Been going here for many years. With the change in the law recently, the price for the inspection for Travis County is supposed to be $11.50. Today, I got my car inspected and Alan said he mis-typed the rate on my Inspection Report as $11.50 and that I owed $18.50. I looked confused and even asked about the new law. He just said it's still changing and I owed $18.50. Since they charge a $0.75 fee for credit card charges, I handed him a $20. He was hesitant to give my full change. I called DPS to confirm the rate was supposed to be $11.50. Tried calling Alan's Vehicle Inspection but no one answers. HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS - They've lost a loyal customer. I will still be charged an extra $7.50 by the state when I get my registration sticker! read more

Alan's provides an incredibly valuable service and the employees don't even take breaks so that you can get your car inspected. literally everyone here that gave a bad review did so because they got yelled at. They got yelled at because despite there being a line of cars they decided that they were going to be first and just drive up into the bay ignoring all the warning signs and direction signs being selfish and putting peoples lives in danger. If you don't appreciate their service or you can't read signs or you feel so self entitled that you need to be first and to heck with everyone else, go to jiffy lube. Don't waste your time or money here. I got my inspection done here and went to file online for my new tag there was no paper work to be found. I went back to the place to see what they could do and they were so rude and not helpful. The guy mentioned they have about 3-5 customers a day this happens to. Pretty straight forward experience. I came, I saw, I got inspected. Well, my car did anyway. From the time I handed the man my car key to when he came back inside the oh-so-air conditioned office, only four and half minutes had passed. It was quick, painless, and even a titch pleasant as the gentleman who took care of my car smiled and made small talk. I have gone to Sticker Stop in the past, but routinely had an hour or more wait so when I drove by Alan's today and didn't see a line I decided to try them for my inspection this year. I will definitely return next year thanks to a fast, thorough & overall excellent experience. I pulled up to his shop and an older bearded man walked out to me shaking his head at me smoking a cigarette. You could tell he was not happy. I was still sitting in my car and he says abruptly turn it around, back it up and park on the street, I gotta drive back and forth right here and I can't do it with you parked here. Not very friendly, so I just responded, I was just wanting to give you some business and I've never been here before. He said, well we'll park on the street is all I'm saying.. Female friendly and veteran friendly! I've got to say this has been the best experience I've had at an inspection establishment by far. I rolled up, they were prompt to acknowledge me, quick to do their inspection and very friendly. They noticed a Marine Corps sticker on the trunk of my car, asked me if I served (which I did) and thanked me for my service and waived the cost. That really means a lot to me. As a woman, I typically get asked if my husband served or get told to thank my husband for his service. I'm not even married. It was incredibly refreshing for them to ask if I had served instead of assuming it belonged to a male in my life. Overall, the guys were easy to speak to and I was in and out before I even had the chance to get comfortable. Top notch establishment! read more

Had my car inspected and the inspector was rude. Felt like I was bothering him by giving him my business. Printed out receipt which he left on my front seat but the printer was running super low on ink and you can't even read it. And then my car seat was all messed up. Waiting room is dirty. read more

Avoid the young kid who works there. He doesn't know the laws and is not friendly. He failed me for something I could have fixed around back of the shop in a couple of minutes with a pocketknife because he was in such a big hurry to get to the rich people waiting just behind me. Yes, sorry my car is old, but at least I deserve friendly service like the next guy. Look for the tall guy or the older skinnier guy. They are usually there, and are very straight up with you. Avoid at all cost. Didn't send the update to the state for the inspection and I had to go to the County Tax Office and spend 3 hours. Also didn't want to deal with it when I called them...they wouldn't even look in their system to see if it was updated. This was at the 620 location. read more

I have used the Lakeway location for several years and never had a problem. Today after the inspection was complete without a problem, I was unable to locate my insurance certificate. The inspector, Francisco Banda, swore he gave it back to me, but because of the Coronavirus I had not been within 20 ft of him throughout the process. The other inspector helped me look for it and it was eventually found on the passenger side of the car in the footwell. I made the comment that Banda did not give it back to me, when he became abusive and insolent. I will not go back and recommend others do not patronize this location. read more
