Rediculously Overrated & over priced for super cheap food. They charged us $163 for 2 meals and 2 drinks. The burger = 3 dry burger patties on a bed of bland white rice smothered with saucberry sauce. (Like a frozen saucberry steak dinner) The desert were two tiny pieces of cake that they sell at Aldi. I recently visited Tiki Terrace on a weekday with a larger group. I didn't make a reservation but they were easily able to accommodate our group since there wasn't a show that night. The inside has a fun, Hawaiian vibe that also is reflected in the drink and food menu. The music playing took you away from grey, cold Chicago which was exactly what we all needed! Our group ordered a wide variety of drinks as well as some appetizers to share. Our favorite drinks were the Pearl City Passion, Zombie, Pama Coco Delight, and Tiki Mai Tai. We loved the fun glasses and umbrellas that a lot of the drinks had. The drinks weren't overly acidic, sweet, nor tart. They were very balanced in flavor profiles which I appreciated. For food, we got the Taro Chips, Egg Rolls (half veg & half pork), Kid Kalua Pork Sliders, and all of our personal favorite... the Furikake Fries. You cannot go wrong ordering any of these to share! We popped in on a Wednesday night while visiting Chicago. My kids (ages 16 and 9) and I all enjoyed both the dinner and the show. The performances were done with integrity. The dancers seemed like they were enjoying themselves, singing along. It didn't come off like a money making act. I appreciated the history that came along with the different dances and how they were connected to certain islands. They did a good job interacting with the crowd and recognizing specials events such as birthdays, anniversaries, and retirements. For dinner, I got fish tacos, my daughter got the coconut chicken and my son got the chicken nuggets. The nuggets appeared to be the kind you'd get in the freezer section, not made in house. My picky eater would probably prefer those anyways. However, the fish tacos and coconut chicken were fresh and delicious. I'd eat either of them again but I was still thinking about the chicken days later. That was SO good! The little umbrellas in the drinks were another simple touch that won my kids over. I would give this place a 4-4.5 star rating. We came in on a Saturday night for ladies night. The decor of the restaurant was decorated so well in Hawaiian theme. The show is $50 per adult and you get a 3 course dinner included. They also have tons of tropical drinks you can order along with appetizers that cost extra. One of my friends ordered some appetizers for the table...... pot stickers (were just ok), traditional poke tuna (I would have opted for the California way just because the tomatoes that were mixed in was a weird choice for me), and the short ribs (these were phenomenal!!!! If I lived down here I would come here and just order those to go for dinner). You were also able to choose one option for dinner. Half of us chose the pork and half chose the salmon. Both were very good. The show was decent. Also had some audience participation. Would have liked to see some male performers but at the end of the show she did say there are different "acts" that rotate nights. You can tell there's real care behind the menu. Every dish we tried had its own personality, with great flavor and attention to detail. What really stands out, though, is how unique the overall experience is. Tilki Terrace doesn't feel like just another restaurant - it offers something different and something you will remember. It's the kind of place you'll want to tell your friends about! Recommend if you want to try something new! We feel like we learned things about a beautiful culture and got to be personally immersed - they like to call people up to the stage who are celebrating events. But that's pretty special, when else can you get first hand immersion like that. We showed up at 4:48pm and the place was empty. Like literally, not a single soul. They asked if we had a reservation and we didn't because we're not from the area and just dropped in. They asked us how many and we said 4. We have a 3.5 year old and a baby. The hostess, I assume, said she'd have to ask the server if they could take us. Like huh, servers make those decision? Where's the manager? She could've been the lady at the end of the bar on the phone who didn't acknowledge us when we walked in. Anyway I'm pretty sure the fact that we had kids was a factor in not letting us dine in. Couldn't tell you how the food was because they didn't let us dine in. read more

Loved it! My husband and I went there to celebrate my 50th birthday. The tiki terrace was so fun with its Hawaiian themed decor and ambiance made you feel like you were in Hawaii . The food was excellent: we ordered the pot stickers, coconut chicken, and Hawaiian style Salisbury steak with rice. Desserts were fantastic too. Really disappointing experience. The service was poor -- my first drink was undrinkable, and even though the waitress offered to replace it, I was charged for both drinks. Also I emailed the restaurant about the drinks and failed to get a response. The group we were with asked for a second drink that didn't come until the end of dinner- The room looks much larger online, but it's actually small and uncomfortably hot. It felt like the air was barely on as our group wiped sweat off our foreheads half the night. For three people, the bill came to over $300, which made the whole experience even worse. We each had "1" drink, two apps and the set menu you are to choose from. If you enjoy sweating through your night while watching an average show and drinking overpriced, mediocre cocktails, this might be your place. Otherwise, I'd skip it. read more

