We called because the tire pressure light on our full size rental from Maui airport and a warning that the left rear tire was low popped up. We called Alamo (either a bad tire or a bad sensor). They said we would have to drive the hour back to the airport to return the car. Two of the people we spoke with (Chris and Chavonne sp?) actually hung up on us when we said this would take us 3 hours to resolve. Refused to send a replacement car because it was beyond the "corporate limit" of 16 miles. They obviously don't do preventative maintenance properly on their vehicles, which should make you a bit uncomfortable about renting from them. Their service was horrific. Thank god we were safe at our resort. What would have happened if we were stranded on the road? Update: Arne third person we called arranged to have the car towed and for an Uber to the rental car office. Still took considerable time. At the office we met with Roxanne, the manager. She was amazing and apologetic. She upgraded our car and offered a rebate. We still lost a lot of our vacation time but she really demonstrated a customer focused attitude. read more

Rented at Sheraton Ka'anapali with reservations 3 weeks in advance. When we came in they said they were short staffed and the car will be at least an hour late. The other option was a Uber ride to another hotel in hopes of getting something. So we lost 10% of our rental day on our vacation. Not happy. Why didn't they clean cars last night instead of waiting until immediately before people rented???? read more

I must share that it took five phone calls to get someone to help me with a car that was broken. But Colleen was amazing and took care of making sure another car would be waiting for us at Kahului because we had to drive the broken car back, hoping that it would make it.the fiasco ended great though because Isaac was absolutely amazing at your return station. He made sure he took everything down that was wrong with the car and got us a new car immediately. The guy was over the top and should get a raise. Because of Colleen and Isaac, I have to give a five star, but please know that you're 800 numbers have atrocious people answering them and they definitely need training read more

We rented a 2024 Nissan Sentra for seven days from Alamo at the Maui Airport (Nov. 12-19, 2024). The staff were excellent and their communication via text was fantastic. The day before we were leaving I texted them asking to drop the car off an hour later than what was previously planned. They replied yes and there would no extra charge. The staff at the counter when renting were very fast and efficient and the staff who helped when I returned the car were perfect and answered any questions I had right away. Called the Alamo in Lahaina and was greeted by such a kind, professional, and caring person! He sent a driver to the hotel, had a replacement car ready, guided the tow truck driver to return the car to the repair station and in less than 30 minutes we were back in vacation mode! Very bad customer service and unfriendly people! We had to come in to swap our vehicle because the check engine light was on. We previously had a Toyota Corolla from the airport Alamo (excellent customer service at that Alamo at the airport). We downgraded from a full size to a compact car because there was a special that you get a free tank of gas if you downgrade. Before bringing our car into this Alamo, we called customer service to confirm we can come to this location and swap our car because the check engine light was on. They confirmed we can do so. When we explain our situation to the ladies in front of the rental car shop, they say the free gas only applies to the compact car we had. We explained how this didn't feel fair because it wasn't our fault that our compact car's check engine light was on and we had only used 1/4 of its gas tank. The ladies were very rude and told us again that it only applies to the Corolla. Feeling frustrated, we just left because we didn't want to waste anymore of our vacation time. Save yourself the headache and go to the Kahului airport Alamo instead!! read more

Picked up my car on the 15th February Airlines location. The agent was rude and could not complete my reservation So a manager did . When we went out to pickup our Car we were hurrying thru the pickup. When I left the airport I noticed that The fuel was not full. It appears that This location short fills the cars hoping The renter would not notice as I did. This will be the last time I rent from Alamo. We got in at 6 pm and after leaving the boling hot non air conditioned airport and tired from travel, we stood in line for quite some time to get our rental. We were sent outside to choose our car, a mustang convertible. it was very dark in the lot and hard to see but we chose a white one with black roof. The next morning we noticed how dirty the car was! The windows so filthy you couldn't even see the scenery outside of them. There were ashes and dust on the counsel. The care could have been cleaned for sure for us. We did, however, enjoy the great a/c when we had to use it and the seats were comfy. No issues with the car at all other than it being dirty. Upon return we did tell an agent of the issue and Ikalka was nice enough to give us $100 in gift certificates for a future rental. It is easy to find and the shuttles run constantly. read more

