience in my hometown. However, this place is a pale imitation of its Texas kin. First of all, the servers were a constant presence against the big screen, and endlessly distracting. Very little effort to be unobtrusive. We showed up the minute we were allowed into our theater, and still did not get an order in until well into the movie. They seemed to be out of half of the menu. Then it took forever to get the food and drinks. Then we did not get everything we ordered. Also, instead of the drink my partner ordered, they brought her a tumbler of straight up vodka. We clearly weren't alone, as half the theater seemed to be upset and whispering urgently to the staff when they finally got their attention. This frustrating, distracting experience cost us around $100. I'd give one star for the cool design of the lobby/bar and most of the staff we encountered being really nice, but these aren't what we came here for and hardly make up for the high-priced, in-theater distraction fest. It blows my mind to type this, but I won't be back to the Alamo Drafthouse a mile from my home in Chicago. read more

The establishment is nice and the chairs are comfortable, the movie ticket prices are reasonable but that's about where the pros end. The order process for food/drinks is a tad cumbersome but I wasn't expecting that to be super easy. However, after ordering two Moscow mules before the movie started, 50 minutes went by with no drinks. Our order button was still pressed and finally a different server came and took the order again. We finally received our 17 dollar Moscow Mules, that tasted like simply vodka water. No ginger beer was to be tasted. All in all, if they could get the dining part down, it would be a pretty good experience, the building is cool and it has a unique ambiance to it. If I went back I would simply eat/drink before going and just go to see the movie and that's it. read more

We called their customer service to move the 3 tickets from Sunday to today. The guy didn't confirm that it's done so when we came today they didn't have my name in the system so I had to wait 30 minutes for the manager Dena to come and give me 2 tickets (i paid for 3). Finally I got them, got late for the movie and when we wanted to order food we're told we can' t do it since we're late (due their fault). We explain the situation to the waiter, she's rude, but she takes our order. Once the movie's finished, we're charged 2 times for the food. We go to complaint and the manager starts screaming to us, won't let us talk, putting her head down to the table while talking to us. I have never experienced worst customer service. The whole crew was so rude and unpolite. I'm so dissapointed. read more

I've been here several times for movie and dining and never had a bad experience. This review is focused on what I had last. Their buffalo wings and fries were sooo legit!!! The wings were covered in buffalo sauce that's bold in flavor and more tangy and spicy. Their fries are better than some burger bars I've been to in Chicago. Let me preface this by saying I'm a season pass holder and I live in Texas, I go to the locations around Austin ~3-4 times a week. This Alamo is DIRTY. The cupholders are rusty and possibly have a build up of food on them. The workers just wear typical clothing which isn't bad but it makes for a strange vibe. There are less theatres and showings than the ones I'm used to. Food was okay but the popcorn I ordered had butter on it despite me saying that I didn't want butter (Vegan). The theatre was also pretty small, said it was sold out but there were like a million open seats. read more

I'm from Texas and I love Alamo. This one is so updated and nice. The problem lies more with the service and value. We have rewards and having to go to concierge before ordering to redeem a coupon seems pretty redundant. The parking is also $10 after validation. I feel like it should be free given that you often buy tickets and a meal. Things can sometimes be missed when ordering. But overall one of the better movie theaters in the Chicago area read more

For anyone who's a fan of Alamo Drafthouse theaters, you'll be happy to see that Chicago has finally gotten one. I've been to two down in Austin, and this is just as good, if not better, than those 2. You start in the massive lobby, with a bar and filled with all these retro movie posters, often times the a foreign language version of them. They're all so big and cool to walk around and look at. The bar actually has a pretty decent craft beer selection, along with cocktails and wine. Plus they're served on old VHS cases as coasters. In the theater, you get to see a special custom reel of trailers and videos that pertain to the movie you're about to see, as you can imagine the one for Cocaine Bear was quite amusing. The food menu is pretty much the same as the other Alamo drafthouses, with maybe a few extra items. I got the breakfast sandwich, not bad, but my friend who got this specialty burger said it was really good and I wish I'd gotten that instead. You run your card with your server before the movie starts so you don't have to deal with all that at the end which is nice. It's located literally just south of Wrigley Field, which is a popular area, but thankfully they have their own parking garage in the same building, and it's only $10 with admission. I'd gladly come back, or even just come drink at the bar again to see that lobby. read more

