Rented an intermediate SUV via Costco for 4 days. The car rental counter is in the airport by baggage claim so that was very convenient. Check in staff was friendly and the car was ready to go after signing the forms. We got a Jeep Compass, the backseat and trunk area were a bit dirty like it needed a vacuum. Even though the Jeep was 2024, there were scratches and scuffs so make sure you take a good video or pics when you get your car. The returning of the car was different than when you return a car rental at other airports. There was no attendant that checks the car to verify any damages, mileage or that you're returning with a full tank. You just park in any numbered spots and bring back the keys to the counter in the airport. I took a picture of the mileage and full tank to show the staff when I dropped the keys off as a just in case. I would note that since there are no staff outside when picking up or dropping off the car rental, you document the condition of your car (via videos or pics) at pick up and return to avoid any future hassles of potential damages. read more

I recently rented a car from Alamo in Rapid City, SC, through the Costco website, and had the best rental car experience I've probably had in more than 20 years! I was politely greeted at the rental counter, was advised the best way to get to my destination, and was given a map that highlighted many national parks and other areas that I might have otherwise overlooked. The individual also told me about special events that were occurring at the time. The return was equally easy. I would definitely recommend Alamo at the Rapid City airport! read more

All was well until almost back home. got a call from manager Sandman accusing alleged damage to vehicle. Instead of dropping keys in the box at the counter I waited to hand keys to Chris, the attendant at the counter. When asked for him to step outside to inspect the vehicle, was told not necessary. I parked it right out the door so it was easy to inspect. Was surprised Chris didn't want to inspect but the people at the counter were exceptionally professional and awesome. It's the manager that lacks people skills. I don't mind being responsible but not guilty of what I'm being accused of. Search the internet and you will see lots of complaints regarding customers being charged for fictitious damages. Not happy with Sandman. read more

If I could I would give them a negative review! Warning do not rent your car here. I returned my rental here from Montana. Not only did I witness them have the person picking up a car sign a waiver saying there was no damage to the car they hadn't even seen yet (is that even legal). They told them just to send pics if there is damage. They called me the next day to say that there was damage to my drop off. No one even checked the car with me before or after drop off. Yes there was damage and I took pictures. One to find out they told me they already claimed the damage from a previous driver and are still trying to charge me even though they already collected. Even with the pictures I sent showing there was damage. How can they legally hold someone responsible if no one even checked the cars???? Awful customer service. Predatory business practices. We booked a minivan in February for a week in July starting the 12th in Rapid City South Dakota. Our rate was just under 600 for the week. We flew out this week thru Chicago. Storms shut down the airport and we lost a day. Alamo now said our rental was 3000 for the remainder of our trip since it was a new reservation. Or we could get a small car for $1500. This is predator behavior. I offered to pay for the missed day like I actually there and this was unacceptable to them. I envisioned them wringing their hands greedily. We switched rental to Enterprise. My goal is to make sure everyone I am networked with knows what their business practices are. They cost me ultimately 100's of dollars of additional expenses, heartburn and grief. Avoid them like they have the plague. read more

I made a reservation back in January 2023 to rent three cars in June for our vacation of 21 people. We decided to change the flight a day earlier a week after we made the reservations. So I called the company and changed it to Saturday instead of Sunday they said everything is confirmed, your reservation is now for Saturday. I called today to confirm that everything is still on track. I gave them my confirmation number and they said we see you were booked for Sunday and I told him no I made changes to Saturday. They asked what time I would be coming in and I told him 1 PM and they said sorry we do not have any vehicles available. So I told them I made changes to the reservation back in January. To Saturday and they confirmed it what the hell is going on. They said we are sorry we don't have any vehicles available so I said if they would've told me that in January, I would have canceled the reservation and gone with someone else now I'm having to spend more money by finding three vehicles two days before my flight. All the reply was sorry nothing I can do and hang up. Do not use this company. read more

My sister and I had a great rental experience with Alamo! We walked right up to the counter and I could see that all of the keys were clearly labeled with those that had reservations with the times that people were coming in. Nick explained everything very clearly and honestly, we were out of there within 10 minutes to start our vacation. Returning the rental car was just as easy! We gave them the information they needed (current mileage and how many miles were left in the car) and the gal said that we were all set! I'm really unsure why some others had awful experiences. Terrible experience. The customer service agent is very rude. We took a rental car at 12.05 PM. By the time we got the documents from the service rep and the key it was almost 10 mins since we first printed the document. The return of the car was for 12.30 PM printed on the document. We returned the car at 1.10 PM. The service rep charged us for whole 2 hours. I was okay with paying 1 hour of extra rental time but 2 hours was too much. The service rep would not listen. This is the right example of bad customer service. I am sure the 10 minutes extra would not cost them much. We even cleaned the car (water wash) since it got dirty. I have never had customer reps from rental agencies argue so much about 10 minutes. Anyways I would never rent from them again. They are terrible. read more

Traveling with my two grandkids, I rented a midsized SUV in Rockford,Il. Noticed the tires were bad in Sioux Falls, where they had no cars to exchange. I went to the Rapid City office and the assistant manager, Lesa, was extremely helpful. She gave me two cars to choose from, upgraded us to a full sized SUV, and then took some charges off of my bill to compensate for the trouble. Couldn't ask for better service! read more

Will not give a refund. Used auto one week, reserved for two weeks. Father has liver cancer and had to cut trip short. How a business can refuse under circumstances is crazy. They say third party paid and to go through them. Well, they get their money from the third party, why can't they refund and then work with the third party. Alamo will never see my business again. I've traveled frequently for both work and vacation and have rented many cars from many companies in the US. This rivals the top two experiences I've ever had with car rentals. The lady who checked me in was the most efficient/fast rental car employee ever. I know this doesn't really say much, so I'll put some metrics on it... took me 1-2 minutes form start to finish for her to find my reservation, finish the paper work, and get me on my way with my keys. The return was even quicker ... no lines, just park your car into an allotted National/Alamo space, note your mileage and gas and return your keys back at the counter. On the very slight chance that I ever return to RAP, I'll definitely rent from them again. read more

Let me start out by saying make sure you save all your documentation when you pick up your vehicle. A week after we turned the rental in at the end of our trip I got an email from the damage recovery unit. So I called them up to find out what damage they were talking about and said that there was a ton of hail damage done to the vehicle I said well how is that possible when the vehicle three out of the five days was parked Inside a parking structure we drove from the airport to The hotel we took the vehicle out one day to the Badlands and park in the exact same spot and then drove it to the airport the last day. It rained a total of 30 minutes the whole time we were there but yet somehow the vehicle got hail damage and they are blaming us. When we picked up the vehicle it was noted on our paperwork that there was a ton of hail damage to the hood and the roof of the vehicle. I even went back in and told him there's a bunch of 1 to 2 inch scratches on the passenger side on the door of the gas cover and etc. they said they're not worried about 1 to 2 inch scratchers more dollar bill size. So word of advice take pictures of your car if you rent from Rapid City airport. I wish I would've read the reviews before hand of how many times they try ripping people off and make them pay for something they didn't do. read more