I reserved an early Saturday night dinner and show with my family. According to their website, it is recommended to arrive between 3:30 and 4:30 so that you get a chance to drink and eat before the show. We arrived at 4:15 and our table was right in the front, middle by the stage. Its $50 per adult and $23 per kid. That includes a salad, main course, dessert, and the show. Of we had to get drinks on top of that. Costs about $14 each for my Pina Colada and my husband's Mai Tai but they make it look so pretty! We also had an appetizer of Bora Bora Eggrolls, which is also an extra $12. They were crispy and tasty. The salad was delightful and fresh with the perfect dressing. My husband and I shared two meals: The Kalua Pork and Coconut Chicken. They were both delicious but I really enjoyed the Kalua Pork: so juicy & tender(as advertised on the menu) and that Guava BBQ sauce was yummy. The coconut chicken was well fried &.scrumptous. My almost 7 yr old ordered the kids cheeseburger with fries. That, too, was completely demolished. The show started around 5:20pm. This beautiful lady walks on stage blowing a horn and two other beautiful ladies walk on stage. The first lady was the main emcee and dancer herself while the other two were dancers. They all performed so well and kept us entertained. Mid show the Emcee announced all the birthday celebrants and anniversary celebrant. It was nice they were all acknowledged and I wish I had said on the reservation that I was celebrating something but I wasn't, and so I didn't. Near the end they called up some male volunteers on stage to follow and dance. A little audience participation is always fun. Although on the pricey side, overall it was a great experience. I sincerely have no idea how this plays, but have anything but four or five stars for their business because this is one of the best restaurants I've been to in quite a long time. Now keep in mind I've never had authentic Hawaiian food, but the taste, and the quality and the portions all seem so legit to me that whether or not in its place it's the mark for being truly authentic I may be able to speak to but can say it doesn't even matter because it's just that good. I wish, friend, I WISH you to have the experience that I had at The Tiki Terrace. I wish that your original dining partner would cancel at the 11th hour. I wish that you'd ask a friend and ask another, both willing to fill the seat, but both lamentably busy. And I wish you too would have the guts to then ask the person you really wanted to see if they would join you for a silly Wednesday dinner. If you're lucky like me, that special person says yes. If you're lucky like me, you pore over the menu, waiting in the cozy booth for your person to arrive. Again if you're lucky, you'll be delighted to see one another and will cheers over Mai Tais of both varieties, each enjoying your selection. Maybe you too will order taro chips appetizer, decidedly delightful and salty. Then, by chance you'll enjoy your salads and entrees as the show begins. As beautiful and intelligent people, you and your person might may take the trivia portion of the show very seriously. No doubt, the dancing will transport you to the islands. But here I must issue a warning- if your special person is particularly fiendish, they may see that YOU (yes, you, friend) get up on stage for a little watch and learn and dance for the whole room action. You will both love it and hate it, in the best possible way. The meal will fill you more than adequately, dear friend. But truly, what may fill you more - again, if you are as fortunate as me - is when your distinguished guest asks if they should cancel the plans they have for the rest of the night, as in, they're thinking about just hanging out with you more. This review is for the Hawaiian food truck that Tiki Terrace owns. Employees were all very nice and we got our food at a reasonable time. Prices were typical. The food looked great but the taste was a huge letdown. Spam musubi was alright, had decent flavor. Tasted different and not as flavorsome as the ones in Maui. Kahlua pork sliders did not have enough sauce. The pork itself was dry and too salty especially when you run out of the bread. Killa Combo with the Korean beef shortribs and garlic butter shrimp - 1/5. The shortribs were too chewy like you're eating a piece of beef jerky. The shrimp was meh, had no taste. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is because the Hawaiian mac and the pineapple mango cheesecake were good. With the cheesecake, the mango was very subtle. read more