Love this theatre, I think ticket prices are great and their food is excellent. However they do not prioritize getting customers water. My last visit it was extremely hot outside and I take medication that makes me extremely thirsty. We ordered food and beer but had to ask multiple people repeatedly to bring us water. The time before that we ordered water 30 mins before the movie started. Again ordered food and alcohol which arrived speedily but I did not get water till 40 mins into the movie more than an hour after I asked for it. I love coming here but every time I do I end up dehydrated. read more

I went to see Scream. It was basically an empty theater. The pre-previews were funny and different from what I usually see at AMC. I wrote my order, but they don't start coming until movie previews started, but I'm sure their's a method. It was quick and easy, if a little pricey. I love having a movie theater in the neighborhood. My one complaint, I was told they have a zero tolerance policy for noise in the theater. I purchased tickets for a 5pm showing of the Little Mermaid. The theater was supposed to require children to be 6 years old and older to attend the show. A couple came in with their 2 children, the youngest, clearly under 6. During the movie, the youngest child wouldn't stop talking. The mother never tried to quiet the child until I "shushed" them. We went to the movies here on a Saturday afternoon. Service was great, both at the bar and in the theater during the movie. We had drinks and just a pretzel, which was good. The movie was actually a little loud. Seats recline which my husband loves. Parking in the building (with validation for $10) made seeing a movie on a Cubs game day possible. Such a disappointment. I loved Alamo in Austin - but this was an epic fail. If you want a fun experience, good food, or to enjoy a movie, do not go here as it will let you down on every front. They didn't bring my food (which I ordered before the move started), still charged our group for it though. I had to explain this and my friend's double charged drink to the server during the climax of the movie as they blocked the screen (a common occurrence throughout as the servers aren't on a lower level like they are in Austin.) As compensation I got a free popcorn coupon. So bummed as I've been hoping they'd open an Alamo in Chicago since I moved here a decade ago. That it's this bad after they've had weeks to work the issues out, and it's now a national chain... definitely won't be back. Only pluses - the Cabernet was good and seats were comfy. read more

I spent about $80 and I honestly don't think it was worth it. My seat was dirty which I cleaned off myself. The options on the menu is a 3 out of 5. I arrived 45 minutes before and I sat at the bar and was confused because I was given one menu there but they did not list all the drink options. **OVERCHARGED, watch out. Hi! I came here Saturday night for the 10:40 Mario showing and had a really bad experience. My boyfriend and I came and found it odd that you have to order in the theater and can't pre-order at all before. Anyways, we did the process of writing our order down and the waiter guy came before the movie started and took our order: 1 cookie milkshake, 1 water, 1 iced tea, and 1 popcorn. Fast forward to about 20 minutes into the movie, the popcorn comes. 5 minutes later, the water. Then, the waiter runs over to us during the movie to tell us they're out of iced tea and so he will give us something else free of charge. We go with a lemonade which comes out about 5 minutes later. About an hour has passed and no milkshake. Finally when there's a boring part of the movie I ring the little buzzer for the waiter to come and ask when the milkshake is going to come. He then says he'll go check. He comes back 5 minutes later to tell me they're out of the stuff to make the cookie one but that I can have another milkshake "on the house". I let him know I'll go with a chocolate one, if it had not been offered as free I wouldn't order one since there was maybe 45 min of the movie left. 15 min later the milkshake comes. They drop off the bill about 10 minutes after and it comes out to be just the price for the popcorn (I think like $12, so I tip the waiter $5) I go and check my bank account today and see they've charged me $31.80!! They must've put the items they had said we're free and which were not originally on my final tab back on when they ran my card. I'd love to get in touch with someone to fix this. read more

Decided to come check out thiz place becauze it was cloze to my houze that I could walk. I almozt walked pazzed the entrance becauze it waz hard to mizz. It'z the same entrance az the UFC gym except you have to take the elevator. Upon walking in, it did have nice retro decor but that's it. I had to talk around to find the showing room. I came 5 minutes before the movie started. Not sure why the seat numbers are hard to find being on the lower side of the seat, but I eventually did. Az soon az I sat down a lady with a high pitched voice explained how to order. Az soon az she got to "I need a credit card on file", I told her I waznt sure if I waz going to order and she tried to say i couldn't once the movie started I politely declined. The seats are comfortable with the leg lift, they do not recline however. I would have liked to enjoyed the movie but the constant back and forth of food delivieres with the staff attempting to bend down prevented that as well as them missing and getting an order wrong from the people next to me. Our beers also took at least 30 minutes any time we ordered one. We even had a beer delivered right as the movie was ending.
