I thought a simple deli sandwich, but no, these were packed with more meat than I've ever had on a deli sandwich. It was robust and delicious. Obviously, the views were the highlight. I booked this tour months in advance to ensure we would be able to go. The check in started an hour…read moreprior to departure and as you boarded one of the staff members was offering to take a group picture with life ring. The staff was friendly and the captain greeted everyone. They do forewarn about sea sickness, losing items like a hat and also safety to prevent falling overboard. Things they obviously have no control over is who will get seasick (they had Dramamine and ginger chews for purchase) , what the weather is like, and what sealife you may or may not see. Additionally they must stay a good distance away from from the animals for safety reasons. They do have a bar for alcoholic beverages, sandwiches that are part of the package (turkey, beef, vegetarian with option for gluten free bread), but you may wish to bring your own food and snacks. My best advice: - book the tour early - get in line early so you can get a seat outside the main cabin (good views and helps reduce some of the sea sickness) - bring or purchase some dramamine - bring sunglasses - bring binoculars to better view the sealife and glaciers - make sure you have warm clothing that you can easily secure given the high winds - know that no two people will have the same experience and that you may have good weather and animal sighting or you may not

We had a great time with the Puffin crew! Four halibut, two rockfish, and a cod made this a day to…read moreremember. The captain (Manny) dropped us right on top of a great halibut spot. Within minutes of lines going in the water, fish started coming out. The entire boat caught their "overs", and most of us caught our "unders" by 11AM. Manny moved the boat to new spots to find rockfish, salmon and smaller halibuts. The deckhand Bora was quick to help with the tackle, and cleaned the fish on our way back to shore. My wife was horribly seasick most of the day. Manny and Bora were quite helpful. Luckily, she still managed to pull in a few halibut. We'd highly recommend Puffin Charters!

Captain Will is the kind of captain who clearly loves what he does, and it shows. He's friendly and happy to chat about fishing or the best fish to eat, but he's also constantly scanning the boat, making sure the deckhands are on top of the lines, watching the weather, and keeping everyone on the fish. That balance inspired so much confidence. The trip was fun from start to finish, but you also knew you were in capable hands, which is a big deal when you've traveled three hours offshore, fish for six hours, and then have another three-hour ride back to port. Will is a true professional who has earned our trust and respect. The deckhands were just as impressive. Cole brought so much enthusiasm to the trip. He was patient with our questions, genuinely excited to be out on the water, and his energy was contagious. Joe was one of the hardest-working deckhands we've ever seen. He was constantly moving, grabbing the net, helping land fish, getting rods back into position, and making sure everyone had the best opportunity to catch fish. He absolutely crushed it while keeping a positive attitude all day. A few tips for anyone considering this trip: * Wear layers like you're going skiing, and don't forget rain gear, gloves, and a warm hat. We had cold, rainy weather, but we stayed comfortable and had a fantastic time. * Tip the crew well. They work incredibly hard from the moment you leave the dock until you're back. They absolutely earn it. * The crew does a great job making sure everyone has a fair shot at catching fish. We came home with halibut, rockfish, salmon, and even a salmon shark. * If you're not flying home immediately with a cooler, have J-Dock process and ship your fish. It's well worth it to make sure your catch arrives home in great condition. Landing a salmon shark definitely added an extra level of excitement to our trip, but even without that unforgettable moment, this would have been an incredible adventure. The professionalism, knowledge, and personalities of Captain Will, Cole, and Joe made all the difference. We left with amazing memories, incredible fish, and an experience we'll be talking about for years. We can't recommend J-Dock highly enough.

I think this is a really wonderful trail that is 16 miles long. I've hiked in from Primrose and…read morecamped at Lost Lake, which is about 7-8 miles in and is amazing in scenery changes. I also hike in from the other side to hit up Dale Clemens cabin which is 2.5 on the winter trail. One time I tried to find the cabin from the summer trail and we got lost, so I'd like to think I've hiked about 12 miles of this trail total. Looking back it would have been great to have continued on and ended in Seward when I overnighted at the lake, but I just didn't have all the facts at the time. There is a creek near both trails for water if needed, and the terrain goes from mossy woods to hiking through a mountain pass not unlike the gap of Rohan. If you come from the Primrose side there is an old mining cabin off to the side, about 4 miles up, and has a wheel in the water that I think was used for power. It's an interesting feature to the hike that is worth the stop. I would come again and hopefully complete the entire trail sometime.
