Through a lark I decided to change doctors to get a urologist closer to home. The new doctor referred me to Dr. Gelman. As it turns out, Dr. Gelman's office is very close to where I live and he's been doing urethral reconstruction since 1998 - and that's all he does. Dr. Gelman went out of his way to describe the two procedure options and the likely outcome for each. He also did a good job setting up expectations and time-tables. The procedure went very well - in fact I had my 64th birthday the day after the procedure - and I am now fully recovered. I can urinate without restriction and without any kind of urethral "management". And let me once again emphasize - urethral reconstruction is all he does! People come to see him from across the country - and from around the world.

I get an annual Pap smear and it's completely covered but this year I was charged $40 for my office visit and another $40 for the Pap smear testing (from labcorp) so $80 for a visit that is supposed to be no charge. And I asked the billing why and she said it's because I asked the doctor a question during my visit so it's considered an office visit. WTH. I thought the point of an annual is to go over any concerns or ask questions. They also charged me $25 twice for one missed appointment when I canceled the appointment days in advance. This has happened to me before throughout the years but I always just paid and let it go but this is something that definitely needs to be brought up.