While vacationing from Honolulu back in my home town, I called to make a reservation for 6 adults, I took the regular $49.50 per person package, hoping this place had changed for the better ( hell nah ! ) that's why I 'm only giving it 1 star again, just so I can get my review in. I spoke to real nice lady who wasn't that bright, I asked her; " I took the regular package of $49.50 per person, that comes up to about $ 297, as I understand it, taxes are included" she stated; " It'll probably go up ", I asked her; " Each one ? How much ?", she stated; " I don't know ", I asked her ; " Why is it going to go up ?", , she stated; ": " I don't know ". I told her; You don't know too much do you, why are you answering the phone ?, Listen Honey, I'm 69 years old, throw that bone to someone else, Mahalo ". I mean I understand that if I order anything outside of what is included in the package, it will be xtra, as it is, the food that is served in the package taste like trash , you have to order outside of what your package deal includes, to get the real good tasty food, like coconut shrimps , ice cream, and believe me, they are not cheap. As far as the ambiance , they have no fire dancers, if they did, then they could really call themselves a realistic trip to the Hawaiian islands. Can't wait to get back to the real thing. 5 stars for the experience as a whole! A little slice of Hawaii in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. You're greeted by tiki statue and decor in the outside and the inside truly transports you to another place. On our last visit the MC explained the the decor was designed and decorated by the original family that owns the place. Wear your Hawaiian shirt, your lei, and hang loose for the dinner/show which we've done twice. Most recently they do like a prix fixe meal with the show. This comes with a salad, your choice of entree, and dessert. You have also a number of appetizers you can add I highly recommended the Korean Short ribs/Kalbi and the Furikake Fries. The taro chips were also a hit at the table. Entrees were decent. But the drinks were definitely where it's at, they make some yummy and strong drinks here. The food is good but what you're really cooking here for is the show. It is like a luau in that way with traditional dances from various Polynesian islands. It's very entertaining, informative, and they use audience participation (just...FYI)! Reservations are required for the dinner shows. Our friend tried getting a reservation for a particular date and want getting a response but got one immediately for a date further out, so make your reservations early. They also recommend getting there earlier before the show so you can enjoy your food beforehand. I was invited to attend a lovely evening out on a weekend date night to this establishment. Upon entering the tiny strip mall in Des Plaines, I was excited to have that authentic Hawaii experience. The decorations within the restaurant reminded me of a local Tiki bar not too far from this location. We ordered some signature drinks which were wonderful. A bit strong, but I was satisfied with my drink. So far so good as the crowds started to trickle in slowly. The presented menu offered some interesting options to experience that island feel. The menu for this restaurant is structured in 3 course meal with a few upsell items. We decided to order the coconut shrimp which seemed fine, at least for an appetizer start. A tasty albeit smaller salad was provided in a wooden little bowl. Fine, it was great, fresh and tasty. We then decided to get the pork meal which is where the evening turned sideways. The pork presented had a very lackluster look and taste, similar to a high school cafeteria at best. It also had a cup of cheap bbq sauce with it, some coconut rice and Costco tub macaroni type salad. We were very disappointed in this meal especially after learning of the price being close to $50. I'm sorry this meal is not worth that price!!! The meal consisted of also a cheap sugary hostess cupcake type raspberry dessert which was barely edible. So after this lackluster meal, the hula show was somewhat acceptable with the DJ younger gentleman who guided us throughout the evening's performances. Now he was friendly and genuine from what we can gather, including the traditional tribal Hawaiian toga type attire. The hula show presentation was fine, but they cannot be serious in charging $50 for the meal because it was simply not worth it. I could get a backyard paper plate meal worth about $6 than this nonsense. The establishment should seriously re-evaluate their menu and the overall food quality. This place is so unprofessional. I spoke to four people trying to get someone to give me a quote for a party, two of whom I gave my wishlist and wants to and after two weeks of being bounced around, still had no quote. I initially spoke to a host and laid out what I wanted, apparently most of what I said didn't get passed on. Giselle, who handles their large party dine-ins was insanely rude via email and wouldn't answer a question no matter how many times I asked. After I finally got a call from someone (who happened to be the only polite person in this whole ordeal) she informed me that she was calling me back from my initial call that went unanswered for over a week. Finally one of the owners reached out and after a short email exchange, I got the call I wanted. He wouldn't stop talking, cutting me off multiple times as I told him what I was looking for and then immediately told me that my request "wouldn't be worth it for him" as my party was only 30 people. Nowhere on the website does it give a catering minimum. He was persistent in selling me a smaller package, even though we wanted something much larger. His assumption into my budget was highly insulting and after that conversation decided not to move forward with them. I've never had to try so hard to pay someone money. read more