The worst car rental experience I have ever had.... Paid for an upgrade..... Only thing was the upgrade had a close to dead battery in the key. The car did not have a secondary port to put in the key into the car. End result was We missed out date with a party of 13 on a dinner cruise for a friends 20 anniversary in Maui. Nothing Alamo can do on such quick notice and the cruise line cannot hold the boat or give a refund.... Only book another In the future when Amis and our friends are gone..... Thanks Alamo for for lousy preventive maintenance program.... Worst vacation of my life due to this..... I will continue to write poor reviews on Alamo until we get this resolved... Arrived at the airport, was shuttled to the Alamo car rental pick-up location. Picking up our reserved car was quick and easy. We reserved a large SUV for a family of five. We left and went to Costco to do our food run before heading to our resort. We had trouble starting the car, we drove the car back to the rental car facility and informed them of the problem. Trey was great, he was so apologetic he made the whole inconvenience more pleasant, he was polite and they even unloaded all our luggage and Costco run to the new rental car. He upgraded our vehicle for the inconvenience. Thank you Trey!!! read more

This was our first time renting with Alamo. We landed in Kapalua at about 08:40am called Alamo from one of the shuttle phones. The call connected but the staff member couldn't hear me and hung up. Obviously the mouthpiece was faulty. I called from the other phone and this time it worked fine. The staff member informed me the shuttle would arrive in about 30 minutes. This was QUITE a long wait, considering it would take me about 30-40 minutes to walk to their office down the road, but I thought, since I booked my rental for 10:00am, we could just sit around, relax abit, whilst taking in the views. However, after waiting for about 45 minutes, a lady in a Jeep turned up. She explained that a cruise ship had arrived and the usual shuttle bus was very busy doing trips back and forth. When we arrived at Alamo, the staff member at the desk processed us fairly quickly and we got our car after 10:00am. Upon returning the car the next day, the staff member was, again, quick to do his checks and shuttled us to Kapalua Airport with plenty of time to sit back and relax. read more

I rented a Nissan Sentra for a week. I noticed the next day that the car had a bad smell in the cab. I brought the car back to the Kahului Airport location and Gabi put me into a fully loaded Nissan Maxima, 3 upgrade from the Nissan. I was only intending to swap out the car. Gabi graciously made the upgrade without my request. She was very pleasant and professional projecting just the kind of image Alamo strives for. Alamo Rental car- Maui Terrible Service- First, we rented a mid size car and actually received a small "Versa" car. We were quoted $41.00 per day for four days. We asked that we may want to extend for 2 additional days and was quoted the same price to add days. So we called the morning at the end of 4 days and was quoted $140.00 per day for the additional 2 days. I did not agree and they charged a total of $330 for a small compact car. I asked for the modification to be sent to my email to confirm pricing, he claimed that they were not able? They had great difficulty finding my reservation giving them a last name. Spent almost 20 minutes on phone to resolve. Terrible customer service! Will never use Alamo/National again! read more

Four stars for the helpful front desk staff, negative stars for the guy working in the garage on 3/10/13. Picked up a rental van at the airport, but after a few days we noticed the tires were soft. We took it back here to get some air pumped into them. The guy at the garage was not happy with our request. He begrudgingly pumped up all but one tire (wtf?) My husband said "there's still one more tire." He ignored him, so my husband repeated, "there's still another tire to do." He snapped "I heard you!" He then insisted that it was fine and refused to pump it up. We drove it back home, and sure enough-- the one tire looked really saggy. My dad feared a possible tire blowout, so we took it back to the shop. Our friend in the garage was not too pleased to see us. He said "I TOLD you it doesn't NEED air! The indicator light isn't even on!" (FYI- the indicator light only comes on under critical conditions.) After several minutes of hemming and hawing, my dad asked plainly, "what is the pressure in that tire?" He answered "32 psi." We said "it needs to be at 36 according to the manual." After shooting another condescending look, he finally pumped it up. Easily the worst treatment we've experienced in all of Hawaii. Next time we're going with Enterprise. read more

We originally got our car from Kalahuli airport (Nissan Versa) but by the time we reached our hotel an hour later, we realized the cigarette lighter didn't function and we wouldn't be able to power our GPS. Luckily there was an Alamo nearby. We called the airport Alamo to make sure we could switch out our car here and were assured the Lahaina Alamo would accommodate us. When we reached the office, the woman we spoke to told us she couldn't help us because she didn't have anything in our car class. After telling her we were assured she could help us, she snapped "Well, I guess I'm gonna have to give you a triple upgrade!" She seemed disgusted with the whole situation. Just based on this experience I would say do NOT come to this location. read more

