I was accompanying my husband to see Dr. Ali Alavi. I had a deeply disturbing and unacceptable experience with him. During the visit, the doctor became upset over a difference in political views and began verbally attacking me in front of the staff and other patients in the lobby. He used offensive and degrading language in Persian (Fasrsi), including calling me a highly inappropriate and derogatory name. This behavior was completely unprofessional, abusive, and humiliating. I was left shaking for hours afterward due to the emotional distress it caused. No patient should ever be subjected to verbal abuse, discrimination, or intimidation- especially in a medical environment where respect, safety, and professionalism are expected. I strongly urge others to reconsider seeking care here. Respect, dignity, and basic human decency should never be compromised in healthcare. It is my moral responsibility to report him to the Medical Board to make sure no one else is abused like I was. God bless America. read more

Making an appointment was easy. Staff were nice. When meet doctor felt he was knowledgeable and made you feel at ease.

Dr. Alavi has been my urologist for years. He listens to my concerns and addresses them. He has changed my treatment as needed. He is aware and implements the latest in his treatment for me. He's is the very best! read more

Dr. Alavi overbooks his appointments. You wait 45 minutes to an hour in the waiting room, then another half hour in the exam room before he rushes in and gets you out as fast as possible. Terrible bed side manners and is rude and condescending. Worst doctor I've ever been to. read more

Front desk-My patient was bedridden, extremely weak and fragile, and near death (patient died a month after this appointment), so I asked for a zoom instead of in-person appointment. They rudely insisted they don't do zoom and when I asked what an in-office examination entails they rudely said they just do a full examination, without explaining further. The attitude was one of restrained impatience. Front desk is uncoordinated and lacks communication. Because they refused to do Zoom, I had to pay exorbitant amount of money to hire a gurney service to transport my patient to the office, not to mention the danger and pain inflicted when a fragile patient is moved. The examination turned out to be no examination. Nothing was done. Dr. Alavi merely came in and told us information, most of which we already knew. This visit could've definitely been done over a phone or zoom call. He didn't even examine the patient. He came in without greeting and just started talking. His demeanor and comments were at times rude, unprofessional, and erratic. Zero stars for all the above reasons which indicate that this office does not care about patients, even for those near death. read more

I would not recommend Dr Alavi! I went in for a kidney stone on July 7th and he told me these take time and to basically just wait it out. They did ultrasound a week later and the following week when I saw him (3weeks with stone now) he said stone had not moved and I would need surgery to remove it. I asked how soon can I have surgery, and he says oh it will be awhile as we are booked up! I mentioned I have a trip coming up in a Sept and he says I doubt it will be before then! I called his scheduling dept 2 days later and was told he will be on vacation until Sept 22nd! This would mean I would have this stone for 3 months! SERIOUSLY 3 MONTHS! I ended up in emergency room again a few days later and they referred me to UCI in ORANGE. I called and they got me in that same day with Dr Daniel Dwikla and he already has me scheduled for surgery. I would recommended if you can, to go to UCI they really take your issues seriously. read more

This office is disorganized and a mess with their communication. I was referred here about a month and a half ago. Called to schedule an appointment and get some basic info. They put me down for the first available (about 6 weeks out) after asking my name, phone number and type of insurance. The gentleman I spoke with was about to hang up before I got a chance to ask a few questions. I asked to confirm that they are in my insurance network and find out what I needed to do to prepare for the appointment. He told me they would call me about a week before my appointment to go over everything. OK. Odd, as I work in Healthcare and it's not such a good idea for your schedule health to leave anything until the last minute when it comes to confirming benefits and making sure the patient has what they need to help you both be ready for the first visit. I added the appointment to my calendar as a reminder and let it be. Fast forward to the day before my appointment. I'm at work and get a short voicemail that says "we're calling to confirm your appointment for tomorrow. Thanks. Bye" (basically). I call back and ask for details and whether or not we're able to confirm that I'm in network. I'm then corrected by the lady on the other end that "no, we always confirm insurance at the time of scheduling ". I kindly repeat to her that I asked about this when I scheduled (it wasn't suggested) and was told i would receive a call a week prior. She was then even more agitated and insisted that this wasn't their policy and I must be mistaken. OK it wasn't worth arguing so I let it go and the next day came in at my scheduled time. I was then asked if I completed my paperwork and if I had that ready for them. What paperwork? This was never mentioned on either of my calls. "We would have sent you the paperwork ahead of time ". Nope again. How could they? They never asked for my email or address or??. Oh well. I was then handed a stack of paperwork which I took to my seat in the lobby to fill out. I should mention that the second lady I spoke with at the front desk was very friendly and kind, unlike anyone else had been up to this point. Only reason this isn't a one star review. I then waited for 45 minutes. No one checked in on me or explained the wait. I walked out nearly 50 minutes after my appointment time. I would not expect this level of service from my clinic staff and this mill house operation will definitely not be having me as a patient or waisting any more of my time. I can't speak to the doctor's care or service because we never got that far. read more

