    Salmon!!!!
    grace s.

Me and my husband went fishing with Adam and it was our fist time fly and salmon fishing. Adam was a great instructor that we were able to get to see the fun of fly fishing!!! I couldn't catch until the end of the trip, but Adam was patient and he waited until I did catch and he even caught for me to reel in so I can get the feel of it. He even had us try different fishing while we move from one spot to another and we saw dolly and rainbow trout (catch and release) and the river he took us to was beautiful. All gears were clean and Adam ensure we get them a good use. We are planning to come back in a year or two and we sure will ask Adam to be our guide again. He is the BEST!!! Just call or text message the number you see on yelp and he will contact you super fast. Don't wait or try to find anyone else, Adam is the person for you!!! p.s. Don't bring a banana on the trip

    Filling the quota!

Had an awesome two days with Adam. Great guy that makes sure you are having a great experience.

Happy float trip down the upper Kenai river.

My wife gave me a book entitled, Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die. To be honest I am unsure if the upper Kenai river is included there, but perhaps it should be. Although the Kenai is probably more famous for the salmon runs which arrive during various times of the year (think World Record Chinook, combat Sockeye fishing at the confluence with the Russian river), fun can also be had on the upper (quieter) stretch of this river. This is especially true if you go along with guide, Adam Snyder. First, I was referred to his website (5dogsfishing.com) through another guide service who works out of Cooper Landing, AK. Second, although this is his first year as a stand alone company, Adam has been fishing and living on these waters for well over a decade. This is his backyard home water; he knows it well. My family and I took a 4-hour float during the week of July 4th. I have fly-fished many times before, my wife had only fly-fished once before and my eight-year old son had never been. This is a perfect trip as an introduction to fly fishing. That said, one really does not have to be terribly proficient with the fly rod in order to be successful on this river. Adam is patient and instructive, happily taking time to set my son up with a spinning rod to drag plugs through promising fish holding areas. Everything necessary for fishing was provided (quality rods and reels, indicators, split shot, and appropriate flies). He also provided boot waders, waterproof jackets and PFDs for the boat. Just buy your Alaska DFG license (on line) and show up. The beauty of the river cannot be ignored. It is a chalky blue-green color, stemming from the suspended glacial silt. The temperature on the day was moderate, with partial sun breaking through the clouds. My son spotted a bald eagle in the trees above. We caught fish, all were released to the river (see photos). No trophy rainbows this time, but we were in between Sockeye runs. My wife made the comment that Adam's personality was a perfect match for us. Gentle, knowledgeable, patient and a consummate professional in every way. I like to see good, hardworking people succeed. Adam is one of the good, and a true steward of the land. He has genuine respect for the river and the fish in it; they are his livelihood. Every time I get on the plane to leave Alaska, I ask myself when will I be able to come back? Next time, I'll be sure to drop 5DogsFishing a line.

We were a group of three friends, out in Alaska for a short weekend in early September. We wanted to discover this beautiful place and thought some fishing was right in the spirit... Well, we nailed it! This afternoon spent with Adam was one of the most exciting experiences we had in a long while! I mean really, if there was only thing I could keep from this last year of my life, I want to spend it with Adam on his boat! Adam will gladly lend you all the outfit you need, and you're off for a wonderful ride on the Kenai river where he drives you to the most amazing places. Adam explains all sorts of interesting facts about fishes, tips and tricks, stories, experience. And he is funny. You know, like, you laugh. Wonderful atmosphere, so much fun, lots of fishes and incredible ones! You can fish both from the boat and from the banks, Adam will accommodate any crazy idea you might have to make it wonderful and successful. Just so you know, we were complete beginners (almost never fished before) and there was no issue. I'm sure Adam can accommodate any level anyway. The only drawback : the road is not so far away from the river at some spots, but you won't notice it much, the ride is so awesome! If you have the opportunity, please... do not hesitate a second and run to Five Dogs Fishing! You'll have the best afternoon. Anyway, I know that's what I'm gonna do when I'm back in Alaska!

This is a long overdue for one of the best fishing experiences of our lives! Adam and his wife are true gems and were so accommodating and knowledgable from the start when we made our reservation to when they dropped us off to our campground after our float trip. We didn't have a car in cooper landing so they picked us up and dropped us off before and after. We were there last summer at a pretty slow time for fishing. The reds were at the tail end of their run, and the silvers were just starting. So make sure you time it right when you journey out here. It just couldn't be helped in our situation. But with Adams knowledge and help I caught the biggest rainbow trout of my life and my boyfriend caught a bunch of reds, dolly varden and trout. We brought a piece home to grill over the campfire. Adam cleaned and gutted the fish for us. We went on a cold and misty day and Adam provided hot cocoa to sip on as we drifted down the river. Adam was so positive the whole time, informative, and just a fun guy to share a boat with for 6 hours. When we come back, we'll definitely call up Adam! The setting is beautiful, the people are wonderful, and it's definitely an adventure of a lifetime.

    Reds!

Top notch gear, setting and service. I don't think you'll find a better guide on the Kenai. Adam and his wife are first rate and we'd go again in a heartbeat. Thanks guys! Hope to float with you again soon.

    Thanks Adam!

Adam is a great guide and knows the spots to set you up to land the big one on the Kenai. He's super knowledgeable and friendly and will make your day out one to remember, did for us!

Adam is a fantastic guide and his wife Danette was great at handling all the logistics and even recommending places to stay, eat, etc... We did half day trip for Salmon and trout. It was a small group of 4 (my wife and I and then another couple we didn't know) so he let us decide if we wanted to go for trout at the beginning and then salmon or skip trout (since you can't keep any of them) and get a guaranteed better salmon spot. We decided to just head straight for the salmon. It was nice that he let us decide. Neither of us had ever fly fished before and he was great at explaining and showing us how. Don't be afraid if you haven't fly fished before. He makes it really easy. We ended up catching 11 between the 4 of us but went soft and only kept a couple to eat ;-) As reference, the group literally 50 yards upstream from us caught nothing so he definitely does something right!!! I would highly recommend these guys!!

Alex with a fantastic rainbow trout on the line. Kenai River, 6/15/15 with Five Dogs Fishing.

Our captain, Mike, made sure we had every opportunity to see the sights and find the wildlife. He often turned the boat to make sure all the guests could see the wildlife. They served lunch which was burrito (choice of either southwestern chicken or vegetarian) and a few hours later a warm chocolate chip cookie. The staff also went around to show some animal collection, helped us locate the animals that were being pointed out by the captain, took our photos, answered questions, ensured our safety and even fished a chunk of ice near the glacier and let people touch and have photos with it. We saw many animals including whales, orcas, sea otters, sea lions, different birds including puffins, bald eagles, etc. We went close to glaciers. The captain was very knowledgeable. The 6-hour cruise was memorable! For the most part the waters were calm; there were certain areas that were rough. Even then, we were told that the water was calmest when we visited on that day in June. For some who have have motion sickness, bringing a medication can be helpful (though I think they also sell some on board) though we did not need any. Layering is still the key with an outer shell that is waterproof in case it rains. Though not necessary really, binoculars can enhance the experience. Would definitely recommend!