We just got back from a wonderful 10 day stay in beautiful Maui! We waited until we got to the hotel to rent a car and the alamo office was just one block away from our villa. They came and picked us up and had a wide variety of cars to choose from. We dealt with Julie and Stephanie both ladies were very professional and fun to deal with :-) My friend hurt her leg zip lining very early into our vacation and we ended up trading a convertible for an eaiser to get into and more space for a walker SUV. The ladies were so helpful and got us taken care of quickly and best of all for a very fair rate! I highly recommend the ka'anapli office for a car rental, I sure felt like a VIP and they made what could have been a nightmare into a dream vacation! We will definitely book through them the next time we are in Maui! Oh just a tip all the resort parking spaces and many spaces throughout maui are just enough room for a compact car! Best for you to check out your space before renting a car. I think we would have had a really tough time parking in a full size vehicle ;-) read more

These guys were a wonderful compared to the ordeal we went through with the airlines. We were a party of 9 that was split down to 3 to be the 1st to arrive in Maui. We had 2 family members and myself, (1 disabled in a wheel chair) trying to collect 15 pieces of luggage! Alamo's staff picked us up with their bus, loaded us on while getting my family member strapped on in her chair! We wen through the paperwork quickly and we were on our way! We chose the next best looking, least dinged car, but it also had a slight odor we didn't identify until later as B.O. Airing out the car helped. Not going back to Alamo. read more

Even though there was a huge line when we arrived once we finally got to the office they moved us through pretty quickly. It was a easy process to rent and pick up. The reason for only 3 stars was we rented a Jeep which is a more expensive rental so we were expecting a little more bells and whistles. Well it did not have automatic locks or even a USB port. Landed in Maui and picked up our Tahoe. Car was not cleaned prior to pick up. Back seats we found covered in white stuff. Ice cream spoons in doors. Back tire kept showing flat no matter what we did. Then add insult to injury my son came down with a middle ear infection and he wasn't cleared to travel. I called to extend for 2 days and offered medical note and was charged full rate for the 2 days. Dirty car, and no help. Just wow. I realize now why I stick with enterprise now. read more

A rental is a must in Hawaii if you want to explore and really see the island. I have always found that renting when you get to Hawaii ALWAYS gets you the best price especially during the off season. Our Mustang convert was clean and new. The staff was great and the pick up and delivery at Kahalui was prompt. No waiting and a super fast check in and out. read more

Alamo no longer offers a shuttle to the cruise ship even though they say they do. They left me stranded and said i needed to call a cab. This after I specifically made the reservation with the understanding that they had a shuttle. Of course by the time I found that there was no shutlle there were no more cars at the other rent a car outfits because of all the demand from the cruise ships in port. Thanks for not honoring your agreement. What a lousy way to screw me out of my one day in Maui. read more

We picked up our compact car (Ford Fiesta) from the Kahului airport location at about 10:30pm local (1:30am our time). We were very tired and picked the car because the seats were comfy. After a day or 2 of driving it, it was a VERY uncomfortable ride. There was no "oomph" to it. The transmission lagged and it was very hard to get going. We went to the Ka'anapali location and explained, asking if we could perhaps exchange for another compact. Although the man at the desk was very kind he advised all of the cars there were under reservation. However they would be happy to bring a car down from Kahului for us and meet up later. We didn't want to hang around the condo waiting so we said we'd just drive up the next day and get it ourself. Then from the back a lady who I'm guessing was the location Manager came out after hearing all of this and wanted to see what we were talking about. We drove a ways with her and she explained it was normal for this size of engine. Regardless, she allowed us to make a switch with a full size vehicle that had just been returned. Both cars were half full of gas, so we did an "even" exchange - just like that - and we were off! She easily could have charged us for the larger vehicle but she didn't, nor did she have to come out from the back at all. We wouldn't have known the difference. I was so terribly impressed by their customer service and regret not getting her name. They were wonderful and I would definitely recommend Alamo Maui!!! Mahalo! read more

I rented my car in kahului but was staying in Kaanapali. On the third day, the low tire pressure lights will not go away - even after putting air into them. For safety reasons, I requested for car change at their Lahaina office - and I spoke to a person named Stefan. He refuses to give me a replacement saying that there is a cruise ship coming the next day and all of them are taken. I said I was assured by Customer service that they can help me. And I also said aren't you suppose to be concerned about the safety of your current passengers? He still refuses but I said I refuse to leave without a replacement. Stefan finally gave in and gave us a beat up tiny Ford Focus (a downgrade from an SUV/Minivan). But I took it for safety reason and after a day, the wheel on the car started wiggling overtime we switch gears. I refused to return to the Lahaina office and went to the Kahului branch -- and guess what within 5 minutes, I was in an almost brand new Car and they apologized for the inconvenience -- something I never got from the arrogant and snooty people at the Alamo Lahaina office. Another reviewer complained about the hesitancy of these people to service cars and customers from Kahului. Stay away form these people. they do not care about anything except their bottom line!!! read more