I recently had to go with my brother for a follow-up emergency room visit to his urologist DR. ALAVI and I had to write this review because I found the DR understanding of the situation and his staff were great. They got my brother in quickly and his follow up appts have been just as the first everyone was patient, caring, understanding of situation and helped me understand what was going on and what I needed to do to guide my brother. If u ever need to see a urologist I suggest seeing DR. ALAVI and his staff. They are above and beyond most these days. My hat is off to them for CARING read more

This doctor's office has the rudest, most unprofessional front office staff, I have EVER in my life had to deal with!!! I have spoken to the office manager previously who is aware of the issue but as much as I still have to call for my husband's care, they don't seem to care or improve. One receptionist hung up on my husband and then had the audacity to give us a fake name "Maria" after I called back! I had to call again this morning for a follow up, and the woman who answered the phone sounded so annoyed, hating her job and was rude telling me she can do me a favor and squeeze us in but we would wait for over an hour. When I repeated the appointment time and date, she sighed as I was causing her such an inconvenience. I cannot stand calling this office. Dr. Alavi is kind and professional from the two times we have seen him but if I was able to skip having to deal with the front office, dear God, I would pay to do so. We switched our insurance to a PPO, effective July 1st just to avoid this awful office! read more

Dr. Ali Alavi - Fullerton Urology, Fullerton CA I was refereed to Dr. Alavi by my primary care physician when my PSA numbers were suspiciously high. Upon my initial visit with Dr. Alavi he recommended performing a Prostate Biopsy in order to determine if the cause of my elevated numbers was cancer. Two weeks later said biopsy was performed by Dr. Alavi after which I made a follow-up appointment for the reading of the results. This follow-up meeting is in essence the reason for this public review. When Dr. Alavi entered the examination room where I was waiting, His first words were "I have some bad news and I have some good news. The bad news is you have cancer. The good news is we caught it early". Only someone who was in my exact position at that exact time could understand the flood of emotions and questions rushing in at light speed. He sat down and did ask me how and what I was feeling. He did offer hope for a positive outcome based on my low pathology scores. I feel I do need to acknowledge that much. However, this is where it took a dark turn. He handed me a book about Prostate Cancer and told me to read it while making an appointment with a radiation therapist (of their choosing) for consolation. Then, come back in two weeks and discuss how I wanted to proceed. At this point he was on his way out the door of the examination room and on to his next patient. I started to press him about the options, side effects, recommendations, etc. like any normal person would do after 10 minutes earlier being told they had prostate cancer. He told me he did not have the time to go into the whole subject of Urology and again told me to read the book. At this point he was starting to become irritated with me. Again, I pressed with more questions at which point he said "Read the stupid book and come back in two weeks"! He exited the room and basically left me there in an utter state of shock. After relating this experience to my family and friends, I was encouraged to seek another Urologist at which I agreed. The next week I was at Keck Medicine of USC where my now new Urologist took more than an hour to lay out all of the options, side effects, recommendations, etc, etc. to me and my wife. I was treated with a level of empathy and care you would expect. Within two days I had decided on surgery to have my prostate removed which was the best option given my low numbers. NOT RADIATION as hinted at my Dr. Alavi. Dr. Alavi should have taken the exact same approach with me upon delivering my diagnosis. He should have carved out an hour of his schedule to do so. But with group clinics like Fullerton Urology, it's all about quantity not quality. A University setting like USC does operate that way. It gets better. Four months later I received a Denial of Service letter from my insurance company for a test Dr. Alavi ran without my knowledge. A test which cost in excess of five thousand dollars. This specific test involved gene mapping using my biopsy samples. Not only did he use an Out-Of-Network lab, but did so without my approval. A test by the way, was completely unnecessary as confirmed by USC. Two weeks ago, my prostate surgery was performed and the pathology results confirmed the cancer was contained. Had I continued with Dr. Alavi I would probably be on radiation which as I stated, should have never been given as a viable option. Oh, and this Radiation Therapist I spoke of? He was refereed by Fullerton Urology. As a result of my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Dr. Ali Alavi. Always get a second opinion. read more

Dr. Alavi has been my urologist for almost 10 years now. I've always had great peace of mind with his care. I never feel rushed and he always takes the time to answer all of my questions and explain things in detail. He seems to genuinely care for the well being of his patients. I am also extremely grateful for his staff who have gone above and beyond several times to help me out when I was in a real jam and without their help probably would have ended up having to go to the emergency room. read more