I stopped by this place on a weekday evening before a dinner reservation I had at another place in the area. When I arrived around 5pm on a weekday evening, the only other person there was someone that appeared to be a regular. He was quite talkative. The bartender I had was really sweet to both of us. I've only been to a handful of other tiki bars in the Chicagoland area, so it was nice to try another one. I ordered the zombie. The zombie includes 4 different rums, and you can definitely taste it. The zombie is one of my most frequently ordered tiki drinks when I go out to these type of bars. This wasn't one of my favorite zombies, but I suspect that they may use lower quality rums than some of the other tiki bars I've gone to. As a result, there was a little bit more of a bite. Some people may assume that there is always going to be a bite in a drink with 4 rums, but this has definitely not always been the case with other places I've been to. There is a way to create more of a balance. The drink wasn't undrinkable or anything though. The reason I rate this place a 4 and not anything lower is because of the great service and prices. $8 for a tiki drink is inexpensive. I would love to come back on a night when they are doing one of their famous shows and try a different cocktail. read more

This small storefront embodies a delightful slice of South Seas culture - tiki décor, cocktails garnished with fruit and cutesy umbrellas, and live entertainment Like the culture, Polynesian cuisine can be diverse and sophisticated. But I challenge anyone to find truly authentic examples of this cuisine east of the San Andreas Fault. While this place does offer a brief but delightful respite from bleak winter weather, their luau does not wow me. Our most recent visit was on a "Hang Loose Wednesday." The bar's potent cocktails will surely loosen you up for what follows. I particularly like their flagship "The Original Mai Tai." My Missus prefers their Pina Colada. Of two shared appetizers, the taro chips with mango and pineapple salsa were tastier than the eggrolls. The dainty green salad with its Asian sesame dressing was very good; I only wish the portion was larger. A fixed menu of three entrees was served family-style. The Kalua pork, apart from its vaguely smoky flavor, was bland and not very juicy (no sauce). The breaded and deep-fried mahi-mahi (not grilled, per the menu) was as dry as a cotton plant in a drought. The coconut chicken fared better, but still no prize. Two accompanying sides, plain white rice that was more sticky than fluffy and cole slaw with little or no dressing, were as bland as food can possibly be. In the past, dinner shows offered a choice of three entrees and three sides, and each meal was individually plated The kitchen is stingy with sauces. When we asked our server to replenish the tiny shared ramekins of plum and sweet chili dipping sauces, she instead brought a squeeze bottle of spicy-hot sriracha. Thank goodness, the coconut cake was moist and didn't require sauce, sriracha or otherwise. Service was friendly but glacial. Both front and back rooms appeared to be understaffed. We waited at least 20 minutes for our beverages and one hour for the entrees. The hour-long show used to be hosted by a charismatic guy with a knack for encouraging audience participation and coaxing hearty laughter. Alas, he moved to Florida (I can't say I blame him!). I made a reservation here to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. My husband and I went here years ago when we first started dating and I thought it would be a fun place to celebrate with our family. Having gotten married on the Big Island and just recently returned from a 2 week trip to the islands, we can see how much this place is a complete joke! We recently went to the Te Au Moana luau on Maui and this place can't even compete. First they seat us to the side of the stage where we could not even see half of the show. This is despite making reservations MONTHS in advance. In Maui, your seats are based on when you book your reservation. We should have left when we saw our seats. I don't mind paying $50+ per person for a dinner show but if you can't see the show and the food is mediocre, it is $350 down the drain. Food: We ordered the taro chips and the kalbi short ribs as appetizers. The taro chips were just ok and the pineapple salsa was nothing special. It could have come from a jar. The short ribs were way too salty and barely edible! I got the coconut chicken for my entree. Again, it was just ok except they covered it in fresh cilantro. I'm one of those people who can't stand cilantro!! I wasn't expecting it in a hawaiian place. Service: Our waitress was nice but our food took forever to come out and our entrees did not arrive all together. We were a party of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids). Advice for the owners: It is never good to give a meal to one child and have the other wait an extra 10 minutes...for a cheeseburger!!! Ambiance: Very cheesy but expected when you saw the fake hibiscus plants at the outside entrance. Show: Again, SUPER cheesy. They don't even ATTEMPT to be a little authentic. The costumes look more like Hawaiian tourists playing dress up and would have been an insult to native Hawaiians. I would give 0 stars if I could. I was trying to place a large catering order and received pretty much ZERO communication. The only way to place an order is via email in which they do NOT respond to. I tried calling multiple times to check in and Phil is apparently never in at the restaurant nor is able to call you back regarding your order. Weeks have past and I have still not heard back after numerous calls and emails. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. There are many other great Hawaiian spots in the area that truly and graciously appreciate your business...and call you back. read more
